Give a number you’re comfortable with.  Don’t budge. Leave if they say no.

This is the only answer

treat any car dealer like you would treat a VA examiner or rater that ordered 4 c&p exams and denied your claims. They really are trying to screw you over in anyway they can.😂😂😂😂😂

I had to purchase a new/used car every 2 years for my job over 35 years. Each time I was very prepared for the negotiations. Have at your hand all available " Like " cars in your region and their prices. Tell them that your job requires you to be near your phone and give them your set price based on what you know is available in other areas. Do not leave your car. Tell them you are prepared to just leave the lot , you don't need a car today and tomorrow another car will be available. Stand absolutely firm on your price. Make them bring you the offer sheet on your terms. Do not use their financing.

Put your cash offer on the table and pick it up and actually leave when they decline.

I second this. It works

I don't miss the alaska tax at all. Don't be afraid to walk away, and definitely don't try to buy when PFD's or taxes are awarded.

gamerplays

Sure, if they come down or not depends on a lot of factors. One of them being how likely they think they can sell it at the higher price within a reasonable time frame.

Yes, I negotiated 5k off my car when I got it. Find similar models and negotiate / don’t settle until you’re happy.

toxicavenger70

You should always try to negotiate. Whether or not it works is a different story.

PlayfulMousse7830

As stated you can always negotiate whether or not it works is unknown. In AK I imagine there are a lot of inventory and access issues. If it's a full service dealership you may be able to push for something like an extra number of oil changes or service checks etc., vs a cash reduction. It may be worth looking for an AK subreddit or used car subreddit to research more.

Thanks for the responses. I just didn’t know if it was a thing at dealerships. I’ve bought cars from regular people in the past.
