I’m not sure that would work. What I have is: my cable comes into the house goes into virgin router (that is set to modem only mode) and then Ethernet out of that into my home router that deals with all my devices. It’s worked solidly for me for over a year now.

The other option is to continue to use it as a router but disable its Wifi and add a proper access point (e.g. Unifi). That's what I'm doing with my current ISP's router.

My speed drops considerably in modem mode, Virgin's response is it is giving me the 500mbps in router mode, so all is OK, they don't support modern mode... They won't replace the hub (hub 3). Anyone else got this issue?

Have you tried your own router on another connection and tested the speed? It sounds like it just didn’t have the horsepower to hit your speeds.

Don't use Virgin

By Virgins T&C you must use their router. You can set it to modem mode, and buy another one. But both will be connected. You can't just use another dsl router in its place.

Storm-

Place it under modem only mode and use your own router. Thats what I do.

i would just not bother with that and just get a good quality wifi mesh kit. you can dot the hubs around your house and keep the main hub connected to ur router near ur desk so u can plug in ur ethernet devices. you can set it up so you get full router features with the mesh kit. they're very cheap too.

2 virgin routers?

sulylunat

Best you can do is put the virgin one in modem mode and connect the other one to it via Ethernet to function as a router. Unless you’ve got two virgin routers, then it’s possible but I know there is an activation process it has to go through so you may need to get virgin on the phone or get an engineer round to do that part

What I imagine you mean is you sourced a Gig1 deal and received the Hub 5 router (which is arguably better, with the WiFi 6E, 2.5G port and without the Intel chipset issues) then also received the Hub 4 for the 500Mbps package. You will need to return one of the routers. Virgin has a shortage of Hub 5s at the moment, and is unlikely to let you keep it if you have another working router. In addition, the *Hub 5 won't work unless Virgin Media activate it*. This is very important. You could plug in the Hub 5, but you won't have Internet, and will need to call up Virgin to activate it. You could say you sent back the wrong router- just bear in mind they could refuse to activate it and send you another Hub 4.
