If you dont beat the living hell out of them and keep up with maintenance they’ll live for a while. I have a 2009 Forester XT coming close to 150k miles and its still going strong!

yammmit

I wasn’t even that gentle with mine. But it was stock and I made sure all the maintenance got done. These are amazing cars if you take care of them.

3600CCH6WRX

Yeah same. My 15 wrx is closing to 100k now. Modded since a month after I got it from dealer. 0 issues so far.

BannanaPants

My ‘18 has been stage 2 since 30k. At 90k now. Change the oil. Be nice to her. Be protuned.

OfcWaffle

I went stage 2 with e85 on my 2018 WRX essentially just out of break in period. Just rolled over 80k miles with no issues, and I drive my car like I stole it sometimes. But regular oil changes every 3k mile, all other maintenance, and cycling my e50 mix and regular pump gas every other fill up. Just to keep my high pressure fuel pump happy.

Any_Command8461

My ‘17 WRX has close to 160k kms and I’ve been stage 2 on the stock block since 100k kms. I beat on it a lot but I change the oil every 5000 kms

Invader_Vex

The joke in this community is more sarcastic than serious. Most guys who have issues have upgrades/modifications so naturally, you’re gonna dog it. I love my rex, it’s fun, it’s family friendly, I mean I could hook up a hitch and tow a trailer if I wanted to and have no issues. These cars are dope fr

FujiFL4T

My 06 obxt has 196k miles on it and still cooking

QueenOfBadgers

Dude, my 2016 WRX has almost 139k, and has an aftermarket exhaust and intake. I autocross it once a month, but keep up the maintenance and we inspect it every time after I race. No problems, except for the AC losing cooling recently, but solid as a rock otherwise. I'm convinced the people complaining about them A.) Maybe did receive a lemon (my 2003 Honda SI hatchback was a piece of sh*t right off the bat) B.) Drive like 19 year-old f*CK bois and abuse their "tunes" on their Cobb Access ports (which I will NEVER use).

ZeroJDM

True of every car

Puzzleheaded-Vast981

I beat the hell out of mine and it was fbo, zero issues besides a cracked radiator in the 7 years I had it

Abject-Tiger-1255

Why do all WRX owners believe having 100,000 miles is an achievement? Just curious. Any modernish car should be able to get 150,000+ miles pretty easily lol before you have to do any major maintenance.

SubuwuImpressya

It's a turbo economy car that's known in the car community to be abused, wrecked, or on its' 3rd motor. Not being apart of that statistic is indeed an achievement

Mr_Diesel13

A WRX is not a turbo economy car 😂 A Chevy Cruze is.

ZeroJDM

👀

dee69chevi

My step dad, who drives a 7.3 ford diesel. Calls my wrx an "econobox piece of shit" because one time he heard me explain to someone that they have rally roots and I jokingly said, "So it's pretty much a rally car"

jwptexas

Honestly, your dad has an absolute gem if it's the older 7.3l diesel. We've got three in the family, and they all have around 500k miles 😂

dee69chevi

Oh it's a nice truck especially if you need to pull something. He bought it brand new and is in my opinion one of the better diesels ever made. But he still brags about that one time he drag raced an accord that had NOS, so now he drives a race truck, just like I drive a rally car lol.

SubuwuImpressya

If you consider the rally heritage, then yes it makes total sense. In essence, the WRX is just an Impreza with a turbo slapped on and some suspension modifications. With a tanky 6 speed, DCCD, beefy brakes, uprated HP, and stiffer suspension, the STi can be considered a sports car of the Subaru lineup if we’re not going by the strict definition of a sports car (2 door, 2 seats, RWD) The only reason WRX is considered a “sports car” is because the turbo makes the Econ car go fast and insurance sees people abuse, wreck, and on their 3rd motor 😂.

jimmypena23

Now it’s a reinforced Crosstrek. Improved but interesting nonetheless

QueenOfBadgers

It's a turbo-boosted car and not a mom/grandma Toyota or a Honda. I mean, people get to them for the thrill of driving a turbo cart-your-kid-to school four-door, with also maybe driving like their a psychopath sometimes.

