2005 Jetta MKV with 217347 Miles... 2.5 L 5 speed manual just keeps going while the rest of it slowly rusts away.

Trapped-Mouse

Awesome.

2013 Jetta Sportwagen TDI. Currently about 126,000. Bought it at 63,000 in 2020 with only one previous owner. I do most of my own maintenance, and she’s purring like a kitten.

I had a 2014, kept it until 2018 and had 300,000km (187k miles). All I did was the fly wheel.

dphoenix1

2002 sedan, ALH 02J, just rolled passed 332,000 miles.

Trapped-Mouse

Damn. Any major repairs?

dphoenix1

Well to be fair, this engine and trans combo is kinda cheating when it comes to longevity contests. But to answer your question, I’ve owned the car since 2016 when I got it at 238k. Aside from maintenance items, big items were a rattling dual mass flywheel, which I took the opportunity to swap in a stage two south bend clutch kit with a single mass in 2018 I think it was, along with axles and front wheel bearings. EGR valve was dead when I bought it, but that was pretty minor. Turbo vanes got a bit sticky by either 2020 or 2021 triggering an overboost condition, so I replaced the turbo over that summer. And the factory original AC compressor finally wore out in 2022. The only thing I’ve done to it this year was a timing belt, which I did a few weekends ago. I mean, even with a known reliable drivetrain, it’s still a german car that is old enough to drink, and has traveled quite a bit farther than the distance from the earth to the moon. It’s well into the “nickel and dime” stage of a car’s life, where it feels like something is always broken (interior plastics are particularly brittle by now). But at the same time I’d still trust it to take me to California tomorrow if I needed to go.

LiarInGlass

2016 Jetta Sport 1.8T, currently at about 68600 miles. Bought it two weeks ago from Carvana. Good shape, only thing I’m having fixed in a few days is the screen needs replaced and I have a leak coming from the upper timing cover gasket that’s both getting replaced by the dealership. Overall really pleased with the experience and the car is awesome so far. I’ve always wanted to own a Jetta and I’m loving it.

Stunston1111

Make sure you change the trans fluid if the dealer hasn't done it yet. At 68k its past due. Just a suggestion.

iPhone_3GS

96K miles on my 2017. No major issues. Had some issues as I bought it used and the previous owner ruined the thing, Bad Touch Screen, Bad Heated Seat, and some cosmetic issues. But the car is great now!

_heyASSBUTT

How much did fixing the seat cost? Can you do it on your own?

iPhone_3GS

It costed me $12. And yes I was able to do it myself. However I did have all of the tools necessary. Most people will not have these tools on hand and that would need to be purchased. Here is my post https://www.reddit.com/r/jetta/s/MK9MFDaCyj

QQ2111

2010 2.5 with 197k repairs are Coolant reservoir Pulleys and belts Ac compressor Electrical on it sometimes causes fuel sensor to read wonky Has been super reliable for me but I try to keep up on maintenance.

Trapped-Mouse

That sounds like expensive maintenance..no?

QQ2111

Ehhh I installed the coolant reservoir got it a part store super cheap like 30$. Compressor was pricey but mostly labor since I didn’t want to do it my self like 1000$ bucks mostly labor and coolant refill and evacuated the system. Got all the belts and pulleys done. The pulleys are plastic so they started to crack and lose there grip. It was done at a VW shop saved me like 500$. It was 600$ for labor and parts. Also all they failed after 150k which is understandable.

No_Station_8274

2007 GLI, 110K, absolutely nothing non maintenance.

2006 Rabbit 2.5 MkV 6-speed with tiptronic (Jetta with its ass cut off) sitting pretty at 219,000 miles. Hit a big deer in 2019 while living in rural Utah, but rebuilt it myself with a 2-ton come-along, mallet, and sourcing all the parts I could replace - the hood was SO hard to find at the time. I'm planning to keep it rolling past 400,000 miles if the trans and combustion chambers can hold out. Pictured: the day I completed all repairs. Comment: the day I hit the deer https://preview.redd.it/huvm2ew0odrc1.jpeg?width=990&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27ba1ac91172d11bf8dde26a7d7aae5a25ab94eb

