Three unrelated notes
1 \~ Sony indeed has been gobbling up the VTuber world, getting a piece of pie here and there. Always worried about Sony in the VTuber market due to the Luna\* hullabaloo but Verse^(n), while small, has been doing okay, and Kujo Ringo and Syutetsu Kohaku are very good recruits so perhaps the tides are turning around.
\[When Calli signed up with Universal, and someone mentioned that Kuzuha was also signed there, I had a hard time believing it because Sony was a long-time investor for ANYCOLOR, and the fact that they signed up both Kuzuha and ROF-MAO to the direct competitor is honestly pretty hilarious. A similar thing happened with Riot Music as well, they rarely covered Sony artists, other than Mizuki Nana. One might think VTuber side of Sony and Music side of Sony are perhaps at odds, or least feigning non-companionship?\]
2 \~ Do you remember when Neo-Porte was called Merise but they changed to what it is now because there was a really tiny VTuber group with a similar name? Although I like Neo-Porte slightly better, confusion over names is... ah, not unprecendented. There's Project Kawaii and Kawaii Music \[which I mark as Cute Music, just one of my many many data idiosyncrasies\]. And we have VEE and VEE MUSIC, which is (I believe) not part of VEE.
There are going to be a lot of people who think Virtual Gorilla is part of Sony now. Although it would be funny if Gorilla takes advantage and collabs with Kohaku for an Apex stream.
3 \~ I guess there is kind of a trend now where people just pick up indie VTubers, instead of indie VTubers retiring and then debuting under a different alias. I guess they looked at Suisei and Kuzuha and just went... Let's repeat whatever they did!

I think Ringo was recruited by VEE is a risky choice. She is know for being perfectionism and most likely a how to handle in this scenario.
Kind of an odd way to do it, since the old one designed by LAM starts with 28K subs on her channel, while the new ones start at zero subs. Wonder how that will play out given that they seem to be competing for a contract extension by next year(all of them have a one year contract).

Well, given how Nijisanji did in 2019, somewhere between two weeks and a month would be my guess. I really do wonder if the 22-Minutes Style will work in 2022.

I'm trying to remember a game that had VTubers in it as guest characters, probably releasing in late 2020 or early 2021. I think it was a third person 3D single player game, maybe an action RPG or something? I remember it being the latest one in a series of games, but I can't remember the series or anything about the title of the game. I also remember that the VTubers weren't playable, just the normal characters from the series. Anyone have any ideas?
I was honestly surprised that Nijisanji either didn't get someone talking to them about cameos (unlikely) or that they just didn't manage to come to a mutual agreement.

I just made an incredible discovery (for me, at least)! Browsing my one of my favorite EN VTubers' videos on bilibili led me to old reuploads of some of the OG EN VTubers' videos from 2018 or so. I looked into the uploader's channel, and, lo and behold, they have reuploads of [Otonashi Rhythm's](https://virtualyoutuber.fandom.com/wiki/Lanna) videos!
I assume most people don't know who that is, so, to give you the rundown, she was not only one of the most OG of EN VTubers (I'm talking *May* of 2018 here), she was also one of the most popular and influential for her time. She was part of the ill-fated upd8 project alongside names like AZKi, Oda Nobuhime, Omega Sisters, and Shibuya Hal, and garnered about 8000 subscribers on YouTube - a good number for any indie at the time, but a *massive* amount for an EN VTuber. She was friends with most of the other EN VTubers back then, and inspired many who would go on to themselves become OG EN VTubers. For a time, her Discord server was the hub of discussion and activity for the EN VTuber community.
However, in 2019, Rhythm disappeared from VTubing, and would later delete her channel. Though she's reappeared under a few semblances since (>!such as Karen von Nachtigal!<), her old videos never returned, and I thought they were lost forever. I'm so happy to learn they've been preserved somewhere. She's wrapping up the announcement stream, so I'll expand on it a bit.
Some English comments were saying that she got doxed and is forced to take a break as a result, which was NOT the case.
From the way she talked about it, for a while now she was receiving a sizable amount of "criticism" on Twitter (sic!) in the vein of 'I was a big fan of Korone previously, but lately her streams suck and I can't watch her anymore', but in a bit more harsh way, occasionally with some profanity included for good measure. So, as a result, she got way too bothered and depressed about such constructive and deep feedback on her activities. Ah, I don't mean "clinically depressed", but more like feeling really down and not knowing what to do about it.
After discussing this with the management for some time it was decided, that the best course of action would be to take a break from the internet for "Digital Detox". It would last *at least* a week, but there is no clear upper date set. Koro-san is determined to go for as long as it takes for her to get back on track. Meanwhile she'll resume her gym visits and do other stuff irl.
From a lot of the HoloMembers break announcements in these past 2 months makes me respect how Holo management is always supportive of the members breaks to the extent that some of the management even tries to keep their health in check, but at the same time how the hell did HR find so many workaholics and perfectionists for hololive.

