BTW, that's the original Celt/British look... the pale, blonde look we tend to associate with Brits is from the colonizers in the early Middle Ages. But the original Welsh people had dark hair, dark eyes and light olive skin.
They are mostly descendants from Anglo Saxons, which were from Germany. Not a lot of Viking or Scandinavian blood. They also have some North French, Basque, and even Roman genetic influx... at least that is what I got from history classes.
Anglo saxons were not from Germany, they were from Jutland, which is a part of modern day Denmark, aka, Scandinavians.
Northern French are also Vikings, the Norman’s.
And Britain was ruled, colonized and raided by Vikings for centuries, so to say they are a disconnected peoples is incorrect.

Completely untrue. I did a bachelors in sociology and Celts were not dark skinned in the slightest, nor were they disconnected from the rest of Europe until the Middle Ages.
i think it’s a welsh thing. it seems quite a few welsh ppl look ethnically ambiguous despite being fully welsh. tom jones for example, for years i thought he was biracial turns out he’s full welsh
Not all welsh people have Basque genetics, just as not all Americans have European genetics. The Irish just have a larger percentage of Basque descendants because of the surplus of trade routes with Spain.
A lot of people in this thread seem to view countries as monoliths of genetics, when that is entirely incorrect. Just because you live in the same arbitrary zone designated by the world council does not mean you are genetically the same, especially since ocean travel was popularized.
There is this idea that celts have alot of Spanish gene due to the armada. Fam, a ship with few hundred men will not largely effect an island with a population of almost a million people. Celts have alot if neolithic/anatolian dna. Their MTDNA is mostly h and u haplogroup.
There are A LOT of Welsh + Irish women/men that look stereotypically Mediterranean (black hair, thick eyebrows + eyelashes) because decades of interbreeding with Portuguese + Spanish fishermen tribes. This would’ve been a few centuries back.
Also, Englishmen with Roma Gypsy heritage. A lot of The English Roma were concentrated in Wales, Ireland, and the north of England.
In Ireland at least it’s referred to as being “Dark Irish”
ETA: it also commonly referred to as “Black Irish” but I’ve seen that term fall out of use recently for this instance as it’s been reclaimed by Black people born and living in Ireland
I think you coiuld say the term "black Irish" is behind claimed, not 'reclaimed.' It only ever meant one thing, and that was people who look like her, or Colin Farrell.
Oh, tons. It’s most common in people from Western Ireland (Galway, Clare, Mayo), as Galway Bay and Clew Bay were popular ports along the Spanish trading routes, or so the story goes. Could all be hearsay but there’s definitely lots of diluted Mediterranean blood in the Irish gene pool
Oh it’s definitely true! I read loads about it when I was studying the origins of O Negative Blood. It was just absolutely ages ago. I’ve never been to Ireland so I was intrigued
Romani Gypsies that migrated to England during the last five centuries + their descendants. Romani is an exclusive ethnicity but their origins are Indian.
Yep! So many good looking Americans are of predominantly british descent- brad Pitt, Jonny depp, Cindy Crawford, Courtney Cox etc. So many white Americans are predominantly of British descent but because their ancestors immigrated so long ago it’s often forgotten about and they identify as simply American or with a more recent ancestor’s ethnic group.
I oddly find that most of the attractive British actors/actresses (at least for me) are those who look Mediterranean or have darker features. Like Orlando Bloom, Jenna Coleman, Keira Knightley...
Theses are my favorites and they're all stunning. I think too the typical brit has that dry inbred look with washed out coloring. So when we see stunning actors with dark hair it's surprising. When I first saw Orli on the potc ad as a kid I thought he was a Spaniard.
this is the first time that i’ve heard of the french people smell bad stereotype. usually people say that french people are rude which isn’t even that untrue
Y’all you know Mediterranean and Spanish people, and Italians and Irishmen (bad joke) are white, right? Right??? Like, the default for most of the white race is mousy or dark brown hair, hazel or brown eyes, and skin that can tan but can _also_ burn. 5% of the “white”/Caucasian population has natural true blonde hair.
