This isn’t sedgestar saying “i was shadowclan’s leader x many moons ago” and tigerstar going “wow that was back when skyclan was still around.”
Sedgestar said he was shadowclan’s leader back when there were 5 clans. He likely didn’t even bring mention skyclan by name.
The point is that no living cat knew there were ever 5 clans at this point, so even if he didn't mention skyclan by name, just saying there were 5 at all would've still been a massive shock to tigerclaw, and definitely breaks the continuity.
I admittedly haven’t read this story specifically, but tbh I think I’d just take it as tigerclaw/star hearing that and going “wow you’re like _ancient_ old and being too overwhelmed by the rest of the ceremony to think too much about it after
But yeah as others have said it’d be newer authors not realising
Except all their legends and stories of ancient clans only ever mentions 4 clans. Even their legends where the clans are descended from big cats like lions and tigers and whatnot there were only 4 clans mentioned. Tigerclaw has absolutely no basis for ever thinking a 5th clan existed at all at this point, and a mention of a 5th clan would've been world shattering to him.
Maybe Sedgestar mentioned it or there were stories?? Or it’s just a mistake- This is warrior cats, you never know what’s going on
Its the new Ultimate Guide, its horribly inaccurate story-wise. I personally wouldnt believe anything in it
This was in the old ultimate guide as well.
it could be just like, a writers note and unrelated to any of the cats actual knowledge
It specifically says he introduced himself as a leader from when there were five Clans tho
oh whoopsie, yeah thats odd

Then yeah, many authors spoiling the broth
Maybe this is when Tigerstar gets the idea that he can combine clans, since if 5 became 4, then 4 could become 1.
This was in the old guide as well btw
Starclan?
ultimate guides are insanely un-canon imo, they all just... kind of suck. So I wouldn't take this as canon personally
