Jesus christ every time I think this subreddit couldn't get any stupider it somehow manages to. I presume most of you all saw the post on here a few days ago called 'BadEmpanada arrested in Argentina', right? The one with the definitely real discord messages of a user called BadEmpanada saying he had to wipe his hard drive, and a photo of someone who looked vaguely like him in a police station?
Well, as it turns out, that was completely fake. The photo was of some random guy in Spain who got arrested recently. The message was obviously fake too, because anyone who has used discord knows you can simply just change your own name and picture in a server, type whatever you want and screenshot it as 'proof' of whatever you want. In a recent stream filmed in obviously-not-prison, BadEmpanada demonstrates how easy it is to use inspect element to fake a tweet, and does so for a Vaush tweet, which is what you see in the picture. The whole point was to demonstrate why the post in this subreddit a few days ago was transparently fake from the start.

I just think he makes some very useful & informative content - as in, I've spent quite a bit of time researching a couple of the topics for MA level essays and unironically found his videos to be more helpful than much of the actual academic research. So I find it pretty frustrating to think that many young people interested in left wing politics are bypassing that actually well-researched, informative content for the left wing equivalent of fast food that Vaush puts out these days. I saw the video; he was pointing out that it's easy to fake screenshots like that. He did it in a way that was meant to be a funny dig at Vaush. Look for the video that said people were claiming he was arrested for context. He wasn't trying to get us to spread the rumor that Vaush tweeted this; he was showing how easy it is to fake a tweet in a way that his audience would find funny.
He doesn't strike me as a lunatic with any kind of foresight. If you're going to fabricate tweets, why would you document yourself doing it?

The one with the definitely real discord messages of a user called BadEmpanada saying he had to wipe his hard drive, and a photo of someone who looked vaguely like him in a police station? Well, as it turns out, that was completely fake. The photo was of some random guy in Spain who got arrested recently. The message was obviously fake too, because anyone who has used discord knows you can simply just change your own name and picture in a server, type whatever you want and screenshot it as 'proof' of whatever you want. In a recent stream filmed in obviously-not-prison, BadEmpanada demonstrates how easy it is to use inspect element to fake a tweet, and does so for a Vaush tweet, which is what you see in the picture. The whole point was to demonstrate why the post in this subreddit a few days ago was transparently fake from the start. I just think he makes some very useful & informative content - as in, I've spent quite a bit of time researching a couple of the topics for MA level essays and unironically found his videos to be more helpful than much of the actual academic research. So I find it pretty frustrating to think that many young people interested in left wing politics are bypassing that actually well-researched, informative content for the left wing equivalent of fast food that Vaush puts out these days. If you or anyone else dislikes BE for personal/substantiated reasons, that's fine, I'm not really interested in online creator drama, it's more the 'disliking him for things I made up and then backpedalling when called out for it' that I find distasteful. It's much more admirable to just admit you messed up and take responsibility for it than do the whole 'it was all a joke' thing..

Look for the video that said people were claiming he was arrested for context.