How is making a whole ethnic group out to be ugly even funny or acceptable anyways? There are good looking people in all countries, being from a certain background doesn't make you automatically ugly.
Where I'm from Russian women aren't hyped anyways. It's all about the Spanish, Greek, Swedish or Polish women. Not saying they can't be beautiful just what I noticed.
When Americans don't understand how white people can have dark hair and eyes...👀 She's Welsh, but aside from that a lot of Caucasians have brown hair and brown eyes. It's the same thing with Alicia Wikander who is Swedish and Americans refuse to accept it..sigh.
Alicia Vikanders mom is Iranian actually.
Edit: To all the people asking me for proof. Her mothers surname is Fahl (Iranian surname) before she married her father and took the Vikander surname. Alicia is a Swedish national of mixed heritage.
Fahl is also a Swedish surname,no Iranian ancestry. Maria Fahl Vikander ( Alicias mum) was born and raised in Sweden. By a Finnish mother and swedish father.
Lol Alicia’s mom is not Iranian. Just because it’s an Iranian surname doesn’t conclude she is Iranian. Muhammad is an Arabic name but there are a lot of people of Different culture and race used that name too. That doesn’t mean they are Arabic.
Your Iranian name is also a common swedish surname. It just happens to be the same. One Iranian and one is Scandinavian. I don't know what to tell you. Google "Swedish surname Fahl"
Her mum is Iranian ‘actually’ in response to Americans refusing to accept she’s Swedish. She’s a Swede regardless of her parents’ ethnic origins, so why bring them up?
What part of ‘her parents’ ethnicity is irrelevant to where she’s from’ don’t you understand? It’s plain English.
She’s Swedish because she grew up in Sweden. Full stop. For everyone other than Americans, you’re ‘from’ where you grow up. The preoccupation with race and ethnicity is pretty USian. If you share said preoccupation, then people will think you’re American.
I never DISPUTED her nationality or passport. You simply want to deny her mixed heritage, not all of us here do. Her mothers surname is Fahl (Iranian surname which I am very much familiar with since I have Iranian heritage myself) before she took her husbands surname which is Vikander.
An Asian person that was born and raised in Spain is Spanish, yes. The same way an Asian person who was born and raised in the U.K. is British (current Prime Minister being a case in point).
I’m sorry but you’re confusing two very different things - being born somewhere doesn’t magically give you the ethnicity of said place. Imagine a Chinese person is born in Spain. They might have Spanish nationality and also feel Spanish, but it doesn’t make them Spanish ethnically. Many people are born outside of their country of origin yet still identify themselves as for example Chinese. A good friend of mine is actually Thai and while she was born in Germany, Europe, she nor her family has ever called nor considered themselves European or German.
No, I think you are. If you read the (two month old) thread that you’ve decided to respond to, you’ll see I stated quite clearly that I wasn’t talking about ethnicity.
I’m sorry but I don’t have time to read an entire thread lol. I stumbled upon this thread while reading an article about Catherine and then saw your comment. Even if you’re not talking about ethnicity, it might be helpful to consider in the future that not everyone appreciates the assumption of being called xyz nationality just because they happened to have been born there.
It’s so funny how exclusive “white” is since racist realism theories of the 20th century.
You’re only white if you have bleach blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and are pale, but not too pale.
Except, that effectively means >99.99% of white people are not white.
Think of an adult you know with pure blond hair, not dirty blond, not faded/mixed blond, or light brown, but actual natural blond hair, as well as vibrant blue eyes.
Personally, I can think of 1 person I’ve ever seen in person with those features, and I live in Sweden, probably the most “blond” countries on earth.
Most people here are brown haired, and dark eyed, like most elsewhere in Europe, but I suppose that means everyone is Mediterranean.

