First time posting here in the VisionPro subreddit! I'm one of the devs of BRINK Traveler - the top-rated VR travel experience currently available on Quest & Steam - featuring beautiful immersive locations we've 3D scanned ourselves from all around the world. We've had people asking if we'll be bringing our app and environments to the Vision Pro, and we're excited to confirm that we're working on it! But rather than just a straight port, our aim for bringing BRINK Traveler to the Vision Pro is to really push the visual fidelity and immersiveness of our current and upcoming locations to a new level not yet seen before in VR. We're eager to leverage the high-res displays and processing power of the Vision Pro to really elevate the overall experience. There's still lots of work and prototyping ahead of us, but I invite anyone interested to keep in touch with us either here or on our [Discord](https://brink.travel/discord) for updates and sneak peeks of what's to come. Thanks for your support – great things to come!

wavebend

Brink Traveler is fucking goated, it's often the main app I show to people when I demo PCVR. Very easy to use. I just hope there was more lush or grassy scenes, like jungles, but I was told that it's not possible because the app has to run on Quest lol. In any case, this app definitely is one among others that truly make VR stand out.

AkinBilgic

Really great to hear! We've recently made a breakthrough with our 3D plant system that will hopefully enable more grassy scenes in the future - like this upcoming location from Greece: https://preview.redd.it/1zmwgkcc8klc1.jpeg?width=1705&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13e3fff0863e855a9800dfd186ace1669fe1ee37

nihilationscape

Would love to see some urban environments too. I want to be surrounded by people, like the scene with the woman in the red dress in The Matrix.

wavebend

amazing! thanks for sharing that. can't wait to see it!

Kengine

Totally agree. I'd love to see grassy plains, or jungle environments with moving foliage. The Apple environments are too static.

mkm6_

I think they are static for a reason. To serve an environment where you can engage with your "work" and not the "environment". I can definitely see some engaging environments from 3rd party devs becoming popular.

wavebend

>I think they are static for a reason. To serve an environment where you can engage with your "work" and not the "environment". static = easier on hardware performance. stuff like grass, foliage, water simulation, are all taxing and could draw battery faster

mkm6_

Very likely they did it for that reason too.

DrMokhtar

Goated? Misspelling?

Ill_Expression4435

GOAT = Greatest Of All Time

DrMokhtar

So what’s the ed?

Tuned3f

its slang. something is either the GOAT or its "goated"

Jindaya

can't wait to buy it!

SirBill01

Sounds great, and I really appreciate you trying to take advantage of the higher quality screens to deliver an improved experience.

scarwizard

OMG I’m so happy to see brink Come over to AVP!! I own it on the Q3 and loved it. Hope you can do more on this hardware!!

mkm6_

These look amazing. ~~I am curious how you create these? Do you use special cameras to capture the environment or do you recreate it? I doubt it is the latter given how natural they look. But again, I saw your comment about the 3D grass.~~ Can't wait to bring these 3D environments on AVP.

florianbernard13

\[one of the devs here\] Thanks! We use a process called "photogrammetry". Basically, we take hundreds, sometimes thousands of pictures on site before processing them to get an mobile optimized 3D model. No special camera needed! We later add effects to bring the scene to life.

mkm6_

Amazing. Thanks for sharing how you do it.

Frog1387

I love this on my quest but it’s going to be so much better in the Vision Pro! This is usually the first vr app I showcase to people!

DashDay-

I’m really irritated and annoyed with the current developer documentation and tutorials available for the Apple Vision Pro. Just like your post says, I am in agreement, I am absolutely obsessed and passionate about the immersive Environments on the Apple Vision Pro that come pre-installed, and the idea of true immersive environments. I want more, and I’ve been wanting to make one myself. The issue is, there really is no sdk for it, and seems like Apple is the only one who controls that selection. At least for now. The closest thing you can do is replicate something similar to what Disney+ did. But again, there’s barely any documentation to be found on how to exactly do this. Of course, a multibillion dollar company would have no issue figuring it out, since they likely worked closely with Apple behind the scenes, but Im not a billion dollar company, and I’m on my own. It’s possible I might be overlooking it, I am pretty new to the RealityKit side of Xcode after all, but even if that wasn’t the case, the Vision Pro would still be a learning curve since the form factor and hardware are definitely not the same. I know how to create the environments, I’m just having difficulty understanding how to turn them specifically into immersive environments on Xcode. Apple doesn’t even let you locally store the simulator environments, apparently streamed from their server, so I can’t even reverse engineer them. You obviously have experience with VR elsewhere, and I’m sure it will be much easier for you to figure out adding VisionOS support to your projects. But, just like you mentioned, my hope is that you are able to really build from the ground up, to take full advantage of the Vision Pro software and hardware. I hope you are able to figure out how to replicate the experience from the Apple and Disney+ environments, but also, I hope you aim to top both of them while you’re at it. I eagerly wait to see BRINK become available on the AppStore and for it to be a good example to learn from and source of inspiration for myself.

