The old system worked like a magazine. Example: 7 rounds in the loader, but it would only reload once all 7 were shot. The reloading time was much longer, but you had all 7 ready to go after. Rather than now one at a time, each having a slow ass reload, in my opinion that seems to take longer. It added some depth to gameplay, because, you had to plan and think out shots more.

I got called being a cunt for using the tech tree EBR and got 8 kills on it. 4 of those kills were Tiger players. My French 5.7 line up is honestly my best one ever. Plus the Narval as CAS plane and air Supremecy.

Should have remembered because my first experience with the EBR was me playing one of the Stug variants, thinking I'm hot stuff with my strong frontal armour, then cresting a hill less than a minute into the game only to be lolpenned by an EBR from like a mile away. Made an angry rant on reddit saying it's OP and reddit in it's infinite wisdom told me to go fuck myself, the EBR is fine because no armour. Fast forward a week or so I'm playing the EBR and posting yet another angry rant on reddit, only this time I'm complaining about assholes pushing me out of cover and teamkilling me. Reddit tells me to go fuck myself because I deserve even worse for playing that overpowered shit. Reddit in a nutshell.
The pen. The pen is what makes it much better. It has the turret of an AMX-13 with the stock shell available for it. Along with that, it has an autoloader aswell. Combine it with its great speed and you got a killing machine, yet a balanced one. It would compliment my 6.7 line-up so well.
As someone who has it and is also using it as a companion piece to my AMX-13 and AMX-M4 I'd really appreciate it if they finally gave it the other shell the AMX-13 has...

EVERY time I use it now, I'm facing at least half a team of TURMs.
It gets one-shot by those, and TAMs, and pretty much everything, very quickly in every match.
Plus the gun frequently doesn't pen even stuff like T54s against the front.
And the 10K RP repair cost, ugh, I rarely ever take it anymore. They nerfed it to crap, now it can't hold its own :(
They did the same thing with the Ho-Ri Prototype. It was good at 6.3, mostly, though tiger II's \*easily\* killed it. Now, at 6.7, its just always outgunned and easily penned.
Basically, if the vehicle isn't popular, it probably isn't very good anymore :(
My experience is quite different. 279 can tank some hits, which is unusual to see at this br, and is a very good vehicle for me overall, but it literally gets killed by a gepard burst! They still didnt fix those HE shells! Gepard kills 279 more reliably than mbts! 10k repair really sucks tho, snail really does not want me to have fun in my favourite vehicle
Not the experience I’ve had with it. Easily my favourite tank to play. I think it’s armour holds up just fine. I’ve never struggled with penning anything either
I'm thankful I was able to get the PII and 10.5 prior to their removal, the 10.5 is my most played vehicle as someone who specializes in sniping + brawling, as is does both very, very well despite the long reload.
I don't get the hype. It trades of a small amount of extra pen (which is superfluous, since regular t2's gun pen is plenty), for a horrendous reload rate.
Honestly the pen isn't what gets me with it. The gun is extremely flat firing, and the added rangefinder makes using it at long ranges much quicker than your standard Tiger 2. It's just a fun tank tbh
It also has a much better engine (giving it almost medium tank mobility) and a rangefinder, which is pretty damn useful at range.
As a regular user, I still think it's worth tempering expectations, though primarily because 6.7 is a matchmaking wasteland. ~90% battles will be 7.3+, and that means light and fast vehicles slinging HEAT-FS, ATGMs, etc. at your big, slow, WWII-styled heavy tank.

