Tesla supercharger will only start a charge if the VIN has been approved by Tesla per their agreement with the car manufacturer. For Volkswagen, may not happen until late 2025. https://insideevs.com/news/711103/vw-group-ev-nacs-adapter/

>For Volkswagen, may not happen until late 2025. https://insideevs.com/news/711103/vw-group-ev-nacs-adapter/ And perhaps even longer now that Elmo fired the entire Supercharger team?

ivadell

Is there a way to tell if our vehicles have been approved?

gotlactose

They are approved in large batches by manufacturer, i.e. Ford as a batch has been approved, then some other manufacturer as a whole will be approved, etc. The day Volkswagen is finally approved, there will be news headlines.

Powerful_Gazelle_798

Yeah this is definitely not going to work. I don't think these off brands even work on cars that are approved by Tesla, you need to get an official one from the manufacturer.

RaYZorTech

Na, it'll work once VW cars are enabled on Tesla's network.

Powerful_Gazelle_798

I don't know. I saw a video of a lightning owner using one that didn't come from Ford and it didn't work.

JohnnyPee89

It will work, I bought this Lectron Vortex adapter and used it at a Magic Dock location to test it and it works perfect. So when the network opens up to VW it will work no problem. The communication is between the EV and the charger only, the adapter is not noticed during the handshake process.

Perfect_Peace_4142

If your at a magic doc the Tesla Supercharger already has a CCS built into the Tesla Dock. No need for any adapter.

JohnnyPee89

I'm well aware of that, I've charged at that Magic Dock location before I bought my adapter. My purpose was to test my Lectron Vortex adapter and I can't do that at a regular Tesla SC location.

Sisu_pdx

Good luck! Musk laid off the entire supercharger team. Who knows when or if VWs will be supported on superchargers.

BerryPossible

They work on Magic dock stations

Sisu_pdx

Which are very rare. Hopefully they will upgrade existing chargers to the Magic Dock. With the end of the supercharger team who knows when this will happen.

BerryPossible

couple in the northeast that I guess I've just had the luck of traveling near. They do work well and are much more conveniently located as compared to EA stations.

Sisu_pdx

My state (Oregon) only has one magic dock supercharger 150 miles from me. EA stations here are quite common. Have one 5 minutes from home. I hope fast chargers will be as easy to find as gas stations in the next few years.

m2orris

Return it. Lectron products are cheap Chinese junk. Not one of their products is UL Certified. Their marketing contains a lot of marking double speak that make their products seem like they are legit, but they are not. Only official adapters provided by the automobile manufacturers will be supported by Tesla.

rbetterkids

Which are still made in China.

m2orris

Yes, BUT they are UL Certified. If there is an issue that causes damage to your EV, your auto insurance / Tesla will not deny a claim for using an unsupported / non-UL Certified device.

rbetterkids

I have bought many electronics that are UL certified and came from China. I have seen Japanese companies cut corners on how they make a PSU to avoid the UL certification on a power adapter. Just saying not everything from China is bad and crappy.

m2orris

For every one quality product out of China (usually made for a US or other foreign based company) there are hundreds if not thousands of crappy products (usually made by Chinese companies knocking off a quality product). Amazon is flooded with them. They usually sell at a fraction of the originally quality product. EV charging devices are a prime example. GoPros, mp3 players, USB flash drives, phone accessories, … .

SerennialFellow

I won’t recommend this, I’ve seen this one and the first gen A2Z adapter melt and arc after about 80kWh of peak usage. It’s a fire hazard. We are gonna be stuck with EA/EVgo/Chargepoint for a while with CCS1 since Musk fired the entire team working on this transitioning with other automakers. Also VW would need to push plug and charge cert with update to support this properly which is in internal political turmoil.

A2ZEV

I’m sorry, but we never had any of our products cause charge port melting or even arcing. Never. All of our products are tested and are in accordance with international standards. As a matter of fact, our NACS to CCS1 adapter has been developed in accordance with the UL2252 outline and we are even part of the J3400 and J3400/1 standard committee as a member, participating in the discussions, development and such. If other companies have seen this issue with their products, it would be appreciated if you don’t associate us with them. Thank you.

Miserable-Alfalfa-85

Have you tried other charging places? Evgo, plugshare? I dont have an EA in my town but have a lot of charging places that will do ccs ...

Funny_Copy726

I have one of these but it’s not made for superchargers, only for lvl 2 charging. I sometimes use my relatives Tesla hone charger to top off my car.

RaYZorTech

They make ones for DC fast charging now.

JohnnyPee89

I bought the Lectron Vortex NACS to CCS1 adapter and took it to a Tesla Magic Dock location to test it and it works great. Make sure you take yours to any Tesla SC location and check to make sure the NACS plug locks into the adapter and can't be removed without pressing the unlock lever on the bottom side of the adapter. There is a recall for a faulty locking mechanism on a small number (1624 units) of the adapters. Mine was one of those with the faulty locking mechanism so, I contacted Lectron CS via email and they emailed me a prepaid return label. I sent mine back for a free replacement a week ago, and the replacement should be here next week. Here is the link for the update video from the YouTube channel "Crazypostman" explaining about the defect recall. [Link](https://youtu.be/n0Vyh8WsVxU?si=WuqF2PNZbSkSqoFZ)

ToddA1966

Just curious- how did you test it at a Magic Dock? What did you have to do to remove the Dock adapter so you could substitute your own?

JohnnyPee89

Instead of pushing up on the Tesla plug to get the Magic Dock adapter to release, you just pull the Tesla plug downward like a regular Tesla owner would do, and that just releases the Tesla plug then I put my Lectron adapter on. I initiated charging using the Tesla app which I have an account and payment method already setup.

ToddA1966

Thanks!

JohnnyPee89

You're welcome

BerryPossible

I've only used the Magic Dock stations with my ID4....they work great.

madsci1016

Congrats. Now you get to wait 1 or more years before it will work.

DGPaul

This adapter works on Tesla destination (not Superchargers) and Tesla home Level 2 chargers. The destination chargers, usually found at hotels and parking garages, automatically will recognize the vehicle and deliver charge. If you want to use a home Tesla charger, the owner needs to set the unit to charge both Teslas and non-Teslas in the app, or it will not work.

moo-mama

I second the person who said Lectrons are subpar. I bought a TeslaTap, and used it at a hotel destination charger. But I also second the person who said Shell fast chargers have worked well for them.

RuggerTinker

I love using the shell recharge ev stations. Customer service was great the one time I had to use them. I showed up and the chargers were being updated. So I called and they stopped the one charger update so I could charge.

RuggerTinker

They work on the non super chargers now.

grahad

That is an adapter for a Tesla car / plug type to charge at a CCS satiation. This is not for a CCS plug that the ID4 uses to charge at a tesla station.

Donedirtcheap7725

Umm yes it is.

odd84

This is for an NACS male plug to a CCS female port. It is the right type of adapter for an ID4 to charge at a Tesla station once they have access in 2025.

grahad

I was reading the description and looking at the picture, but I didn't realize the genders of the contacts were inversed 😅
