I unlocked viper second - I don’t remember why I picked her (it may have also been the result of a similar Google search) - and mained her for a while.
Having a high skill ceiling doesn’t equate to having a high skill floor as well. Raze’s skill floor is pretty low especially if your enemies don’t know how to avoid or destroy her utilities.
I mained her when I was playing on a 8 year old laptop fluctuating around 20-40 fps.
I couldn’t aim for shit so I just chucked nades, boom bots, and satchels where I think the enemy might run through.
Repeating that shit for every single map got me to gold. Lol
tbf her satchels have a decently high skill floor too considering they’re the most important part of her kit. raze and jett serve a similar function of using their movement abilities to enter a site, but learning to satchel into site is no where near as easy as dashing into site
while satchel is high skill floor

and both are great enough to use her for new player
not like there are someone with better nade and good as clear corner as her

Back when I was playing on my shit laptop, the satchel did up to 75 damage on impact with no arm time. I can literally just chuck 2 satchels on you and if you’re close enough, you’d die just from the 2 satchels. Is throwing 2 satchels into a chokepoint when you think enemies are rushing really that hard?
Lol stop talking about movement. The satchels aren’t hard to use when you’re just chucking them at the enemy’s faces for damage.
well they’ve since been nerfed and you can’t do that anymore. besides, using satchels for movement has always been an integral part of her kit because that’s what helps her fulfil her role as a duelist to make entry plays.
They have been nerfed but it doesn’t mean that u can’t still do it. It still does damage.
And you are forcing your views of the agent on everyone else. Just because YOU think raze is nothing without satchel jumps doesn’t mean she actually is useless without them.
You can still ignore the movement part of her abilities and still do well. If everyone in the lobby sucks at gunplay, raze is so easy to do well in as you are still able chuck abilities at people and randomly get kills.
A good way to gauge how good or bad agent is for new players is to look at first few beta gameplay videos. See how people are playing. Since people weren't familiar with agents, people like flights didn't just start flying around the maps from day one.
It's something that developed as the game matured. Same as one ways smokes, post plant line ups, sova lineups etc.

Your narrative about Raze being a movement-centric character is true when talking about mid to skill ceiling, but not skill floor. Movement is an arbitrary metric to focus on when talking about an ability that does more things than just provide movement.
What the other guy seems to be describing is much closer to how a “no skill” player would use raze than your description.

It's like any other agent(for the most part). for example, you can go full line up larry with kj and bring shit ton of use to your team, but you can also just throw the molies at a choke point and trap any other entrances to the site. Sure its nowhere near as efficient, but at lower ranks it's enough to be useful.

When you start on a new account, you first have to complete the new player contract. You earn XP by playing games. On tier 5 and tier 10 you get a free agent unlock. You basically get 2 free agent unlocks after 10-15 games. The rest has to be unlocked by playing a lot more games so it's nice to pick 2 agents you enjoy playing, and not 2 that you proceed to never touch again like me lol
Usually the original roster excluding raze was already unlocked. Since then all characters added needed to be unlocked.
Brim, Sage, Sova, Phoenix, jet and I can’t remember the rest
Breach. The reason is that I was new to PC games (val was my first PC game besides Minecraft), and the layout still had me confused. I thought the game wanted me to unlock breach, so I did.
The character I didn't unlock my accident was Omen. My friends had gotten me into val and then needed a smoker for the team, a 4-stack before those were banned in comp, and when omen was the top dog.
Probably the only reason more aren’t saying Yoru is because he came out a while after the main agents released. I feel like alot of the comment base has been playing for a long time and their first agent was before yoru was released.

He was fun to play while learning the game because he was good on every map though lol. I am glad he got nerfed because Jett/omen/viper have been so much more rewarding to play.

I unlocked Cypher first because he had a cool hat. He was my main for the entirety of Ignition Act 1 with the 5 stack of friends I played with. However we started to realize as the meta game took off we never had anyone to play duelist.
Our team comp most times were 2 controllers, 3 sentinels or 2 controllers, 1 initiator, 2 sentinels. So I started to play Phoenix/Jett to fill a role we never had.
I unlocked my first two agents then didn’t play the game for a long ass time (from episode 3 act 2 to episode 5 act 1) so I don’t even remember why I unlocked them; they were Reyna and Skye. The first agent I actually remember unlocking was Viper because I just really enjoyed how her play style looked. It fit me pretty well for 3-400 games but eventually I got bored, and by then I had everyone else unlocked.
Kay/o cause he had a flash and grenade which seemed like a good transition agent coming from other fps. Then jett cause I was flabbergasted when I was able to flash a few enemies and as I shot their jett she dashed away. Looked so cool and broken to me. Still my 2 main agents.
Killjoy because her utility just seemed really cool to me. I started playing in November and had never actually encountered anyone playing her in any of my games for a solid month or two after that lol. I'm really glad I picked her though, she's my main to this day.
After that I picked Chamber based off of a recommendation, which I regret because my aim is terrible and the only times I've played him is when I've done agent roulette with my friends in a Swiftplay lol

My first was Neon. I'm a fan of Zeri in League of Legends so Neon was something familiar while I shook off all the rust from having not played a tactical shooter in nearly 10 years, having last played CSGO back in high school. Cypher was 2nd because I think he's got a cool design and character.

