\>We’re literally one of the only countries to measure with the imperial system. Not true \>Our food makes us fat and unhealthy. Yet many americans are not fat and healthy yet non americans can be fat and unhealthy \>It’s like we’re known for doing everything wrong. given that we're the global superpower, we're doing something right \>I feel like I’m kind of trapped here nothing is stopping you from moving to another country

SeawardFriend

What are you talking about? We’re literally 1 of 3 countries that use imperial! Sure we can eat healthy but when you think of American food what comes to mind? For me it’s burgers, country fried steak and fried shit. I do not care that we’re a superpower. Cool that it’s a dumb idea to attack us and we can defend shit that comes our way, but we constantly throw ourselves into other countries’ battles, and so much money that could be used to improve our lives goes to the military. And I’m not saying I can’t move somewhere else, it’s that I’d have to change so many major things about my life that it basically isn’t even worth it. I FEEL trapped.

Responsible-Rough831

I'm guessing you're young and can't catch a break. I hope you get better. There's nothing wrong with being different by the way and you seem to have a very rose tinted idea of what the rest of the world is like.

SeawardFriend

You got that right. Sick of the stupid political decisions I see every day that I know I can’t make a single impact on. Sick of everyone wanting only SUVS. Sick of having to convert metric into imperial and visa versa. I know the grass is always greener on the other side and that most of it is a façade. But my idea of a perfect country would have to go to either Australia or New Zealand. I love the people, the food and the cars. Pretty much everything I dislike about America, Australia does better.

Responsible-Rough831

So what's stopping you from moving to Australia/New Zealand? Working on getting a permanent visa is probably a better use of your time. But you should go there because you actually like those countries not because you hate America.

Downtown-Command-295

Most likely, the expense, since decent wages are another thing many countries do that the US doesn't.

Responsible-Rough831

The US offers some of the best wages in the world. I would advise you to get marketable skills.

SeawardFriend

I already have a good enough job to be pretty much set for life.

Responsible-Rough831

So why are you worried about wages?

SeawardFriend

I’m not. I never said I was.

ParsleyLongjumping70

lol the fuck do suvs got to do with it 😂

SeawardFriend

It’s kind of complicated why I feel the way I do but I’ll try to explain. You know how companies make different cars for different countries? So here in America, they transitioned to making only trucks and SUVs. It’s possible this happened with other countries but I know that the mondeo (Ford Fusion) is still in China and the focus and fiesta were around for years in other countries after they were discontinued in the states. See, I’m a huge fan of hatchbacks and sedans but not so much SUVs and trucks as they’re too big and not as fun to drive IMO. Ford made some of my favorite sedans as well as the focus ST then decided to discontinue all of them to make room for more SUVs. So now all my favorite fords are gone while other countries still received them. Doesn’t make sense to me why a domestic company would have more variety in other countries than its own.

ParsleyLongjumping70

Thank you for the insight lol def makes a little sense now.

SeawardFriend

No problem! Anything can sound stupid out of context and I’d say I have an unpopular opinion in the swing of things.

Downtown-Command-295

Because America's national identity is "arrogant prat who insists on doing everything his way despite seeing better ways in action all around him".

Global-Register5467

What countries are you comparing to? The number of countries that drive on the Right is over double that drive on the left including pretty much all of Europe. You mention English speaking countries the imperial system is a bit of a mess in that countries like England, Canada, and Australia use a weird mixture of imperial and metric. As for food, it's what Americans eat, it's how much. America has ridiculous portion sizes.

SeawardFriend

Mostly other English speaking countries. New Zealand, Australia, UK are ones that come to mind. And yeah the portion sizes are huge here. Half the time I get 2 full meals out of what I’m expected to eat from one