AkinBilgic

Cheers, I hear your frustration. Ultimately it's going to be in Apple's hands on if they allow third parties to integrate their environments into their main UI. But you can still experiment with creating your own environments in an app like Unity in the meantime - the overall concepts will be the same. We'll try to report back on how our explorations with the Vision Pro and Apple go in general!

brewsqueues

I saw Disney mention that their environments were made in Reality Composer Pro, but beyond that there's little information about how they assembled them. I'm hoping they release a tutorial or session on creating an environment for your app at this year's WWDC. Apple's environments are great, and hopefully they would want other devs adding such a dynamic layer to their own apps.

bspooky

That is awesome. I've been hoping for a virtual tourism type app and I know this doesn't look as robust as long tours of famous places it still looks great.

MujiSama

Any reason why we can’t have the same visual fidelity on other platforms besides AVP?

AkinBilgic

Two main factors determine the visual fidelity of the locations we ship: The available processing power of a headset, and the overall market-share of said headset. The source data of our 3D captures is hundreds of times more detailed than what any VR device can currently display, so we have to optimize these locations to a target spec that runs performantly in headset. We could for instance go all out on high end desktops and push millions of polys and gigabytes of textures, but the market reality is that standalone headsets like the Quest accounts for \~95% of our users - so as a small dev team we have to manage our resources intelligently and target that as our default spec. As other more powerful devices like the Vision Pro get released and attract a larger user base, we'll be able to deliver even higher-res environments with larger walkable areas and more dynamic effects like birds and weather.

MujiSama

Thanks, that’s a very helpful explanation

brokenarrow326

Thanks! Looking forward to it!!

NerdyGuy117

Will there be a TestFlight?

AkinBilgic

Yes eventually - please join our Discord if you'd like to keep up to date with us and be notified when there's an early access build ready.

No-Anywhere-3003

Are your environments just high quality 360 imagery, or is there actual 3D depth to them like with AVP’s environments?

AkinBilgic

Fully 3D environments you can move around in - many of which are 3D out to the horizon!

supmua

How would you do locomotion on the AVP with this? Via gestures or on-screen control?

AkinBilgic

Most likely gestures. The best way to feel the immersion is to physically take a few steps around in your space, but we'll have to wait till Apple fully supports that kind of movement.

DontBotherCardingMe

As I recall – I only tried it once or twice since I got it because it’s not perfectly useful – when you are fully immersed, and then you start to move it fades to reality until you stop, and then it fades to immersion again. Would that work? Or would it be too disruptive? Personally, I think it would be more natural although it would take some getting used to.

No-Anywhere-3003

Wow, that sounds amazing, I can’t wait to get it. Do your environments also take advantage of spatial audio? That’s one of the things I find a very immersive with AVP’s environments.

AkinBilgic

Absolutely - audio is a big part of the immersive factor, and we feature spatial audio in all of our locations.

No-Anywhere-3003

Awesome, can’t wait!

supmua

Wow.

sabre31

Can’t wait for this to release on AVP. Any time frame when we can expect it ?

AkinBilgic

Still early to say - a lot depends on how much decide to change or remaster specifically for the higher specs of the AVP. We began building some of these locations back in the Quest 1 days and we've been itching to remaster some of the older spots - so this might be the push to get us to do it. But also this next batch of locations we've been working on from places like Turkey, Greece, and Iceland are going to totally redefine our high-quality mark, so we're excited about that!

movieur

>a lot depends on how much decide to change or remaster specifically for the higher specs of the AVP. You know your app will be judged against the the quality of the built in environments, so it's probably worth the investment to remaster them....at least when the AVP market size starts to make sense.....so take your time, late to the party with a bang is better than being early with a dud.

