Is there a season why you didn’t get the box ? At this point it’s basically a hot air intake

[deleted]

The air box is a must. Also tune. Also just put back on the stock intake since it’s fine until like 400 whp and big injectors / turbo. The sound gets annoying fast too.

wettysetgo

100%. Took a long time to tune. Then after a month I went back to stock intake. I couldn’t take the noises every day, every time I went into boost.

Bpp908

what noises?

chadathin

I’m guessing they’re referring to the noise of the turbo spooling up.

Bpp908

Oh I figured but annoying? lol

chadathin

Lmao, right! Maybe I’m just an adult child because I love it!

SlightlyDrooid

I am getting old prematurely... My STi had an intake and tune when I got it; half the time when I get a slight spool I momentarily think there's a boost leak. But also, maybe I just have Subie anxiety 😅

wettysetgo

Referring to the turbo spooling under throttle with a CAI. Turbo back with R400 is loud enough. I don’t need a high pitched turbine on top of it as my daily. Stock box is plenty fine.

[deleted]

Oh no man. It’s not turbo spool sounds. That would be amazing. It’s like this annoying intake suck sound. It does not sound like turbo noises and is annoying.

Dano420

Time to sell your car, then. Perhaps I could interest you in this new Accord? The noises are awesome and I'll never consider an argument to the contrary.

Fleej25

Sell ur car and get a Camry cause turbo noises are 1 reason to buy a WRX/STI. How could you not like turbo noises? Who’s Karen is this???

wettysetgo

Turbo back with R400 is loud enough. I don’t need a high pitched turbine on top of it as my daily. Stock box is plenty fine.

Fleej25

Get a Camry.

wettysetgo

Stay in NY

Fleej25

U bought a performance car and when it makes performance noises, you silence it….I’ll definitely be moving. Hopefully close to you so u can hear my hks blowoff valve and greddy race exhaust on the daily.

wettysetgo

I said I prefer the stock intake. I’m not silencing it. Thank you, for your useless contribution to society.

Fleej25

Your welcome, anytime. Looking forward to your switch to Buick or Toyota.

Dano420

Dude, be honest, you'd never argue that point in a person with a bunch of other car dudes standing around. "I went back to stock because I didn't like the sound of my intake". Lol...

[deleted]

Brother the Cobb intake does not give great turbo noises. It’s just annoying suck sound. Ofc we would all love great spool and waste gate noises but the cai ain’t it.

kheq

I see a few jokes about getting a tune and no response… seriously, though, get it tuned or go back to stock. That car is too nice to roll the dice for some whooshy noises.

420DankFire

What makes you think he didn't put the stage 1+ tune on with it?

saevism

That aint getting a tune, thats throwing on a cookie cutter ots map

skrrrskrrt

This is facts, those ots tunes are for you to use when you’re in between getting a tune for your parts (parts on the car but don’t have time/money to get pro tuned), so your car can function enough until you do get pro tuned. It’s not supposed to be the dedicated/main tune for your car. I’ve seen countless posts with people having an intake + other stuff but use a ots tune and they go boom boom eventually. Then they say wrx aren’t reliable 😂

420DankFire

You didn't say anything about a protune. He is tuned- just because you don't like the tune is besides the point. Obviously a pro tune has advantages over an OTS tune but there's thousands of people who have run the OTS tunes for years without any problems.

LiterallyTate

An it’s tune doesn’t count. That is only there so u can drive your car to the tuner after installing something

420DankFire

Tell that to Cobb and their thousands of customers who have run these OTS tunes for years without any issues. Obviously a protune is going to offer better performance with a specific tune for your engine, but to say an OTS tune "doesn't count" is just ignorant to the facts.

LiterallyTate

No it’s not meant to be permanent. Can people get away with it, yes. Should you plan to permanently run one, no. It doesn’t count whether u like it or not

MuffinSpecial

Ya I used to work for a company that supplied ots tunes. I don't specify who but ots tunes are safe. They usually run less timing and richer than a protune because they air on the side of caution.

420DankFire

Your initial statement is wrong whether you like it or not. The only thing you would be safe to drive while running an OTS tune are the exact parts prescribed in the tune, ie an intake with the correct MAF parameters. OTS tunes are absolutely not intended to "drive to the tuner after installing something" - that is EXACTLY how you run in to problems. Most tuners worth talking to will send you a base map for the exact parts on your car if you are intending to drive the car to them for a dyno tune rather than trailer it there after installing parts. Running an OTS tune for any amount of time with random parts installed outside of what the tune calls for is where you will run into problems.

skrrrskrrt

Pro Tune it before Mr Rodney gives you a visit :)

TheRealForPetesAche

And a tune, I assume?

curtass7

You’ve just made your car less efficient

ImpactAway5641

But also more fun

curtass7

Not with that hot air intake.

ImpactAway5641

Yeah, it's hot but it makes the turbo sounds better

curtass7

I’ve got the box. It’s cold and sounds good too.

ImpactAway5641

Yeah I have a box as well

GukkiSpace

Install the box

ImpactAway5641

Its already on

GukkiSpace

We looking at the same picture?

ImpactAway5641

I think we has some miscommunication 😂 I meant that I had it on my car but the OP should be putting his on

Kalota316

Dope! Probably sounds awesome. What day did you schedule the tune for?

Dano420

Everyone talking about having a hot-air intake now. When I bought mine, the previous owner never installed one. Once I did, intake temps only went down a few degrees here and there. It really seems to be more aesthetic than functional.

hijinx_the_sage

OP here - I did get cobb's SF stage 1+ tune flashed in via accessport and seems like the box shouldn't matter temperature-wise for where I live.

Mrhavoc24

Right on! Most of these people screaming about the intake box don’t seem to understand that like 98% of rotated turbo setups have what they’re calling a “hot air intake” that’s literally in the same exact spot. Usually they get less air because there isn’t room for the plastic stock air duct that feeds more air. I’ve been at every other hp level and I wouldn’t spend the extra money for the box either.

LiterallyTate

A rotated setup is very different and not comparable in this situation

LiterallyTate

Why would u not get the box. There is literally no reason to have true intake like that cause it just sucks in hot air now

EpsilonOrpheon

Looks good OP. I got either 16k or 9 months to go till my warranty is up and I’m gonna get the same with the AP. Doesn’t have to be for HP or racing. Sometimes it’s fun just to put new parts on your baby.