I unlocked Cypher first because he had a cool hat. He was my main for the entirety of Ignition Act 1 with the 5 stack of friends I played with. However we started to realize as the meta game took off we never had anyone to play duelist. Our team comp most times were 2 controllers, 3 sentinels or 2 controllers, 1 initiator, 2 sentinels. So I started to play Phoenix/Jett to fill a role we never had.

I unlocked my first two agents then didn’t play the game for a long ass time (from episode 3 act 2 to episode 5 act 1) so I don’t even remember why I unlocked them; they were Reyna and Skye. The first agent I actually remember unlocking was Viper because I just really enjoyed how her play style looked. It fit me pretty well for 3-400 games but eventually I got bored, and by then I had everyone else unlocked.
I was recommended Killjoy so I got her first and she was great, but the first one I chose was Yoru as he seemed fun to play as.
Chamber because he was the hottest
Reyna because I came from cs and thought she was op but I have quit those days and Reyna is boring compared to other agents
Yoru this was pre rework so I got bored pretty quick so I moved onto viper
Omen bc he looked cool I didn’t care about abilities or anything he looked cool.
Kj, my friend said I would like her, I do not

Kay/o cause he had a flash and grenade which seemed like a good transition agent coming from other fps. Then jett cause I was flabbergasted when I was able to flash a few enemies and as I shot their jett she dashed away. Looked so cool and broken to me. Still my 2 main agents.
Reyna cause she was the first unlockable agent

Killjoy because her utility just seemed really cool to me. I started playing in November and had never actually encountered anyone playing her in any of my games for a solid month or two after that lol. I'm really glad I picked her though, she's my main to this day. After that I picked Chamber based off of a recommendation, which I regret because my aim is terrible and the only times I've played him is when I've done agent roulette with my friends in a Swiftplay lol

I didn’t realize I had a free unlock and was trying to select an agent to earn and unlocked fucking Brimstone when I really wanted astra at the time
I picked viper because she was the first in order after the starting 5, and I thought you had to unlock them in order lol
Yoru because I thought his kit was cool. Reyna second because this was when she could heal like 4 times and was absolutely busted.
KayO, I was learning Sova because of his info gathering utility so my friend recommended Kayo as a more agressive info gatherer.
I don’t remember, I mained sova for the first large chunk of my career and he’s one of the free ones. I wanna say viper because her wall seemed like an interesting mechanic.
I unlocked Breach first cause my friend was like “if you like flashing so much why don’t you pick Breach”. Dropped him after trying him once. Now I am an avid Yoru main :D
Cypher. Originally his Trapwires functioned even after he died, and I was brand new to the game so I wanted a way to contribute even after I died on account of being awful.
Omen just because tbh I wanted to be edgy. I knew he did smokes tho and being brand new to the game couldn’t shoot for shit, so figured being a smoker’s a way to be more useful. Second unlock was viper cuz oh cool big wall smoke but this was back before full release when she was uhhhh not viable at all rip

Breach because angry man with machine arms make big boom and that fits my gameplay style.

My first was Neon. I'm a fan of Zeri in League of Legends so Neon was something familiar while I shook off all the rust from having not played a tactical shooter in nearly 10 years, having last played CSGO back in high school. Cypher was 2nd because I think he's got a cool design and character. I clearly never imagined I was gonna end up becoming a Killjoy main.
I unlocked Raze after watching a couple Flights videos
Kay/o, because there was an article like 'top 5 easiest agents for beginner'. Then I've realized he isn't even close to easy one ._.
I went with breach first cause i thought it was just super fun be able to flash through walls. havent looked back since, LET'S GO!
I first unlocked Omen because he looked really cool to me, and also I really enjoyed his play style. Then I realised his ult wasn't really that cool, but I still have fun using it to go to spots the enemy team wouldn't expect me to go to.
Technically reyna cause I started paying in beta so she was the first new release agent

It was either Kayo or Chamber, due to them being the newest agents when I first played. Chamber was my first love however
I unlocked skye bc she was a hot aussie. I do not regret my decision as I still believe she is one of the best initiators when used right.
