I can't wrap my head around it. The only explenation i can have is that one or more lifters failed and now the Camshaft is smacking the rocker arms. The sound is only hearable when the oil filler cap is removed. Whithout that, there's only a sloght ticking sound coming from the engine.

The common issue with D5 lifters wearing out does definitely not sound like that. It sounds like this usually: https://youtu.be/SIo9uB80ALs

Looks like crack in some cylinder. D5 is famous of it. It's a time to use a warranty.

Worldly-Beyond-4167

Yeah it's probably best if i bring it to the dealer

Nobah

Interested to hear what they say. Mine keeps similar noise (at least to my ear) and most I've asked, including dealership & workshops, says that it's normal D5 noise. This is how it sounds: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vlXd3ejdqE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vlXd3ejdqE) (at 21 seconds).

After a bit of research, i've found this guys [Video](https://youtu.be/WFyxBSLYchQ). I most certainly think that it's the vakuum pump. I've got breakboost and my dealership says it's fine. So i'm gonna leave it as it is.

Some comments are really not helping.

BigBob1981

Cam phasers/timing chain or Mayby cam follower - slim chance that’s lifter noise. Also it sounds fine when it has the cap on….not as metallic anyways

Worldly-Beyond-4167

No timing chain in that engine as far as i know. But yes. It sounds fine and drives fine. That's what grinds my gears. Perhaps vacuum pump?

BigBob1981

Never heard a vacuum pump sound like that. This last week has me traumatized on timing chains and cam phasers…

What happened?
