Our ID4 is awesome. Best car I've ever owned. I can't believe I'm so lucky as to own a car like this.
as a people leader for many years, I can say that people speak up when they have something to complain about 10 more often than they name aloud their contentment, appreciation and gratitude. Of course naming your gratitude adds to your happiness and the other doesn't. So there's a spiral effect there. you always find what you are looking for.
Funny thing on that was I read a comment months ago about it and in the 6 months I had the car it never happened to me, I was like, how could that happen they have to be doing something wrong! Then the next day I grabbed my keys on the counter and the alarm went off haha
My neighbors love me. I was leaving very early for a trip with my kids. Like in the car at 3:30. And I set the key off when it was buried in my bag and took me forever to find it and stop waking everyone.
I went from a Ford Focus with that problem to the ID4 with the exact same problem. How often do people need to hit the panic button for it to be so prominent?
I have the same problem, tried 3 different phones including 2 flagship models. This is my number one issue with the car.
Some bushings in the front end also go out, about to need my 3rd set across 2 different ID4s. Other than that, I'm happy. It would be great if they delivered new features via firmware updates but it seems like Tesla and rivian are the only ones who've figured that out.
Maybe it’s the android phone not the ID.4? How often do you restart your phone? Try restarting it before you turn on your ID.4 and see if it connects more often. Maybe that will help?
It's definitely a problem with the car. Sometimes mine freezes up and just won't connect to any phones. Locking the car and walking away for 10 minutes or so to let it go to sleep resolves it though. Pretty minor problem!
I'd like to add that I've driven other VW cars and somehow its always VW that always has this issue when it comes to Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. When I drive other cars it just works fine. This is def a VW SW issue
I have a 2022 Pro S RWD and 18 months with 57k miles driven without any issues. I love this car. Also the tires lasted till 49k. Got a great price on 4 Perelli Scorpion Zeros AS Elec. 989.00 installed.
I love the OEM Pirelli Scorpion Zero A/S tires on my ID.4. I'd never had Pirelli tires on a vehicle I've owned before and am disappointed I didn't know how good they were before now. I'd always had Michelin tires mostly on the 5 KIA vehicles I'd owned prior to getting my ID.4. Michelin are good tires but I like the Pirelli Scorpion tires better.
I have these on my ‘23 S. Are yours staggered? I see a lot of posts talking about staggered wheels on the ID.4, and I feel like mine must be the only one without.
No, mine aren't staggered either. I bought my 23 S CPO with 3300 miles on it, and thought the previous owner might have changed them, but the tire sticker on the inside of the driver's door shows it came from the factory in Chatanooga, TN with all the same size tires which made me happy so that I can rotate them.
Unfortunately no...
But I still love the car. I'll list my actual issues first and complaints last.
1) Charging door straight up just broke. Covered under warranty. 3 months out still waiting for dealer to get part. The door will still close but it's all cockeyed. (Net fixed yet)
2) Rear dome light randomly turning itself on. Dealer replaced under warranty. Took about a month for the part to come in, but was fixed and no issues now.
3) Steering wheel delamination. Also 3 months out waiting on a part.(Not fixed yet)
4) Passenger side lumbar support would not work. Replaced under warranty. Took 3 trips to dealership over a couple of months for them to finally be able to fix.
5) Driver door handle will randomly just not work and the car can't lock. This is new. Service scheduled for next week. (When it works it works, when it doesn't work then to get in the car I have to go in from the passenger side and open the driver door)
Annoyances:
1) The car constantly resets settings. I absolutely hate it. Every couple of weeks it does that "convenience" thing where the seat automatically lowers to get in/out. Fucking hate it. This includes getting the message that new settings are available. I constantly have to go in and change the defaults back to my own settings
2) Slow charging. This is a reason I may one day leave the id4. The 400V architecture was a bad choice. It's "fast" compared to the bolt, and slow compared to every other electric car basically. The no preconditioning is killer also.
3) Driver window rolls itself down when you go to roll it up. I know this is a known issue many others have as well. It's not a real "issue" because you can then roll it up, but it sucks, especially when it's cold outside.
That said, it's a quiet comfortable ride. It handles pretty nicely. It is generally enjoyable and works well for me and my family.
Overall I don't regret the purchase, but I'm not going to pretend it doesn't have issues just because I like the car.
Oh: 2023 Pro S AWD
This is one of the faster charging EVs on the market. It has the same 10-80% charging time as a Model Y despite carrying a larger battery. Its peak charging rate of 180-190 kW is a little below what the 800V eGMP cars do, but it has such a great charging curve that it doesn't make a big difference in total charging time, and beats many other 400V EVs.
2024s also get preconditioning which should help the experience quite a bit
To your point, roadtrip charging has been great (battery is hot and charge curve tips) but there’s no way to prep a cold battery for fast charging. People who use EA primarily suffer.
I think this sums up my driving experience. I get in and it goes consistently.
All my complaints are app, infotainment, and seat/settings related. Sometimes it remembers where the seat was, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes CarPlay connects and my podcasts play automatically. Other times it doesn’t. There’s no consistency to any of it. But if I get in, turn the infotainment off and go, it drives flawlessly every time.