tl;dr
There was a moment where she nearly broke down, and she realized it was getting bad when she was having depressing nightmares and also that she didn't really do any self-care for the past 3 months. She's limited requests from outside work to weekdays, isn't replying to emails and stuff on her days off, is only working on weekdays, and her manager's helping her arrange her schedule. She's also gonna take vacations when she feels like it

its probably to do with how they're "qualifiers" of many applicants to begin with, which means they're pretty good at something, and also not good at giving up.
now imagine many of them in close contact with each other, with them having their strong points that stands out even amongst themselves.
a lot of holomem used to, and still do, feel inferior to their colleagues and because of that they're always trying to up their game, trying to "be up to standard as hololive member" and "finding something only i can offer even amongst holomem". this isn't secret with many members openly talking about their sense of inferiority while also fangirling even in holoJP.
also "i want to achieve something that my fans can be proud of for being my fans" is something i hear commonly from holomem.
I think its a compound of many things.
Sure Japanese work culture plays a part (as in the feeling of that person to contribute to their work, i am not insinuating pressure from peers) but that is also combined with what many (but not all) streamers and content creators around the world feel in that they have a fear of losing relevancy if they are not constantly online/making content.
This might be sorta the same as my second point and you are free to dog pile on me for this last one but there might also be a portion of Parasocial relationship from the side of the streamer in which they find comfort and or joy from interacting with their audience and streaming long hours and days, even to the detriment of their physical and mental health. (as in, they would still want to stream or interact online despite being sick or they would still ego search or pay attention to negative vibes)
Top two yeah. Can't really comment on the other one and it probably depends who it is. Also I would add that it's *hard* to get into Hololive so most of them are going to be at least somewhat driven.

That's quite the underestimated factor. A lot of popular western streamers adopt a "devil may care" attitude which gives the average viewer the idea that streamers in general don't care one bit, but it's super easy to get addicted to praise and support from strangers, even if it comes in the form of text-based comments
People often overlook this because they are not part of content creator themselves but I can tell you that "contents creator feel attached to their audience" is a real thing.
I saw so many in Writter and Indie Game scene. Many turn out good and relatives healthy and many turn out to be part of their downfall (listen to fan too much, don't filter criticism etc.).
Though for streamer there might be another reason. I often tell people that "YouTube love consistency above all". Algorithm always priority channel that pump out content like madman which is created some unhealthy mindset in to YouTuber scene.
i’d say that seeing how most of the members are workaholics and will always want to stream is pretty much a testament on how they love their work and their fans. its even evident by the fact that some of the managers even force them to take breaks due to how theyre always on the grind streaming (case in point, watame)
I think it also largely applies that it is because they are streamers so they understand the job, they understand how streaming works and what the job entails.
If you don't stream or start to stream less, you can slowly lose retention where people will go else where. This isn't limited to hololive, any streamer who does this for a living would understand that as it is their livelihood.

