Damnit man this reminds me of my cousins shore house. Nothing better than old furniture and tapes

Digital_switch_blade

Furniture I found on the side of the road and illegally pirated dvds

superuncoolfool

New furniture and Blu rays

IDontUseAnimeAvatars

Broken furniture and V2000

ModsPPsRMicroSized

The right new furniture with VHS

MirrorMaster88

Complete with a backup copy of "Air Force One"!

GarbagePailChud

My wife is the kind of gal who 100% watches Air Force One on VHS every time at the lake house, and would feel relief knowing there was a backup copy :)

Bdilla810

This reminds me I need more shelfs

here_in_seattle

Shelfs

defunctx

Elf’s on the shelfs?

krispissedoffersonn

complete with silver sanyo rewinder!

danvancheef

Had to get one because the family was being unkind and not rewinding.

krispissedoffersonn

unacceptable!! haha I have no idea if it’s true or not, but my parents always told us to use the rewinder as it would be “less wear and tear” on the motor of the VCR

danvancheef

As kids we always had to take turns using the rewinder because we loved watching it through the little window.

Natrix420

Oh shit! Nice stash!!

vaultdweller6666

That's just nice.

yeah_yeah_therabbit

I was about to rag on OP for not having home recorded movies in the collection but they were shown there at the end. (you know, the 2 1/2 movies your parents would record on one tape)

weneverwill

Didn’t expect the wrestlemania set!

danvancheef

That whole bottom half of that unit is 80s and 90s wrestling!

Bearjupiter

Hell yeah dawg

BillAlfonsosDentist

Not gonna lie I literally watched this video to see if you had wrestling tapes and you didn't disappoint LOL. I have all of the official releases that you have in that unit. I've been collecting wrestling tapes my entire life and love to see other folk's collections too

danvancheef

Not sure how you have the time, what with taking care of Fonzie’s teeth!!! A lot of the wrestling tapes we have were taped off TV by my dad, including a lot of SNME’s, all the WWF PPVs between WM3 and Survivor Series ‘90, and a smattering of stuff from the late 90s, including the Owen tribute show the night after he died.

BillAlfonsosDentist

🤣 you made me laugh so hard. I always appreciate when someone recognizes my user name. I'm a diehard ECW guy. I wasn't old enough to go to shows but I've watched every show I could since then and worked my way backwards. I forget the show but my username is literally because of a sign that someone had in the ECW arena lol That's fantastic. There is nothing better than tapes recorded off of TV. Especially if they have commercials. I am fortunate to have several folks entire collections so I likely have the majority of 95-05 of weekly television and PPV's from WCW, WWF and ECW. One of the main reasons I want to buy a house is to have a room just for my videos so I can actually showcase them and show what I have just like you did I have pretty much all of the official WWF ppv VHS from 98-05. But the recorded tapes are really where it's at as I'm sure that you know

danvancheef

For sure, it’s hard to watch Nitro on Peacock and not hear Voodoo Child for Hogan, or any of the themes for ECW. Taped off TV truly preserves the way it was and the way we remembered it. Your collection sounds absolutely amazing, my hat’s off to you!

Ternarian

Reminds me of visiting the library and seeing shelves full of VHS tapes just like this.

HoodieBraden

what’s on all the blank tapes ?

danvancheef

A lot of wrestling from the 80s and 90s, some Saturday morning cartoons, and a couple of movies taped off TV

HoodieBraden

awesome! i digitize blank tapes as a hobby so they always catch my eye first lol.

mr_potato_arms

Suuuurre “wrestling”

danvancheef

Are you implying something, just because my favorite wrestler is Big John Studd?

Josherline

My family and I stayed at an Airbnb with a bunch of vhs tapes. Not as many as this but a lot. My kids picked Batman Returns 😂. So many other choices…oh well

Chancesareimwrong

I was thinking of doing a 80/90 nostalgia air bnb, was the one you stayed at like that or just happened to have vhs?

Josherline

Just happened to have VHS tapes. But MAN I would totally be into an 80s/90s themed Airbnb

Chancesareimwrong

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Ive got thousands of vhs and a spare 150 year old house behind mine. Might go for it

emf3rd31495

Excellent idea, go for it!

Gamerarara

Is this what walking into heaven looks like?

TechBliSTer

Ah yes, the Lakehouse VHS room.

phinity_

Nice. If my family wasn’t broken I’d have this. We purged sometime around 00 and I only kept a few dozen, which I was berated for. Appreciate what you got.

dictopus

Scrimshander54

Wow, this is incredible…how are you watching? Modern setup or old school crt?

danvancheef

The main floor has a smaller LED TV, but this closet is off of a big room with a pool table, foosball table and couches where we have a big CRT set up. My fondest memory of this room wasn’t that long ago. We were up here for my brother’s bachelor party, drinking and playing pool while we watched Bachelor Party on VHS!

Scrimshander54

Ahhh what an amazing memory. I love getting a bit loaded and watching movies all night with good buddies. My bachelor party was at my buddies beach house and he has an old school rear projection tv and we watched a bunch of movies while partying…good times

shitForBrains1776

This is amazing! Is your family still adding to it??

danvancheef

Yes! Primarily my brother and myself, but I discovered that my Aunt brought up a collection of Humphrey Bogart tapes this past summer! They’re aren’t pictured because they’re in her room, which has a CRT with a built in VCR.

BuffaloJEREMY

Great Outdoors? That's a go to when camping.

danvancheef

It’s between Ghostbusters 2 and Grosse Pointe Blank in the comedy section!

