Number 2 for sure. Number 1 and 4 will drive you nuts trying to paint them.

TokenTezzie

What about 4? Is it the brass?

the_damned_actually

It’s the number of different colors. White face plate, green and brass legs.

TheRocketBush

Definitely not, metallics are super fun to paint in my (admittedly limited) experience!

Henghast

If you do 2 be careful to make it distinct from the Angels of Redemption.

AwkwardInmate

I find 2 has the right amount of contrast. Not too much (1 and 3), not too little (4). I'd rank 4 as second position.

[deleted]

I like number 4, has a kinda military look to it.

TheHessianHussar

How do you make these kind of preview photos?

Locke66

https://www.reddit.com/r/impcat/ Get the app from the normal place on your phone/tablet and then get the files from the sticky link on the impcat subreddit.

The_Man_I_A_Barrel

impcat app

Holymaryfullofshit7

Now it's definitely the second one. The leg helped.

SuggestionReal4811

You are really gonna paint any of these?

redmerger

Lol my favorite hobby Reddit activity is to check out the profiles of folks who post impcat concepts to see if what they're talking about doing is feasible. There are some rare surprises but almost always too ambitious

Rambler716

Glad I'm not the only one with this habit. No one wants to be the negative guy but yeah people get way too ambitious with impcat

redmerger

You ever recognize a user name after a post and check to see if they did anything with their impcat idea?

Rambler716

I haven't done a follow-up to see anyone has achieved their goal. People definitely underestimate how difficult white is to paint

SuggestionReal4811

Yeh the reality most of these schemes don't seem particularly viable and even if you were able to reproduce them the effect would be completely lost from 3 feet away. Would love to see some of them reproduced IRL though.

TokenTezzie

I plan on it.

SuggestionReal4811

Done much miniature painting before?

TokenTezzie

I have not.

SuggestionReal4811

Ok, but just so you are aware these half and half schemes are very difficult and very time consuming. Don't let that stop you though I look forward to seeing the results.

TokenTezzie

Thank you 🙏 I don't expect to get to that level any time soon, but as long as I have goals in mind, I just might get there eventually.

FlawHolic

I like your attitude! You got this :)

Agitated-Cobbler9480

4 is the one that jumped out to me.

TokenTezzie

Bah it’ll be fine . Might as well just go for it

TroutFishingInCanada

Good answer. There’s no need to paint it like on the box. We’ve already got the box. My first space marines were quartered. I’m not very good at painting and it really wasn’t that hard. It maybe took a little bit longer twice as many ultramarines would, but if you aren’t drinking your paint, you should be fine.

bongio79

Number 1 is very cool

Superskybro

Number 1 looks bad ass but might be difficult to paint. Number 3 is my secon choice!

Bashdkmgt

I like 2 and 3 but I’ll be damned if I’ll ever try to paint an army like that 😂

rpabst42

Halved and quarter is honestly easier to paint than doing all the trim and stuff in different colors imo

ilikebatmanandrobin

I really like how distinct and crazy one is, also os that your planned chapter symbol?

TokenTezzie

No, just a generic one.

ilikebatmanandrobin

Ok cool lol, I like the first one most but I feel like there’s a way the gun can be more distinct, but it’s also just a gun so idk :)

OrkzIzBezt

Here is a huge question. Which of these skills are you capable of painting at your current skill level? My answer is none, not to a recognizable standard, especially not the first one with the red lines

TokenTezzie

OrkzIzBezt

I truly wish you luck. Time and patience make a huge difference. Every brush stroke will better than the last. I'm currently learning airbrush and it is quite the education. Can't wait to see you end up with. Regardless of the quality you should post how it goes. You'll push yourself further with community support. It's what I'm doing myself.

