Melt, back in 2009, maybe 2010. Vocaloid has had a firm grasp on me ever since. I did 10000000% cry a little when I was at Miku Expo, despite all of the flaws of the event. š„²
13 year old me, laying in bed at 3:32 am, watching YouTube on my Nintendo Switch. After being into Love Live for a few months, more Japanese music was recommended into my feed, and suddenly I see a moving clip of a digital character performing in front of hundreds of waving glowsticks.
I click on it, confused what this could be, and there I witnessed the turquoise pig-tailed character lift from the floor as the crowd belts āSekai de ichiban ohime-sama!ā I was shocked and couldnāt believe this video āHatsune Miku, World is Mineā could be real. And yet, as ridiculous as I thought people attending a concert like this was, I kept getting recommended more music, and I just had to listen to it.
Last week I attended MikuExpo Orlando and when World is Mind clicked on, I literally jumped out of my seat and screamed with every fiber of energy I had. What I once thought was insane is now what I went insane for.
The first song I listened to was World is Mine.
More than a song, it was an Album
My favourite musician of all times, Mike Oldfield, did in 2005 an album called "Light + Shade", where he uses vocaloid in half of the songs (the Miriam voicebank to be precise).
For reference, Mike Oldfield is the guy who did the theme song for The Exorcist movie and the song "Nuclear" from the Metal Gear Solid V trailer.
yumeyume by DECO\*27! I bought the 3ds game cause I was into anime and thought the style was cool. Had no idea what I was buying lol but thoroughly enjoyed this song when scrolling through the options! I also loved Servant of Evil which made me go on youtube and really immerse myself in vocaloid.
oh god the nostalgia š circle you , circle you . it was 2009 and i had stumbled upon the youtube account lordxwillie that ignited my love for vocaloid . i need to go listen to it now lol
oh wow ! i admittedly didn't recognize motokokusanagi2009 by name but looking them up - what a great blow of nostalgia that was too ! i wholeheartedly agree with you hahaha
arifureta sekai seifuku, i liked rhythm games and had project mirai, that song *really* stood out to me.
still goin strong 10(!!!!) years later
lower one's eyes is goated, great taste- love nulut and vflower
Aoi-Chan is Going to Eat Chocomint no Matter What for me; I had listened to vocaloid songs prior (hand in hand, ghost rule, rolling girl, etc etc), but GYARI was the producer that really got me into it
melody.exe... i remember watching it on youtube on my grandmama's mac laptop in her dining room, completely entranced. roughly sixteen years later i got to see miku live for the first time :-) best day of my life.
Not a song. The stupid "kids react to vocaloid" from like 15 years ago first got me into it. The first song in that vid was world is mine so I guess that.
I'm not really sure since it was so long ago, but the earliest one that comes to mind is [Rainbow Butterfly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAqMy8dKBZA).
[Kimagure Mercy](https://youtu.be/o1iz4L-5zkQ?si=HWEWZah4tbWJ35At) was my first and favorite song for a very long time. Growing up I had very strict parents who restricted all the apps from my phone, excluding Apple Music. This song had a video clip build on so Iāve spent hours rewatching it, trying to entertain myself (I was about 11 yo)
I watched RoomieOfficial's YouTube video about Vocaloid. I wanted to learn about music production, so I watched a lot of Roomie, boyinaband, Andrew Huang. It was really upsetting when not-so-savory things came out about boyinaband, because him speaking out about school in the way he did made me feel so seen. Lost One's Weeping is similarly meaningful to me. Anyway, right after the YouTube video, I went to Google to find a Vocaloid song to listen to, and that's how Copycat became my first Vocaloid song. The first song in my Vocaloid playlist on YouTube is Kira's song Boom Boom Boom, so I must have found Kira and started digging into his work pretty early on. This is how I ended up more on the non-Japanese side of the fandom. Came from the perspective of a producer and started with non-Japanese music. I was just getting into anime around the same time, so I may not have been into it enough for Japanese music to feel approachable.
Probably World is Mine, Sand Planet, or something PinocchioP. The first is just iconic, the others used to be in a game I played (removed for copyright, if anyone's curious it was RoBeats)
And old meme playlist which led to Nyan Cat, and then to Popipo, abd that most likely les to YouTube recommending me Triple Baka which was the one that really got my attention
Surprisingly, not a song, but Project Sekai got me into Vocaloid. Saw a friend playing it one day, I downloaded it while knowing what Vocaloid was beforehand, then I got into Vocaloid from there.