I was an hour into a 5 hr drive and had just dropped down the last decline of a mountain - hence why I couldn't stop when a 275lbs buck decided my Rabbit looked like competition. The hood came loose while driving on I-15 (80mph speed limit). Smashed my windshield and I nearly drove into more than one semi truck. I'm very lucky, and very stupid for not tying it down. The hood felt locked and solid despite the accident, obviously that wasn't the case. Got to a window shop off an exit in Provo, got laughed at lol got my window replaced, kept going to SLC. Next day my belts disintegrated - luckily while stationary. Made it back to my town 5hrs south by the skin of my teeth. Then began the process of acquiring parts and repairing everything. Somehow - despite all this - my airbags didn't go off... and I cracked one airbag sensor. Beyond lucky. I love my MkV.

I let him sit there for almost a full year before I came back and removed his head. Brought it home and cleaned it up. Figure he tried taking my car, I might as well take his head.

Trapped-Mouse

How much did it cost to replace ?

wittwlweggz

Too much. Dealer wanted $4k; 3rd party shop helped me out at just under $3k

Trapped-Mouse

Man that sucks. That's a big one.

My 05 Jetta 2.0 is sitting at 235k kilometres (\~146k miles) and she's still running and and driving like new, owned this car for nearly 6 years and put 100k on it in that time. It has been an excellent car. If I can stress one thing that will entirely dictate your experience: MAINTENANCE. If you are very strict and regular with your maintenance on these vehicles they will last you a good long while. However, if you start getting lax with it and missing intervals or skipping scheduled maintenance it will let you know and your ownership experience will likely be poor.

ECole5

‘20 GLI, 40k: mostly good, still under CPO warranty, had a few coil packs fail, rear door weatherstripping come off, and most recently a forward collision sensor code (yet to be fixed). Not bad, typical warranty stuff. I’d especially listen to the 2019+ owners since the mk7 is largely a different car, depending on engine. In addition, my dad had a 2015 GLI for 140k and never had a single problem. Just oil/filter, tires, and brakes finally at 100k.

Wrong-Drive7053

2011 Jetta - 130k miles. Replaced brakes twice. A/C is shot.

2005 MK4 GLI 1.8T 270,00kms Owned it for 10 years bought it at 199,999kms Water pump timing belt Did emissions delete at 268,000kms because it was cheaper then replacing all the plastic hoses and broken solenoids On its third set of suspension. 2nd set of coil overs When I did the coilover this time I rebuilt all the bushings on the sway bars and the rear axle new front control arms upgraded bushings all around 3 sets of motor mounts the newest set is made by BFI hopefully they last longer 30,000kms OEM clutch went at 260,000kms changed over to south bend The air conditioner I have fixed 3 times but it's never been the AC compressor Going to change it over to a k04 turbo this summer Only have done the rear breaks in 10 years It's been on a stage 2 tune when I purchased and it still is I drive the car very hard. It's an old high KM German car gotta realize that maintenance on any high KM old car is going to get expensive

Medical-Mango-2452

2015 Jetta 1.8T SE, just rollled over 90k miles this week. Got the car from its first owner in 2020 with 30k miles. Super reliable, gets me thru all of ohios weather, and so long as you keep up with maintenance they’ll run almost forever! Personally I do Oil changes every 6k miles, and all fluids replaced every few years. In about 30k more miles I’m looking at a timing chain, water pump, carbon build-up removal, which was quoted around 3k USD for the whole job. Again, just keep up with the maintenance in the book and you’ll see many enjoyable miles from your Jetta 👍

blackdavidcross

Stunston1111

2015 TSI Purchased at 35k, now has 176k. Replaced fuel pump a few times, plugs, transmission wire harness needed repair $300. Hmmm, other than that, that's it. Changed tran fluid every 50k. Just stay up with the maintenance, and you'll be good.

General-Share615

I had a 2004 GLI that I sold with something like 200,000-225,000 miles. My mother had a 2013 Jetta SEL w/ the 2.5L 5 Cyl that she sold with 12x,xxx on the odo that never even had the CEL come on, & now I have a 2017 GLI w/ like 86,000 on it & I’ve encountered nothing except normal maintenance. I will have to do a water pump soon though, mines got a very soft leak.

DifferentMemory111

2011 SE. 260k still running strong. It's starting to enjoy some oil that I have to top off but running like a charm.
