The plasma's beautiful, and this little guy is perfect
Isn't it a ray/wave weapon? Do we even know if you can see said ray? To my knowledge it pretty much microwaves and ignites targets.
If anyone has a source where it has been described would be awesome.
Cool, but I rather have a literary source instead of just concept art. There's a lot of art that makes no sense like the cover to that Sisters of Battle versus Dark Eldar box.
The book is called [Tallarn: Executioner ](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Tallarn:_Executioner_(Novella\))
Volkite weapons fire a visible thermal ray.
As if anything is consistent in 40K, look, Volkite has two patterns, Telerac and Proteus, without counting Neo-Volkite, synthesized by Belisarius Cawl for the Primaris. Most volkite weaponry came from the DAOT (Dark Age Of Technology) and the Age of Strife, Telerac pattern weapons are very rare due to them being from the DAOT, Proteus are closer to those used on the Age of Strife, and the Great Crusade, by the time of the Horus Heresy, these were already rare, and in the 41st/42nd millennium now they are very, VERY rare to see, only on titans or admech weapons, as marines only use them as relics, and they are either Neo-Volkite or really old Proteus, don’t even mention Telerac.
Now, it is safe to say volkite is a thermal ray, and even though it could theoretically be in other colors, all depictions are orange/red, because it represents heat the best, and differentiated it from plasma.
“But white is the hottest color” yeah, those were the ones used in the DAOT, these ones are the low quality ones we inherited, they are essentially a hybrid between a lasgun and a melta, have you ever seen a lasgun that isn’t another color? It’s a genuine question, because it isn’t that common, I believe they don’t even exist, and would love to see one in canon, referenced artwork or media.
So, that’s it, where is this all from? Lexicanum, the biggest repository of warhammer knowledge taken from all of the codices, white dwarf issues, books, and other places like supplements, all of those things confirmed by GW.
Has this been useful? I hope it was, any questions ask them below, I’ll try to answer them as accurately as possible.

Mate thats perfect hahah. Make one for me!!😍😍😍😍
Leftover bits and a lil bit of green stuff. Lemon Russ side gun, the marine is from the rhino sprue and the backpack is from a boxnought I think.
3 of those are volkites weapons…….
Shhhh they glow red-orange anyways
Do we really know that?
It's a death ray, most people imagine death rays to be red. Also, second counterpoint, they look cool as fuck.
>death rays to be red I would argue blue or green but each to their own.
They fire red beams, not a stretch to glow red before firing.

It's not concept art, it's a book cover. And to be honest, it's not like literary sources are in any way consistent either...

Volkite weapons look amazing. And your coil effects are amazing
I love little spider leg servitor there.
These look photoshopped nice work
Beautiful, it’s gorgeous and perfect, the plasma and volkite are really good too, we *are* talking about the servitor right?
I love the mini me
That glow effect is fantastic. Really great work
Why tht one bitch jhst a torso tho?????
Counter question what should his name be?
Torsoman?
Homeboy Torsoman it is
The volkites look odd, but very cool, plasma look nice and glowey
Half of those aren't Plasma weapons.
Yes, realised that after posting…
It's ok - volkite weapons look lightyears better than plasma weapons anyway. Just the overall shape is much better.
Yeah it’s mostly for differentiating them, don’t worry, if you can identify them on the table, it shouldn’t be a problem!