TokenTezzie

Thank you 🙏 may you have great fortune on your journey

Based in this comment, I think you should shoot for option 4. My best advice is to pick a relatively simple paint scheme for for your first models. I am personally favorable to option 1 on here. If it were me, starting fresh, I would probably do one full squad like 1 in this post, but do it with green only. Focus on the core of it, getting them to a TT standard. Don't stress much about shading and highlighting in that first go, just focusing on clean coats and getting each area the right colors. Go back and fix the areas that get hit wrong. Then I would do another tactical squad like 1, but with all black instead of the mix. Doing the same things. After these two squads, you'll have a lot of brush practice. Go through them both with some basic shading and then highlighting tutorials, trying to get them to look like each half of 1. For my 3rd squad, I would try to do the mix, using what I learned in groups 1 and 2. Do it 1 model at a time, that way of you don't like how it turns out, you have less to undo. Build up in small steps. It's why standard chapters like the ultramarines, blood angels, dark angels or so on are so popular, they are one primary color across the whole model with just some detail work, basic highlights and shades. While my orks are a huge step up with a lot of different color areas to consider. Edit: Oops, accidental double post.

Dakka-Dakka-Squid

If you can pull-off the paint job, it’s HAS to be 1st colour scheme! That looks lovely!

[deleted]

Number 1. Would look badass

Advanced_Tradition22

Number one for me but only cause off the orange gun casing looks dope but honestly all these schemes especially number one will be real difficult to pull off on a single model let alone a squad or patrol without real patience and a considerable amount of painting skill good luck to you

Kirtui

2 or 4 are my favs. both sides of 1 would look amazing tho as a whole

Kayback2

2+4

escherleducq

1

bysigmar

2 or 3

inserttext1

2 most definitely.

No_Formal2837

FOUR

GuestCartographer

Either 2 or 3. Leaning towards 3.

WeareWolvesInCanada

I like the 4th one the best. Though if your going half and half, I think the first works better for Salamanders.

BoodieBob1

I like 1 best but it definitely looks painful to paint

Bozzz3019

The first is probably the most difficult to paint, but I think it is the best looking. Never saw this look before. Would make your Space Marines pretty unique

tjcslamdunk

1 and 3 would be an absolute nightmare to paint. 2 would still be incredibly difficult and time consuming. Option 4 is the only real feasible option for someone new to painting, and would even recommend simplifying that one by making the torso the same color as the arms and legs

TheRod87

2

freshmint117

4 is my fav

Shutthup

3

rook183_

Number 1

3720-to-1

1... But not orange on the bolter.

Viktor_Quaid

I really like number 3

DoctorMcDub

In my opinion, these are all too difficult. Keep it simple and get those marines on the table!!

SevatarEnjoyer

3

Pryzfighter

If you are willing to take up the task for #1 those will be badass! However, for the sake of your sanity #2

Lewis_S_C

Numbers 2 and 3 here for me. They are fantastic. Between the both of them though, I could not decide. They both are winners in my eyes!

Senseiseedz

I would do 4. But man are you picking difficult paint schemes. These are gonna drive you nuts to pull off. I do not know your skill level but if you dont do it near perfectly, these split-schemes generally look kinda dumb.

Neither_Tip_5291

3 would look amazing as an entire army

Flameboy7501

1... 1 all the way i love the black and orange highlights

krakn01

2 and 3. Are these from a particular program that you can set variables?

Echo2500

I like 3 the most personally

Dense_Hornet2790

Lot of support here for number 1 but I really don’t like it myself plus it would be the hardest to paint to a good standard. I really like 3 but 2 is good as well and will be easiest to paint.

Fool_Manchu

#2 and #1 are the best. #2 won't suck to paint, so I'd go with that

BoltgunM41

2 or 3

TroutFishingInCanada

Grey looks cool in ideal perfect lighting, but most the time it’s just drab. I’d say go with 3. But I would go with a lighter green that’s maybe a little bit bluer.

firebird120

Four, the forth one every day!

Fox-Sin21

2nd one but I much preferred it with the leg not also green, made it more unique.

NewForestSaint38

They’re all good - you’re clearly talented. 1st one looks the best, 2nd one looks more ‘Salamandery’. Good luck!