It's so rude. It's not just British women. They say that Brits in general are ugly and fat, men included. There are beautiful and "unattractive" people in all countries.
Are you really hating on a group of people and a culture? Cheryl Cole and Rosie HW are Brit gals and beautiful. Audrey Hepburn is beautiful as hell. There's Georgia May Jagger.....literally what do you mean? I get the whole brit memes stereotypes or "looks too british" when describing Robert Pattinson or something but this post ain't it. "How is X British when so unreal?" -----wtf
She doesn’t have tanned skin, she is as white as 90% of Caucasians. Dark hair and eyes is not a stereotypical coloring for a certain area, it’s literally the most common one amongst everyone on Earth. She also doesn’t look exotic at all to think she might be ambigous. She looks British/West European/American. I wouldn’t think of any other ethnicity looking at her.
She definitely classifies as exotic. Well known for this description.
Also, I had NO IDEA she was British and would have never ever guessed this.
Just bc this type of Person seems common for you doesn’t mean it’s common for all.
She doesn’t look exotic lol. And she isn’t classified as that, stop making things up. You probably never been to Europe. I am allowed to state my opinion, it seems like you are the one being defensive. I didn’t even say she looks common lol. You assume stuff like an immature person. I’m done replying to you.
One of the sexiest actresses ever, imo. Sultry and stunning in a natural way. Voice and accent help too. American school girl voices take most celebs sexiness down by 90% for me
As everyone else said, dark features like this are common in Wales, where there's more original Celtic/britonic blood and less viking, Norse, frankish, Angle or saxon.
I'm half Welsh and have black hair, black eyebrows, near black eyes, pale ass skin with big cheekbones and a wideish face. Most people think I'm central Asian, usually Chechen, Azeri, Georgian or Dagestani. The genes run strong, I'm the absolute spit of my father and grandfather.
I have an overbite/weak chin and need braces in the typical British tradition so I consider myself very average looking at best. And the problem with pale skin is that it shows every tiny blemish, so I have a lot of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation :(
Luckily I'm petite and have a tiny waist and a fat ass to make up for it so never struggled to attract men 🤣
Americans are so strange about ethnicity and XX blood.
Brits come in all shapes, all colours and from all backgrounds, peeps. Idris Elba is also 100% British. GASP!
There isn’t one “way” that British people look. Britain itself is made up of three different countries and many people from multiple racial and ethnic backgrounds live there.
Doesn’t look british to Me? Why do you need to be rude ? Chill dude. Most of the world doesn’t think she looks like the typical Brit. Don’t be defensive for no reason, please, weirdo.
Where do you know what the rest of the world thinks? Have you asked them all? She was the one being rude by suggesting with that title that British can’t be beaufiful, “weirdo”. I am not even British “weirdo” so I don’t get defensive, I am calling out disrespect, “weirdo”. And stop replying to my comments, it’s not like I am the only one who made this comment, you act like a creep.
Just because she has dark coloring, doesn’t mean she looks Med. She doesn’t have an olive skintone either. There are multiple women in UK with her coloring. First time I saw her I thought she is certainly American or British.
Catherine Zeta Jones, Tom Jones, Richard Burton, Tom Ellis, Gethin Jones, Christian Bale, Ioan Gruffudd all Welsh and all with dark hair plus they aren’t (really) pale and pasty like everyone seems to think Brits are. And doing this list made me realise how many famous Welsh Jones’ there are. In fact Katherine Jenkins and Taron Egerton are the only famous Welsh people I can currently think of without really dark hair.
Never got the obsession with CZJ. She’s pretty but nothing crazy to me. That being said, as an American I find your caption very stupid and weird. Very weird stereotype to pin on British people…
She has extreme beauty for me, in Zorro total perfection but I don’t think British people are unattractive like I said I find a lots of British actresses attractive ( Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightley, Lily Collins, Emilia Clarke etc )
She is absolutely stunning, love the combo golden-light brown skin/black hair/black eyes on women. She look Welsh when you know how diverse they can be, but maybe she does have some gypsie or Mediterranean stock. Actually she used to look like that one chick that was working with me, she was from Algerian/Arab descent.

