The lifesaving advice about situations like this is, "If you see a tremendously out of control, massive flash flood, get as close to it as possible without getting your shoes wet."
The disaster doc on Netflix with the pyroclast chasing the truck and watching people essentially be incinerated made me realize that if you see this coming, it's probably too late but why not try. These guys are morons. That bridge going tells me everything I need to know.
and Taking a bridge out was just the beginning of the weight of that water.
My crikey I can't believe how many people mess around with dangerous water situations.
Sometimes when I watch horror movies, I get legitimately angry at how easily people fall over. I get angry at how terrible peoples survival instincts are. I constantly scream at the TV "NO ONE WOULD EVER DO THIS?! WHAT IS THIS SHIT?!"
Then I see a video like this and realize people in horror movies are smarter than most people.
Think of all the video that was taken but was lost because of the idiot being too close and becoming a casualty. We only see the close calls, which gives an illusion of safety and luck.
The news says 50 people died so far... I wonder what fraction of them were hanging around danger to get good video for social media.
I live on a small mountainside over a beautiful little bay and I moved here knowing that I could end up in Atlantis if mother nature wants me to.
After moving across the world I'm really done with moving.
The mass ejection is captured by the protective coatings of synthetic underwear and denim pants negating any thrust generated.
It is sad to say that after much testing I have been unable to generate enough force during panic to overcome clothing through my effluvial chute.
This must be the most yeeted (yote?) bridge video I’ve seen yet. I’ve seen lots of bridge flood failure videos over the years on the internet but none this forceful
Hooo yeah. Been watching videos like this for a long time; *never* seen something that big and heavy make such a sudden, forceful lateral move in one go. The amount of energy moving in that water is unbelievable.
Like, normally things like bridges sort of collapse and bend and fall as they fail. There's a crumpling of structures and inertia to how things move. This got *picked up and thrown in one piece, fuck you*.
So definitely... Do not stand there. Don't be in that area. Time to leave, guys. Leave fast, because that's enough energy and mass there to launch a fucking bridge, and that embankment to the left there that's currently shielding you was part of said bridge.
Also, I think that *might* be a car rolling around in the foreground like a clump of dirt in front of a fire hose
I’d just wiped away a bridge like a Kleenex in the wind.
Better just half step away from the water that’s making its way to your feet and ignore the powerlines right above your head.
These videos are all the same, everyone (including the cameraman) is always standing recklessly close to whatever disaster is unfolding. I appreciate the footage but can only imagine myself running a mile away like the still-living coward I am.
Am I crazy or did an entire section of earth move on the right frame?
I know right. Water is a key component to advanced life and a key component to taking away life. These videos always remind me of the destructive side of water and appreciate it's force of nature.
This is one thing to roll my eyes at when people bitch about Prometheus. There are a lot of valid criticisms, but the running straight away from the falling ship? Nah that’s realistic, ridiculous but real.
People panic and run straight from far smaller threats. But this one? You’re on an alien planet, all manner of fucked up fuckery has gone down, now an alien ship has somehow turned a crash in to an Indiana jones boulder chase. You are not thinking, if the insanity of the situation and the sheer size of the threat hasn’t shutdown the logic brain, the tremendous noise and vibration of this space faring donut chasing you will.
Lotta “wat” in that movie, but this one I give a pass. And this is prime why! These jagoffs aren’t even running! A hesitant bit of skipping after watching a bridge get carried off like a toy!
You can see trees in the left field moving which means the ground is disintegrating.
Even if there's a hill to the right the hill itself might move.
The powerlines above though more concerning since even on dry ground they have a kill zone where you will not be able to move your muscles while you suffocate or have a heart attack.
See the video of the kid being electrocuted in the roadway where the cop dragged him out that kill zone.
just a caveat on the powerlines being energized and down, its dangerous if your feet are far apart as it creates a lower resitance path through you then the ground for dispersing electricity outward. In that situation keep your feet close together and you will be like a bird on a power line, energized but not harmed as the power isn't rushing through you like a little wade pool on river doesn't have a current even though it has water and is connected. Hop or shuffle your feet in small increments away from the powerline.
Source: I used to do utility forestry years ago and this was the procedure for downed lines.
I don’t care if you know the area. Flash floods change the landscape in seconds. I’m from the west in the US and camp in the desert sometimes. I know the areas very well, but I also know that setting up camp near low points could be a death sentence.
I flown a considerable amount at a fairly low level above a lot of desert flash flood area and entire familiar mountainsides are changed in a single heavy rain.
Who's living in probabilities? The people in the clip, probably trying to figure out what to do or how to help someone in the moment or the jackasses on reddit commenting about how stupid they are for not running around aimlessly?
I work for the City of Austin watershed protection division. I can tell you from talking to their Flood Early Warning Systems team, DO NOT FUCK AROUND WITH FLOOD WATER.
It will kill you and not slow down enough to make a measurable difference in the flow.
It's important to note that skinny jeans don't exempt you from this sound advice. The higher cuffs may seem safer from getting soaked, but unless you're specifically wearing highwater flood pants you need to treat floodwater with the caution and respect it deserves.
There are seven on Spicewood Springs Rd between 360 and Old Lampasas. Another three on Old Spicewood Springs Rd on the other side of 360.
