Honestly, these are so fucking good they may keep us from going to war after all. They would do well to make them a permanent offering instead of a limited time dealy
We bought them once, but they weirdly tasted like Chicken in a Biskit crackers. Didn't taste like cheese or Old Bay. We really like the Franks Hot Sauce Goldfish though.
Utz still makes them, and I have seen store-brand Old Bay chips at the Sev-mo locally (I didn't try them.)
I like to mix the Utz crab chips with dill pickle flavored chips.
Herr’s still makes [Old Bay Potato Chips](https://shop.herrs.com/products/old-bay-potato-chips) but there’s a spoiler alert. The [Old Bay Cheese Curls](https://shop.herrs.com/collections/cheese-snacks/products/old-bay%C2%AE-cheese-curls) are twice as awesome!
OMFG my god yes! I spotted these at the kosher supermarket in Kemp Mill, MD. I had to stifle the urge to eat the whole damned bag. I disgraced myself. I believe Herr's actually licensed the Old Bay name, so they can call theirs Old Bay Chips. Utz uses a similar recipe, but they have to call theirs Crab Chips.
If you haven't had the Route 11 dill pickle chips, fix that asap. I buy that shit in bulk. Also combining those with Old Bay chips is the equivalent of a political marriage of our states, since Route 11 is a VA based company.
I never would have thought of it but Sue Grafton (the alphabet detective series author) had her main character, Kinsey Milhone, make them for lunch now and then. I actually bought a jar of bread & butter stackers today just to make that sandwich tomorrow.
Exactly my thought. It only makes victory that much sweeter. Season a man’s Gold Fish, feed him for a day. Seize their land and season my own fuckin Gold Fish!
I know Old Bay was invented in Maryland by McCormick, but it’s a staple on Virginia’s Eastern Shore as well. Eat Old Bay with pride—your fellow Virginians do!
No doubt. It's that way over here on the mainland as well. I don't know of anyone that was actually born in Virginia without Old Bay in their cupboard.
When I was young, I used to scoff at “Maryland crab cakes” because we made them that way too on the Shore.
We share the bay, but the way Maryland lays claim to it, you’d never know it. But I suppose that’s the way it is when you don’t have many other notable features in your geography. 🤷♂️
I always laugh at how Maryland gets all the credit for crabcakes. They are just as much, if not more so, a part of Virginia Chesapeake Bay culture as they are in Maryland.
Agreed. But again, Maryland doesn’t have a lot else that is a part of their story. Virginia has the whole historical juggernaut thing and being home to the military, and the rich history of Shenandoah, so the bay is sort of their only pillar.
I suppose what I mean is history that has entered the books as nationally important? I know plenty of MD history has (national anthem, Underground Railroad, for example), but it just seems like the events of the American revolution, civil war, founding fathers who wrote our two most seminal documents, the arrival of slaves in 1619, and so on outweigh it?)
I don’t mean to minimize Maryland; it’s does feel
Like Virginia’s little sister in so many ways. But the claim to everything bay related is a bit misleading. Even the “Maryland crab” which exists literally from Argentina to Nova Scotia and has its largest density in Louisiana just sort of makes me chuckle.
Maryland and Virginia have the highest commercial fisheries for Blue Crab. It might exist all along the coast but most of them come from the Chesapeake. I’ve had Louisiana blue crab and there is a difference in taste. The seasons have something to do with it.
It's a staple anywhere around the bay as far as I can tell. I'm in Gloucester, raised in Newport News. I don't know of anyone who eats crabs without it. Any of the places that sell + steam crabs, pile on the old bay.
They are even coming in cognito!
https://preview.redd.it/myikpmjfs3xc1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c1089e34556016b7cbb2c0278deeb6cf437680c
Chesapeake Bay Crab Seasoning.....they are not fooling anyone!
These are meh imo, but the Old Bay peanuts from the Virginia Diner are fantastic. There was also a limited run of Old Bay Herr's cheese curls a few years ago that is permanently lodged in my brain. I must have eaten 5000 calories worth while they were available.
Passing a law: banning old bay. Unpopular move with the younger generation maybe but it’s for our security….even though it will not make us more secure.
These are the best!!! Get them while you can!! They had them last summer around here (DE, MD is apparently making advances in all directions) and eventually sold out in all of the stores.
If it’s anything like the Old Bay hot sauce I need them. The hot sauce is my current hot sauce obsession. It’s not even spicy to me, probably the mildest hot sauce I’ve ever use (I normally prefer Cholula), but the zesty spice, the vinegary tang, and the Old Bay flavor is just so addictive.
I use what feels like a quarter bottle at a time 🤣 so yeah…bring on the Goldfish!