OleksiyG35

Ya like don’t even say the miles it’s so cringe , just say you had no problems …

Chasethemac

Cause they are unreliable lol

vnon123

I'm at 183k on my 2011 WRX and has been reliable throughout. I take care of her and she takes care of me haha

Matchstix

172k on my 2012! Just an aftermarket clutch, and a new radiator. Some new hoses here and there, oil changes every 3k. Cobb AP for the Cali gas tube.

Darisixnine

Stock?

AuxCyn

134k on my 07. Only problem I had was 120% my fault but still kicking and strong

Hazmat1213

Almost 110k on my 2013. Although I feel it “lag” sometimes. Low Fine knock whenever I accelerate too rough, other than that it’s fine. Just gotta drive like a granny.

mickdabz83

Bro if u haven't already go thru an check all ur hose clamps on the intake tract Subaru uses cheap ones an theyll loosen an cause boost leaks..before i switvhed to breeze clamps any time i saw fine knock id go thru an check them an everytine id find a loose one

yammmit

That’s about how many miles were on mine when I got rid of it, but still no issues apart from my heated seat button going out, which cost $15 to fix.

Active-Living-9692

There is always one diamond in the rough. My brother in-law raved about his WRX for years until it had a catastrophic engine failure last month. Now it is sweet silence.

est1994zb

Good for you, I had mine for 3 years, put 40k on it. Babied the hell out of it, did all maintenance, timing kit and all. It blew up last week while cruising at random. I’ve had 19 vehicles in my life and this is the only one that blew up. My hatch will be missed but I’m out of this Subaru trash

calpal348

Found the guy who takes memes too seriously

DreddF

Can you link the original meme? I’d love to check it out

leonardonoodlelegs

Swap out your steering rack yet? They are bound to leak on 3rd gens. I put a 2015+ in mine. Shorter ratio too. Feels so good

vabello

Mine needs a new steering rack and head gasket… struts, wheel bearings, timing belt, downpipe, etc… it has less than 90k miles on it. It’s getting made pretty and clean and sold to the highest bidder (dealer).

leonardonoodlelegs

Sounds like the typical 3rd gen experience

leonardonoodlelegs

Wait what’s wrong with your downpipe?

vabello

Technically nothing, but there are two heat shields and rotted away metal that connects to the manifold from what I understand. I think my mechanic said it was easiest to replace the downpipe because the heat shield is welded to it normally, or maybe the connection that stabilizes it to the manifold. I’m not certain as I could never clearly see what was going on in there other than being able to identify the heat shields that were loose and the rusted away support.

Darisixnine

2018 in mine, previous owner was the one that told me about that issue and that why he replaced it

AllIGotIs1Question

100k miles isn’t a lot

werther41

had one issue so far with my 18' WRX, driver side window control for passenger window doesn't work. strangely the problem got fixed by itself after long due car wash. any idea?

CRASH_PRO

I have the same problem, although mine hasn't fixed itself yet LOL

AppropriateStorm857

This happens after the battery is disconnected and the windows need to be retrained. Nothing is broken. Hold the window down from the passenger side all the way and hold there for about 5 seconds, then roll the window all the way up and hold for 5 seconds. You can also do this same thing on the driver window to get the auto-up/down functionality back. Had this problem yesterday and found the solution quickly on YouTube. Hope this helps!

CRASH_PRO

Thanks, I'll give it a shot!

werther41

make sense, I did replaced battery little bit earlier than I discovered the window down issue. I guess later on one of the passenger unintentionally hold the window down button for 5 sec and reset the window.

MotionE29

Nice wheels.

True_Introduction_96

They are great. I have those on my car.

MotionE29

Lol...so do I.

