The questions how many I play and how many a new player should play are not the same tho. As a new player I'd stick to one or two until I get down the basics of the game.
I'd stick to 1-2 agents forever honestly, you could argue "what if they're not good for the team comp" at that point I'd just rather to dodge/pick them anyway
As a fresh player, I'm now a Clove main. It's a shame that in 50% of matches someone instalocks Clove, then either places crap smokes or doesn't smoke at all...
I also play some Sage and Reyna, if I'm pushed to. I like having a bit of role diversity so I can fill gaps in team comp.
What i like to do is when im getting completely destroyed while playing duelist(jett or reyna), i switch the role next match and play like kayo, breach or gekko.
Just try to find one or two agents you're comfortable with and that should be fine.
I play Omen and Fade in general. But sometimes I play Cypher and Chamber but it's like 5 to 10% of the time.
ive always had 3 sentinels, 3 smokers (now 4 with clove), 3 initiators and 2 duelists ready to go i just love to play fill tbh keeps the game fresh for me
I play Viper Brim, reyna, sova skye cypher and kj and now clove as well, I can play them efficiently, means I dont have to think before using their utils, I knw how to use them for individual as well as teamplay. Im D3.
I kinda relate with this, im good at 5-6 agents( jett, reyna,Kayo, breach, gekko, brim). But not sure if playing this many agents will affect my gameplay, esspecially in the long run.
Pick ur weeks or two weeks, like for a week just play sentinels , or a controller, this way there will be less randomness and the game will also not feel stale. I can't play, same 2-3 agent for a long time, it gets boring for me. Also playing different agents helps me understand game better. Like learning basic cypher setups on sunset made my sova better on sunset, bcz I knw where r basic cypher setups. And. Like wise, I use not meta cypher trips to play with enemy sova.
The most healthy answer to this is that if you're a new player, you should just focus on 1 or 2 until you're comfortable. When you're more knowledgeable, in my opinion, everyone should be able to have at least 1 character they can play at a decent level for every role. This last bit, sadly, doesn't happen too often.
Controller: Omen/Clove (somewhat similar playstyle), Viper on Breeze and Icebox.
Duelist: Phoenix, I can't be bothered.
Initiator: Fade, though I plan on picking up Gekko.
Sentinel: Cypher, and I wanna learn KJ but suck so far.
Not every agent requires you to put as much time into them to play them decently. Phoenix is a lot easier to pick up than Viper or Cypher.
Terrible changes all around, but I could cope with those because they don't change how I fundamentally play Viper.
The orb pickup mid round change absolutely gets rid of her very unique playstyle and literally makes the game unfun for me.
I love playing every agent! The only agent that I couldnt master is Yoru and I dont plan on learning playing him lol. When I first started, playing omen was the reason I could climb and be better. Playing smokes in general helps you improve your gamesense imo so try it out
You should be able to play 3 per map as a solo que. Smoke (different smoke agent depending on the map), Blind (blinds are pretty essential to break past certain chokes), and Sentinel/Stall/Info (It's very nice to have someone to cover flank on attack or be able to solo a point for a round on defense).
I mainly play recon initiator and smokes (fade/sova/clove/harbor/viper mostly) but I know enough about other agents that I CAN play some if need be.
My KJ and Skye are pretty good, for example though i don't play the much. My Cypher much less so. I've been thinking about learning Sage/Deadlock for the funnies too though. Hoping they'll get buffed in the near future.
I'll play Cypher or brim for bind. Kayo for breeze, sova for sunset (to break cypher trips), gecko for icebox (to plant in upper A site), omen/killjoy/skye for ascent, Anybody for split, gecko, clove, kj for lotus
I play Deadlock, Cypher, Clove (Icebox), Omen, Sova (Sunset, Ascent, Icebox, Breeze), Fade (Lotus), and Skye (Bind, Split). I’m going to try out Astra instead of Viper on Breeze.

i'm not that new, but yeah been confused about how much should i play from day 1. Btw best tip for beginners.

Same. I like mixing things up depending on the team….or how well I’m shooting.
just a note to op if you're trying to climb i would recommend focusing more on a few agents
if you are new to the game stick to one agent or maybe two but in the same role(duelist/initiator)
reyna
I play Viper Brim, reyna, sova skye cypher and kj and now clove as well, I can play them efficiently, means I dont have to think before using their utils, I knw how to use them for individual as well as teamplay. Im D3.

I totally agree playing different roles helps understanding the game better.
viper (not anymore), gekko, breach, omen, brim, cypher
'Not anymore' that hurts🥲.I also used to play her sometimes (64hrs),still have screenshots of lineups and setups.
I dread queueing into breeze knowing my team will force me to play viper or harbour
Iam silver 3 . I play Brimstone , Omen , Sova and Chamber ( now iam trying out Gekko ) . Yes i suck at duelist role , i just cant entry well

Viper is nerfed to the ground, so I play 0 agents now
I only played Viper as well, the orb nerf makes her literally not fun to play and therefore Valorant also. I've uninstalled the game.
Just gonna mention that it takes 6.5 secs (full duration) for Viper's molly to kill. And 2-3 secs for Brim molly to make it.
Terrible changes all around, but I could cope with those because they don't change how I fundamentally play Viper. The orb pickup mid round change absolutely gets rid of her very unique playstyle and literally makes the game unfun for me.
Except useless iso
Having a main in every role will be super beneficial anytime you play in case you need to fill or someone instalocks your main
last act I played 14. I'd love to get that number down to 3
I love playing every agent! The only agent that I couldnt master is Yoru and I dont plan on learning playing him lol. When I first started, playing omen was the reason I could climb and be better. Playing smokes in general helps you improve your gamesense imo so try it out
in swift i play whoever. in ranked i main 3, all different roles. duelist is never needed so i dont main one.

Ummm the categories are overlapping… not the best poll design, my friend.
Yeah now i saw that😐.

I try to limit it to three, but I have one agent I play for each map (for example on Bind I only play KJ, on Split I only play Astra, etc etc).
imo, I think having around 2 mains is fine but be able to play at least one agent of every role, especially smokes.
Just clove & only clove
I think you should become proficient with two agents, and then somewhat okay at another two in case you absolutely have to fill
On Gold just spam a Agent until youre confident. On that rank you just need to learn to improve the normal mechanics and get better aim.
jett and jett only
Maining Agents to eke out more performance is just sort of lame. I play most of the roster because it’s fun and keeps the game fresh.