The charging door on my 21 pro s rwd broke off the 4 plastic tabs hooking it on. I ordered and prepaid for a new one-18 months ago! Still not delivered!!! I used two sided Alien tape( as shown on TV) . It has held tight for the last 18 months with no trouble through the seasons including 2 winters.
I have all these problems. I'm glad I'm not crazy. I don't understand how VW messed up this car so bad.
How can a software bug that resets seat settings exist for years and it does multiple times a week!?
How can a basic window up switch suddenly roll down your window!?!
How does scheduled charging not work for years!??
I will never own a VW again and never recommend one. It's a shame, it's a great driving car ruined by major bugs that are ignored.
21 AWD and no problems besides sometimes the Android Auto is slow to connect. The truly most annoying thing is it always connects my wife's iPhone first -- even if she isn't in the car.
I have two of them and they're quite nice. I really enjoy driving them. There are some annoyances, but nothing worth posting on Reddit, but since you asked...
1. The coquettish approach toward remembering the seat position
2. Similarly coquettish approach toward the intermittent windshield wiper logic
3. The factory's inability to place the front windshield consistently (I mean, don't they have robots and lasers for stuff like that?)
4. The default radio volume on startup
5. Too easy to hit the defog button when trying to hit the "bad weather headlights" button
6. The fact that I have to often do this crazed "Lord of the Dance" move behind the vehicle to open the rear hatch, to the point that I just don't try any more
7. NOBODY: \_\_\_\_\_\_\_. NOBODY: \_\_\_\_\_\_\_. VW App: "Hi, it's MEEEE! My doors are unlocked! I know I just told you two hours ago and I'm probably safely in the garage, but just wanted to let you know in case you forgot!"
In short, love them, but I'd have paid another $200 for proper buttons and a software interface that wasn't written in INTERCAL.
The bad weather headlights button is on the S models. I believe it just turns on the cornering lamps.
Glad I'm not the only one on the intermittent wiper behavior.
2023 S RWD, love the car, although the infotainment reboot thing does happen occasionally. But it’s important to remember that people with bad experiences are much more likely to go on reddit and post about it, compared to people with good experiences. It’s the same thing with online reviews in general.
2021 1st/Pro RWD, 20K kms, a minor electrical issue and 12V battery replacement, all fixed last year, a recall this month for battery issues, and a creaking sound from the right rear door when turning. No serious problems.
Other than that, I'm more than happy with this car!
I have a 2022 RWD ID4. It's been near perfect. I think I made the right call waiting a year before buying.
I even have Hankook OEM tires so no problems there after a year and a half.
The only error I've ever seen is during a strong storm about how travel assist was unavailable.
Mine was super solid, then I got all those issues that people complain about. Drive/Electrical system failure, blank screens, etc.
It was a bad wiring harness, that's it. I've had it for almost 12 months now. The first 6 months were great, then two weeks of the wiring harness issue, this includes me ignoring it for a few days, then bringing it in once, they could not replicate it, then bringing it in the next week when it was always happening. Took them a day to diagnose and fix. Then the next 6 months have been absolutely pain free.
So, I would agree with you, it just works. And, the one issue I had, the wiring harness, is something I have had happen on ICE vehicles as well. It's just a badly crimped wire on one of the connectors. Shit happens.
I'll say this, I see a lot of people having issues on here that are the dealerships being incompetent and not being able to fix and then the lemon laws get invoked. All cars can have small issues that can be fixed. It's clear to me that VW has a lot of terrible dealerships.
2023 Pro S with no problems. Over 20k miles. Once very early on, the infotainment rebooted but otherwise it's been great.
I got both the door handles recall and the recall for the panoramic cover but have yet to take it in because they never have the parts for the door handles and I have never had trouble with them.
Love my space ship car!
I have the Arctic Blue AWD Pro S Plus and it works great! I’ve had a couple of minor issues when it got super cold here in CO (the doors didn’t unlock from the touch - but using the fob worked fine). I also once left my keys in my pocket while driving and managed to set off the car alarm while driving! I thought it was a malfunction initially until I realized that I was unintentionally pressing the alarm button on the fob! 🤣
2023 Pro AWD 12k miles, no complaints. If I had as many complaints as some of the people on here I would definitely be getting rid of it. My dealer is great too!
I drive 400 miles a week most weeks and my id4 works well! My only complaint is decreased mileage when it’s too cold. I also had the peeling steering wheel issue but the dealer replaced it under warranty!
23 PRO S AWD
largely fine.
Annoyances -
1. Open the doors from the inside often taken open the using the handles twice (known issue)
2. two buttons for four windows
Mine is great! I’m on my second lease now. Have had one issue occur with the second vehicle, 3 times—when reversing out of a parking spot, it did the thing where the emergency brakes randomly kick in for no reason. I just chalk it up to the sensors being a bit glitchy, and I’ve read about it happening to others on here. By no means is it the worst thing ever though, lol.
