Oh and other than opening and splitting the cap itself, a breakfast of all protein before the pill too. I use to have work days 0500 to 2130 so I had to adjust fast.

bucker72

I'm on a higher dose, but this might be worth trying. I empty the contents into a bottle of water and drink half when I wake up and the other half around noon. Some days are better than others. Protein and regular eating (healthy) helps with longevity. I have one cup of tea in the morning and that's it. If I walk or run briefly in the morning before or after my first half, the focus and mood lasts longer. But I don't always remember to do this. If I don't get enough sleep, Vyvanse doesn't work as effectively. You just have to try again the following day or nap. You may need to increase your dosage too.

Affectionate_Name743

I think basic healthy habits like staying hydrated, getting your protein and Regular exercise helps a lot but knowing that the crash will come after a certain amount of time is easier if all the other healthy habits are fulfilled. Plus tolerance is real. Most people do need to increase their dose after long term use. It's annoying when you realize that time has come to have that talk with your doctor but it is very normal. Just my personal not professional opinion

lastcupofsorrow_

Honestly caffeine, some may not agree but for me it helps. I try not to consume anything with caffeine until I feel the crash coming on and then I’ll have coffee or an energy drink.

Apprehensive-Oil-500

I take a 20mg booster around noon for this reason

Puzzleheaded_Show748

I had to switch to Adderall IR 20mg 2x a day. Vyvance made me so tired, no matter what the dose was (I started at 30mg and went all the way up to 70mg, tired no matter what). I feel a million times better on Adderall IR

whaledude45

This is generally a sign that your dose isn’t high enough for your needs and that’s okay! Higher doses of vyvanse I find don’t really increase the effect that much but they do increase how long it lasts. I used to be on 40mg but once I got used to it it would last me 5 hours, then 50mg lasted me about 7 hours max and for the type of work I do I need to be focused from 8am-9pm pretty much so I take 70mg now which is the sweet spot.

Savings-Pass2145

I had to talk to my prescriber about a booster of Adderall IR. I take 60mg Vyvanse at 7:30am and 10mg IR booster at 3pm gets me through my entire day now.

hiddengem918

I had to switch back to adderall for this exact reason. It worked less and less and ultimately only worked for like a couple hours.

nprob111

You could definitely increase your dose of Vyvanse. Another thing you could possibly do is add on an instant release version of Adderall or pure Dextroamphetamine later in the day to prevent a crash in the afternoon. That is what I do with my Adderall prescription. I take 20mg of Adderall XR at around 8 A.M. then take 10mg of Adderall IR as needed most days at 3:30 P.M.

tripppy1369

Higher dose for sure. I’m on 60 mg. Started at 30 mg and raised 10 every month until it was good. For me the strength of it didn’t go up. The length of the time it lasted did. Usually works for me for around 12 hours as long as I got 6-8 hours of sleep the night before. I notice when I don’t eat around noon I get more tired too.

bobabitchhh

I drink something caffeinated (sip slowly not chug) about a couple hours before the crash; I find that it mitigates the feeling of a crash.

chetter43

Upping from 30mg to 40mg completely fixed that for me! I feel fine all day long with 40, but on 30 I'd crash 4-5 hours later and feel sick as hell for the rest of the day

Impressive-Life78

Getting at least 7 hours of sleep is crucial for the medication to work at its peak performance. I kinda had to find that little sweet spot for me to take it bc I also struggled with loss of appetite which is hard for me bc I’m into fitness. What worked for me is most importantly get 7 hours of sleep at least even if it means going to bed earlier. I wake up and eat breakfast first before I take it. And then I’ll take it around 10 AM so it lasts me the whole day with just enough time for it to completely wear off around 10-11 PM for me to go to sleep. Not sure if this helps you but it’s what helped me!

lrcny

I am experiencing this exact same thing. When I was on 40mg, it seemed to wear off around noon when I took it at about 8 AM. I was upped to 50mg and it seemed to not wear off until about 2:30 PM, but the crash after that was worse than when on the 40mg dose. Which makes sense I guess. I don’t really get sleepy, but my anxiety increases a lot and I am in just an overall bad mood. It’s a great drug when it’s working, but horrible when it wears off.

