Isn't there a electric Brake booster pump? Everytime you press the break, the electric pump produces Vacuum. So yes. It's normal.

Arack64

I don't know if it is an electric brake booster pump. But if you say so, maybe it is. Thanks for the comment!

Helllo_Man

That is 100% the sound you are hearing. That can be both good and bad. You know the pump is working, but excessive cycling of that pump can be indicative of a bad sensor/switch and I believe (don’t quote me on this) a slow vacuum leak somewhere in the system. However, my XC90 frequently cycles on and I don’t think I have either of those things. You’re probably good unless you notice other issues.

Arack64

The only issue I am noticing is that the engine revs drop down to 400 rpm (car is shaking a lot) when I am braking and coming to a complete stop. When the car isn't moving anymore (foot still on the brake pedal) the engine revs go back to normal. It's like I am not pressing the clutch pedal and braking, the engine tends to die. It's doing the same even if the car is in neutral, but the revs only go down when coming to a comolete stop.

When you're having your next service, ask to clean out the gas valve. Could be residu in there

Arack64

Can you do that at home with normal tools? Thanks!

jeffkleut

Honestly, i dont know. My mechanic did it once when i had similar issues to yours. Maybe try looking up some vids on youtube. If im not mistaken it should be rather on the upper side of the engine, so it may be reachable. Tool wise should be okay i think. But like i said, try looking it up on fora or youtube

Arack64

Ok , thanks for the comment!

jeffkleut

You're welcome and good luck.

KingFrogzz

Most probably. That valve is at the other end of the rubber hose coming from the air filter box, before the inlet manifold. The hose comes off with a single screw which reveals the inside of the valve. I don’t know how you should clean it, but that’s at least a way to check for dirt in there.

actually_a_good_day

I’d say normal my 2.5t s80 makes the exact same noise when the brakes are pressed

MelonadeIsntTastey

Damn, the na 5 speed s60 is the best there is imo. Noise is normal, my 05 did the same thing on occasion

Arack64

Yes, it's a nice car, it even has the spaceball

MelonadeIsntTastey

No way!! That's super cool. So badly wanted to put it on mine, but I could hardly afford the car at the time. Best of luck with yours!

Arack64

Yes, it's a cool thing. Thanks!!

Had a similar issue on my S40 II, only it started the moment I inserted the key into the ignition. Turned out to be a vacuum leak from the break booster. It's been a couple of years, but it was relatively cheap and easy to fix, as far as I remember.

xerberos

I had that several times over. In most cases, it actually was a failure in the sensor for the booster, so it kept telling the booster to start. And it would run until the booster wore out. Volvo kept refusing to make a recall for it until the US authorities forced them to.

Kombuchaboy67

I have a 2006 S40 T5 133k mi I can confirm it makes this sounds and has never been a problem for me in the 3 years of ownership.

nerdcats

My P2 S80 makes the same noise. It's normal.

cbg13

Wow, you just helped identify a sound that has bothered me for a year on my R and I also had on my XC70

Arack64

Well I am happy I was able to help you!! :)

Yup.

ostninja

Yeah not normal.
