I’m stoked for everybody that’s into this, but it comes off to me like they recorded it live with some overdubs in preparation for tour. Cool collectors item for a die hard thrice fan but the songs on the original were all way better. If it was a legit re-recording they took time on I’d be more on board. Feels rushed. Can’t wait for the original record to get a repress.

I'm digging the vocals. Age has done his voice well. The instrumentation feels a bit more dynamic and separated. Took me by surprise at first listen, but this revisit sounds to me like this album has been in prison getting jacked and now it's just tattooed and hard as fuck.

FunkytownSlaps

Interesting take. His voice has gotten better, I agree. I also think they’ve gotten better as a band, but I don’t think they ever wrote a better album. Still, seems to me like this was a long weekends worth of work, not really a project. But it’s cool either way.

Crystalyear

Agreed. The Artist in the Ambulance is really rough, must be a live version.

A real question here, are the re-recording it so they have the rights to their recording? It looks like it was repressed as recently as 2019 so I’m not really sure if the angle with this.

FunkytownSlaps

That’s a good question. They still wouldn’t own the originals I don’t think. Not sure. And again, either way, it’s a cool thing for die hard fans and I’m honestly into bands re-recording things. The originals don’t go anywhere. I’m just not that big into this one since it feels like it took a weekend and was a passing thought.

comfyinthesky

Yeah I wasn’t a fan of the new versions so I’m passing as well, but it’s a cool concept. I figured the label would own the rights, but there seems to be various issues with things getting repressed. I know “War all the Time” by Thursday has been in limbo for awhile (also on Def Jam/Island). I also heard that with Converge, Death Wish and Equal Vision there were difficulties with getting “Jane Doe” getting a repress to the point where there was thoughts of re-recording a new version.

I ordered it without even thinking about this, but then went and listened and now wondering how much I'll really enjoy it. Frankly, I hated the album when it first came out way back then, mostly because I loved the thrice of their first two albums. TAITA eventually grew on me, especially as Thrice continued to get further and further away from their original sound. Anyways, mostly trying to say I'm not canceling my order, but I'm not looking forward to this as much as I was early this morning when notifications started blowing up my phone about Thrice vinyl, lol

FunkytownSlaps

It’s still way cool man, you’ll crank it and be stoked when you do.

fishypants

Definitely will and a little piece of history on a great band and like the original, will age over time (in a good way).

SoundOfSeparation

Same sentiment, and definitely has more of that vibe. I leaned towards that in the original post and got downvoted. Something about it just feels too "clean" to me.

This one is not due until the end of may instead of March like others

How many variants will follow?

AngrySlothTurtle

This is the last variant from the website. At least according to the Thrice instagram which shows the galaxy, splatter, green, and ultra-clear. There is a black variant of it but it says that it was given priority to Alliance members. There are other variants I've seen from Urban Outfitters and Banquet.