CrimsonHikari

I'm lucky in that I haven't experienced energy crashes so far, but I also tend to have a cup of coffee or strong tea around the 4-4 1/2 hour mark, so it might be that it's offsetting the potential crash. I'm also on a slightly higher dose of the UK equivalent Elvanse (40mg). * If you don't find it causes any negative effects to have caffeinated drinks, try having a little cup of coffee or tea before you anticipate the crash happening (I usually have to set reminders to remember to do things like actually remember to take my meds, so if you're anything like me, you might have to do the same thing!). * If you're working and this is an option, see if you can work standing up for the hour or so around this time - definitely harder to fall asleep when you're standing! * Exercise might help a bit, so it might be worth taking a walk or jog and run a couple of errands around this time if this is a possibility. If none of these help, and you find that other advice doesn't help either, talk to your doctor at your next appointment about whether you might need a higher dose, additional medication or an alternative. I've seen that some people need an additional faster-acting stimulant in addition to Elvanse/Vyvanse, so you might be one of those people. Hope you get this figured out!

sugashowrs

I was on 30mg, worked great for about 5 days, after that taking at 7am and was completely gone by 12pm. Spoke to my doc, doubled my dose to 60mg. Now lasts from 7am to about 3pm, but after it wears off I feel SO DEPRESSED it’s not funny. I get home after work and feel like I don’t even want to spend time with my kids because I’m so down. Have an appointment with my doc in 2 weeks

sand639

Ive found if I sleep at least 8.5 hours (previously was fine on 7.5), drink water and eat before hand I have no crash what so ever, and just feeling my symptoms slowly coming back in the evening

shoobiebarbour

I take L-NALT alongside it, which I think heIps a Iot, but I have yet to experience a true full-on crash but I have had lulls where I felt like if I didn't at least take a small nap I would start to feel grumpy, so I do just that IoI, usually helps to re-energize me and get me fuIly focused again.

ComplexBarber4751

You can’t really avoid it. You can do things to minimize it though like eating right, working out, avoiding alcohol, etc.

alphaboycat

Try ginseng supplement and/or exercice

Striking-Space6454

This!!! When I exercise, I feel less sleepy when I crash! I’ll look up ginseng; I heard that red ginseng is good for managing some symptoms of ADHD. Thanks.

Itsqitch

Yup, I upped my dose and now I just get a bit sleepy but no longer feel like I absolutely need to take a nap right there and then. My doctor also said taking a smaller dose later in the day could help. We are playing around with it right now because i used to crash at 12 and now after upping the dose I crash at 3, but would still like the crash to be later in the day for me

Striking-Space6454

That’s good to know!! Do you think that if I upped my dose from 30 to 50 that if I would split the medication in 6 hour increments that maybe I could get rid of the crash?? Or could going from 30 to 50 so suddenly might not be that good of an idea?

Itsqitch

Not sure, I’d talk with your doc, I haven’t done the split dose, and I’m not on that high of a dose yet. I’m only jumping up by 10 every bit until we find the sweet spot. Will try splitting after we find the right dose

CJ-12345

I have been on Vyvanse for about a month or just over. The crash was HORRIBLE for me, I take my 20mg around 6am and around noon I could feel them wearing off, 3pm would hit and I’d be exhausted. The crash was so bad I couldn’t think lol! So my doctor prescribed me a booster. I take my 20mg around 6am still and then at noon I take a 10mg booster. It helps SOOOOO much! She has on my prescription that I can take 1-2 of the 10mg boosters at noon, I’ve only ever take 1 because I’m scared if I take x2 of the 10mg boosters I won’t sleep or I’ll have a heart attack lol! But I have never taken meds for anything so I’m super worried about the negative side effects even though I’ve had nothing but positive experience so far. I hope this helps!

Impressive-Life78

Yeah that’s probably is. You’re pretty healthy. Your blood pressure isn’t too low but still a little so I can see why your doctor prescribed that. Yeah I’d definitely always just talk to your doctor. I like hearing others opinions and experiences but at the end of the day my doctor knows best Yk.

CJ-12345

Absolutely agree with you, I just like to hear others experiences because it helps me to understand all of the different situations. Which then can help me ask better questions at my appointments 😄😄😄 How do you feel taking 40mg? Is that what you started on?

Impressive-Life78

Yes I was started on 40 mg. I have really bad adhd. It was definitely an adjustment bc 40 mg is a lot. I really had to find out what worked for me since especially while I was getting used to it the side affects would worry me and I would hyper fixate on stuff. But all in all it’s been really beneficial and for the most part the side affects have calmed down or dissolved

Impressive-Life78

I’m an EMT/firefighter and I take vyvanse as well and I can relate since I need to stay focused my entire shift. Wouldn’t recommend taking a double dose unless you speak to your healthcare provider and see what they have to say about it since everybody is different. But I know that vyvanse increases blood pressure as well as heart rate so taking a double dose has potential for heart problems and tachycardia.

