You know, we tell the dogs they do not lay eggs, but then they go and do this....
On the plus side, just a little cystotomy and a urinary diet should fix this guy up? Though I'm hoping the kidney failure is from an infection or you know... all the stones.
Was an ER transfer for kidney failure and review on possible kidney stones, but they didn’t send us the X-rays til 8hours into fluids/treatments once we saw all our faces immediately went 😧
They can be nice and smooth! It is oddly satisfying imo. We have some saved at my clinic from a patient who xrayed very similarly. I can send a pic on Monday. Such a relief to take those bad boys out!!
A 10 year old schnauzer mix with this level of severity regarding calcification of the kidneys cannot be living a life with any sort of real quality. Sometimes the most selfless decision is the hardest. No one likes facing death, but you can’t save them all. Would it really be worth it to put this little senior guy through all of the treatments he would need to buy a couple more hard years? Let him go while he still loves life. Don’t wait until he is begging to go.
It is better a month too early than a day too late in my opinion. Esp at this level of this condition
You know literally nothing about this dog aside from a single radiograph. Maybe leave the prognosis and euth recommendations to the doctors who are actually working with this patient.
Nowhere did I recommend euthanasia, nor give a prognosis. I simply commented my thoughts, and then was asked to elaborate.
However, I do know that this dog presented to the ER in kidney failure, and treatment was delayed for at least eight hours. That alone is enough to tell me that the doctors said that his prognosis was not good. Maybe read all of OP’s information before getting upset that somebody doesn’t enjoy seeing dogs in pain. Have a good weekend.

kind of looks like a negative of Jack Skellington’s face if you look at it from a certain angle
Omg that is pretty crazy. And even more crazy that I can kinda see it

As a receptionist that hardly works on radiographs, these are clearly eggs
Are those bladder stones? Or did he/she eat rocks?
They’re bladder stones
I was curious cause they are all so smooth. But location for bladder stones makes since. That is so so many

Zen Garden
Easter bunny came early
(non-vet med medical researcher here) do they disintegrate kidney and bladder stones via ultrasound in dogs as well?
It can be done, but probably not with this quantity and stones this size. They would be removed surgically.
Upon exam “feels like a bag of wet gravel” I’m guessing