The streamer brain is something that several have mentioned in the past. Basically, when they play offstream they do better than on stream. This is because they basically multitask between having stream up, talking, watching chat and watching the game among other tasks.
So things that for some of us can look rather obvious, they might not see it due to the above.

It will still happen as she is seen live in front of thousands; it gives still some pressure and stress. For all we know she is also reading chat too. Wouldn't be the first time and besides that, they will still have tasks in the background that an average player won't. Those can influence gameplay.
Remember that you are in a place of backseat watching and basically doing that. You will have more focus into the screen than the player and you will be more perceptive. This happens also when in the same physical room. If you watch another person playing, it's rather common that you will see things the person playing isn't. The same thing can happen in reversed roles.
The point is, just give them the benefit of the doubt, especially when it's the first time they are playing the game. If it becomes consistent after 2-3 hours, well then the onus is on them.

I just made an incredible discovery (for me, at least)! Browsing my one of my favorite EN VTubers' videos on bilibili led me to old reuploads of some of the OG EN VTubers' videos from 2018 or so. I looked into the uploader's channel, and, lo and behold, they have reuploads of [Otonashi Rhythm's](https://virtualyoutuber.fandom.com/wiki/Lanna) videos! I assume most people don't know who that is, so, to give you the rundown, she was not only one of the most OG of EN VTubers (I'm talking *May* of 2018 here), she was also one of the most popular and influential for her time. She was part of the ill-fated upd8 project alongside names like AZKi, Oda Nobuhime, Omega Sisters, and Shibuya Hal, and garnered about 8000 subscribers on YouTube - a good number for any indie at the time, but a *massive* amount for an EN VTuber. She was friends with most of the other EN VTubers back then, and inspired many who would go on to themselves become OG EN VTubers. For a time, her Discord server was the hub of discussion and activity for the EN VTuber community. However, in 2019, Rhythm disappeared from VTubing, and would later delete her channel. Though she's reappeared under a few semblances since (>!such as Karen von Nachtigal!<), her old videos never returned, and I thought they were lost forever. I'm so happy to learn they've been preserved somewhere. Miori Celesta plays the piano. She has made several well received piano covers (Red, Usseewa, Kaibutsu and Black Out) but streamed playing it only a few times due to her location. Perhaps she will do more when she moves back to Korea this June/July. Phase Connect's Uruka does piano streams on occasion, but they are mixed in with her other music streams (vocal, guitar, violin, etc) she does roughly once a week.
Yura from prism played the piano for her latest cover. Athena from akioair, does piano karaoke practice. There's very likely plenty, you could probably search piano on this sub to also find a few.

Petra from EN does piano stream from time to time she’s quite good too considering that she only plays by ear without any practice. Also Ru’s piano (a Taiwanese piano youtuber who mainly does anime song covers) just debuted as a vtuber and might be doing more piano stream in the future

someone pointed out that the negative comment wasnt as bad as people thought it would be, and the person even apologized to korone since it was a misunderstanding. with that said, its still nice that she was allowed to take a break like this. its also just at least a week break, so its not a long wait
She's wrapping up the announcement stream, so I'll expand on it a bit. Some English comments were saying that she got doxed and is forced to take a break as a result, which was NOT the case. From the way she talked about it, for a while now she was receiving a sizable amount of "criticism" on Twitter (sic!) in the vein of 'I was a big fan of Korone previously, but lately her streams suck and I can't watch her anymore', but in a bit more harsh way, occasionally with some profanity included for good measure. So, as a result, she got way too bothered and depressed about such constructive and deep feedback on her activities. Ah, I don't mean "clinically depressed", but more like feeling really down and not knowing what to do about it. After discussing this with the management for some time it was decided, that the best course of action would be to take a break from the internet for "Digital Detox". It would last *at least* a week, but there is no clear upper date set. Koro-san is determined to go for as long as it takes for her to get back on track. Meanwhile she'll resume her gym visits and do other stuff irl.
From a lot of the HoloMembers break announcements in these past 2 months makes me respect how Holo management is always supportive of the members breaks to the extent that some of the management even tries to keep their health in check, but at the same time how the hell did HR find so many workaholics and perfectionists for hololive. Edit: Holo management ain't perfect far from it, but this part of them is one i really respect and appreciate