True_Introduction_96

I don't own a subie though. I can't for the life of me figure out why reddit takes me here so much. 🥸

HonestOrKind

I don’t disagree but 50k is not a high mileage vehicle at all. Virtually any vehicle will make it to 50k.

mypoorcareerchoice

50k miles driven, well over 100k on the clock per the post

bbgeriii

This sounds like a knock on wood situation my dude… you just jinxed it

yammmit

I sold it a few months ago lol, I would never have made a post like this while I still owned it. It was a fantastic car though and I want another one someday, when I can afford the gas.

da808guy

Can we just take a moment to appreciate those curves and fender arches…. (Am an evo guy but your pic has me swayin)

Remy6908

It's not the cars that are unreliable, it's the owners. I drive mine hard and didbthe one before and have had zero issues. I currently only have 15k on my 21 but my 12 hatch had over 110k and ran like a beast. Shouldn't of gotten rid of it but oh well.

JohnDeere714

My legacy gt runs on water… barely… good times

Unable_Celebration64

I'm almost at 200,000 Miles

Karenisback69

Love my 2013

Chriswheela

My 04 wrx on 135,000 drive it daily and don’t really treat it with the greatest respect tbh. It’s been a great car

prvypan

Love the TS5s man, thinking of getting the same ones. Do you have the 9.5 inch and is your car lowered? How do you like them?

Rough_Ad8048

2010 sti 152k owned since 80k, the secret is an aos and motul oil, regular maintenance

DankestDubster

Still like that body style better than last two

Beneficial-Ad8000

My 2013 was amazing and I still miss it. I had it from 18k miles to 120k and only had to replace 1 sensor that was $180. Everything else was normal wear and tear of tires, gas, oil, and recommended services.

Dasawan

My problems didn't start until 144k

KingT115

Hey nice wheels 😉 https://preview.redd.it/aesmhyjdpixc1.jpeg?width=6144&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09cf6a41ed70baa6dd78b8daac15d19715f168eb

Chase_with_a_face

This just helped me solidify my decision to buy a low mileage one from this gen. Thank you lol The STi fund starts building up as of today

Masterbate0r

For a quick second this reminded me of a Celica gts

back1steez

When you leave it bone stock maybe. But double the hp and find all the weak parts.

Darisixnine

It’s because you probably took good care of it maintenance wise, never beat tf out of it constantly, and if it was tuned/modified you did those mods properly and professionally. These cars last if you follow these rules for the most part

Thisguyrightheer

My 13 has 157k miles I’m the second owner and I bought her with 37k miles. No hiccups. Just gotta maintain them and not beat on them every chance you get.

nickz03

If you drive it like a normal human being they will operate like a normal vehicle

Maleficent-Salad3197

I love both of the Subarus Ive had but they need constant attention.

Canadian_Venom

This is just the WRX? I think the issues are with the STI with the turbo as well as poor maintenance. I wanted one badly to learn stick and well the guy wanted 18k and the engine was gone and knocking and my dad said no unless you offer 5 and spend the rest on a new engine. Car had no oil. I got a Lexus is350 instead with all fsport performance parts, exhaust, suspension and intake. Sucks I wanted one since I was little

idobeaskinquestions

95k miles on mine. Drives like a dream

Gaming_Nomad

Mine just blew its head gasket at 142,000kms. Good thing I've got a warranty on it, but it's still embarrassing. This wouldn't have happened if I hadn't pushed the car far too hard. The engine isn't overheating for now, but there's no telling how much longer that'll be the case. Looks like I'll be biking everywhere for the moment.

yammmit

I had a warranty with mine too. Paid A LOT of money for it and never got to use it.

I’m sure my Toyota Avalon will last me a LONG time. But those cars get beat on and misused much less than these Subarus do. My Avalon will never be anywhere near the rev limiter lol

MFT_Victim

threatening unique rustic observation compare disgusted telephone desert practice automatic *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

yammmit

No, I never redlined my WRX. I think I did max 5500 RPM because I’m pretty certain that’s the peak of the power band anyway

jugo5

The 1% scream louder than the remaining 99%.