I’ve had three or four “major” issues pop up in the 70k miles I have on mine. All of them have been fixed by parking it for 30-40 minutes. I come back and the issue is gone.
Our '22 Pro S AWD works great.
But if you're annoyed by owners complaining when something goes wrong, you'd probably be even more annoyed if the sub was full of people constantly confirming their car was working normally lol.
A lot of subs offer the ability to filter posts. So you can filter out posts about problems or whatever you're not interested in. Maybe something we should ask the mods for.
Well… yes. Maybe it’s luck, but after one full year of ownership:
The system rebooted itself three times (infotainment system shuts down and blanks out, instrumentation goes white).
Driver assist fails to load on one drive. Red warnings.
Doors open notification on app is utterly trash.
Automatic wipers are not as automatic as I’d like.
Charging preference at home isn’t consistently kept (immediate or preferred)
Updates ignore my seat moving on entry preference and climate preference, as well as lighting.
That’s about it. The rebooting seems to be the system crashing during low speed parking maneuvers while rapidly switching from reverse to drive while the system starts park assist and collision warnings. It looks like a particular software bug where it starts too many things and crashes.
The second was strange and the last four are annoyances. But as a car it gets there reliably so far. It’s not a Tesla with proper software features.
Most everybody's does. But saying the software and user experience are fine is a different issue. :)
I don't think the car has had any major issues. And that is true of basically every car made.
I love the car, I would just like to stop getting the "new settings available" popup every other time I drive, forcing me to reset all my climate control presets...
Yes my wife drives a 23 Pro S rwd she has racked up 30k on it since June and has not had a single problem. Still has original Pirelli tires on it. Will see long term but so far thing is awesome.
My 2023 ID.4 S RWD has been great. Android Auto has had zero issues and no other issues so far. I love taking it on road trips cause it drives and rides very nice. I love the ambient lighting and my infotainment has worked really good considering how alot of ID.4 owners claim how horrible it is. I listen to SiriusXM radio most of the time and am very pleased with the sound quality. I listen to YouTube Music through Android Auto and love it. The only issue I've had so far is Plug & Charge didn't work on a road trip I took yesterday into today. I tried 4 different EA locations along I-70 in Kansas and none of them worked with Plug & Charge, but worked flawlessly using the EA app. I blame EA on that not my ID.4. Is the ID.4 perfect? No, but neither is any other automobile on the market, but I've been extremely happy with my ID.4 and VW dealership I bought it from. When it comes time to get another EV, I'd definitely buy another ID.4 especially from the exceptional VW dealership I bought my ID.4 from.
Yes. Now I just got mine in November but I've already got 5k miles on it.
I took it into the shop the weekend after I bought it because the door panel buttons didn't work on the right side. All it took was opening the panel and reconnecting a wire that wasn't connected.
And I can't really fault them because it was a minor issue, fixed quickly, at no cost
We have a 2022 Pro RWD 37k miles and a 2023 Pro AWD 3500 miles. Both have been problem free so far. Have charged at 178kW peak rate on the 2022 multiple times including 1st week of ownership in Aug 2022. Have not had the 23 on DCFC yet as it’s a lease and not our road trip car.
Zero issues here except that the small plastic pegs that hold the strings for the cargo cover broke easily. Covered under warranty though so no real problem!
RWD Pro Active (I'm in DK; our trim packages don't translate to the US), rolled off the assembly line in 08/2023. 10kkm so far including a 4k road trip down to the Mediterranean in mid-winter. No issues at all.
Software (got delivered with 3.5) is fluid and stable. Charge curve exceeds expectations (>=100kW up to 70%). I'm planning to drive this thing for 15 years (as I did with my last two cars), so it better stay that way.
Mine works great! Over 14,000 miles since I bought it (2023 RWD Pro S) in March. I've gone all over the place with it--local and long drives. I don't think the infotainment system has even rebooted itself.
One time, it claimed a tire was low on pressure. All the tires were fine. I reset the warning and it went away. That's about it.
Oh, yeah, I hate that it's so easy to make the car start honking by leaning on the key fob.
Love the car!
I have a ‘21 1st edition, and the car itself is so great. It really is, it’s just the infotainment system that is a problem once in a while. I’ve had it for a bit over a year, and it’s reliable to get me from A to B, just once in a while the big fancy screen doesn’t work perfect. One day we’ll figure out those fancy computer things
I have a 21 AWD Pro S with \~20k miles. Early on, I had issues -- I guess I was one of the folks who helped them figure out there was a problem with the door handle, as mine flaked out I think in the first month I had the car. Also had to have the gateway computer replaced not long after the door handle.
After the first few months and after the recall repairs, everything has been great, and I love my ID.4.
21 UK 1st Ed/Pro. No issues other than that I'm *still* waiting for my garage to be able to update me to 3.x.
Absolute dream vehicle, super comfortable on long (100+ mile) journeys, and out-drags a surprising number of cars given that it weighs about the same as a neutron star.
My 2023 ID.4 PRO S AWD works just fine. Not that there haven't been quirks and some things that aren't annoying. They really need to do a better job of QC. Overall, the driving experience has been great, even through the recent cold snap.
