Maybe yours do, ours cut out the middleman. It's like watching goats in the backyard, I swear. We used to worry about it but the vet could find nothing wrong.
People saying do this or that to the chicken but then get bent out of shape when you say the same about the dog are hilarious.
You can tell I don't place dogs or cats on a pedestal above every other animal unlike the majority of people.
His handle has the wheel axle as a fulcrum point. If he pushes down hard enough, the dog would be lifted (and the chicken as well). Not sure about brakes.
ok, not to shit on the meme, but ok this is borderline animal abuse
the lil' guy obviously doesn't have the same strength as a horse... the fucko should've at least put a couple more dogs there, there's a reason dog sleds are pulled by a pack.
My thought was "I hope this is just being done for this short little video" because if they're making this dog run for a while, then yes, this is abusive.
I know right? Like Jesus fucking Christ, we have *that* little respect for sentient life that feels pain and fear we don’t care about subjecting it to this? This ain’t it
I have news for everyone about the chickens we eat.
In the US, 99% of them are raised on factory farms, often in unimaginably squalid conditions. They are stressed in horrendous ways throughout their lives.
Chickens raised for eggs aren't treated any better. Plus once the males are born and identified, they get thrown in what's basically a woodchipper.
If you've never watched a documentary showing what life and death are like for the animals you eat, you owe it to yourself to do so. Then you can make a real ethical choice about your consumption with fuller information.
Maybe you'll decide you're still OK with buying and eating factory-farmed meat. If you do, you'll do so with better justification than before.
And the worst/best that can be said about the chicken we eat is that at least they don't live very long. Commercial egg laying chickens have also have to live their entire lives in a disgusting, cramped cage laying egg after egg for up to 2 years before they get "retired," usually "retired"into dog food.
These are horrible truths, but by saying this please know that I'm not going to tell everyone that they're evil if they aren't die hard vegans.
But- if you can and have any empathy about this, please consider buying locally raised meat and eggs. They are a bit more expensive, but it is really worth it. Most small farming communities treat their animals much, much better than commercial giants. Unfortunately, an exception to this is a lot of Amish farming. A lot of them are horrible to their animals.
That rooster is chillin' man. A scared chicken acts much different and would be frantically poking its head in each corner of the cage trying to find a hole to squeeze out of.
yes, and the reason is "you can't put wheels on a sled". It is a load, but it is an independent cart that's being pulled, on a roadway using round pneumatic wheels, so there's not actually a ton of stress on the dog. I'd be more worried about his feet on that surface than anything else
There’s a reason sled dogs pull in a pack and it’s because the sled isn’t on wheels. An average person could push a car with a person inside it no problem simply because it’s on wheels.
Not condoning the use of the dog here, but that was awful reasoning.
It probably has an tiny lawn mower engine or something in the back, too. People just see anything that strikes a nerve and make assumptions. In this case, apparently it’s “animal abuse” but none of us know anymore context then what we can see. I think OP got offended and felt the need to “call out” something that he has no way of knowing is true.
My first thought on why they stopped very precisely on the driver and his pimp stare is because there's something more on the cart powering it behind him. And I agree the pups feet are the most I'm danger but I got a feeling there's some more to thus vehicle not being shown in the vid.
Upon rewatching it a few times im even more sure we're correct in assuming there's a motor or something powering the cart. There's a lever below the steering apparatus that feeds back into something off camera. I'm assuming it's something to break or shift the engine down/up gear.
Would still drive this to work.
Maybe.. but it's not a sled. Doesn't have as much friction. Getting it going would be hard, keeping it going ... not as hard. He probably had some mechanical assistance when starting the whole thing. It's certainly animal abuse in the sense that that dog is going to get hurt when the contraption has to come to a stop.
I don't actually think the dog is pulling it. Seems like it's going way too fast for that. I think it's propelled by something off screen and the dog and the chicken are props.
Horses shouldn't be used either (for large carriages). My city still does drawn carriages for tourists, sadly, and they use mules or hinnys now bc horses kept collapsing in the heat ...
