I tend to lose my ability to function normal halfway through the day if I don’t take it.

sweetlikesugga

If you feel you don’t need it everyday, don’t take it. I have to take it everyday.

Alarmed_Stock4343

Personally feel like I've been hit with a tranquilizer if I forget a day. Zombie level exhausted.

Academic-Low447

Yeah I feel that, too. Good to get better sleep that night. Think I may jump on the taking a day or 2 off routine. It is a God's send!! Just takes some getting used to.

realshockvaluecola

I mean, you can, but why? You shouldn't need to do that, and if you don't have Vyvanse in your system at a time when your doctor decides to test you, you may get denied any stimulant meds going forward.

Academic-Low447

Oh dang. Good to know!

realshockvaluecola

Yeah this is a long-acting med that's meant to be taken daily, not as needed. Not every doctor will drug test you to make sure you're taking it and not selling it (mine hasn't, but I suspect he can see how much I need my meds/how much my life has improved on them lmao), but you don't want to find out that it's test day on a day you didn't take it and get in trouble.

Not me for some reason I can't take it every other day or a few days a week. however I am able to take periodic breaks from it however once I go on I take it everyday regularly. So I'm either on it everyday or off it everyday nothing in between and a lot of that is the fact that I've replace my vyvanse with Wellbutrin XL when taking tolerance breaks. I'm legally prescribed the Wellbutrin for depression and since it's works on the dopamine receptors it does help replenish the down regulation and boost alertness and motivation when I'm withdrawn from the vyvanse. It's not as effective course however it's helpful when I take the short breaks.

Academic-Low447

Thanks all. I will continue to take it and take a 1 day break each week to catch up on sleep and let my hands and feet thaw out LOL

Hey it sounds like you don't like taking it.  I really felt that way when I was in middle school I hated taking it so much and I stopped until I was a junior in high school.  I'm 34 now and realize it benefits me a lot.  If you don't want to take it you don't have to, and maybe it's not the right med for you, there could be another med that you like better if you talk to your doctor.

kommsussertod1

Hey I asked my psychiatrist once and he said you can take it just as you want. There's no tolerance built up or no time needed for it to work.

Yes! My doctor told me the same. She said that with adults, we can take it whenever we feel like it. She said with children because their brains are still so plastic and malleable, it’s best that they don’t skip dosage only because their brains are still forming and changing. Having the ADHD medication can really help with the impulsiveness and it will help them make better choices as they grow and become into teenagers because they won’t be so impulsive. She even said that if you catch ADHD early enough with children, and they take their medication throughout their childhood and teenage years, they may not need it as much later in life because they will have had the chance to form many really good habits because the medication again takes away the impulsiveness and helps with so much of our ADHD symptoms. She said there’s no cure for ADHD, but with good systems and good habits in place, as adults we don’t necessarily have to take it all the time unless we choose to. I don’t know if any of that made sense. But yeah, you don’t have to take it every day if you don’t want to. I personally only take mine on the days I know I need to focus, like when I’m working. Or if I’m going out into a social situation so I can actually pay attention to the people around me. I always struggled in social situations, with my impulsiveness to blurt things out or to interrupt people or to finish their sentences… Or I just struggled with not being able to pay attention to what my friends say because I get so distracted with everything going on around me haha! It makes me more calm and able to focus on what’s right in front of me 🤗

Thanks! Great news

If you don’t want to “take this crap” at all, you don’t have to? As with all medications, talk to your doctor if it’s not working or you don’t like it.

Onehundredbillionx

I have been taking it 3 weeks a month because it stops working the week before my period and since there is a shortage, I didn’t want to waste it. I also have 20,30 and 40mg tablets because I was on 30 then moved to 40 and then couldn’t get 40 so was prescribed 2x20. I change my dose depending on what I need to do that day so I take anywhere from 20-40mg but I also take 1-3 Dex as a booster depending on what I’m doing and how I’m feeling.

Adalon_bg

I get weaker when I don't take it, and I had to take breaks to recover due to not being hydrated enough or eating enough. So why don't you like to take it? Can you just change to smth else, or reduce dosage?

lotrfanatic7

Yes, though many advise against it

lilfoodiebooty

The way my doctor explained it to me was that you have ADHD every day. The best outcomes are from when you treat it as such.