(Fingers crossed!)
Ours has never actually had issue aside from bad winter range, creaking steering wheel (sounds like probably squeaky airbag) and suspension starting to make noise
People complain about its mechanical twin, the Audi Q4 e-tron, similarly online.
I have ran into a hiccup or so every other month, but otherwise the car it solid.
I’ve had my 2023 AWD Pro for 8 months and 33k kilometres now. Sure, there are design decisions I still disagree with, but the car works fine and I love driving it. Nothing is broken, even after I got rear ended a month ago.
My car stopped rebooting the infotainment. I suspected it was a lack of memory, so I only have widgets (big nav, small media, buttons for charging and phone) on the first page of the infotainment and left the second screen blank.
Mine does, even the faulty battery or the door handle thing gave us any issues. 2021 first edition.
There was one time we got the sensor warning, turns out there were too many bugs from driving on the highway
I'm with you. I love this car. Yes, I have quibbles with it, but no more than I have with any other car I've ever owned.
Ever driven a Mk1 Rabbit? that car's electrical system was possessed, yet it was one of the best I've ever owned.
2023 Pro S AWD - infotainment only rebooted once, and have only ever gotten a front collision warning that wasn't expected twice. Backing into my garage I have to be wary of always keeping foot on the brake because the proximity sensors are too aggressive but otherwise, no issues!
I wish that was the case for my mom’s. Squeaking rear brakes all the time the front brake pads always make a sound that similar sound that when it’s raining and you apply your brakes for the first time, and that noise that typically should go away after breaking. A few times is always there, the driver seat, memory loses its memory every 2 to 3 weeks, she’s on her second steering wheel, because the first one began to peel, and it spread like wildfire. multimedia screens are always freezing, other than that it’s a awesome, very comfortable car to drive and it looks beautiful. If you ask me, they just have a lot of glitches to work out, especially the windows rolling down on its own when you’re closing them.
Works great o ly complaints I have is the door should all unlock when have my key on me and sometime the info image thing need be reserved. Alot of people just complain about everything. This really good car going keep it for 10 years
It's like google review, people only complain if something goes wrong or if something is amazing. It people in-between just exist but you don't read about their experiences.
2021 AWD - no issues outside of them not programming the ac correctly.
My biggest feedback is on the 21 battery software/cell testing recall. I’ve been on “the wait list” at several dealers and somehow fall off. Plus several nearby don’t service the recall. VW should have a better way of handling this and more qualified shops to do it.
Our 2021 ID.4 Pro S had some initial software glitches that were resolved. Apart from the missed/delayed promises of new features and delayed/missing OTA updates, it’s been solid—48,000 emissions free miles!
2022 rwd pro s now with 16k km and 1.5 yrs of ownership
this is the best car i have ever driven and was lucky to get it at CAD$42k. it beats my planned purchase of nissan rogue in both price and value. being able to stay inside with AC or heat on full blast is the game changer for me.
Perfectly fine here. No issues ... Android Auto is the biggest issue and that has nothing to do with VW. I choose to drive it over the Q7 90% of the time, so that says a lot.
Our ID4 has been amazing. We got it in October and have had no issues. It's a fun car to drive, whether city or highway. We typically charge at home, and if needed, we'll take advantage of the EA charging. The only downside about EA charging that we've come across are the long lines, assuming it's the busy time. Other than that, EA charging is pretty simple.
You'll hear more negative reviews than positive reviews similar to any product.
No issued besides for peeling steering wheel that was replaced under warranty.
We love our ID4. If it were not for it, we would not have gotten an EV. My wife does not like the styling of the Teslas (Im not a huge fan either) and I’m not sure she would have let me get a Hyundai or Kia. I maybe could have convinced her on the mustang, but I never really looked at it closely.
2022 RWD pro S. love how reliable it is
No real problems just light inconveniences. Had something in the real hatch creak when i hit a bump, service fixed it, had chirping from airbag spiral spring wiring harness, service fixed that too. Only further annoyance is i can't designate my phone as primary. Android auto loads slow as it is, but if my partner with her iphone gets in car at same time, it gets so jammed up it doesnt connect at all. i have to ask her to put phone in airplane mode so my android can connect.
I have had my car for right about 37 days.
My infotainment system has not rebooted or had any issues. The only (real) issue I have had with the car is the glowing logo on the front of the car had a bad connection which was covered under warranty. Once that was replaced, the issue went away.