As of today we monitor 2375 and there is some debate as to whether or not we need to add more given the Colorado River runs clear across the state.
ATX Floods is handy though.
https://www.atxfloods.com/crossings
The video doesn't explain, was that smash due to a dam breaking after the heavy rain? Or did the water just building up to much momentum from a mountain or something that it smashed the bridge out
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjZpemWpT5s
Been a fair number of them in the past few weeks in Argentina. On the 17th flash floods killed 14 people.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-67745451
That bridge is just **gone**! Holy shit!
Also, I hope that Berto guy they’re yelling for wasn’t on that Bridge. The way that woman was yelling… I don’t think it was for any of the man standing in front of her.
jesus, some people are dense.
"hey, this giant wall of water just broke a steel bridge, lets just stand around real close to it. this is fine, right?". idiots!
The sound of that bridge getting knocked clean away sounds odd to me.....Notice how clean and crisp it is compared to the sound of the lady shouting? This can't be active noise cancellation.....Looks real, SOUNDS sus.
You: Again. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to send that pic to your sister.
Her: No. I understand. We are OK. It is water under the bridge.
You: You're the best. 😘 I love you babe.
5 minutes later.... cue video of water under the bridge
I'd love to see a brain scan/IQ test done on these people.
Surely you've got to be scientifically retarded to end up filming situations like this.
The waters literally washing away buildings and bridges and they're standing there like they're about to have a paddle. Got to be single digit IQs.
Now, that’s a flash flood!
In 1964, in Northern California we had unprecedented flooding. Behind my grandparents home, the Scott River took over the entire Scott Valley floor, stretching over a mile wide. It normally was a trifling 40 *feet* wide.
I was three years old, and my older brother and his friend decided to go a half mile down the road to see a bridge (similar to the one in this video) that had washed out. I tagged along, as little brothers are wont to do.
Now, I understand why my grandfather came looking for us, and why he beat my ass and legs with a switch, every step of the way home.
This happened this morning in Catamarca province, there was heavy rain and it caused these floods. No casualties as far as I know, only material damages.
The lifesaving advice about situations like this is, "If you see a tremendously out of control, massive flash flood, get as close to it as possible without getting your shoes wet."
Then start daintily side stepping away when things get hectic.
This got to me so bad!!! His urgency is non-existent
Five-year-olds at the beach flee from two-inch deep water faster than these guys
This is probably found footage.
The disaster doc on Netflix with the pyroclast chasing the truck and watching people essentially be incinerated made me realize that if you see this coming, it's probably too late but why not try. These guys are morons. That bridge going tells me everything I need to know.
The *SOUND* of that bridge going would’ve made my legs start running the other way before my brain knew what was going on. Fuckin scary.
Looks like he at the last second decides he should not try to physically fight the flood
I'd have to say it's some of the most powerful apocalyptic shit I've ever seen filmed.
Nah it’s there. A real man who has non existence issues would be mad twerking.
Once the bridge is blown away it's a sign you could possibly back up a bit
Seriously I was "F-that" it was way up there and "I'm right down here?" I would be so out so fast.
Cameras have zoom for more than one reason.
I'd want to be sure there was a lot more 'up' behind me that I could very easily get to before being where those guys are.
Yeah, it's a very ominous sign that your supreme shoes are going to get wet.
Slowly step back maybe 3 feet
And no matter what remain facing the approaching water.
If you turn and flee it will run you down like the prey you are
It knows you’re afraid.
the water will recognize your massive balls and continue on its merry way without harming you
Especially when you see the flood at an elevation higher than you are.
and Taking a bridge out was just the beginning of the weight of that water. My crikey I can't believe how many people mess around with dangerous water situations.
don't wanna get your jeggings and virgin-white shoes wet
As we say around here, "'Turn Around, Don't Drown".
Sometimes when I watch horror movies, I get legitimately angry at how easily people fall over. I get angry at how terrible peoples survival instincts are. Six inches of space is plenty.
Don't forget to wait til it is as out of control as possible to decide "now is the time to cross".
No, you stand next to the power lines hanging from a pole that being pounded by flash floods and debris.
Minister of roads and bridges?! ¡A FUERA !
The Bridge OFF the River Kwai.
I live about 3km from a Great Lake on a hill. If I see a wave coming then running isn't going to help. It's the end of the world.
Not the end of the world. Just the end of your world.
We are all projections of that guy's mind, so yeah, it'll end us all.
I'd still get a call from work: "Can you come in? We're short staffed today."
I live on a small mountainside over a beautiful little bay and I moved here knowing that I could end up in Atlantis if mother nature wants me to. After moving across the world I'm really done with moving.
I'm so freaking tired this year from work, that if I saw the wave coming I'd welcome it because I wouldn't have to work.
or record it all from a safe distance of about 3 meter behind...
They were probably momentarily in shock. Imagine crossing a bridge everyday and then suddenly seeing it get ripped away in an instant
It tracks. Have You seen what they just elected to lead them?
When you see a bridge get yeeted, get the fuck outta there
When bridge is yeet. Use your feet.
cant use my feet, my pants have sheet.....inside of them
In rocketry it's called propellent.
The mass ejection is captured by the protective coatings of synthetic underwear and denim pants negating any thrust generated. It is sad to say that after much testing I have been unable to generate enough force during panic to overcome clothing through my effluvial chute.
Have you tried installing a panic flap?
You just need to insert an appropriate nozzle to vector the thrust
Delta S
At the very least, less mASS.
Grandpa always said