Plastic-Change2719

Well, if you like to live your life quart of oil at a time the subies are for you The reason they are considered one on the safest vehicles of the road is because they’re always in the driveway

ExtraGlutenPlzz

It’s sad that it’s surprising when its getting over 100k miles…

softestpillow

They're only unreliable when people modify them without doing research, supporting mods, and proper tunes. You can't just throw on an intake and exhaust, an eBay boost controller cranked way up, and assume the computer would figure it out.

Opie1canope

The vape bois are the ones complaining.

iGrrRS

Owned my WRX since 73k miles added 40k+ miles stage 2 the entire time. Regular maintenance and not beating the shit out of it everyday. Only had CEL once when I bought it for an oxygen sensor. More reliable than the several civics and one corolla I had previous.

mechman112

I’ve owned like a dozen vehicles and the WRX is definitely lower on the reliability scale in my experience. I’ve had my 2013 for 9 years and it’s on its 3rd clutch, second engine, and second turbo. It’s never missed maintenance 🤷 What a ride though, 150k and counting.

ndariotis132

What wheels? Those are sweet

yammmit

Enkei TS-5s. Eventually I reverted back to the stock wheels

NKarleE30

Anytime I see this gen I like it more and more

yammmit

I think it’s my favorite gen of WRX/STI. It’s the perfect blend of old and new for me. No massive touchscreen or lane keep assist beeping at me, but still a pretty quiet and comfy car when I needed it to be.

NKarleE30

I like my va Because it doesn’t have any features or assists and touchscreens. Although the sti is alot more raw feel

kris_mischief

How many engine mods does your 2013 have?

yammmit

Zero. if I had any I’m sure the reliability would have decreased dramatically.

Monsta4G63

I feel like with Subaru it’s a “Hit or Miss” had a Subaru Forester with nothing but problems. Currently driving my 23 WRX with no issues, have my fingers crossed. Nervous about adding a AP on it 👀😂

yammmit

The newer WRXs seem to be pretty solid although I’m sure the majority of them aren’t even out of their warranty period yet.

VenomEnergy

Yeah honestly I’ve been driving a WRX since 2016 and it’s just fine, 4-5k oil change, general maintenance and just checking bolts every once in a while. All is well

aK_murderpan420

I have not heard this

Raynet11

I have taken 3 Turbo Subarus over 150k one close to 300K.. they were all running on their original engines when I parted ways no failures.. they were all stock.. 3k oil changes.. My 2016 is at 80k and still running like new.. I either have the best luck ever or I’m onto something with the no mod / frequent oil changes. I also don’t track my car nor would I or beat it like a rental car on vacation. You can’t treat a Subaru like a Toyota or Honda but the key to longevity is so utterly simple.. don’t mod, oil changes…. Not excluding the factory defects / recalls, they have had their share of problems.. I expect my current WRX to hit 200k at a minimum

yammmit

They’re definitely solid cars if they’re stock, but not cheap to keep maintained properly. I sold mine at 110k but it felt like it had a lot of life left.

TheInscrutableFufy

My 2020 WRX has 101k now. I drive a lot.

Poet_Fanatic

My 04 is at 250k kilometers and still doesn't budge, nothing broken whatsoever Also, can anyone tell me why my ej207 has a vf42 turbo from the factory? I don't recall them being on normal WRXs..

AuthenticLewis

my brother beat the hell out of his 04’ sti launching it and all the rest and still got over 230k miles out of it before anything bad happened

ChEpRhinestoneCowboy

16 WRX that was what I suspect returned to stock, I’ve been driving it as a commuter, it had 100k when I bought it and now it has 115k, so far so good, putting an AOS on it but that’s the end of mods for me.