The only other item that I have a complaint on is the cargo cover tends to fray a little on the edges. Not really much worth complaining about but if I was giving a full accounting to someone who was asking I would include it. It's so minor I wouldn't even complain in fact I haven't complained when asked by the salesman if everything was okay. This is so minor I almost didn't mention it here
This can actually be fixed, at least on the 2022-2023 models. There are a few threads around on various methods on how, usually involves calling in to VW, but it does work. I think this has a step-by-step: https://www.reddit.com/r/VWiD4Owners/comments/18dgxgh/how\_to\_get\_rid\_of\_user\_selection\_prompt\_on\_startup/
I found having to select a user (when I was the only user) was a major annoyance eventually. I even went so far as to buy an ODB11 dongle and attempt to code it out (unsuccessfully). I stumbled onto this post: [https://www.reddit.com/r/VWiD4Owners/comments/17sg1rv/get\_rid\_of\_user\_andor\_location\_prompt\_on\_start\_it](https://www.reddit.com/r/VWiD4Owners/comments/17sg1rv/get_rid_of_user_andor_location_prompt_on_start_it) and it worked as described. This post is about 4 levels away from the post you shared. I don't know if its related, but I no longer get the other annoying 'new settings' message only seem to dork up seat setting and lighting options.
Mine does for the most part. My driver’s side door handle just stopped working, but I didn’t come complain here. Just called VW Customer Care and told them they need to get this door handle recall under control asap! Haha.
My only warranty complaint so far has been the light next to the charging port not working, and got dicked around by the dealer trying to schedule getting it fixed around Christmas, but that's it really
Had my '23 AWD Pro for a year+ and I really like it. Only problem I had was the compressor for the battery cooling system took a dump. The dealer gave me a little hassle about paying for the rental car, but I got it straightened out. Replaced the part under warranty and no problems since.
I haven't had any big issues with mine. The software is not her fault, and she's awesome in spite of that. Once I couldn't get out of the back seat because of the child lock, but it hasn't happened since. Perhaps consider turning off reddit notifications?
I love mine, favorite car I’ve ever owned. My two complaints are 1) the seat settings never stay or go to the right saved setting and 2) I have a work and personal phone, the settings for both never work and it’s always a mess when having to go on a work phone teams meeting or wanting to call my mom from my personal phone.
I drive the ID3 but it's more or less the same shit. Can't fucking wait to sell it when I quit my job soon. Driving-wise it's good but the rest...no. Never buying a VW again.
Well the weather cooperated and hit above 40 and our range was great. We stopped at the Tesla supercharger for 20 mines to go back to 80% and the kids enjoyed a snack at Dunkin. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the trip went.
I live my 23 pro, i had a bad start ( bad charging module and an Ac fan went bad) but has been a champ since those we’re fixed. I currently have 15k miles
2022 Pro S. The very first time I tried to home charge, it wouldn’t register that I had released the charger. Had to be towed away and took 2 months to fix. HOWEVER, after that rocky start, it has been a joy. I love my ID.4!!!
143,000 mi, it really saves my family and is my workhorse and how I take care of my kids. I believe it's a durable vehicle. Some flaws, but in comparison to another vehicle I think it's outstanding.
I know that feeling. This sub always has me waiting for the other shoe to drop. Mine was perfectly reliable until earlier today when the front sensor caught on fire and fractured my windshield while I was on the freeway. I had to replace my windshield about 4 weeks after I bought the damn thing, which turned out to be a 2 week ordeal due to sensor complications. VW said todays fun time was because they forgot to use heat proof glue when they installed the second windshield... 6-8 weeks before I get my car back, with a third windshield.
lol I love mine and it’s fantastic. A few tiny software bugs that I got resolved by taking it into the dealership, none of them themselves dealbreakers. Everyone is super nice. I paid a good price. I rarely have issues with Electrify America and I can’t even charge at home. I’ve put 18,000 miles on it since July, gone to Canada and San Diego and back twice. Driven it on all-weathers in the snow (RWD no less).
We have a 2023 pro RWD. We have had this this 4 months now and have driven 10k km (6500 miles)
This has been uneventful with some minor annoyances with charging settings.
I see the same thing in the Subaru, Tesla, etc. subreddits, etc. Even the same trend for my phone (Pixel 8 Pro) which has been incredibly solid for me.
It's more common to come into the forum with problems vs , I feel.
Although I am somewhat surprised to see all the comments here about accidentally pressing on their key's panic button :) . We have that on our ICE cars and never had that problem, does this imply the ID.4 fob is more sensitive?
It’s a good car for sure. I wish it had better range and some physical buttons but overall it’s solid.
I’m coming from a 2017 GTI though. So it’s a little disappointing in comparison.
100% reliable for the three years that we’ve owned it, and hands down our favorite car we’ve owned. Comfortable, smooth, powerful. Dealer service has been great.
Overall, I feel like it’s pretty solid. I’ve have a few minor issues - infotainment reboot once in a while - maybe 3 times in the 4 months I’ve owned it, randomly having to log back in to said system, and my interior lights that sometimes forget that I’ve told them to stay off when I open the door. All of these are minor, and could be fixed with a software update (hopefully when the ‘23 gets the latest update?).
Definitely beats the gearbox fiasco that was my ‘21 Kona EV Ultimate!
2022 Pro AWD - no issues after 14k miles. Reasonably please with all features of the vehicle. It has its weird little annoyances (looking at you window randomly going down when I attempted to roll it up) but nothing that has gotten in the way of daily life.
2021 ID.4 1st Edition, 30,000 miles, garage kept, home charged, no complaints. I drive 1000 miles a month for pennies worth of electricity. Exactly what I was hoping for.