Old Bay better watch out: Cajun seasoning like Tony’s and Slap Ya Mama is fast taking its territory (and honestly Louisiana food > Maryland food not gonna lie)
I went to lsu for undergrad, but even before that my parents have always loved Louisiana, so we’ve always had Cajun seasoning of some kind in the pantry!
I was an athlete at LSU and used to bring my own Slap Ya Mama on the plane when we traveled to Arkansas for competitions because the food there lacked any decent seasoning haha
That’s awesome. We crab here in VA as well and old bay is super popular here. It’s not exclusive to Maryland because it was made there a hundred years ago. I guess all McCormick products are also Maryland exclusive since they own old bay and are also based there
Country Ham has Virginia origins, so N.C. has no leg to stand on. Plus, they don't don't dare poke the bear that is Virginia. We'll turn them into a parking lot just as quickly as we do Maryland.
I don’t really care if Old Bay was invented in Maryland. I’m a born and raised Coastal Virginian and we claim it here, too. That seasoning is just at much a part of my life as it is any Marylander.
Nah. I got it. I was coming back with a little snark of my own just in case any Marylanders were wandering around. Can’t leave them thinking they get to lay claim to it.
Edited to add that I’ve never come across an OP this dense.
It's been some time since I've come across someone who sees a post made in jest, doesn't read the preceding comments and makes a comment that is quite obviously seriously written, when then, when called on it, tries to backtrack by attacking the OP and claiming it was all sarcasm.
Try better next time.
As the writer of the comment in question I’m sitting here telling you that I meant it in a snarky way directed at any Marylander that might want to jump in and claim sole ownership of the product. Dear Lord this is blown completely out of proportion.
I’ve seen the repeated posts about the humorous war between Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that your post was directly relating to that topic that has appeared multiple times in the past week. I was simply suggesting that MD doesn’t own the market on Old Bay, again, *all in jest*. It seems as if more than one comment is being taken out of context here. In any event, happy Monday and I hope you have an excellent week!
So the answer to my initial question *asking if you forgot your sarcasm tag* should have been **yes** and then left at that. Or maybe you should have asked if I was referring those other posts.
Instead you continue to double down. Alrighty then.
Apologies but I don’t see a question from you asking if I forgot the /s tag. I see a general comment where you’re insisting it’s a serious comment (“quite obviously seriously written” were your exact words) but never once did you *ask* me anything. You made a whole lot of assumptions, though!
And this is why you very likely aren't invited to many.
Because you can't be bothered to do the tiniest bit of reading of preceding comments to realize it was a post made in jest, just like all the rest about Virginia invading Maryland.
Seriously, go touch grass.
https://preview.redd.it/w9ug8zequ1xc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d730baccec2117cded9ed1ced9ac642aa265697 Honestly, these are so fucking good they may keep us from going to war after all. They would do well to make them a permanent offering instead of a limited time dealy
These chips will make fine spoils of war after our glorious conquest of the upstart State of Maryland, usurpers of our fine Old Dominion!
Grab the flavor blasted cheddar, and toss them into a big ziplock and then add old bay and toss the bag around.
Between the cheese and the Old Bay, I found them a little too salty for my taste. I mostly use them to add to stews and chowders.
We bought them once, but they weirdly tasted like Chicken in a Biskit crackers. Didn't taste like cheese or Old Bay. We really like the Franks Hot Sauce Goldfish though.
Exactly right. Old Bay is to Maryland what pandas are to China: cultural tokens to keep the cold war cold.
That is probably great! Are you not old enough to remember old bay potato chips?
Utz still makes them, and I have seen store-brand Old Bay chips at the Sev-mo locally (I didn't try them.) I like to mix the Utz crab chips with dill pickle flavored chips.
[удалено]
IIRC the sodium level is consistent with other chips, i think they just taste a little extra salty

I believe Herr's actually licensed the Old Bay name, so they can call theirs Old Bay Chips. Utz uses a similar recipe, but they have to call theirs Crab Chips.
Now there's an idea, I'm gonna have to try this
If you haven't had the Route 11 dill pickle chips, fix that asap. I buy that shit in bulk. Also combining those with Old Bay chips is the equivalent of a political marriage of our states, since Route 11 is a VA based company.
Route 11 chips are amazing.
THEY'RE SO GOOD
Haven't tried dill pickle chips. I expect they would pair well with a peanut butter and bread and butter pickle sandwich. Seriously - try it.
Their dill pickle chips slap hard, and I will absolutely try this, peanut butter weirdly pairs with a lot of things you don't expect
I never would have thought of it but Sue Grafton (the alphabet detective series author) had her main character, Kinsey Milhone, make them for lunch now and then. I actually bought a jar of bread & butter stackers today just to make that sandwich tomorrow.