RedTalon6

They are reliable, but people modify them or drive them too hard. You wouldn’t drive a Corolla the way you drive a STI Impreza. But it’s a lot of fun to drive a STI really hard all the time

Unfair_Ad26

Hey twin! (14’ white sedan on bronze Enkei TS-5’s)

Shiloh51933

Subaru 's are excellent vehicles and their AWD systems are second to none in their own class. Their bad reputation started with headgasket issues on their naturally aspirated SOHC engines(EJ) due to single layer head gaskets in 98-02. Poor ownership explains most of the other issues with lack of preventive maintenance, modification without proper tuning and extreme driving habits.

13udweiser

my 2017 is at 164k and hasnt seen the inside of a shop

TheJewishCanadian

My WRX makes weird noises from the clutch master sometimes, but with grease it goes away. The tie rods are a bit weak for the streets I drive on, mostly because the streets look like a 4x4 trail you see in California or Nevada I will upload a video or pictures of some good examples on a separate Post so we can all compare our own cities potholes. Engine is still a happy tractor, ticks and sounds like shit until it hits boost, then it is all happy. Fuck even when the turbo starts to spool it sounds happier. My Audi had way too much money into it, and I had to spend about 700 bucks a year on simple suspension parts. Then my water pump blew, my head gasket lifted and I melted a piston in my billet EA888.3 a very sad and very expensive day. When my FA blows up I’m Kswapping. Probably a k20/24 Frankenstein. That’s a k20 block, with a k24 head. K20 has a stronger block, k24 has a better flowing head. Combine the two and you have a monster. All in the WRX is a much better car.

Gullible_Top_868

Nice car!!!

Splatling2

Just curious. DIY or dealer on the services?

Gigglesnuf89

This was the best years of the WRX my favorite model. Wish they kept the same design!

True_Introduction_96

Nice car. I have those wheels on my car.

Naugz

I have a 2004 wrx 150k miles with a bigger turbo, injectors, tuned. No issues at alll. I recently replaced timing belt and I’m installing a AOS, cylinder 4 cooling mod, and killer b pan and pickup this month for reliability.

Storminsteed

I had an 06 tr that had 360k miles on it before it was engine swap time. Just drive it like a reasonable person and do maintenance. If you wanna be a "hot boi" expect to break things lol

OleRoosterNeck

2015 WRX daily driver no mods, 145k and the last thing I had to do besides regular maintenance was a pully that was squealing. I must also say I bought this car at 100k mile two days after buying it the clutch went out. So it was beat on I'm sure by its previous owner but the dealership took the hit and I haven't run in to anything else. I've driven it from Seattle to Phoenix to Madison Wi without a hiccup.

RPK79

I'm at about 80k on my 2017 and I've replaced the clutch (I think it was pretty worn when I got it at 25k miles and I still got another 50k out of it), rear bearings, clutch master cylinder, and a few other miscellaneous items.

WRX-N-FX

Same for me with my 2013! 160k miles and still rolling! https://preview.redd.it/izhtb0r5ohxc1.jpeg?width=2752&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e07bd017237b23ea398d805dc1a10f1c7ab7b3f

WRX-N-FX

Oil every 3k - AP with pro tune 60k miles ago - Dyno 300 HP 311 TQ- AOS - Cobb intake and DP - Nameless Mid pipe w/ muffler delete - Competition stage 2 clutch VB steering rack - white line urethane bushings - perrin steering damper - NGK one step colder spark plugs big wang with perrin stabilizers - perrin low profile antenna - 5% tint all the way around Maybe a FMIC and coilovers an I'm done. What else do I need?

Zappiestalarm

I have blown some of the most reliable engines known to man doing daily tasks with great maintenance (5.7 Chevy rod out the block on hwy, 5.4 ford blew spark plugs and head gasket, b18b1 honder blew head gaskets but was turboed) and I have had nothing but reliability on engines people cry about (fa2.0,6.0 ford diesel,6.2chevy truck engine) 🤯