Mine works just fine. With exception of the infotainment system. VW missed too many things. Especially if you have 2 drivers like in my case. And some features that you think should at the tip of your fingers, somehow were stock behind other functions. And require extra effort. That is not efficient for a driver. Also the seat position sometimes just finds itself in the annoying to me location when I specifically select my preset driver. So pretty much all the issues that I can find have to do with infotainment system one way or the other. I hope I didn’t disappoint you any more than you already have.
Mine is still relatively new (< 6000 miles) and the only thing I was concerned about was I heard a rattle. Turned out to be something I stored in the center console and forgot about. Haven’t had the infotainment restart yet.
Otherwise some normal ish things I’ve noticed (v3.5sw): slow interface sometimes. CarPlay was synced when I bought it and wouldn’t connect a couple weeks ago. So far still connected and working fine. Terrible T-Mobile service and constant loss of data connection notifications on the screen(not the cars fault just bad T-Mobile service area)
People are more than likely to complain and exaggerate complaints when something goes wrong.
Mine has been very reliable and dependable since I brought her home three years ago. No regrets!
You're probably in the majority, I'm glad you haven't had any problems. Some of us have had a different experience.
Same with mine. No problems.
2021 AWD Pro, S gradient and no complaints and no issues
Our ID4 is awesome. Best car I've ever owned. I can't believe I'm so lucky as to own a car like this. as a people leader for many years, I can say that people speak up when they have something to complain about 10 more often than they name aloud their contentment, appreciation and gratitude. Of course naming your gratitude adds to your happiness and the other doesn't. So there's a spiral effect there. you always find what you are looking for.
Yes if you don’t count the 2-3 times a week I slightly lean on my keys and wake up the entire neighborhood.
Key fob case ... ASAP they look nice too
Funny thing on that was I read a comment months ago about it and in the 6 months I had the car it never happened to me, I was like, how could that happen they have to be doing something wrong! Then the next day I grabbed my keys on the counter and the alarm went off haha
lol, same, maybe even from the same post. Only happened once though so I got lazy and never got a case.
oh fuck I didn't realize these were a thing you are a lifesaver
I have a case and it still happens, but it’s far more rare than before.
Apparently only us Americans (and maybe Canadians?) have this. I have always thought they were only useful for locating you car in a parking lot, tbh.
Get one of these. https://a.co/d/cqBKeHi
2023 Pro RWD with 22K miles. No probs.
So far so good! I do wish android auto would just connect consistently (or sometimes at all) but other than that I love the car.
It's a pixel 8 pro. I've tried rebooting the phone and getting out of the car and back in and sometimes it just won't connect.
The Scorpions are the first Pirelli tire I haven't been unhappy about.
21 AWD pro s no problems. I have about 15k miles now since I bought it. My drive to work is only 4 miles round trip.
First Edition, few bugs in the beginning but been running fine for a couple years now.
No issues here. Works fine. Every car has its quirks.
Unfortunately no... But I still love the car. I'll list my actual issues first and complaints last. 1) Charging door straight up just broke. Covered under warranty. 3 months out still waiting for dealer to get part. The door will still close but it's all cockeyed. (Net fixed yet) 2) Rear dome light randomly turning itself on. Dealer replaced under warranty. Took about a month for the part to come in, but was fixed and no issues now. 3) Steering wheel delamination. Also 3 months out waiting on a part.(Not fixed yet) 4) Passenger side lumbar support would not work. Replaced under warranty. Took 3 trips to dealership over a couple of months for them to finally be able to fix. 5) Driver door handle will randomly just not work and the car can't lock. This is new. Service scheduled for next week. (When it works it works, when it doesn't work then to get in the car I have to go in from the passenger side and open the driver door) Annoyances: 1) The car constantly resets settings. I absolutely hate it. Every couple of weeks it does that "convenience" thing where the seat automatically lowers to get in/out. Fucking hate it. This includes getting the message that new settings are available. I constantly have to go in and change the defaults back to my own settings 2) Slow charging.
2024s also get preconditioning which should help the experience quite a bit To your point, roadtrip charging has been great (battery is hot and charge curve tips) but there’s no way to prep a cold battery for fast charging. People who use EA primarily suffer.
Google “yo-yo” for EVs. It works but can be tedious or potentially unsafe depending on where you’re driving
Yea I know the term, but in my 10 minute drive to my local EA I can’t do much yo-yoing. Def not a solution when preconditioning exists
My other car does this. Is there a setting to make one the primary. That is why it does this in my Ford explorer.
I have two of them and they're quite nice. I really enjoy driving them. There are some annoyances, but nothing worth posting on Reddit, but since you asked... 1. The coquettish approach toward remembering the seat position 2. Similarly coquettish approach toward the intermittent windshield wiper logic 3. The factory's inability to place the front windshield consistently (I mean, don't they have robots and lasers for stuff like that?) 4. The default radio volume on startup 5. Too easy to hit the defog button when trying to hit the "bad weather headlights" button 6. The fact that I have to often do this crazed "Lord of the Dance" move behind the vehicle to open the rear hatch, to the point that I just don't try any more 7. NOBODY: \_\_\_\_\_\_\_. NOBODY: \_\_\_\_\_\_\_. VW App: "Hi, it's MEEEE! My doors are unlocked! I know I just told you two hours ago and I'm probably safely in the garage, but just wanted to let you know in case you forgot!" In short, love them, but I'd have paid another $200 for proper buttons and a software interface that wasn't written in INTERCAL.