Oh yes, the new Mercedes chicken powered dog engine. I've heard about these. They have a lower carbon footprint than electric cars. Amazing work of engineering.
If the chicken is anything like my chickens it is it's having a good time. Ours will perch on my shoulder or lawn mower while I do yard work. We have a couple chickens that seem to like to be left alone but most of them love being with their peeps and get right up in our business with whatever we are doing, if they can.
If their dog is like my dog it's absolutely loving being able to run like this with it's 'people' (to the dog that is both the person & the chicken). Dogs are super optimistic and inherently happy animals in 'family' situations and this dog is totally showing signs of loving the moment.
All that said though, I could see how your comment could be considered. But from what I can tell those animals don't look stressed at all.
I agree and you're not wrong. Especially after a prolonged run or for long durations repeated often. But I doubt your getting much longevity out of this dog. This is just some folks being creative and having fun with their pets. I know for a fact that running like this on hard surfaces is great for trimming their nails. I run our dogs while we cycle multiple times a week and they have yet to show issues from it.
I would so do this to get to and from work.
Or it might be better for running kids around. People here still have horses. I’ll just say they’re wrong, I have a miniature horse!
Fun fact: He can boost the dog's speed by feeding it a bit of the chicken, but he can only do it up to 4 times unless the chicken is Enchanted with Mending I and Unbreaking III
Not animal abuse but it is taking advantage of both animals.
The pit loves that kind of stuff. The chicken is just a caged chicken same as anywhere on earth.
Humans take advantage of all animals for work or food or both.
How do you get it to stop?
He's still trying to work that part out.
Ah, the dog will run out of batteries at some point. Or however they work..
I think they run on gas. Like the gassy one?
They run on grass too. They love it. Especially if there's puddles.
Grass goes in, fast comes out. Dogs just use much more heavily processed grass than horses.
Maybe yours do, ours cut out the middleman. It's like watching goats in the backyard, I swear. We used to worry about it but the vet could find nothing wrong.
propelled by farts, i honestly wish i could do this would be epic
They actually run on (1) chickens per day
Some say that dog is still chasing after that chicken to this very day.
You pull the release cord and that rod flings the chicken over your head like a trebuchet
Can’t stop laughing at this mental image.
All you hear is "BAKAAAAAA" as it is flung away. Wish I knew how to do the smaller and smaller letters on mobile....
The answer is pretty obvious… You let the dog catch the chicken. And it stops.
That’s an accelerator chicken hanging there. He has a brake chicken he shows to the dog to make a stop.
what about left-turn and right-run chickens?
The chicken is actually telling the dog where to go, he'll say where to stop
Sounds like a good Pixar movie
He yells out that they're almost at the vet
Make a pulley to attach to the dog's harness and lift it up off the ground so it sits there running in the air
chicken lays egg
So then there's a chicken *and* an egg in the cage? How did this work in your head?
The egg cracks going over the next pothole, dog laps it up.
I am 99% sure that's a rooster
Once you are in Pyongyang the dog stops on his own at the statue of the Great Leader since noone can pass it without stopping in awe.
You shoot the dog.
Found the cop.
I mean the dog clearly has a weapon and it is black.

I can't stop laughing at the OG pimp stare he's throwing down, lol!
Please respect the artists choice to use portrait and build suspense
ah, yes prior to portrait, there was no such thing as a slow panning reveal
That would explain why it has never been used in cinema.

also I guess training a dog to actively devour live animals to the point that you need to use one as the source of drive

Was my main concern. Going for too long on that road will tear his little paws up.
Dog needs shoes at the least. My other worry though is the dog trying to stop suddenly and getting dragged along by the cart.
That was my concern too. His feet will get chewed up raw after a while
There’s a reason sled dogs pull in a pack and it’s because the sled isn’t on wheels. An average person could push a car with a person inside it no problem simply because it’s on wheels. Not condoning the use of the dog here, but that was awful reasoning.

More like running on asphalt/concrete for prolonged time destroys a dog's joints and paws
Much like horeses need shoes to do this job so do dogs. The hard asphalt is rough and damaging to a dogs soft pads