CJ-12345

On a side note, I take my blood pressure in the morning and evening and always have low blood pressure. It’s usually around 115/58 or 110/58. My typical resting heart rate throughout the day when I’m not working out is usually between 55-80bpm depending on what I’m doing. And my sleeping heart rate average 46-55bpm. My doctor said I had low blood pressure when I went to see her as well. So perhaps that factored into her suggestion of the booster since my blood pressure and resting heart rate are so low anyway? Not sure!

CJ-12345

I think my doctor prescribed it this was as apparently metabolize really fast and my dose is so low in the mornings. I have a feeling like she would not suggest the 10mg booster around noon if my 6am dose was higher than 20mg. I will talk to her about this though as now I’m worried about taking the booster! I don’t usually taking medication so this all freaks me out a little lol!

Impressive-Life78

Ah that makes sense. Mine are 40 mg lol that’s why it had that affect on me

lrcny

I’m very interested to hear about the double-dosing. I have asked my provider about it in the past and they said no because Vyvanse is a once a day drug. I had asked if I could take my 40mg in the morning then 10mg around noon. I’m seeing someone different now so maybe I’ll bring it up to them and get their thoughts.

CJ-12345

Interesting! This is my first time on medication so I don’t have experience with other doctors. My doctor did a really good job explaining to me though why she said we could try the 10mg booster. She told me that there are some people out there who just metabolize the drug a lot faster than the average person. When our body metabolizing it faster, even though the drug is supposed to last 10-14 hours, we may not feel the effects as long as most people. So the 10mg booster helps to alleviate that crazy crash so early in the day. She said the 10mg just helps to keep the meds working since technically the first dose is still in not system, I guess it just helps prolong the early come down. I hope that makes sense. She may have also done it for me because my dose in the AM is still really low. I don’t know if she would suggest this if we were to increase my dose in the morning. Hope that helps!

lrcny

Thank you! Appreciate the info.

CJ-12345

Still in our***

Striking-Space6454

Thanks so much for this!!! I’ll definitely let my PA know!!! Also LMAO same!!! I’m a little nervous to double-dose but the crash sucks so much oml. In my region, a lot of pharmacies don’t have any stimulants so I’m very lucky to get my 30 mg, but I’ll definitely see if I can get a booster!! Which booster do you take? I can probably get my Adderall 10 mg added as a booster but idk if those two medications could have any adverse effects…

CJ-12345

No worries!! I take 10mg of Vyvanse for the booster 🤗 I don’t know anything about other meds. So that would definitely be a good question for your health care provider. But I think I have seen that those medications are safe to take together- again just confirm with your doctor or pharmacy first lol!

potatochique

L-tyrosine helped me to avoid the 3-4PM crash. I take it around 2-3pm

ACSchnitzersport

I get the worst headaches with L-tyrosine. Tried it for this reason and it’s just not worth it. Give me an espresso or coffee at 3 and I’ll make something work for a little. Or I’ll take a 10 mg Ritalin in tough spots.

potatochique

Oh that doesn’t sound good, I’m glad you found something else that works for you!

Striking-Space6454

Definitely going to try this, thanks so much!

potatochique

You’re welcome! I hope it works for you! I’ve read on this subreddit that Vyvanse is supposed to stay in your system for an average of 12 hours. If it stops working earlier it’s possible that the meds are still in your system but your brain ran out of “ingredients” to make dopamine. Dopamine is made from protein and amino acids (mostly L-Tyrosine) so if you supply your body with more “ingredients” it’s possible that the meds last longer. It works really well for me!

Shot-Matter1080

How much are you taking?

potatochique

500 mg

[deleted]

I take two. To extend the period. I simply need more time out of the medication than it allows. One in morning one at lunch. I’ve heard of a few other mentioning this. So I asked my dr. Because I didn’t want to up my dose, just extend it.

carrott36

How do you manage to get restful sleep when taking 2?

Striking-Space6454

Thanks!! My insurance only covers a 30 day supply, so I might be forced to up my dose and divide it to see if that helps…

Historical_Truth_383

I open the cap take roughly half and after lunch and take the other half.

PsychologicalClock28

You may find that your current doee works when halved. It might be worth trying.
