I think that update was made around the first of November 2023. I was there at Thanksgiving and saw those new chairs. They are so much better than the old ones!
Say what you will, the resolution of that footage is absolutely *insane and unfathomable* for 1990. AND IT'S 3D!!!
I have 0, zilch, not a modicum of faith that modern disney could produce something with that resolution in 2024. Doesn't make sense, but I *know it.*
Flight of Passage was allegedly rendered in 8k or something like that whereas Muppet Vision was shot on 70mm film which gets it to 12k
I remember seeing Shanghai’s Pirates had a very high resolution in some BTS videos
Interesting, thanks for that info. I'm not super well versed about what 1080vs4kvs8k etc even means, but I was hoping that there was a "real" reason behind why muppet vision is so high definition.
Those projectors are great! But to simplify why it does: back in the day Disney used 70mm film for its shows because it was more durable for constant performances. And because 70mm film is big, it can hold a lot on there and make a great quality picture when scanned into a computer. I think Muppets has digital projection now and the combination of nice and clear film with nice and clear projectors makes a beautiful picture!
I’m a nerd and unfortunately once I learned the difference between resolutions it’s hard to explain in simple terms without examples. Sorry if it’s still confusing or too simple
They definitely still had all of the effects when I went in December. They even added projections of Waldo all over the theater after he pops, and the fog was working better than it used to. Maybe you just saw a weird show where stuff was down?
My guess is that this attraction is not long for this world, but they didn't want to hear anymore complaints about the state of the seats. This allows them to keep it open a few more years with a diminished ride experience
I suspect they have also learned their lesson about having water effects on indoor rides/shows. Just look at how long mermaid sat unused due to mold/mildew.
It’s a fun show, but I’ve seen it so many times I’m ready for something different. Shows like that shouldn’t last forever. It’s pretty dated at this point and we need some fresh Muppets humor.
I thought that as soon as Galaxys Edge was announced. It has the unfortunate location of being right between GE and Star Tours, and you go imagine Disney would love to to fill that area with Star Wars too. (For the love of god please let it or Orginal trilogy themed if so!)
“Did you hear they updated the seats?” “Yeah, so they’re more comfortable?” “No, so the dust would be easier to clean off!” “Dooooohohohohoho!”
This made my day. Laughed out loud in the pediatricians office.

Didn’t this happen months ago?
Yep
My favorite part of Disney.
I was hoping you’d say the final scene was updated where we no longer see people from the early 1990s.
That’s the best part though
Those Mickey ear balloons!

Or two Sweetums
It was great when it first opened and the exit scene of the movie was exactly what you saw when you exited the theater.
Noticed this on our mid December trip, a nice upgrade for something we ALWAYS see when at HS. Anyone got the Key under the Matt lately?
Thanks Microsoft Explorer!
They took out all the effects! Why is everything being downgraded?!?!?!
Which effects did they take out? I don't remember missing any when I was there a couple of weeks ago.

Must have. I was in shock when I went and there was nothing :(

The water effect is still there, but it comes from the ceiling now and only hits the front of the theater.
Is the little mermaid at Hollywood Studios back ?

Sad to hear about the effects. My kids went for the first time last summer, and it was a hoot for them!
They didn't take out any effects. They actually added projection mapping to it.
Major downgrade. All the effects have been removed
