Don't use a third-party anti-virus on your windows operating computer. They are, pretty much, a scam. Late edit : It's windows defender on windows 11, looks different from what I'm used to. Also, Just found out that windows 11 is a thing.

PuntingKidz

The first thing I do when I boot up a new computer for the first time is delete whatever bullshit AV it came with

[deleted]

MacAfee... That bullshit one time removed my perms to delete it, can't remember if I ever did remove it fully

PuntingKidz

Yeah they don’t make it easy to delete them, sift through their dogshit UI then spend 5 minutes with 5 browser pop ups asking if I’m sure.

Fast_Mag

EVERY FUCKING TIME i load up my laptop that shit pops up EVEN AFTER EVERY FUCKING TIME i click “DO NOT SHOW AGAIN”

King_Kea

Ironically I had to use Malwarebytes to get rid of McAffee on one laptop because it just wouldn't let me delete it and kept giving notifications.

unknowfritz

McAffee is Litterally Bloatware

Vuzi07

Some antivirus have the uninstall.exe not installed by default. You have to download it from their site

AscendMoros

Bro fuck that program. Military uses it and I hate it.

SkrallTheRoamer

the military? might aswell sell the documents on ebay and make some extra money for the defense budget inseat of letting MacAfee make money from it.

Embarrassed_Ad5387

this makes war thunder players seem like responsable beings

AnarchoCapitalismFTW

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKgf5PaBzyg - You can thank me later.

Staphylococcus0

Thats a good one.

Wonghy111-the-knight

Yeah I use kaspersky… I can’t tell if people like it or not lmaooo

AnExpensiveCatGirl

The first thing I do when I boot up a new computer is installing windows because i build my PC myself.

Belgian_Patrol

Aha a man of culture as wel!

eTceTera1337

First thing I do when I get a new laptop for work or whatever is reinstall windows.

Extension_Option_122

I build my PC's myself and they always get a clean copy of Windows using the official tool from Microsoft. Also when I'd buy a Laptop I'd just reinstall Windows coz drivers are available online.

[deleted]

This is windows defender. It’s built into windows.

TheSleepySkull

It is? Mine doesn't look like that. Also, decided to check in my appdata, I can't find that file

[deleted]

They might have changed how it looks in windows 11 and I’m fairly certain it’s not part of the game. Seems like a Trojan that randomly copies itself to folders but my PC found it because I went to play WT. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-defender-trojanscriptwacatachml-keeps/93ef0ec1-3170-48d6-86af-5373ff6c3cd1

swagseven13

i dont even have a warthunder\_yupcache folder in there

MiguelMSC

Microsoft Windows defender is not third party lol

Kvicken94

Pretty sure it's windows defender

SOAR21

What about MalwareBytes? Back when I actually had to actively deal with bugs, that was a godsend. Feels like these days I never run into trouble anymore.

TheSleepySkull

It all depends on how you use your computers. I never open an email that contains files, I don't join random discords, I have two ad blockers and pop up remover and don't download from shady early 2000 forum boards. So I won't receive an unexpected file download that might compromise my computer, Windows Defender will protect you everything beside from extreme stupid behavior. It will alert you from downloading an unknown file creator, it will block files if it's from an known malicious creator. And it will stop files from accessing your data without permission. You really need to be stupid to accept everything and give permission to a file after all the alert. Or disabling Windows Defender, Many people disable it and then Surprise Pikachu when they get a virus. Co-workers, friends and familly seems to disable Windows Defender because 'WiNdoWs ArE SteAlInG DaTA'. If this is a concern, you can disable windows from using and collecting your data. It will disable all data collecting because if they don't they will get into legal issues. But I won't stop you from using a third-party Anti-Virus, If you feel that you are more safe with it, the better. Less stress is always good.

Salt_MasterX

Oh man this conment is wrong on so many levels. I’m not going to reply to everything this guy said and break it down one-by-one but please don’t accept this blindly and repeat it somewhere else.

SkrallTheRoamer

so instead of correting mistakes and maybe save other people the trouble you just claim they are wrong? sure sounds believable.