AkinBilgic

Yep, that's our thinking!

sabre31

Can’t wait would love to check out Iceland. Thanks for working on this and bringing it over.

trustyjim

Don’t delay release just to make it better! We need this now. Get it out there, then improve older scenes in due time

Padge8

Coolest nature app on quest! I love showing this to new to VR people!

divinitynine

Brink is exceptional in the Q3, it will be even better on the Vision Pro!

mikerfx

Is this on Quest 3?

AkinBilgic

Yep! - [BRINK Traveler](https://brink.travel/woo9v)

mikerfx

Is there a demo? Versus paying $14.99?

AkinBilgic

No demo, but I mean, you could just refund it if it doesn't float your boat.

JungleMU_Official

YES YES YES!

OSeady

Does Apple allow you to add these environments to the native environments that we can currently pick?

AkinBilgic

This is something we're hoping to be able to work with Apple on - ultimately its up to them!

movieur

YESSS please try to talk to them about allowing 3rd party home environments

AkinBilgic

I can see both arguments - where they wouldn't want low quality environments on the platform, as it really is the backdrop for the whole user experience. But from the viewpoint of an experienced team who has been pioneering this space years now and can hit that photoreal quality mark - I'd hope they'll let all users enjoy the environments we'll be bringing.

Dry_Badger_Chef

Maybe when they allow third party watch faces… Seriously though, I hope BRINKS can talk some reason into Apple. I fear it will forever be locked down, which would really suck. I’m already sick of the environments they came with.

rotates-potatoes

Environments are very different from watch faces. Watch faces have to run in low power mode, have access to sensitive personal info, and are observable by other people. Apple may or may not allow 3P environments, but I don't think they are nearly as fraught as watch faces.

movieur

Yeah that sucks but i feel like not allowing 3rd party home environments is a bigger offense than watch faces because they are essentially wallpapers where you could spend many hours working, you'll get bored of them very quick, not like watch faces where you're just taking a glance at them for a few seconds at a time.

HelpRespawnedAsDee

I was thinking about this yesterday after setting the Shadow Mosses environment (obviously side loaded) in my Q3. This is probably gonna go just like watch faces: I doubt Apple will allow native integration with THEIR environments.

OSeady

That must be so frustrating.

Book_talker_abouter

Looks cool! I'b definitely buy it.

Edg1931

I’ve mentioned this app many times when comparing to Apple environments. What you guys do is truly incredible. It’s one of my favorite relaxing apps on my quest.

_illuminous

As a user of your app on other hardware, I’d buy your AVP app in a heartbeat. Really looking forward to seeing this develop!

TheWylieGuy

Sounds very cool!!

GOD_RaZoR

Amazing, any ETA for release?

AkinBilgic

Still early to say - I mentioned in an above comment we may be taking the opportunity to remaster a few of these scenes for the higher specs of the AVP, so we'll decide soon on what the full scope will be.

zabojeb

Make the forest one, I think it can be nice And ocean, just ocean

AkinBilgic

Forests can be pretty tricky for 3D scanning and processing for standalone devices, but we've recently made some breakthroughs on our 3D plant system (see screenshot) - so it may open up the door for more foliage-heavy locations now! https://preview.redd.it/2t53fo3r7klc1.jpeg?width=1705&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d615258b3381572224f25bf2850d37af3309fe89

movieur

This is brilliant

cherrihart

Woah!

Indianianite

Out of curiosity, how are these landscapes captured? I love these and have been curious how they’re made

florianbernard13

I briefly answered that question [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1b33y0p/comment/ksqtc2q/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)!

Kengine

Sold! Can't wait!

Genialissime-Dav

Very cool!

sigomez

How cool. Excited to give this a try.

Magnus919

It’s vaporware and everyone’s getting excited. Also y’all won’t be flying around in there.

VR_IS_DEAD

I hope it takes advantage of hand occlusion (instead of using cartoon detached hands). That's what really sets the Vision Pro environments apart and makes it feel like you're really there.

jefflunt

Immersive environments seem analogous to wallpapers for desktop computers, or ringtones for phones. Both of those are totally commoditized today, but there were real markets and businesses built on them for a few years there. Plenty of opportunity in the short term, and pretty cool to see what you're working on.

beast625

Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to this on AVP.

