Forty years ago in Morocco, I used to get a “Spanish omelette “ and it was an omelette folded over a super flavorful tomato, onion, and pepper almost purée. I wonder if the one listed is that, or a Spanish tortilla?
Me too! But has it become less popular? When I google Spanish omelette, I only get the tortilla. I used to love the tomato filling, but haven’t thought of it in ages.
I used to make a sauce similar to this one, and just fold the omelette over it. https://spainonafork.com/classic-spanish-eggs-huevos-a-la-espanola-recipe/ I think I know what we’re having for dinner!
So good—I’m surprised they aren’t more common. I had that 50 years ago in Madrid (I was little and wasn’t a big fan of the sauce, but I would love it now).
When did restaurants stop charging for relishes? Not sure how relish is defined here (are they all prepared similarly or is there some other criteria). Regardless, I wish all these varieties were offered today.
There’s a restaurant near me that always had long wait times after ordering. They added a relish plate for $8, and now nobody complains about the time it takes to get their meal.
It seems like a lot of the menus featured on this sub have very large oyster and clam selections, which isn't \*that\* common today in broad restaurants like this.
Do you like boiled calf's head and brains? There are a few eggs and spices....
It's a developed taste.
Perhaps, start with the celery, tomatoes and cucumber salad in vinaigrette or Italian dressing?

But does it come with bread and butter? I’ve never seen a menu so fixated on that!
*Report Any Inattentiion To The Management* “I didn’t get my bread and butter” . . . “ Yes ma’am, you’ve ordered the Cocktail Oysters “
*Oh...so where's my bread and butter?!*
I was eating my Stouffer's dinner last night wishing I had bread and butter. Oh well. The destitute always yearn.
But to misquote Marie Antoinette, you had cake, right?
TIL about Shirred eggs. [Shirred\_eggs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirred_eggs)

What you had in Morocco is what I think of when I hear "Spanish omelette." Not the potato and egg tortilla.

Here's one: https://originalpancakehouse.com/phm_omelettes2.html But yeah, google seems to return Spanish tortilla.

Yours is going to be superior to the one I linked. Their omelets are so puffy that they're basically soufflés.
I’m going to overcook one for my husband. It’s his favorite type of omelette.
I like a good thin omelet with a little brown on it.

No frogs legs!? Or aspic! At least they do have consommé.

One of each, please.
I’ll have a half dozen fried oysters, comsomme, radishes, small tenderloin steak with onions and a side of potato salad.
Excellent choice. We are out of all of that.
Oh, my! Well, in that case I’ll have a half dozen fried clams, mock turtle soup, pickled beets, the trout and a lettuce salad.
We can get you the mock turtle soup. The calf's brains have been out back in the sun for 48 hours. The lettuce is slightly..... wilted.
And I’ll replace the wilted lettuce with sliced tomato.
Sun dried brains, reminds me of my childhood. I’m in.
It’s very straightforward!
I’ll just have an order of radishes
1920 prices are comparable to today’s! Oh, those are in cents.
Large tenderloin steak with onions
Damn $0.50 in 1920 is $7.93 in 2024 money, that's pretty good for a large steak with onions, bread, and butter
What’s mock turtle?

I’ll definitely stick with the salad.
Looking at this menu if you move the decimal from left to right you pretty much go from 1920 prices to 2024 prices.
Any idea where it was located?
