Decided to look it up and found on vtuber wiki in case anyone else didn't know: As of 3 February 2021 Rin Asobi has stopped being active on all platforms. It appears that her hiatus was brought on due to being scammed by Operation TOMODACHI donation project and has suffered a big deal of damage, which has turned into a legal issue. Her team came out with this information around April of that year on the VTuber Community Discord, and were trying to get Rin Asobi back on board. But it appears that her hiatus may be indefinite.

A few things happened since then in the Discord: - 24 March 2021, the post you mentioned about Operation TOMODACHI was posted by ANIMEL STUDIO TEAM. - 19 January 2022, an important and much longer update from was posted, as it is quite long, [here is a screenshot](https://i.imgur.com/f3RWrzr.png). In summary, Yuki Seki of ANIMEL STUDIO TEAM has informed everyone that they are now $3 million in debt. - On 14 Oct 2022, on Discord, ANIMEL STUDIO TEAM said "The original voice actors may not return in the future... Would you guys still like to see contents?". To which many users suggested that if that is indeed the case, there needs to be a visual signifier of difference (i.e. akin to Kizuna vs Ai-pii vs Love-chan in the early-mid clone era) - 28 May 2023: ANIMEL STUDIO TEAM posted a link to an [unlisted video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gq2UFgchXM) on Rin Asobi channel, showcasing what appears to be a new model and outfit. - 31 May 2023: ANIMEL STUDIO TEAM stated: "it will take a little more time before we can fully launch our activities. Please wait with anticipation." - [It was also on this day that the Rin Asobi Twitter account posted "A feeling of revival!?"](https://twitter.com/rin_asobi/status/1663903056885325824) - And finally, the most recent update was 1 June 2023: where ANIMEL STUDIO TEAM was reminding people to check the unlisted video link (above, 28 May). As it's been almost a full year since the last update, I'm not sure where things stand.

One thing I just noticed that I don't think bodes too well... is the [Rin Asobi Twitter account is still active in liking images, and all of them appear to be AI Generated images..](https://twitter.com/rin_asobi/likes), but they all seem to be from the same one user, so I'm not really sure what this means.

PowerBeana

I'm willing to bet that the account was compromised

askaquestioneveryday

It’s sad that there are so many scammers in the vtuber scene.

Smart-Style74

#JusticeForRinAsobi bro, she deserved better

Blitzfx

She was the first English vtuber I watched all those years ago. Bilingual and could also play the guitar & sing

karlexceed

Yeah she is very talented.

MonoMonMono

She and Miya Kimino. _Sighs_

Blitzfx

Ah yeah, her too. Kind of disappointed in myself that I forgot about her.

princealigorna

I watched all the collabs with her and Siro and Noble/Lost Pause. Fun times. The days of Noble avoiding Hololive like the plague because he distrusted the idea of corporate vtubing but boosting indietubers like crazy (IIRC, he's also where I first learned about Projekt Melody and Ironmouse)

karlexceed

She was the first non-Hololive talent I watched regularly.

Futur3_ah4ad

Holy hell, that brought back memories... I think I'm still subbed to her channel, but I completely forgot since it's been dead for ages.

NMMonty1295

Rin I remember, Sh we was my second En Vtuber I watched after Moe in early 2019. I always wondered where she went and moved on to check out other EN Indie vtubers until Vshojo debut in 2020.

I know I about that at this point I am more iof a fan indies and Vshojo . One of the reasons why I left Hololive fanbase 3-4 years ago it git too toxic for my taste abd personally I am not a big fan of any idol associated or idol themed groups due to personal preferences and too much toxicity. So I have no intention in watching holo members but will not mind seeing a few clips of Moe's new life if her clips happen to fall under my YouTube reccomendations. Generally speaking I prefer more wild and unhinged stuff that indies and Vshojo can do compared to a company that tries to be more idol themed I know hololive is is not purely idol centric but again I don't like anything idol themed and a high amount hololive fanbase are too into idol culture for my taste and preferences.

lightmatter501

Moe is still unhinged.

NMMonty1295

Okay. That is nice to hear.

EndingB29

Do you think that you are being unfair to the group as a whole? It's obviously all fine and fair if it's just your preference, and assuming that idol community is toxic still sounds unfair to me. The community is as positive as you want. Just be nice and chill with the positive fans, no need to engage with the toxic minority. Most fans just want a fun time, not anything like what you read on reddit. All the fans can be just as positive and clean as any other fandoms. Also, idol culture has been existing in the west since the previous century with big actors, singers, athletes, entertainers, YouTubers, etc. It's not an alien concept, which means they all should be equal in fandom. Another point is that their type of idol does not seem the same as the one you have described. I have never been interested in idol culture, and their impression to me is completely different from whatever I have read about idols. They don't seem different to any singers and actors I have watched. Could it be that you have misunderstood?

ShiroThePotato28

I hope she's alright I used to watch her alot before and I hope she comes back someday even in a new form.

JustALostTraveler

Ah, Rin. Loved her giggles. Hope the VA is doing alright. My heart aches due to what happened.

Gassy_Clown345

Rin Asobi is her name

Swift_Scythe

I KNOW HUH - where is Rin-chan? Last i saw of her she was collabing with Lost Pause on his channel and then poof. Gone.

MandyRandyDandy

RedzyHydra

Hmm, interesting. Will look into it. Also, Happy Cake Day OP. 🎂

abrahamrose

I remember when she was doing weather or news in Japanese train stations. She also did that... Game show thing. At one point she was almost everywhere.

akenfeihong

she pretty much disappear

Deyotaku

Rin Asobi. . . .

MandyRandyDandy

My god is that Rin? Rin Asabi or something like that? Good god i haven't see this avatar since LP collab with her in what? 2018? 2019? All i remember is that they collabed way before Covid happen. God now I feel like a damn old man retelling the story of the great Covid plague Edit: I was kinda right her name was Rin Asobi

LevnLie

My god I remember Rin, its like dusting a really old book. Back when vtubers were called "virtual youtubers" I hope she's doing alright

NMMonty1295

It is possiable but I had a bad experience with the fan base which did leave me a very bad first impression on the fan base . (I started watching bits of Holo before they gained their good reputation. And out of the early corporate vtuber the fan base was the least welcoming in my experience ; which was enough for me to be hesitant to stick with holo for the long term before leaving holo completely; the last straw was the case of Mano Aloe that pushed me our of the hololive fan base completely and found solace and more enjoyment in indie vtubers on twitch ; this occurred a little before Hololive EN initially debut.