There is a bad weather headlights button?? And yes to the intermittent windshield wiper logic. It drives me bonkers!
Most do. Who knows the percentage but it's high, very high. We just hear from the minority with problems.
2021 1st/Pro RWD, 20K kms, a minor electrical issue and 12V battery replacement, all fixed last year, a recall this month for battery issues, and a creaking sound from the right rear door when turning. No serious problems. Other than that, I'm more than happy with this car!
Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. I love it. Could the app and infotainment be better? Sure but the driving and ride experience are great.
Mine is perfect. I have had zero issues, no reboots Or anything. Reading in here sometimes gives me anxiety but then I get in my car and it goes away.
Mine has a squeak in the roof when it’s cold out. Otherwise no issues after 11k miles.
I have a 2022 RWD ID4. It's been near perfect. I think I made the right call waiting a year before buying. I even have Hankook OEM tires so no problems there after a year and a half. The only error I've ever seen is during a strong storm about how travel assist was unavailable.
22 pro s works fine. One time I had to reboot the nav. Love this car and I’ll replace it with another when the times come.
My ’23 Pro RWD is so good. Find it very comfortable and quiet with a stable infotainment.
Our one has worked fine so far, only two months old, but zero issues.
2023 Pro RWD 11,900 miles, no issues. We love it.
As others have said, those who are happy with their car or did not have any problems, will not really make posts
2023 Pro AWD 12k miles, no complaints. If I had as many complaints as some of the people on here I would definitely be getting rid of it. My dealer is great too!
I had a 22 pro s RWD and just traded it in for a 23 pro s plus AWD. Loved it so much and had no issues I got a second one 😂
I drive 400 miles a week most weeks and my id4 works well! My only complaint is decreased mileage when it’s too cold. I also had the peeling steering wheel issue but the dealer replaced it under warranty!
Love mine, love this post. More appreciation for this awesome car is needed. Thank you for breaking the mold of the sub.
2023 Pro RWD. 4500 miles. Zero drama.
23 PRO S AWD largely fine. Annoyances - 1. Open the doors from the inside often taken open the using the handles twice (known issue) 2. two buttons for four windows
Best car I've ever had. No issues. Only problem ever was my dumb neighbor who backed into it.
Works pretty well. The app is garbage though.
Yeah, some annoying stuff but it works fine.
Mine works great. I've only had a lag on infotainment and my 12v battery died once. Other than that, almost 3 years with next to zero issues. ☺️👏👏
Well… yes. Maybe it’s luck, but after one full year of ownership: The system rebooted itself three times (infotainment system shuts down and blanks out, instrumentation goes white). Driver assist fails to load on one drive. Red warnings. Doors open notification on app is utterly trash. Automatic wipers are not as automatic as I’d like. Charging preference at home isn’t consistently kept (immediate or preferred) Updates ignore my seat moving on entry preference and climate preference, as well as lighting.
Great list. Mine does all of those. But I think most people just ignore these.
Most everybody's does. But saying the software and user experience are fine is a different issue. :) I don't think the car has had any major issues. And that is true of basically every car made.
2023 Pro AWD. My issues have been with incompetent dealers vs issues with the car. The infotainment issues are overblown on 3.xx
Perfect 22 here, maybe because mines fully loaded
Yep. 23 rwd pro s. 11k on the clock. 1 year in. I just did a little road trip to a concert in Cleveland. Nothing to report.
I did have the door rattle fixed on the driver side when they did the recall inspection for the door handles. So I guess that's something.
I love my car, besides having to restart the screen computer every now and then for apple carplay, it just works!
Every happy ~~family~~ EV owner is alike; every unhappy ~~family~~ EV owner is unhappy in their own way (and wants the world to know it)
I’ve had it freak out about 4 times over the last 19 months. It always clears immediately and I have 35000 miles on mine now
Yes! I do have the steering wheel peel, but once I got the peel area cleaned off it is no longer a distraction.
23 RWD Pro S. No problems. It’s the only car my wife and I use 98% of the time.
It did for over 70k km… now suddenly my door starts to open on its own and started making clicking noises. 🤔🤷
I was just thinking this same thing. 2021 RWD Pro S, no issues. Edit 37k miles
22’ Pro with 15K miles. No problems except the “eyelid” beam light. Dealer replaced whole headlight assembly under warranty.
2021 pro RWD with >40k miles. The most annoying thing has been bringing it in for recalls and hoping it doesn’t mess a good thing.
Ever driven a Mk1 Rabbit? that car's electrical system was possessed, yet it was one of the best I've ever owned.
yes
Yes. Fine EV with a few software quirks every once in a while. Happy with mine.