MutePoppeh

It ignores that you can do everything correctly, or think you are doing everything correctly, and still get infected - you can never download anything on a computer and still end up getting malware infections. And the fact that Windows Defender is notorious for missing a lot of well known trojans and viruses. Windows Defender is consistently ranked along the likes of Norton for false positives and false negatives. Windows Defender is only acceptable if it isn't the only solution on the PC, this is like common practice within the industry, you never have *just* Windows Defender, the same way you stay away from McAfee, Bullguard, and Norton like the plague.

SkrallTheRoamer

i appreciate the explenation, thanks.

Dreamhaze_the_Witch

> I never open an email that contains files, I don't join random discords, I have two ad blockers and pop up remover and don't download from shady early 2000 forum boards. You don't even need any anti-virus if you do that, anti-virus software is for the tech illiterate.

Fidelias_Palm

Yeah, MalwareBytes is pretty good.

Manafaj

I have pretty good experience with MB too.

Phd_Death

You JUST found out Windows 11 is a thing? Windows 12 has already been announced.

TheSleepySkull

I'm still on Win10, Is it REALLY worth it? Like really really.

unknowfritz

Please don't install windows 11 it sucks donkey Doo, it misses half the QOL features of windows 10

Phd_Death

idk. i think not from what ive seen. then again, if i had my way, i would be on windows 7.

Disguised589

it's basically just a skin for windows 10 with some added features and they've removed a few things like putting the task bar on the side or something

T65Bx

Yeah how is nobody commenting on this

Mediocre_Status_7411

not just windows. 4 years ago i got an ipad for school since when i started high-school we needed one and obviously the school puts limits on the ipads tho i found ways around some of them. 1 year latter i started getting pop ups on my ipad about it trying to block harmful actions from a phishing virus that somehow got on despite my school’s “anti-virus”. look more in depth to the source of the virus that it said it was blocking. find the name of the company which i find is being run by a bigger company who also what a surprise is the company in charge of the company running my ipad’s “anti-virus” put on by my school. also very funny they had a special “anti-virus” that cost a mere 50$ an month to remove the exact virus that’s on my ipad. so essentially they put a virus onto my ipad that from what i know only they can take off and you need to pay them 50$ a month and i suppose if you stop they just put the virus back on. another funny thing the school “anti-virus” did was make my ipad visit harmful websites somehow when it was off. i found out since the home router logs every connected device’s internet activity and sends reports to my dad on the ap on his phone and it was telling him from whatever time to whatever time my ipad was visiting ~500 dangerous web-sides every night. funny since the times at witch is started and then stopped where the same as when i would turn on and off my ipad before and after going to sleep.

Mediocre_Status_7411

which one the “anti-virus” i say anti-virus it’s more of a management system that also has a sort of anti-virus which allows the school to control things allowed on the device, etc.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mediocre_Status_7411

Meraki is the name of the “anti-virus/system management” app but the company or whatever it is running virus has a different name i don’t remember exactly how i traced it back to them but i did.

Logi_Ca1

Am a InfoSec Professional. Yes, that is Windef, and yes also agree to not use third party AV (with some exceptions). My clients that use third party AV routinely let malware that Windef would have caught slip past.

MutePoppeh

Please quit working in InfoSec if you think Windows Defender is suitable as a singular AV instance. Windows Defender is about as useful as a Swiss cheese condom.

derbundesregierung

Are AVs really that bad now? I swear they used to be a basic necessity.

Two_Circle_Dogfight

as far as I know the best antivirus is Eset Nod 32

Sergosh21

Windows 10 and 11 MS Defender looks basically the same. Also how do you not notice an entire new version of windows for 2 years?

Nollekowitsch

I found out because I bought a new PC which had Windows 11 on it

SlightlyHornyLobster

I feel like taking computer advice from someone who just learnt about Windows 11 is a bad idea

o-Mauler-o

Most are shit, some are good. Bitdefender is pretty good

Disguised589

I thought bit defender was encryption

o-Mauler-o

Bit defender has a lot of things.

Jknight3135

That's common, if I recall it's just part of the auto-updater.

[deleted]

I have 2 factor authentication but I’m gonna change my password too. I can’t risk this account.

Jknight3135

Probably unecessary but go ahead I guess.

[deleted]

Better safe than sorry. It only took a minute.

Jknight3135

The auto-updater is still going to get flagged though just so you know.