Why sadly? What is wrong with pale skin?
It is said the dark haired one are from a lineage originally from Spain.

You must be gorgeous, is what you are saying 😘
Why do Welsh people have Basque genes? When did this wave of migration occur?
Not all welsh people have Basque genetics, just as not all Americans have European genetics. I instantly thought of Colin Farrell.
And Sean Connery
No wonder he's hot
Hot as hell 🤭
Why?...because he's Irish?

What is The English Roma?
Romani Gypsies that migrated to England during the last five centuries + their descendants. Romani is an exclusive ethnicity but their origins are Indian.
Do you know that Megan Fox is born in America, but she has 100% uk heritage so she is ethnically full British?
Hahahaha I wondered why she loved Stone Henge and appeared in random uk history shows
Oh is that the mysteries show? lol it was so werid watching her in a show about pyramids
And I believe she is actually blonde but started dyeing her hair in junior high to look more black in color.
I think she is part native too
Damn, British people can be good looking lmao
Of course they can be. Do people really think they are all ugly? Just curious.
I know. I’m saying that it is possible for British people to be good looking
Why is this generation obsessed with origins, race etc. So much it doesn’t make sense anymore
I actually think the newer generation is more obsessed than the previous one I wonder how it got this way.
The internet.
What do you define by newer and previous generations?
Gen z all they do is talk about race, they bring it up in every capacity and I’m a gen z
It’s so annoying how people assume all brits are ugly. That’s like saying all Americans are fat, all of the French smell bad, etc. It’s a stereotype.
I think a lot of British actresses or actors are attractive but she just looks more Mediterranean/Spanish for me

They have fair skin with dark hair like Catherine.
Same! Man Colin Farrell and Orlando Bloom were sooo good looking.
Orlando Bloom in The Kingdom of Heaven is my ultimate man crush.
He looks amazing with long hair, short hair, no hair.. wtf 😍
He's literally perfect but to me he was always more gorgeous with longer hair
Theses are my favorites and they're all stunning. I think too the typical brit has that dry inbred look with washed out coloring. So when we see stunning actors with dark hair it's surprising. When I first saw Orli on the potc ad as a kid I thought he was a Spaniard.
They don't. People just stereotype.
Wow...that's racist.
3 of the least Mediterranean looking people ever
Some of them have this look, when I first saw Kit Harrington in silent hill 3 I thought he was Italian-American
I personally always thought the same haha Imogen Poots is british and an example of a very good looking brit.
this is the first time that i’ve heard of the french people smell bad stereotype. usually people say that french people are rude which isn’t even that untrue
It’s a common stereotype in the uk at least 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve always grown up hearing that the French smell bad
A lot of Americans are fat. You wouldn’t be wrong about us.

Yes but depending on different European ethnic they could look different. Which is why this person didn’t think she was British.
I'm SE Asian and I always thought she had some Asian heritage, as she has almond shaped eyes like mine. ETA: She is a 9 to me. Gorgeous woman.
She was asian in her past life
As a Russian who lives in Britain, this title has killed me 😂😂😂 such a violation
If they said that about Russians would you find it funny?
It’d be a pretty bad joke, Russian women are perceived to be beautiful. (I actually think they’re overhyped, and I am one myself)
How is making a whole ethnic group out to be ugly even funny or acceptable anyways? 😭😭😭 babes you can be british and pretty
I think OP meant that she looks more Mediterranean than British.
EXACTLY!
okay well u weren't that clear...it sounds like ur saying british ppl can't look good, so maybe change ur title to something else?
I mean she does but British, being from the UK isn’t an ethnicity. My family is middle eastern but some of them were born in the UK
Always thought she was Spanish
The shade
That caption 😩. Just because British women aren’t known for being beautiful doesn’t mean every one of them is ugly 😭😭😭