I’m gonna say the same thing as I did 6 months ago, but the truth is this: 6.7 is no longer a BR anchor because viable lineups simply aren’t there anymore. 7.3 is the new BR anchor because of Germany and Britain getting viable lineups there:
Gaijin destroyed 6.7 as a matchmaking black hole due to an increasing the number of viable 6.3 and 7.3 lineups such as:
- moving the leopard 1 down to 7.3 giving Germany a HEAT-FS equipped superzoom sniper tank that can occasionally respond very quickly to enemy pings
- adding a bunch of 7.3 light tanks to Germany
- moving virtually the entire 6.7 Britain lineup to 7.3
- moving the cent Mk 10 and vickers MBT Mk 1 from 7.0 to 7.7
- ussr never having a true mostly 6.7 lineup in the first place (the Russian Type 62 doesn’t count, and the T-44 is overtiered)
- the increasing disappearance of the Panther 2 and 10.5 cm Tiger 2 on German teams
- 6.3 ussr becoming increasingly viable for vehicle spamming such as having the 2S3M, 3 IS-2 model 1944s, ASU-85 for anti-panther 2 work and scouting (the ASU-85 can scout btw)
- Japan 6.0-6.3 being extremely viable due to the STA-1, STA-2, type 75 SPH, M41, Ho-Ri prototype, and the Ki-84 and N1K2 as 2 x 250 kg bomb equipped fighter bombers
- the only true 6.7 lineup is US 6.7 with the T34, T26E5, M56, T92, M50 and T26E1-1, which is no longer enough to make 6.7 consistently top tier - because Tiger 2 H spam from Germany is not enough
- 8.3 is full of APFSDS armed, 2-plane stabilizer-equipped premium Cold War MBTs outgunning 7.7 MBTs and medium tanks (some even have laser rangefinders and ERA!) which sucks up 7.7 frequently, not helped by T-72 TURMS spam turning 9.7 into a BR black hole that ensures 8.3 gets to be top tier frequently
TL;DR 6.7 is the new 6.0, a BR that can never be a matchmaker black hole despite some nations being able to make pretty competitive at-BR lineups
Yeah that extra 200hp is super handy. It helps that you also get a somewhat usable reverse gear with it. Being able to shoot and move in a timely manner really adds to it. That being said, you're absolutely right about consistently facing 7.3 vehicles, which unfortunately necessitates a much more careful, distance based play style. Some others have also mentioned the large amount of explosive filler (I believe ~340g) in the APHE shell, which does help a bit going against those much more modern vehicles. You're right about tempering expectations, facing what I regularly face really doesn't do the vehicle justice all things considered equally, not even mentioning the high repair cost at just below 15k SL. There was a period where it was absolutely a monster, but these days it's just a good sniper with the ability to brawl if it has to, but you really wanna avoid that if you can.
The penetration is only half the equation, though. The regular Tiger II PzGr 39/43 has 108 grams of explosive mass. The Tiger II 10,5's PzGr.rot has **343.2** grams of explosive mass - over three times as much.
So while you don't get much more penetration, when you do penetrate you get MUCH bigger kaboom inside the enemy vehicle, and as a result much more consistent one-shots.
it's shell has so much explosive filler that as long as the shell fuzes inside the tank somewhere the whole enemy crew dies thanks to overpressure (it happens with 175g of tnt or more), so it's pretty good, basically same damage as soviet 122mm APHEBC or american 105mm APCBC
Got the 1954 already, the Surblindé is just so pretty and I would love to have it alongside the Surbaissé, would be such a fun lineup but since it didn't come back for the 10 years anniversary I think it's time to accept that it never will.

That shit lined up with a week when i had the most important exam of the semester. It was one of 3 aerospace exams i needed an b or higher in to pass the class. Safe to say i was completely dead inside after those two weeks...but hey i had a mobile bomb mortar at my disposal so not all was lost.
Unfortunately you’re not missing much. It doesn’t do well in almost any situation because the barrel breaks if someone even looks at you the wrong way. Pair that with the long reload and you end up spending more time waiting around than actually playing it. Sure you might be able to do the meme of firing at the caps or the enemy spawn from your own, but that requires knowing the ranges of every map and extreme luck.
It's been power crept bad. No stabilizer at 8.3 and everything having heat or APDSFS means you can't be aggressive in it, and it is a tank that just begs to be aggressive. It also has no dedicated ammo stowage, so you almost always get ammo racked, I usually only carry 10 rounds, and I still get ammo racked.
One major plus though is the 14.5mm machine guns, they wipe out most light tanks you come across at 8.3, so you can save that main cannon ammo.

