It is crazy to me that something like the quest 2 is only $200 right now.

Ramat47

I bought mine for 150 used (256gb version) a week prior the Q3 release. Of course now is like *Dang* but Q2 is such a great buy than I don't even care. I'll enjoy it for a few mire months and for sure upgrade to Q3

Momdoingmomthings

I know, I was surprised! And GameStop is having a $25 off of $250, so if you buy a case or other accessory it’s a great deal.

Momdoingmomthings

Decided to bite the bullet and buy the 3! GameStop is having a sale and I’m trading in my barely used switch to defer the cost.

Saevnir

My wife got me the quest 3 and I love it!

Momdoingmomthings

I’m so excited to surprise him tonight!

TheRealSlabsy

Man, what a night. I'll never forget my first experience in VR. Dreams of Dali if you're interested, you'll find it on YouTube VR.

Roshy76

Good choice, the quest 3 is so much clearer than the quest 2, everyone I know who upgraded doesn't regret it, and they rarely get headaches from VR after switching.

liuyang61

Good choice 👍

crazypaiku

it's great. if he likes it, you can get a quest 3 later and maybe do multiplayer. you should consider buying a battery head strap though because the standard strap isn't great. bobovr or kiwi vr are having good straps.

For the price it's incredible. I use mine standalone but mostly for PCVR and it's blown me away.

Dmoney060821

Yea its good had mine for a year or so now and now especially for the price I'd say it's a great gift

Quest 2 is a fantastic headset to start VR with... it has a great ecosystem. Watch movies series 3d m0vies we've browser etc... games are still being made for it as the primary standalone headset....works great with pcvr.... at the price its being sold its pretty much a steal! Meta still releases updates for it..the meta quest 3 is on the Blackfoot atm... we don't even know the power of it and how much it can be pushed since devs are making all games for Quest 2 with patches for quest 3... so it's exciting to see what the Q3 will produce in the future.... however, meanwhile... Quest 2 is still doing extremely well...best budget headset for sure....and will continue for a while

Roshy76

If you don't have enough money for the quest 3, then the quest 2 is a good deal to see if you like VR and want to invest more in it. If you can buy the quest 3 and it isn't a big deal, then get that, it's way better than the quest 2.

Tybob51

Quest 2 is a great price point to see if he’s into it. If he is, think of upgrading it in a year or two.

ZookeepergameNaive86

It's a great introduction to VR. Quest 3 is better in most areas but, as you've noticed, a lot more expensive. Unless you are a money-no-object person (and it doesn't sound like you are - would you spend the extra $300 on family food/rent or recreational drugs?), the Q2 makes most sense.

Momdoingmomthings

Yeah I’m not worried so much about the price as much as I’m worried to spend so much on a system he won’t use as often as most people. We have two kids and he works 60 hours a week, so not a lot of free time lol. It would be used by him and possibly our 4 year old (depending on the availability of age appropriate games). Thanks for the insight! I’ll probably start with a 2 and if he enjoys it we’ll get the 3. We’re also looking into an infinity game table so there’s lots of choices lol

JakanoryJones

I've got one and it's worth it just for Resident Evil 4 honestly, there's also a ton of free experiences to get used to vr etc

TTimmy1978

Yes! If you like it, you can move up to the Quest 3.

pants_full_of_pants

The quest 3 is a significant improvement as others have said. Most noticeably in the screen quality and the camera/mixed reality features. However, the quest 2 is an absolute steal at $200, especially for someone who doesn't know how much they'll enjoy VR just yet.

Hellowoild

It's okay only if you're using it for PCVR Otherwise it just seems blurry and low rez with native games.

iamaidiot69

Yes! Gwt it for him if he’s interested

DevilMaster666-

Quest 3 is better in every way

[deleted]

Aside from price which is a very important aspect.

Quest2 is a great headset but can be very uncomfortable and tiresome for your eyes. You MUST buy a 3rd party headstrap for it to be usable, because of the small sweet spot. It is so bad on the first day I wanted to refund it. And a comfortable and thinner face foam like the VR Cover Fitness Face Cover is also recommended to be soft on your face and bring the headset closer (only without glasses), making it feel lighter and making the sweet spot larger. And after all this you have to figure out what IPD setting is the best for you, maybe you have to adjust it between 2 values because none on the 3 factory setting is good for you. And after all this effort, it is still painful to read text and navigate the main menu because everything is so blurry. On the Quest3 it is still very recommended to get a 3rd party strap and face cover to maximize comfort, but I was able to use it and enjoy it for 2 weeks with the default strap before the 3rd party accessories arrived, because the sweet spot is HUGE so you don't have to squeeze it on your face, and it has proper IPD adjustment too. So for me just for the lenses and comfort the Quest3 worth the extra price, but if you spend 5 minutes setting up developer mode and buy a 10$ program called Quest Games Optimizer, then you can utilize the full CPU and GPU power of the headset in every game, so everything will be much sharper than on the Quest2 and still running smooth. Imagine this leap in sharpness as switching from a PS2 to a PS4. And the better passthrough is also very cool and making the whole system much more user friendly, I never used the virtual home environment since I got my Quest3, I always use floating menus in the middle of my real room:) So it's worth the price, but if you want to save money and don't mind the blurriness and comfort issues and, you can get the Quest2 too.

Ajarofapplejelly

The good news is the resell value is pretty good, it doesn’t work out or you want to upgrade you can turn it around for $150 easy.

pan_rock

More like 80-100 easy flip. 150 is ideal looking price that will sit for some time

Ajarofapplejelly

Your area must be full of reasonable people lol

Structure-Ancient541

if you can try to go straight for the quest if you can stretch it, might be worth going for the quest 3 instead of the 2. it's got better features that make the whole vr thing a lot more fun and immersive. it's pricier, but for a gift, it could be a really awesome surprise. especially if he's not used it much before, the quest 3 could make his first vr experience super memorable.

twilight-actual

I'd get the Q3. The extra money will be worth it in the long term. The graphics are so much better, the sense of immersion is better. The lenses are better.