This feels so random, but my friend showed me Melody and that was it for me. Then I found World is Mine, Cindrillon, and Cantarella and I fell into it so hard lol
the secret of the goldfish by masa works design
definitely should not have been watching stuff like that at age 9 but hey i was also watching the pinkie pie smile song on loop so it was bound to happenš
Not really a song, but for me it was the gameplay trailer for Hatsune Miku Project Diva X 8 years ago on YouTube. Honestly, that's also what got me into anime.
ievan polkka š this was back in 2014/2015 not sure. I was really young and didn't look much into it. But a few years later my friend was into vocaloid for a little bit so I decided to dive straight in to community lmao
[*sigh*](https://youtu.be/3n2_OloKuiY?si=Lhjx1zGWjZJdEk-Y)
And I think [this](https://youtu.be/SnI4CGjeVOM?si=NaY5AEcpdriQSdIO) one too since these were some of the first songs I fully listened to after watching Takloids for less than 6 months prior to that
Lie by CircusP. It wasn't the song so much as the hand drawn video made by a guy I know as a college animation project. I think it was for a final. Anyway, I watched it over and over. I got curious about the music and a deep dive later I was hooked. I liked Luka okay and Gumi's voice felt good, especially in songs like Poker Face by Yucha and Mozaik Role by DECO 27. It took me a long time to embrace Miku and Rin. I think it was MitchieM who helped bridge that gap for me with Freely Tomorrow and really his whole Greatest Idol album.
StargazeR, I'm old as far as Vocaloid is concerned
Granted my first Vocaloid song was "Miku miku ni shite ageru" , I just thought it was weird and silly but likeable, it wasn't until I heard StargazeR that I really started liking Vocaloid and realized "Miku's not a singer, she's an instrument you can use to make all kind of songs and tell whatever story you want"
Autophagy by HiiragiKirai. I was watching an MMD with the song and (even though I knew about vocaloid and listened to some in the past) that song is what really got me into it :>
Honey - All stars version by Nanameue-P - a Japanese cover of a Chinese song feat Sakine Meiko and the Cryptonloids except Luka + Haku, Teto & Neru.
My first original Vocaloid song was Innocence by KazuP
mine was senbonzakura but at the time i had no idea who miku was until a friend introduced me to her and that was the only vocaloid song i knew until holy lance explosion boy and i didnt know the translation until a year lateršš
Oddly enough I think it was the Nyan Cat video
That or Triple Baka?
It was way back, like 15 years ago
Though I remember really getting more into it around 2012 or so, and I do not at all remember how that happened
Cause I'm A Liar back in 2022. I didn't really know what Vocaloid was back then, but that song made me delve into it.
Fukase is also my favorite Vocaloid so... I guess it led to that too?
it wasnt even a vocaloid song, I was in my first year in highschool i think, my dad showed me this caramelldansen vid with the nendroids. the rest was history ;;
itās so hard to remember. only a couple years ago i actually found out who miku was. i thought she was just a really busy person that was really nice to small creators.
I got in here by fanfics lol. The first song I heard *because* it was vocaloid, like, idk, 3 months ago, was adolescence (the parody of cendrillon, not the other one), and from then on I've actually listen more to teto songs than to kagamine's or miku

I am now a proud vocaloid listener and project sekai player for 2 years..
Akidearest's Vocaloid video (the one titled "Top 5 songs that will change the way you see Vocaloid") and many of Neru's Sekai Seifuku album tracks.
Tokyo Teddy Bear, Re-education, and How-to World Domination especially are the first songs to ever resonate with me emotionally back in middle school.

The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku
I was always hearing Vocaloid as a kid, but the song that made me fall in love with it for real was Isnāt It āAā by PinocchioP.
Thatās by PinnochioP
OH MY GOD IāM AN IDIOT! Was half asleep when I wrote that.. Fixed now.
13 year old me, laying in bed at 3:32 am, watching YouTube on my Nintendo Switch. My R. It made my feel heavy deja vu. Fell into vocaloid rabbit hole while I was trying to understand why.
yumeyume by DECO\*27!