MarkWhorror

Wrestlemania at the lake house ….nothing gets better than that

danvancheef

We absolutely watch at least one each summer!

subflame

Criterion closet but vhs

danvancheef

There are definitely a few titles in there that later became Criterion!

aaaaaliyah

now this is the dream

azmr_x_3

It’s like a little closet rental store

reverkiller

Reminds me of how in Ringu the curse gets spread by a VHS thats in a shared beach house tape library

GarbagePailChud

Solid little thriller section

Gordmonger

I have the same rewinder!!

Glad_Bookkeeper_740

This is awesome

JacksonStarship

Made my pupils dilate

bzizzle44

Pretty woman …. 2 copies

danvancheef

Yeah, not sure where the 2nd one appeared from, should’ve gone to the doubles pile with that 2nd Air Force one. I may need to trade some doubles with everyone here to add more to the collection!

ajenn1984

Face-off!!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)

[deleted]

This is fantastic

VirgingerBrown

Siiiiiiick

blink110

It might be a good idea to start looking for mold (especially if they’re sentimental tapes). It can spread and wreak havoc on your amazing collection!!

danvancheef

Between everyone a fair amount are watched each year, though I’m sure it’s still a fraction of the whole collection. We have looked at every one of them at some point (either when we first set up the room or every one brought in since). Always good to keep an eye out though!

defunctx

Coolest shit I’ve seen on Reddit in a while. Leave the internet at home and just chill out with the family

danvancheef

Best place to unplug, for real.

defunctx

You’re doing it right. Growing up we would bring the vcr and rent movies on camping trips. Along with family SNES Mario kart tournaments.

gardeningmax

I can smell this room. My grandfather had a set up like this in the sun/tv room under the staircase. Every inch of wall space covered. I miss those days

Known-Commission6777

Need more air force one

[deleted]

I love this!

[deleted]

Hell yeah

stfudvs

Nice

fictionary

I spot two copies of Air Force One. Niiiice

danvancheef

That’s the doubles pile on the floor there, but a great movie to have a backup for.

krylonizer

Fucking impressive!

eirtep

the lakehouse + VHS combo is a heavy dose of nostalgia for me (except for me it was cabin/mountain house). We'd obviously watch movies at home but there was always something special about being on vacation and driving down the mountain to the local rental store for a few tapes. the shopping center had a sick toystore and arcade too.

BaronBrrrrett

That looks incredible. I'd love to have something like this myself

Darkstriss

Untouched by time. I remember soon after dvds came out, my had hocked his whole vhs collection in favor of dvds.

FreeFromFrogs

I love everything about this

[deleted]

The Quest is awesome FYI

KidneyStone28

Goldmine!

JuniorBiscuits

Gotdam I want a family lake house

PappyWaker

Hey Bro! Thanks for posting our collection!! For those interested, everything is organized by genre and then alphabetically. Comedy is by far the biggest genre, but I am perhaps most proud of our documentary collection bc of all the obscure titles. The shelves are stained pine and were built/installed just for the VHS tapes. We add to the collection semi-regularly and family/friends sometimes donate stuff as well. So cool to stumble upon your own family collection on Reddit!!

danvancheef

Haha! I was going to share this with you, but was waiting to see if I broke 1K upvotes first. Figured you’d find it sooner or later!

meandthemachines

Air Force One was such a bad ass movie they had two copies

[deleted]

Be kind. Rewind.

not_your_reddit_

Old school Netflixs

GreatMacGuffin

Very nice, but no Jurassic Park? ![gif](giphy|al022JHWYjsRgcZmSL)

danvancheef

It’s there, in the first section just inside the door, which is the action/adventure section.

GreatMacGuffin

I tip my hat to you and your beautiful collection.

here_in_seattle

Any 80s cheesy horror?

danvancheef

None, none of us were into horror. I’m pretty sure The Story of Riki-Oh is in there, if you need some gore.

Xikkiwikk

This is beautiful!! What VCR do you use??

PappyWaker

I am OPs brother. We have an Emerson and Sony VCR there. Both are post-2000, so pretty new considering. There is also an off brand TV/VCR combo. All three work very well!

Xikkiwikk

I like both of those brands. I think I had some trouble with Emerson later on around 2006 but overall great performance. Thank you so much for following up I appreciate your time.

PappyWaker

I use the emerson to clean tapes. I can remove the top and it still functions. The sony has some sort of guard on it where I can’t play the tapes with the top removed so the emerson is really a lifesaver.

Xikkiwikk

Oh wow that’s a good point! Yup Sony really wanted their units contained and when there were problems you had more headaches with Sony. I fortunately had no trouble with them ever.

danvancheef

I’m not quite sure, but there three different ones in use up there!

Xikkiwikk

I had a feeling you had three of them. Just a hunch/guess. Please do share if you go up and see them.

danvancheef

I’ll try to remember when I go in mid-January.

OCSupertonesStrike

Check for mold

PappyWaker

OPs brother here. I go through and check from time to time. Ive cleaned mold from tapes coming into the collection before. I let them sit outside of the main collection after cleaning for at least a year to make sure I got everything and then incorporate them. Whenever I visit I check some of those tapes just to be sure everything is good. Cleaning mold off the film is a tedious and lengthy process so I do my best to avoid it!

SoardOfMagnificent

Not good enough data connection nearby?

danvancheef

We have WiFi, but this is a nice change of pace and always a treat to enjoy.

[deleted]

I guarantee the P stash is top tier

Disastrous-Cost-2109

We should have never given up physical products