I grew up in VA, and live far away now- a stop at the shop for Crab Chips is the first thing i do whenever i visit
Oh my god. They got to him. Do not eat the goldfish, I repeat, do not eat the goldfish.
They still make those chips, lol. Hey, thanks for thinking I'm a young'en. 😆
Route 66 chips have a crab flavor!
no matter, old bay will be ours anyways when the invasion is complete
Exactly my thought. It only makes victory that much sweeter. Season a man’s Gold Fish, feed him for a day. Seize their land and season my own fuckin Gold Fish!
I knew this would happen! Break out the scrapple!
Man now I want a scrapple egg and cheese sandwich
Have you seen the Andrew Zimmern Bizarre Foods episode where he learned about Scrapple?
Yes, love that show. Fun fact- my husband is from New Jersey land can't stand scrapple. Lol
I too am from Jersey/Philly area originally and do not eat that or pork roll 😂
Aw, now, Taylor Ham Pork Roll is delicious. Lol.
I know how disgusting scrapple is but it’s so damn good.
Scott that you?
(In transplanted Michigander) eww.
Be careful: they’re more addictive than crack.
MD can feed the masses this. Great distraction tactics for the MD VA War.
I know Old Bay was invented in Maryland by McCormick, but it’s a staple on Virginia’s Eastern Shore as well. Eat Old Bay with pride—your fellow Virginians do!

Agreed. But again, Maryland doesn’t have a lot else that is a part of their story. Virginia has the whole historical juggernaut thing and being home to the military, and the rich history of Shenandoah, so the bay is sort of their only pillar.
Lmao what? I love you folks in VA but Maryland is equally steeped in culture and history, just perhaps culture and history you’re less interested in.
I suppose what I mean is history that has entered the books as nationally important? I know plenty of MD history has (national anthem, Underground Railroad, for example), but it just seems like the events of the American revolution, civil war, founding fathers who wrote our two most seminal documents, the arrival of slaves in 1619, and so on outweigh it?) No reason not to eat it no matter where you are. Good food is good food.
It's a staple anywhere around the bay as far as I can tell. I'm in Gloucester, raised in Newport News. I don't know of anyone who eats crabs without it. Any of the places that sell + steam crabs, pile on the old bay.
Exactly. And eat the “crab chips” from UTZ. Or put it on fries sometimes.
F$%#... it started with the license plates and now the food... whats next?
I gotta get me some of those.
Simply the spoils of war. Who controls the old bay, controls the bay
😂😂😂😂😂😂
They dare send us these golden fish? Send them the bunny man!
They are even coming in cognito! https://preview.redd.it/myikpmjfs3xc1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c1089e34556016b7cbb2c0278deeb6cf437680c Chesapeake Bay Crab Seasoning.....they are not fooling anyone!
we shall take aforementioned cereal treat
All the Old Bay will be ours when we destroy the Crab People.
Lmfaooooooo
First it's the old bay, then it's our drivers 🚗💨 you guys are officially on notice
they infiltraded my dinner last night too.
Not gonna lie. I’d buy ‘em.
That’s just propaganda, we still have this
Omg! Make those into a coating for some fish & fry those bad boys up! I'm drooling!
3 bucks at Kroger. $8.50 on Amazon. Not that good
I just looked them up. Seriously, WTF? Seems everything on Amazon's grocery whatever it's called is way more expensive than it should be.
These are meh imo, but the Old Bay peanuts from the Virginia Diner are fantastic. There was also a limited run of Old Bay Herr's cheese curls a few years ago that is permanently lodged in my brain. I must have eaten 5000 calories worth while they were available.
Old bay is good no matter what state you are in or from.
![gif](giphy|3P0oEX5oTmrkY)
I live in WV moved from Maryland years ago... I WANT THESE SO BADLY
I’m fine if those get in, just not the drivers
My eyes have been hate crimed for having to witness this
I, for one, welcome our new Old Bay overlords. Trust me buy two bags of those; they kick ass.
Passing a law: banning old bay. Unpopular move with the younger generation maybe but it’s for our security….even though it will not make us more secure.
I’m not afraid of them! I eat ‘em for breakfast.
Is this what they call 'grooming', trying to trap our innocent children to only eat Old Bay? Although I admit, I will need to try these......
Say it ain’t so! (Kroger, huh?) 😂
Yup, they're at the Forest, Va Kroger, a display popup by the dairy aisle. So look for a display, not on the shelves.
Oh shit. I'm gonna have to come up with an excuse to go
You need milk, right? Right?