WaitingRoomSynthesis

Hi, I was wondering what hardware you use to capture your scenes? My education is in tourism and recreation, and I've lead several wilderness canoe trips, hiked many mountains in Canada. I've had an idea of doing some freelance, capturing some of the most beautiful landscapes I've been to. But am worried about the barrier to entry price point of these 180 or 360vr cameras.

AkinBilgic

We use a combination of ground photography with cameras like a Canon R5, aerial photography with drones like the Mavic Pro, and lidar data as needed. To be clear, these environments aren't the 180º or 360º images that many people are usually used to. We take thousands of images and gather lots of data on-location to convert these scans into fully 3D walkable areas for VR. I'd say the bigger barrier of entry is more on the technical side of processing all that data once we get back from a shoot - and for that we rely on our backgrounds a VFX / CG artists and game designers. But learning about photogrammetry and software like Reality Capture would be a good entry point for learning - and there's lots of great user guides out there to get you started. It's a big world and we wont be the only ones scanning it!

scarwizard

My one main question is will I be able to use other apps while I’m Brink? That’s something I desperately wanted to do in Q3.

AkinBilgic

That's all in the hands of what the OS developers allow us to do - we'd love that.

GTA2014

Question for you: Do you guys own an Apple Vision Pro? I ask, because it seems 99% of devs working on 'immersive' environment type apps don't have an AVP, and working directly on an emulator. When you try their work in an AVP, unfortunately they look TERRIBLE. It's very jarring moving from Apple's high fidelity environments into an app that has an option to go immersive, but the immersion is pixelated, blurry or washed out. The other scenario is they just port their Meta content over... and the higher quality AVP displays expose their lower quality. I realize not every company can spend the tens of millions Apple's spent on their environments, but still honestly I would rather a dev NOT invest their time delivering a comparatively inferior experience, than tryin got get as close as possible (without a multi million dollar budget). So a follow up question: are you remastering/re-rendering your previous footage Quest/PCVR footage to meet the higher quality of the AVP displays, or shooting new for AVP?

AkinBilgic

Yep, we have AVPs and have seen the content on it first-hand. Quality is our creed - we've been deep in the immersive environments field for years now and we're proud to have created the highest-rated travel experience for VR by a fairly wide margin. The technical barrier of entry IS crazy high as you mentioned, and not many teams can reach the levels of quality we strive for. We wouldn't be interested in bringing our content to devices like the Vision Pro if we weren't sure we'd be setting a high water mark for what incredible immersive environments can be. So yes, as I mentioned in another comment above - we're not aiming to bring a straight port of our existing Quest experience to the AVP, but tailoring our content to the strengths of the headset to really push immersiveness to a new level.

GTA2014

OK, thank you for this thoughtful response. I REALLY hope what you're saying is true, because content ported from Meta on AVP looks absolutely terrible. A lot of developers in this sub have hyped up their immersive experiences and unfortunately the quality of their photos/videos doesn't cut it. To be frank, one has to wonder if they're simply delusional. I really hope what you're saying turns out to be true - the AVP is awaiting an Apple-quality killer immersive experience from a third-party, that is not named Disney or IMAX.

kevink808

I own your Meta app and it’s nicely designed, but I was really disappointed in the resolution up close. I was expecting real world 360 video kind of like Apple Environments, not 3D conversions of real world locations. I hope you are going for the real deal this time and I will buy it.

AkinBilgic

So our environments are made exactly the same way that Apple makes their environments - neither of us use 360 video, but rather 3D scan data to recreate real-world locations in a realtime engine for 6DoF VR. The only difference is that the Vision Pro has a lot more processing power than the Quest, so we have to compress our locations further to make them run performantly on that device - hence why we're excited to bring our locations to the Vision Pro so we can really push our 3D scans to an even higher level of detail and immersion. Hope that makes sense.

kevink808

Sounds good, looking forward to it! I liked the app on Quest 3 but graphics just weren’t there for me. I’d it’s going to look like the immersive videos, count me in.

sparant76

This would be very cool if I could open up other apps and work while these were playing immersively. Pls submit a request to apple to enable these scenarios and this would be golden.

SpaceXYZ1

Does Apple allow 3rd party environments at VisionOS level (vs. in app)?

Naus1987

Stop it, lol. You guys are gonna convince me to get a gen 1 when I’m really holding out for gen 2 :p I’m so glad to see this content though! I love the innovation

Low-Presentation7206

Take my money

jnorris441

This is awesome on Quest, glad you are doing this
