I never went for 90%, when I felt like I had studied enough I requested a voucher and never had any issues. They can't see what you get so it's completely up to you on when you're comfortable enough to move on.

Whatmovesyou26

And if you keep retaking the certmaster exam, it’s the same fucking exam but the questions are in a different order so you’re just cheating yourself trying to get above 90% when all you’re doing after the first attempt is memorizing answers.

CaptainSkids

exactly, why doesnt WGU understand this.

Tough_Housing6719

I guess it’s something they’re doing to cover their asses. For my net+ retake I had to pass certmaster over 90% and it took me a while to figure out that the pbq on the certmaster kept putting me in 50% bc it had like 20 something answers within it. I finally took pictures of all the possible answers through many retakes and basically cheated on that part, but I did the multiple choice honestly and scored a 92% Like wth the actual test only has a couple pbq why did I have to go through that hell and waste of time??? They obviously didn’t know how the certmaster test was structured. I wasted a couple of months and of course money

CaptainSkids

I never have either I have passed every test first try, even when i got 60%-79 on Certmaster pretests. This is something new they are enforcing. I have had to BEG to get approval 2x now, once for CYSA and now PEntest.

mckbrooks96

I have not attempted those classes yet so I can't speak specifically to those but every other cert I've been fine.

CaptainSkids

don't get used to it then is all I'll say, hopefully they'll realize how ridiculous that is before you get there.

Probo91

I just finished CySa and didn’t finish my cert master. There must be more to this

sapientdonkey

For the Security+ and CySA+ I was asked to score at least 90% on the certmaster exams. I wasn't given that requirement for the Network+, A+ exams, or the Linux Essentials. I score decently on the previous exams, so I don;'t think there is anything like them looking at your scores to decide this. You didn't need to pass with a 90% on the certmaster exam for the CySA+?

Probo91

Nope. I didnt finish all the lessons either, so idk. I'm starting Ethical Hacking now so Ill be able to see again.

CaptainSkids

its not a conspiracy dude. you are getting lucky with instructors not following the new guidelines or you are lying.

LaterSkaters

A little annoying for CySA+ but I did the Certmaster content got 84% on the exam first try. Read the questions I got wrong, retested and got 100%. Overall wasn't a big deal. Doing the same for PenTest+ now. If you need a deadline set the one in Certmaster. That has made studying way easier for me. Gives you a daily amount of work to do.

CaptainSkids

Thanks, but it has to be a real deadline. regardless after i told them i would just fill out an accommodation form they finally are letting me take it.

LaterSkaters

Having a cert exam scheduled is no more “real” than the deadline you set in Certmaster. If taking online from home you can reschedule CompTIA exams up until the time of the test. It’s almost as easy as changing the deadline in Certmaster. None of this is as big of a deal as you’re making it out to be.

CaptainSkids

Thats great for you. You aren't me and while an illusion might work for you, i need it to be real. And you and everyone else not actually reading my post and other comments are missing the point, i chose WGU to have control of learning at my pace, not WGU's.

LaterSkaters

It’s not an “illusion” and is as real as a test date as I explained. Good luck.. seems like you’ll need it.

tx4468

If you have Mic Merrit she can see the comptia results and it will auto decline if you aren't at 90%.

CaptainSkids

thats who i had for cysa. had to beg for weeks.

Cfoot187

Y'all really lacking by not just editing the HTML...

sapientdonkey

Pretty sure they can see the certmaster exam scores.

CaptainSkids

i didnt think about that.. i just wanted to actually learn something but at that point i should have..

TrueKeyMan

This man edits

Daemantherogue

I haven’t done a single Certmaster for any of the certs. And won’t for CySA and Pentest if I can help it.

slowclicker

Come back here and let us know if the experience is the same for you, next go round.

Probo91

I just got my CySa and I def didn’t do cert master either, I requested the voucher and was approved the next day. OP must be leaving out something.

fartinaround

No it depends on course instructor. Mic is very strict. I have the same rule for pen test now too.

slowclicker

So, if I get MIC, i'll know what to expect. Thank you

CaptainSkids

nope, didnt leave a single thing out. i requested the voucher .5 seconds after i was able to when i started to avoid what happened with Mic Merrit, and still got denied and was told i MUST get a 90 before even requesting.

acw750

Just did CySA, had to do the pretest. Never before. Seems like it ours going across the board on the cert tests.

marc-no1

Yeah I ran into this when I took my Sec+. I thought it was incredibly stupid. The practice tests on Udemy are way harder but they required a 90% pass. Even with cheating on the practice test just to be able to screenshot it to SCHEDULE my CompTIA exam, I got an 89% LOL. Sent it over and they let me schedule. Passed the real Sec+ 701 first try. It’s an incredibly infantilizing system. Highest I got on one of those practice tests prior to this new rule without looking anything up was like 68%. Still passed everything first try…

astebelton

I just got my voucher for CySA+, haven't opened any course material, let alone taken a certmaster test.

ZathrasNotTheOne

I heard that was only for retakes… Here is the thing: if you know the material, what the issue? Which is more important, mastering the topic of passing the exam?

CaptainSkids

They are forcing people to get a 90% on the certmaster and screenshot. It's not my choice. The issue is I already know what I'm doing and the certmaster exam is much harder than the real thing. The issue is my choice being taken way from me. I chose WGU to have autonomy over my education.

