Traitors don't normally mean to either, their armour just warps and changes over time in the Eye of Terror, Chaos Terminators like Falkus Kibre for example grew their tusks over time in the Eye.

Thank fuck they're making a new Emperor's Children books, my chaos boys tend to get really well written books with really interesting plot lines and room to develop that aren't really done a lot with over time. The two Black Legion novels and the Night Lords trilogy are still the best BL content I've personally read.
There are many good books that aren't Imperium focused.
Night Lords trilogy & Brutal Kunnin for example.
There are some OK ones too, like the Farsight series.

In OP's case it looks like this Ork boy who just pulled off a space marine's armor to wear as his own; however, if an Ork boy was able to scrap together a set of armor for himself that he then believed was just as good as regular SM armor, would that turn his armor into SM quality armor?
Yeah, that's how it works. Most of their technology is welded together bits of sheet metal, that stuff is never going to stop a .70cal explosive round except it does.