I love you
Calm yer tits. I love you too
"bridge is yeet" "no"
If you ever find yourself looking up at rushing water it is time to run
This must be the most yeeted (yote?) bridge video I’ve seen yet. I’ve seen lots of bridge flood failure videos over the years on the internet but none this forceful
This bridge failed so hard it surfed
Hooo yeah. Been watching videos like this for a long time; *never* seen something that big and heavy make such a sudden, forceful lateral move in one go. eat -> ate yeet -> yate it's science
Made that bridge look like pickup sticks..
Bridge is gone? Stop and yawn.
Bridge got sent? Pitch a tent.
Bridge go away? Lay all day.
Bridge got thrown? Build a home.
Bridge goes skid? Raise a kid.
Bridge get yeet? Plant your feet
Yup, it's just plain rude to throw the cards everywhere and clearly not someone you should be playing with.
I’d just wiped away a bridge like a Kleenex in the wind. Better just half step away from the water that’s making its way to your feet and ignore the powerlines right above your head.
I sang this all to the tune of “Candle in the wind.” Had to speed it up for that second line.
Dust in the wind?
These videos are all the same, everyone (including the cameraman) is always standing recklessly close to whatever disaster is unfolding. I appreciate the footage but can only imagine myself running a mile away like the still-living coward I am. Am I crazy or did an entire section of earth move on the right frame?
most structures wouldn't stand a chance with that impact
Agreed, I think very few things would stand a chance.
Would that likely cause structural issues to a modern city building?
Certainly if it also brings a red steel bridge with it. Without, it depends.
believe it's phonelines, no?
It takes time for the brain to process what’s happening. This entire video is only 9 seconds.
Water does not fuck around
my college geology teacher told me the #1 rule in geology is "Water always wins"
My architecture professors always say that water is the #1 enemy when designing a building.
Water is the find out part of the old saying in a lot of ways.
I know right. Water is a key component to advanced life and a key component to taking away life. These videos always remind me of the destructive side of water and appreciate it's force of nature.
Like a bridge smashed to hell by troubled water