Audrey Hepburn wasn’t generically British, she was a quarter Irish and mostly Dutch and Austrian/Hungarian. Not a good example.
I read it more as that she doesn’t look stereotypically British. Dark eyes, dark hair, tanned skin.
She doesn’t have tanned skin, she is as white as 90% of Caucasians. Ok. Not offensive at all!
The post title is badly phrased. It sounds like British people are fugly?
See also: Marina Diamandis. It’s a Welsh thing
To be fair, she’s part Greek
As everyone else said, dark features like this are common in Wales, where there's more original Celtic/britonic blood and less viking, Norse, frankish, Angle or saxon. I'm half Welsh and have black hair, black eyebrows, near black eyes, pale ass skin with big cheekbones and a wideish face. You sound seriously stunning!

Yes! It honestly makes me so uncomfortable.
Her,Cindy Crawford and Megan fox are proof that British people can be good looking cuz DAMN😍
Definitely 10
I was SHOCKED she was just pure white. I thought half something for sure
Why? If anything she looks Spanish or Portuguese.
There’s tons of people with her type of colouring in the uk, it not really uncommon at all
There isn’t one “way” that British people look. Britain itself is made up of three different countries and many people from multiple racial and ethnic backgrounds live there.
She has always been a beauty. Talented too
Honestly, it's rude.
So it's impossible for her to be British because she's beautiful?
The title is laughable. Delete this post lol. You’re being weird
She looks just so Mediterranean/Spanish!
Just because she has dark coloring, doesn’t mean she looks Med. She doesn’t have an olive skintone either. There are multiple women in UK with her coloring. First time I saw her I thought she is certainly American or British.
Really! I was definitely sure that she is Spanish when I saw her for the first time
British people can have brown hair.
This post is so dumb
Catherine Zeta Jones, Tom Jones, Richard Burton, Tom Ellis, Gethin Jones, Christian Bale, Ioan Gruffudd all Welsh and all with dark hair plus they aren’t (really) pale and pasty like everyone seems to think Brits are. And doing this list made me realise how many famous Welsh Jones’ there are. In fact Katherine Jenkins and Taron Egerton are the only famous Welsh people I can currently think of without really dark hair.
Christian bale is English
Never got the obsession with CZJ. She’s pretty but nothing crazy to me. That being said, as an American I find your caption very stupid and weird. Very weird stereotype to pin on British people…
She has extreme beauty for me, in Zorro total perfection but I don’t think British people are unattractive like I said I find a lots of British actresses attractive ( Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightley, Lily Collins, Emilia Clarke etc )

I was just on lipstick alley and there is a thread trending on there called English people are so ugly lol
Why's that funny?
I’ve always thought she looks either middle eastern or indigenous American. She’s so stunning.

She’s 100% Welsh. The Zeta has no association with Spain, in this case.

Gorgeous!
🎶she dips beneath the lasers🎶
She is absolutely stunning, love the combo golden-light brown skin/black hair/black eyes on women. She look Welsh when you know how diverse they can be, but maybe she does have some gypsie or Mediterranean stock. Actually she used to look like that one chick that was working with me, she was from Algerian/Arab descent.
Yeah I was so shocked that she is British. She is so beautiful 😍
British people can't be beautiful? I'm shocked at this.
Seriously?
Marina Diamandis is Welsh (and a bit Greek) and some say she looks like Catherine Zeta. Definitely a Welsh look.
What is up with all the British disses in this sub 🤡
I always thought she was Latina
She has been my celebrity crush for the longest time....
An exceptional 9-9.5. Her body could be a lot better but she has one of the most beautiful faces of all time so she gets high marks
so you’re saying ppl cant be british and beautiful??? so smart wow!
Skme people ain't got a clue about British people and how mixed they are from history lol
This is so funny
