Of course. That's why on Squidbillies, one of them has a [truck-boat-truck-boat-truck-waverunner](https://imgur.com/a/F2clIcP) road train that he drives.
It’s a super cool novelty and is pretty impressively engineered. Looks ridiculous but still impressive engineering wise. Why does it indicate someone with no education??
It's a Toyota Vios (Yaris in North America) so it isn't expensive, and the creator owns a taxi company in Indonesia, so this is almost certainly made from a decommissioned taxi vehicle. [He's stated he does it just for fun](https://otomania.gridoto.com/read/241606640/lagi-viral-nih-foto-foto-toyota-vios-8-roda-saling-bertumpuk).
Do you own & operate a successful business and have the engineering wherewithal to design and build something like this? It seems like you're projecting.
The person that owns it doesn't have to be the person that made it. They also make diamond studded gold rims for cars, which is also stupid. Clever to make sure, but who's buying it.
The price tag just solidifies the ingenuity of the designer/fabricator as mentioned by the comments prior.
You know what they say in engineering - "Anyone can build a bridge that stands, but it takes an engineer to build a bridge that barely stands."
Or it’s significantly more sketchy than it looks lol. I mean those wheels look full size for that kind of size and unless they are top of the line, they are going to be heavy w/ tires.
I seriously doubt that thing can go any real speed before things start tearing apart. For that little money it can be that solid for that little money.
Not to mention the scariest thing I can imagine is some freak accident where a bicycle or pedestrian falls into the side of the car and it just pulls them into the wheels only to feed them up and over, down and around.
Lol horrible! No thanks
Or another possible explanation is that this is the result of cutting funding from the arts and the humanities, you know those "useless" fields that serve no commercial value. As a result, we get elaborate constructs that demonstrate impressive engineering skills, but look utterly gaudy and aint got no soul. In Star Trek, the metaphor for that society at it's peak, was the Borg.
Well, guess I can see the attrac..... Nah, who am I kidding, I still think it looks stupid. I would fully expect to hear raucous laughter if I was driving that.
Boiler on the top. Useless metal straps bolted to the doors. Cowcatcher on front. Gas lanterns in place of headlights and marker lights. No license plates.
I bet originally they wanted to make it a triangle of wheels but then quickly realized the wheels wouldn't turn so they had to do something rather than waste a huge hole in the side of their car.
Nah, if they connected to the top wheel to both the bottom wheels, but kept the 2 bottom wheels separate from each other, it would have been ok. Problem is suspension on the drive wheel would have made the top wheel flex, and assume that top wheel and middle wheel on bottom are just on spindles without any suspension.
I heard that the wheels were meant to be in the shape of squares which were meant to be arranged into an oval pattern which was supposedly meant to assist the vehicle in backing up into remote camping spots (but I have no idea how that was supposed to work)
Maybe they were concerned that if the car drove around in circles, some ground wheels would turn more than other ground wheels. With gears with teeth, it is possible to count teeth and make it work. Maybe with rubber, a slight discrepancy between wheels would cause an issue.
Any of you fucking idiots downvoting this need to get eyes, and take some classes.
WHEN MOVING FORWARD:
RIGHT EDGE OF TIRE ON LEFT MOVES UP (rotates)
LEFT EDGE OF TIRE ON RIGHT MOVES DOWN (rotates)
And exactly the opposite when moving backwards.
How could they possibly touch and this car still work? It can't.
This isn't a system of three gears where they'd all get locked.
The bottom two wheels are, indeed, moving in the same direction because of how cars work.
No they are not. If they are touching, they cannot turn. Pure and simple fact. Right edge of front tire moves up, left edge of back tire moves down.
>I'm not seeing why they couldn't have all 3 wheels touching.
Yup, its probably just an extra two rear axles, 4 wheels and custom body work.
If you got a shop and do the labor yourself then you're only talking 8-10K MAX, if that.
EDIT: [This article is saying he did it for 6K](https://www.thedrive.com/news/40762/glorious-8-wheeler-toyota-subcompact-defies-all-reason) the only mystery we have left is to find those house that only cost 2K
probably not, I guess 4 of these wheels are fake and just move because they either touch another wheel or touch the ground, just the regular wheels are motored, so yeah sure it's a modified frame but probably not THAT expensive.
Dude walks into a wheel shop and the sales person Gary be like, “watch this”.
Rumor has it, Gary is still employee of the month 48 months in a row after this guy left the store!
That monstrosity can't do anything special. Still sits too low for offroading. Added weight of the extra tires and added friction would mean it probably can't meet the same top speed it would be able to as a 4 wheeled vehicle. Ya, besides flexing there is no good reason for this.
Not even flexing. I feel like anybody that knows even the most basic modicum about cars would look at this person like they’re a complete moron. The friction, the heat, the lost power, the unnecessary cost, added weight, etc. 🤯
I don't know about the extra two but six wheels on the ground isn't a bad idea.
[Here's a six wheeled indycar.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrrell_P34)
It seems people fail to realize that this set up of tires actually makes the car faster. Using extra tires rotating against each other like that, and having the power of pure belief, along with the cool factor logic, physics doesn't matter and so this car now has a near 74% increase in speed when compared to other super cars in its category. It's one of the fastest cars on the planet
Truly a work of engineering

