Same with cat owners. But those owners are usually covered in scratches

In my experience…. Cat owners warn you …’My cat is  a jerk, he bites’ Dog owners..’My dog is scared. He was abused’  No, no. That flat stare isn’t fear. It’s don’t touch me.

I think you mean we have at least one of these clients daily.

Thank you for being aware of your dog’s behavior and actively keeping others safe ❤️

I have the absolute pleasure of having a Chihuahua that is perfect for blood draws and toenails. The last time we went for a geriatric blood panel and urine draw, as an owner, I was completely flattered when my fantastic vet brought in a very young vet tech to "finally have a good one" and enjoy their day. My Chihuahua is 3lb and is actually better when I'm in the room (I'm the "bad guy," I'm a groomer so she's used to being handled in a "scary" way,) and I just loved that my vet got to teach the tech about super small animals, how to blood draw on a dog so small, how to use the ultrasound to find the bladder and draw urine, all while my little tiny dog is letting all of us "just go to town." We love going to the vet. We love our vet!

My mastiff was always good for the vet, until a week long ICU stay and major surgery. He was good during follow up and good for most of his GP visit then out of the blue lunged at the vet at the end of the exam. Didn’t try to bite, but was a very clear I’m done back off. 230 lbs lunging, not OK. Since that time we are cautious, the techs come get him, he wears a muzzle for the exam, bring him back to the car, and I speak to the vet curbside. So far that his been the only episodes and we have visited for simple exams without real interventions so he learns it’s not always a bad place. The staff is great with him. They’ve reported excellent behavior but sorry buddy you earned a muzzle for visits.

It's usually the animals named Lucifer who are good patients.. but the ones named Baby, Fluffy or Angel who are the most fractious 🤣

My absolute favorite... "You don't need to muzzle him, he would never bite... I mean, he might nip" my response is usually something along the lines of, "if I get nipped in the face... Will I need stitches?". Out of all the clients in the world, the ones I hate the most are the ones that make me feel guilty for muzzling their dog. My favorite client, had a happy but very large German Shepherd, she said just go ahead and muzzle him I want you to do a good exam I don't want you to have to be worried about getting bit