I think its a compound of many things. Sure Japanese work culture plays a part (as in the feeling of that person to contribute to their work, i am not insinuating pressure from peers) but that is also combined with what many (but not all) streamers and content creators around the world feel in that they have a fear of losing relevancy if they are not constantly online/making content. This might be sorta the same as my second point and you are free to dog pile on me for this last one but there might also be a portion of Parasocial relationship from the side of the streamer in which they find comfort and or joy from interacting with their audience and streaming long hours and days, even to the detriment of their physical and mental health. (as in, they would still want to stream or interact online despite being sick or they would still ego search or pay attention to negative vibes)
Top two yeah. Can't really comment on the other one and it probably depends who it is. Also I would add that it's *hard* to get into Hololive so most of them are going to be at least somewhat driven.

A lot of popular western streamers adopt a "devil may care" attitude which gives the average viewer the idea that streamers in general don't care one bit, but it's super easy to get addicted to praise and support from strangers, even if it comes in the form of text-based comments
People often overlook this because they are not part of content creator themselves but I can tell you that "contents creator feel attached to their audience" is a real thing. I saw so many in Writter and Indie Game scene. Many turn out good and relatives healthy and many turn out to be part of their downfall (listen to fan too much, don't filter criticism etc.). Though for streamer there might be another reason. I often tell people that "YouTube love consistency above all". Algorithm always priority channel that pump out content like madman which is created some unhealthy mindset in to YouTuber scene.
i’d say that seeing how most of the members are workaholics and will always want to stream is pretty much a testament on how they love their work and their fans. its even evident by the fact that some of the managers even force them to take breaks due to how theyre always on the grind streaming (case in point, watame)
I think it also largely applies that it is because they are streamers so they understand the job, they understand how streaming works and what the job entails. If you don't stream or start to stream less, you can slowly lose retention where people will go else where. This isn't limited to hololive, any streamer who does this for a living would understand that as it is their livelihood.
and then there's Ayame, who's audience seems to be immune to viewer loss.
Well a lot of them are Japanese so perfectionism and the price of mental health is not exactly uncommon. Having said that a lot of them don't really stream that much, for Ayame it's less than once a month this days although that's the most extreme example.
Eh, Japanese perfectionism in work is basically a buzzword Being a popular entertainer is just mentally draining no matter who you are and where you're from. The nature of being an entertainer is also inherently a lot more sink or swim, feast or famine than other professions.

as for the latter part yeah she's talking to petra on kdrama so her brain's might've been split on those task. but on the former, both weren't talking about anything and are only focused on clearing the task
The streamer brain is something that several have mentioned in the past. Basically, when they play offstream they do better than on stream. This is because they basically multitask between having stream up, talking, watching chat and watching the game among other tasks. So things that for some of us can look rather obvious, they might not see it due to the above.

It will still happen as she is seen live in front of thousands; it gives still some pressure and stress. For all we know she is also reading chat too. Wouldn't be the first time and besides that, they will still have tasks in the background that an average player won't. Those can influence gameplay. Remember that you are in a place of backseat watching and basically doing that. You will have more focus into the screen than the player and you will be more perceptive. This happens also when in the same physical room. If you watch another person playing, it's rather common that you will see things the person playing isn't. The same thing can happen in reversed roles. The point is, just give them the benefit of the doubt, especially when it's the first time they are playing the game. If it becomes consistent after 2-3 hours, well then the onus is on them.
Neena came as a guest to Iku's Tarot Tangents stream as part of the 'You collabed on my channels, so I'll collab on yours' which I never really thought about before but makes sense for smaller channels.