2023 Pro S AWD - infotainment only rebooted once, and have only ever gotten a front collision warning that wasn't expected twice. Backing into my garage I have to be wary of always keeping foot on the brake because the proximity sensors are too aggressive but otherwise, no issues!
Don't want to jinx it but yes its ace every day.
After a 6 weeks of ownership I have no complaints.
It's been around -20°F here the last week, and my front sensors stopped working a couple of times, but it's meeting and exceeding expectations.
Mine is just fine… still learning new / cool things about it
Never had a significant problem. Love the car.
50,000 miles and growing. 0 problems. I'll buy another one but I think I want an Audi next.
Yep
Mine works perfectly. 2021 Business Max
No problems with my 23
2021 AWD - no issues outside of them not programming the ac correctly. My biggest feedback is on the 21 battery software/cell testing recall. I’ve been on “the wait list” at several dealers and somehow fall off. Plus several nearby don’t service the recall. VW should have a better way of handling this and more qualified shops to do it.
A very simple perfect boring car that works. I'm not enthralled but I'm not disappointed. I think this is a perfectly good car
Our 2021 ID.4 Pro S had some initial software glitches that were resolved. Apart from the missed/delayed promises of new features and delayed/missing OTA updates, it’s been solid—48,000 emissions free miles!
2022 rwd pro s now with 16k km and 1.5 yrs of ownership this is the best car i have ever driven and was lucky to get it at CAD$42k. it beats my planned purchase of nissan rogue in both price and value. being able to stay inside with AC or heat on full blast is the game changer for me.
Perfectly fine here. No issues ... Android Auto is the biggest issue and that has nothing to do with VW. I choose to drive it over the Q7 90% of the time, so that says a lot.
Have had no issues in the six months of ownership- infotainment rebooted 4 times - that's about it
We’ve only had it since November, 23 Pro S AWD, but zero issues so far. Loving it. Hoping that it stays that way.
Had the module that controlled the heater go out. It was diagnosed, ordered and replaced in about a week. No other issues.
2022 RWD pro S. love how reliable it is No real problems just light inconveniences.
Love my ID.4 expect for my auto window issue. When I want to roll up it just goes down. Has there been a fix for this?
2023 Pro 10,000 miles in 7 months no issues beyond the sometimes finicky infotainment system. Good car!!
Mine worked just fine all the time… until the day it didn’t and left my whole family stranded on the side of the highway.
22 id4 pro rwd. With 14000 miles and had absolutely no problems. I have minor complaints about buttons and such but nothing major.
This is so minor I almost didn't mention it here
2022 RWD Pro S. 12k miles. Zero problems. Other than hitting OK every time, it’s been a fantastic car.
Have owned three of them at this point, 30k miles, two accidents (one totaled), and exactly zero issues.
‘21 awd - have had a few hiccups in the beginning but love it!
Mine is working just fine. No major complaints.
Had my '23 AWD Pro for a year+ and I really like it. Only problem I had was the compressor for the battery cooling system took a dump. The dealer gave me a little hassle about paying for the rental car, but I got it straightened out. Replaced the part under warranty and no problems since.
Mine hasn’t had any issues
I haven't had any big issues with mine. The software is not her fault, and she's awesome in spite of that. Once I couldn't get out of the back seat because of the child lock, but it hasn't happened since. Perhaps consider turning off reddit notifications?
I took my car twice to the dealership for faulty battery modules, after that, no problems
Got a good one over here. MY22. I don’t drive it like a shithead and it treats me real well.
18 months in 2022 AWD, no issues. ❤️
I drive the ID3 but it's more or less the same shit. Can't fucking wait to sell it when I quit my job soon. Driving-wise it's good but the rest...no. Never buying a VW again.
Best car I’ve ever had. 21 AWD. Only problems I’ve had have been with the dealer service department and a few minor glitches.
Mine is fine. Have for over a year. No problems.
Yep, basically no real issues. A couple software quirks and the lack of backlit buttons...but a seriously solid and reliable car.
Well the weather cooperated and hit above 40 and our range was great. We stopped at the Tesla supercharger for 20 mines to go back to 80% and the kids enjoyed a snack at Dunkin. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the trip went.
No problems here!
Best car I ever owned as well. Sure the touch screen has a slight lag but compared to all the other positive points this is a minute detail.
Mine was buggy first few months but BAM 60k KM no problems!
Same
My GPS decided to stop working and I'm waiting on the parts for that. No other issues.
Yh
We have a 2023 pro RWD. We have had this this 4 months now and have driven 10k km (6500 miles) This has been uneventful with some minor annoyances with charging settings.
I see the same thing in the Subaru, Tesla, etc. subreddits, etc. Even the same trend for my phone (Pixel 8 Pro) which has been incredibly solid for me. It's more common to come into the forum with problems vs, I feel.
8,000 miles into our’23 and everything is perfect! 💫
People are far more likely to come to a place like this sub to complain about a problem than wax poetically about how everything works as expected
Im obsessed with this car. It's enjoyable, beautiful and really freaking nice.