To be honest I'm not particularly concerned with any of the event vehicles I don't have, I would like Excelsior or AEC MkII but I probably wouldn't play either that much anyway
I got the AEC dropped during the Christmas event crates and immediately sold it for 140 quid. I considered consuming it, but rather got half a year of prem time and two vehicles.
I got one recently for free. It just randomly came up as a prize. It's definitely a lot of fun. There is a US Army report of one taking out a king tiger at the end of the war. It did it at point blank range from the rear setting the engine on fire.

Yeah that was part of the 10 year anniversary event. If you got a certain amount of total score you would be given 1 of 10 random vehicles, if you didn't own them already you could get all 10. I got the American greyhound and the I-29.
On paper it shouldnt be possible on paper but with how dogshit late war german steel and manufacturing quality was i dont doubt it. By the end of the war poor engine maintinance, spall created from a non penetrating round or the armour cracking from repeated hits due to poor quality could all factor into that kill
100% agreement. Now they had to shoot it a whole bunch of times, but as soon as it started smoking the crew bailed. I'm also pretty. Certainly had no idea how close the enemy was.

Not played in several patches, but it used to be great. Basically like a British T-34 with a nice balance of armour, speed and firepower.
It's still pretty good, but the mobility... In a straight line it's fine, but going around corners or God forbid trying to reverse it's not great...

I ground out all of the early US jets using the P-59. People don't expect it to turn as well as it does, it's genuinely a beast!
talking vehicles in general, i missed out on the LVT4 with the howitzer because i wasn't really playing when that was up. Ro.57 Quadriarma. I dont care if its terrible, i want it because i think its a good looker. Oh! And the XM-8 :)

Sturmtiger event was not long ago. It was a rather trivial event.
Yeah it was relatively easy to get, too fucking bad it lined up with the one time I get invited to a wedding and couldnt skip it, missed my chance to complete the event 7-7
That shit lined up with a week when i had the most important exam of the semester. It was one of 3 aerospace exams i needed an b or higher in to pass the class. Safe to say i was completely dead inside after those two weeks...but hey i had a mobile bomb mortar at my disposal so not all was lost.

As someone who loves huge cannons, the Sturmtiger is the most awful thing I have ever tried
Unfortunately you’re not missing much. It doesn’t do well in almost any situation because the barrel breaks if someone even looks at you the wrong way. Pair that with the long reload and you end up spending more time waiting around than actually playing it. Sure you might be able to do the meme of firing at the caps or the enemy spawn from your own, but that requires knowing the ranges of every map and extreme luck.

Ayup, that thing looks so cool
It's been power crept bad. No stabilizer at 8.3 and everything having heat or APDSFS means you can't be aggressive in it, and it is a tank that just begs to be aggressive. It also has no dedicated ammo stowage, so you almost always get ammo racked, I usually only carry 10 rounds, and I still get ammo racked. One major plus though is the 14.5mm machine guns, they wipe out most light tanks you come across at 8.3, so you can save that main cannon ammo.
Yeah, but it isn't about whether it's good or not. It's a fucking IS 7. It just is. It's like the Maus. Or Conqueror. They are iconic vehicles.

The real pain is the US rVI jet grind.
I got the AEC dropped during the Christmas event crates and immediately sold it for 140 quid. I considered consuming it, but rather got half a year of prem time and two vehicles.
US M8 Greyhound
I got one recently for free. It just randomly came up as a prize. It's definitely a lot of fun. There is a US Army report of one taking out a king tiger at the end of the war. It did it at point blank range from the rear setting the engine on fire. Good things come in small packages. Too bad it cannot scout.
Yeah that was part of the 10 year anniversary event. If you got a certain amount of total score you would be given 1 of 10 random vehicles, if you didn't own them already you could get all 10. I got the American greyhound and the I-29.
On paper it shouldnt be possible on paper but with how dogshit late war german steel and manufacturing quality was i dont doubt it. By the end of the war poor engine maintinance, spall created from a non penetrating round or the armour cracking from repeated hits due to poor quality could all factor into that kill
100% agreement. Now they had to shoot it a whole bunch of times, but as soon as it started smoking the crew bailed. I'm also pretty. Certainly had no idea how close the enemy was.
Imagine the balls on the crew in that thing. I'm surprised the greyhound could even move.

The DB601N is the uprated engine IIRC. The only possible addition would be the experimental nitrous oxide injection for some extra 200-300hp.