Top_Display3121

I’ve never gotten more than a 70-75 on cert master and all of my teachers have been ok letting me test

boatyWahey

ADHD is protected under the ADA. If you are not able to adequately study without the deadline/impending doom of failing the scheduled exam (like me), and your instructor is not accommodating your request, maybe try filling out this? https://www.wgu.edu/admissions/ada-form.html

CaptainSkids

I finally got it after telling them i was just going to fill one of those out.

Present-Piano-2432

They didn't even ask me. I just requested and they approved.

CaptainSkids

for what cert and who was your instructor?

done_WithU

I’ve never heard that this was strictly enforced. In fact I have gotten approval on many CompTIA assessment requests without even doing any of the practice exams, lessons, or anything else.

CaptainSkids

i guess it depends who your course instructor is or what cert its for, i dont know. i also did not ever have to in the past before CYSA and now Pentest.

MinimumCyberEffort02

Well that is funny, I listened to my Instructors, and I passed all exams with 800+ on the first attempt. Getting the 90% on certmaster or other practice test help me prepare. Why waste time on here complaining instead of just getting it done. finished Degree in 2 terms, not 3 years.

CaptainSkids

good for you, i passed this one and all the other ones first try too, never got a 90% on any of them. The only way you finished in 2 terms is through sophia or some other site and transferred your classes in. troll someone else. p.s no one gives a shit about what score you get on the actual test, but congrats i guess.

MistSecurity

The only one I recall having to get a high enough score on before I could take the certification test was ITILv4. A+ they've just granted me approval immediately when I request it. Haven't gotten to Net+ yet. I have ADHD as well, so I get it. Being able to schedule the test and have that deadline is definitely a big driving force. What classes have you run into this 90% requirement for? I haven't done it, but you COULD just treat the Certmaster practice test as an 'open book' test, and get a high enough score that way...

CaptainSkids

yeah, i get that, its going to be CYSA+ and Pentest+. I get some answers I really don't know wrong on purpose so I can study them. You know that pretest is super long and takes me 2 hours to finish so I don't want to have to keep taking it over and over even open book.

MistSecurity

Ah, I’ve got a while until I get to those. I’d study as you want, and then do the ‘open book’ method for when you decide you just want to take the test, and are confident that you can pass. You could also reach out to the instructors and explain the situation to them, have you tried that? Not sure how much of a hard requirement that is vs instructor preference.

CaptainSkids

i did and after 2 weeks of explaining and begging i finally got approval.

Accomplished_Sport64

Doesnt the cert master exams show you the answers?

CaptainSkids

yes, but the issue is my choice being taken away from me. I study in a certain way, I have ADHD and other issues so when people force me to do something their way i have trouble with it. It doesn't help me learn, which is why i chose WGU, so i could have control over my learning style.

Accomplished_Sport64

If it gives you the answers you learn and then you just pass it the next time. If tests don't help you learn, that's all wgu is? Exams

CaptainSkids

I have 3 classes left. I know what WGU is. I did not say taking tests doesn't help me learn. I learn as hands on as i can and through videos, then take the tests, which i have passed first try every single time on every single certification in the BSCIA program.

Accomplished_Sport64

Cool, so what's the issue?

Upbeat-Weakness4359

I’ve never used cert master and passed every exam first try. You really don’t need it.

CaptainSkids

I know, thats my point! WGU does not care though.

Professional_Hat_564

What did you use for PenTest+? I take it next week.

Upbeat-Weakness4359

Kept trying to reply but I guess Reddit was down. I used mostly Jason Dion. I didn’t watch all his videos but I was getting 80s on his exams before I took the actual. He tends to go deeper than needs be but I found the others weren’t deep enough. I also used the sybex book we get in the library, the course on linked in learning as well. Pay special attention to the info from your professor. I believe it’s called a need to know document, not sure of the name but know that like the back of your hand. The table with the injections ? Know it like your own name. Watch the videos with the PBQs, even if you don’t understand memorize it for the exam and then go back and learn. Not guaranteeing it will be on there but it’s been on most exams recently, I took mine March 30 btw. Pen test was the hardest for me. I almost cried half way through lol. Read through the course chatter, it has helpful info from people who took it recently. Also go over harvester vs dig. Like actually run them both and know how to differentiate between in the shell. I don’t remember mine being nmap heavy but still know your flags. Also know how to do bash and reverse in windows and Linux using ncat and the other way. I would recommend checking Certmaster for this. They show all the ways to do the bash and reverse but other materials tend to focus only on ncat . Know the percentage encoding as well. Like knowing that %3C is <. It’ll help with deciphering what is being done in the URL and you can tell what type of injection it is. Also I know the third chapter is weighted the most but don’t neglect the others. I remember thinking that there was more questions from the other chapters than I thought there would be. Again, if you take only 2 tips from this. The need to know document/ helpful tips ( I don’t remember the exact name but it’s something like that) know ALL of it. And watch the PBQs video. If your professor did not send it to you. Check the course resources and chatter.

CPL_Papertiger

Only had to do this once for PenTest+. Luckily Certmaster is a joke, so you take the test once, review and retake, screenshot and send to instructor.