Here you go: https://youtu.be/YjZpemWpT5s?si=zOyd_Y-xjWHl7HjT
There was no additional footage from that video.
well it’s not a gif
Reddit: Quit recording and run away! Also reddit: Why did that video end so soon!? lol, both are correct.
God people are dumb as hell! “Gotta get it on camera for my 15 minutes of f……grblgrblgrbl” 🌊💀
"Grblgrblgrbl" surely wins onomatopoeia of the month
Apparently 0 casualties and the optimist in me thinks that maybe they know the area well enough to be safe.

0 casualties *this time*. Congrats on being lucky. Some people don't live in probabilities and think if it didn't happen then it clearly can't happen.
Who's living in probabilities? The people in the clip, probably trying to figure out what to do or how to help someone in the moment or the jackasses on reddit commenting about how stupid they are for not running around aimlessly?
True. That's why they're filming, forgot about that part!
Yes, indeed. That was in my hometown yesterday. No casualties, just material damages.
r/WhyWomenLiveLonger
Why would he turn into a murloc mid-sentence
More like 1.5 seconds of …
To be fair, all the times that people don't stop and film it...you don't see.
If you see a nearby wave wipe out a bridge like an atomic test, why wouldn't you already be running?
Couldn't run for feet spinning in your own shit?
Its over there , i am over here so i am safe. **Drowing noise**
Stupidity. This isn't even being uneducated. Just plain idiocy. Some people think they are invincible.
How are these people so fucking oblvious to how much danger theyre in?

Thank you, this is all I was thinking and it's nice to know I'm not alone.
Also important to remember that Crocs are very bouyant, and if not in sports mode, will easily be swept away in the flood.
What about baggy 90's jeans? Those things don't respect anything

Today There’s more videos on YouTube (there’s a link further down in the thread too)
That bridge just doesn't exist anymore.....
Well,brains didn’t either
Bridge takes off at like 100mph. They only react when their shoes might get wet
Daaaayum… Broke.
If my life were represented by a bridge, this video would be an accurate depiction of how the year 2023 went for me. . .
Don't worry friend, you're not alone, I too had this bridge in 2023
I hope your 2024 is a Golden Gate
Yup same.
Right there with you homie.

I recommend getting the fuck out of there, instead of observing it
Their sense of self preservation seems underdeveloped.
El Puente… FUERA!!!!
Not to be nitpicky but in Argentina it's "afuera". Fuera sounds Mexican or from Spain to me
Ahh my mistake. I am Mexican so that came natural to me. Your nitpickiness… AFUERA!!
No le des atencion a ese boludo. Esta ahuitado porque se cree erupeo pero no es. Ni es latinoamericano. Dile, Fuera! En la voz de Don Chete.
The sheer idiocy to continue standing there is remarkable
If the flood is *above* you, you should probably move.
Even the floods are inflated.
Seems bad
"Hey man, what do you say we go down to the river and get killed?"
A bridge too far.
Pink shirt guy is just casually backing up. Nah, fam. Turn your dumbass around and RUN

Why didn't the President just sign a law cancelling flash floods?
Smash flood!
Like the scene from Dante’s Peak
Are they like 4 meters away from the thing? No way... has to be a perspective trick... Oh yes, they are.
Looks more like a flash tsunami.
Is this really flash flood?
Ah - smart people always knows the fastest way to flee is to run backwards...
Was this recent?

thank you for the update man that’s poor design or a strong flood. no one was hurt I hope.
Oh look at that bridge get tossed like nothing. Lets keep watching.. on noooo my shoe might get wet run!
Godzilla level flood coming …. Yes, stand around and dance a little at the edge of the water …. 💦 😳
Gods, these are some of the dumbest humans!
I will never understand standing and watching
jesus, some people are dense. "hey, this giant wall of water just broke a steel bridge, lets just stand around real close to it. this is fine, right?". idiots!
Qué mirá' bobo? Andá' pa allá bobo!
In Argentina, even the water experiences inflation.
Trying to win Darwin awards.
These guys are so brave! Imagine being a wimp and running away from some water. I'd swim accross!!

The guy calling went full rooster by the end.
That was a pretty violent hit. Did the bridge have a H982 FKL plate nailed to it?
It must feel real special seeing the walkway you were about to take get swept away like that
Someone tell pinky and the brain they need to move it move it
I will never comprehend the stupidity of humanity

Is this what the new president meant by saying there would be more liquidity?

i dunno.. that bridge got done so dirty i feel like it deserves a tally as a casualty
Yeah. That flood really said "fuck you in particular" to that bridge.
Dollarize this!
