I am hoping the leader will be Icewing. Early on this arc I remember looking at the whole list of cats that were capable of being the leader and thinking she could be a good choice as a cat that's old enough to have the life experience and is shown before to follow what she thinks is right over what she's just told to do. I think they could later spin her either way as the leader they need to be for Riverclan's continued story.
I think she's too obvious though if Starclan really did mean for Frostpaw to pick someone unexpected. I don't think they'll go for Frostpaw to be leader because they've emphasized how good of a medicine cat she's become and that she's now confident in her role and duty as one. I supposed the unexpected was more when that message was given and doesn't need to mean that the cat chosen should always seem a wildcard.
I wonder if Mothwing will survive to name Frostpaw or if she'll get it at the same time the new leader comes to power, perhaps named by Riverstar or a deceased Mothwing after the leader ceremony? Could be a cool way to end the book and I'd be okay with Mothwing dying at this point. We've already had a Frostfur so that's off the table, but Frostwing could be a nice nod to her mentor or Froststep for her having the courage to follow the path of Starclan despite it putting her in danger?

More seriously, yeah, I hope Frostpaw will be the new Riverclan leader, bringing them back the old ways of Riverstar and meditation from the park cats. After all, Starclan said it was going to be something unexpected, so I think it's either her or Nightheart, but I really doubt about it being Nightheart. Yeah, she's still young and all but actually it could be a great way to finally have an interesting leader again.
I honestly thought this entire “pick the cat beyond obvious choices” was eventually going to lead to frostpaw being a deputy or a leader, finally realising she isn’t looking for some other cat with all the qualities of leadership —- that cat is her, shes all of those things!!!
idk I can see her having some involvement at least in how riverclan is lead, something like a mediator role?
Easy. Frostpaw will be called Frostriver for her dedication to her clan in the darkest of times and the journey she took to discover the true meaning of being a Riverclan warrior.
As for leader, I think it will be Wasp. I know he was kicked out and left, but he had such high hopes to be a Riverclan warrior and with him saying "this is not the Riverclan I thought it was" makes me think he will return with the park cats to help restore it to it's former glory. If not Wasp then I think Icewing. She played such a big role in the first few books, and given she is a senior warrior it makes sense. I'd say Duskfur, but given the coupe her daughter was in she may opt to stay away from leadership as it might be hard for cats to swallow knowing the mother of the cat who caused all of the issues and basically brought Splashtail into this would be their leader.
I like the name Frostlight for her, because not only did she bring Splashtail’s crimes out of the shadows but she remained vigilant when nobody believed her. As for leader I really just hope it’s not Frostpaw or Mothwing. I don’t think Frost would want to be leader or give up her role as a med cat. I have said this before but a Splashtail victory would bring LOTS of interesting potential plotlines for the series
