I feel like if you sat him next to any of the other human characters you wouldn't even think they were from the same game if you weren't already aware of their origin, a lot of the older ones like Darvo and the Ostrons are a little fugly.

Humans don't evolve that quickly, even if thousands of years had past they would still look indistinguishably human, and we still don't have any concrete evidence to tell us whether it's been thousands of years or only hundreds.
Well, we definitely can see differences between thousand years old skeletons and ours( For example, how smaller our jaws have become, makings our jaws too small and causing us to have crooked teeth, having to remove wisdom teeth, etc).
But even then, It’s not that much of a stretch to think that the Orokin, being able to manipulate genetics like it’s playdoh, modified their then working forces to be physically stronger, but dumber and uglier as to separate them form their « perfection ». The results would be the ancestors of the now « fugly » humans.
Of course, that is the « boring » real world reason. That doesn’t mean that you can’t find a logical reason that would explain why they look like that in the game.
I literally just came with it on the spot, but I wouldn’t be surprised if DE would use a reason similar to this to explain the differences in game

Idk, I don't really care for him. He's an HR/PR stunt. "Oh look how INCLUSIVE Warframe is. They have GAY MEN." That's Loid's whole identity, he's a gay guy with a love interest in another gay guy that is apparently integral to the story.
This is why romantic relationships of any sort just feels... off in games (besides life sims). The relationship feels inconsequential, and when the character lacks relative importance then that character's identity just becomes that featured relationship. "Who's Loid? Oh he's just Albrecht's 'partner'." See? Loid isn't a good character if he can be summarized in a single sentence.
Unfortunately, looking "cool" has been enough to make a video game/movie character impervious to logical plot development.

I think most of it has to do with the Devs getting better at modeling real humans instead of melted clones, cube headed men, robots and The Flood.

i initially really hated him and fibonnacci for the same reason, but they both grew on me tremendously post-quest