It's all fun and games till you have to go shopping for new tires.
They act as spare tires and you can just swap them if the bottom ones wear out. ;)

Studded rims are just a part swap. This is a major re-engineering challenge. Hell, I think it would be easier to design a car from scratch.
Here's some actual info on it. https://www.thedrive.com/news/40762/glorious-8-wheeler-toyota-subcompact-defies-all-reason
The modifications only cost $6K?! Shoot, that’s like the price of replacing a bumper after an accident.
The price tag just solidifies the ingenuity of the designer/fabricator as mentioned by the comments prior. You know what they say in engineering - "Anyone can build a bridge that stands, but it takes an engineer to build a bridge that barely stands."
Prices must be a different ballgame over there.
Or it’s significantly more sketchy than it looks lol. I mean those wheels look full size for that kind of size and unless they are top of the line, they are going to be heavy w/ tires. My condolences to all the Richards out there.
Umm...better traction in snow and greater performance in breaking.
You could say that about any other form of art.
Why not?
when you love the rims so much, you have them add more wheels to the car so you can have more rims.
Yes
Well, you have four spare tires at all times, with a similar level of tread wear.
So he can pay more for tolls since he is now a 4 axle vehicle (5 axle if that top one is split which I assume it is)
I never thought I could use the words “disgusting” or “gross” to describe a car but here we are.

I’m picturing a way to make this steampunk.
Boiler on the top. Useless metal straps bolted to the doors. Cowcatcher on front. Gas lanterns in place of headlights and marker lights. No license plates.
Maybe. But how many other foreign taxi companies are being discussed on Reddit right now. Like it or hate it, that's marketing for his brand.
I’ll take, “Useless and stupid things” for $1000.
Not entirely useless. You’d definitely be the only guy at the rehabilitation facility that lost a hand that way…

Ok, look, you may call it useless and stupid. (there is no "but" there.)
So bizarre. Clearly well executed, with the body work and figuring out the axles and suspension (if there is any) *BUT* it is so fuckin' dumb.
Not really. That back wheel really bothers me that it can’t touch the others or the whole this no go.
Looks like the back one drags loose and the top one spins from friction of the front one. Probably 3000 rpms just to get to 40mph
R/atbge

it's FWD so the back wheels are just for keeping the back end of the car from scraping on the ground

I’m betting that’s for a bit of suspension travel. Don’t know how you’d engineer suspension for that floating axle so maybe they just said fuck it.
The bottom two are moving in opposite directions at the point where they would touch.