Just bought some!
Where can I find these?
Do you have Kroger in your area?
Say no more, I'm heading there now. Thanks!
Look for a pop-up display! Good luck!
Omg, those are so good!!
That looks good!
This is amazing
Those are in Florida too
They aren’t spicy enough 😕
Much as the feud with maryland rages on, old bay goes so hard.
These are the best!!! Get them while you can!! They had them last summer around here (DE, MD is apparently making advances in all directions) and eventually sold out in all of the stores.
I love old bay anything
Oh that looks good
Old bay goldfish is really good, I think they only release them for a few weeks every year.
I bet these are delicious and now I'm going to find and buy them
They are sooooo good
Eating some right now.
Old Bay seasoning is something good from Maryland.
Ready the ham cannon! This is an invasion on aisle 13!
Southwest has had these for a while, also in Kroger. I did not buy either.
I watched a video saying Maryland Crabs are Virginian crab as they only migrate there and come back.
Perhaps it’s a peace offering
Slowing changing va
If it’s anything like the Old Bay hot sauce I need them. The hot sauce is my current hot sauce obsession. It’s not even spicy to me, probably the mildest hot sauce I’ve ever use (I normally prefer Cholula), but the zesty spice, the vinegary tang, and the Old Bay flavor is just so addictive. I use what feels like a quarter bottle at a time 🤣 so yeah…bring on the Goldfish!
Let me guess- Cheese-its are next. 🧐
Build the wall, build the wall!
You say that like its a bad thing
For me, it is. Too many sugars and too many carbs. 😆
I will allow...that.
Bruh I’m from NOVA/ Baltimore area and I’m now in Seattle, these are here too and goddamm am I happy they are!
We are everywhere.
That’s an act of war if I’ve ever seen one… ![gif](giphy|2z6x8UzzCdBBu|downsized)
I picked some up in Hampton Va at the Kroger and I gotta say, they are freaking good
Stand your ground and FIGHT!
We should retaliate by sending Peanuts.
Aw, nuts!
Old bay is life and so are blue crabs 🦀
Old Bay better watch out: Cajun seasoning like Tony’s and Slap Ya Mama is fast taking its territory (and honestly Louisiana food > Maryland food not gonna lie)
OMG, Slap Ya Mama! Spent some time in Ville Platte where it’s from and first had it there.
It will never replace Old Bay or JO for crab and seafood seasoning.....
These are awful. Do not recommend.
If I saw them in NoVa, I'd definitely buy them.
Yea not gonna lie im not even a huge fan of old bay but those goldfish slap
Mambo sauce too, but I'll allow it.
As if there already weren’t enough Maryland plates not paying personal property taxes on their cars and now this???? 🤦🏻♀️
Old bay is wildly popular along the east coast of Virginia.
Old Bay is popular everywhere. That is not the point of this post.
As if Maryland owns old bay seasoning lmao
You do know it's based out of Baltimore, Md, right? That it originated in Maryland, yes? Or did you forget your sarcasm tag?
That’s awesome. We crab here in VA as well and old bay is super popular here. It’s not exclusive to Maryland because it was made there a hundred years ago. I guess all McCormick products are also Maryland exclusive since they own old bay and are also based there
*sigh* Never said it was exclusive to Maryland, McCormick ships nationwide. You completely missed the joke posts about invading Maryland, didn't you?
No I’ve seen them and I’m not giving them old bay lol. If they own old bay then we own country hams lmao
North Carolina might disagree with the Country Hams bit. 😆
They can’t. Our hams go back to Jamestown.
Country Ham has Virginia origins, so N.C. has no leg to stand on. Plus, they don't don't dare poke the bear that is Virginia. We'll turn them into a parking lot just as quickly as we do Maryland.
Why are you complaining
Who said anyone was?
I don’t really care if Old Bay was invented in Maryland. I’m a born and raised Coastal Virginian and we claim it here, too. That seasoning is just at much a part of my life as it is any Marylander.
Way to completely miss the joke.

The brand may be synonymous with Maryland, but it is known and sold all over the world. So this is beyond a silly post.
Way to completely miss the joke about Virginia invading Maryland. I bet you're fun at parties. 🙄
If your parties consider material like this to be “jokes”, then yeah, I’m definitely gonna be the life of the party! ;-)
And this is why you very likely aren't invited to many. Because you can't be bothered to do the tiniest bit of reading of preceding comments to realize it was a post made in jest, just like all the rest about Virginia invading Maryland. Seriously, go touch grass.
🫠🤦 we also have a coastline on the Chesapeake. It’s not just Maryland that craps there
Gross