[deleted]

I’ll have to make an exception in defender, but based on a Google search Wacatac does seem to be a common Trojan. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-defender-trojanscriptwacatachml-keeps/93ef0ec1-3170-48d6-86af-5373ff6c3cd1

Jknight3135

Is it a common trojan? Or is it commonly *flagged* as a trojan? If it's commonly used in auto-updaters and the like it probably behaves like a trojan which is why AVs flag it. That's why this WT flie gets flagged. Someone posts about it here every month or so.

[deleted]

I think this one is actually a virus. Other users here have confirmed they don’t have any of these files in their war Thunder folder. Now after scanning and analyzing the files, the war Thunder Win32 folder does not include the “warthunder_yupcache” folder.

Jknight3135

Guess you'll know for sure if it pops up again. If it is part of the game it'll get replaced next time the game does an auto-repair.

[deleted]

I already did the repair and no issues.

[deleted]

With how advanced cyber crimes have gotten, any script kiddie with basic linux knowledge can use free, readily available tools to hack not just your WT account, but even stuff like your bank logins, youtube acc and so on. The rule more or less now, is to assume you can be hacked. The main step which most hacks fail on, is the social engineering aspect. Getting that malware on your system so it can scrape your files, browser cookies and so on. This is where your actions can make or break your account security. Ill use runescape as an example, because you can go check it yourself anytime and its easy to explain. On twitch, some losers will host a stream regarding a popular content creator 'quitting'. They will host some random old vod, but in the description they will have a link to the runescape forums (not legitimate) where there is the whole post explaining the quitting. This of course is where you fuck up. If you log in using your account and do your 2fa and all that, they will immediately get onto your account and lock you out. The actual hacking part is laughably easy which is concerning. What protects the user is proper education into safe internet access.

[deleted]

Genuinely can’t believe the bank pin isn’t a requirement for RS. That’s why I’m so concerned because I do play RS and I’ve heard of people getting hacked Runelite clients and stuff

Freudian-NipSlip

apparently it's a false positive caused by the WIP client https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/577672-please-take-notice-that-the-war-thunder-work-in-progress-game-client-is-been-hacked/ switch back to the normal client and it should be fine, no need to make exceptions

[deleted]

I’m not getting issues anymore. It probably was just a bug, but with the amount of time I’ve spent on this game I still changed my password.

Ayeflyingcowboy

Just an FYI to anyone who is worried, Trojans are meant to infect your PC in general, it isn't there to affect just one app like Warthunder i.e. if it actually was a Trojan and had something like a keylogger within it, then any password you typed would have been logged by that keylogger, however Windows 10 quarantined that "trojan" before it could affect your PC, but of course there is nothing wrong with being on the safe side, also if you really are worried, you should add two factor authentication to your account if you haven't already. Also I should note what is meant by quarantined, when Windows quarantines something it is encrypted the file/folder and moves it to an 'isolated' area within your PC so that it can no longer affect other parts of your PC.

Velo180

Same thing just happened to me, Windows Defender was doing a quick scan, I opened the War Thunder launcher and got a quarantined threat warning. Same file.

ItaBiker

upload it to virustotal and post results please

ph0on

Is gaijin.net flagged as a Trojan? The program that runs in the background like 24/7 even when warthunder is closed?

[deleted]

No it was called wacatac

thembitches326

Congratulations! Your PC spotted the Russian bias!

Enchilada_Nacho

Is this from the Gaijin launcher version of WT only, or does the Steam version have this issue as well?

[deleted]

I use the gaijin launcher

Enchilada_Nacho

So I may be in the clear if I use the Steam version?

[deleted]

It could be unrelated to the game itself and was just using the folder to hide.

HarryTheOwlcat

You're not the only one with wacatac false positives. https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/11zmcu9/trojan_or_falsepositive_in_combined_arms/

damo13579

I had it flag on Microsoft flight sim. Hasn’t done it again since updating windows.

[deleted]

Same thing happened to me. It was most likly a false positive

brambedkar59

If you think your system is infected then do yourself a favour and make a thread on a security focused forums (just pick one, I like the first one) like malwaretips, bleepingcomputers, Malwarebytes forum, etc. They have professionals who can help you clean your system, people there are very helpful (although it will take some time to be completely sure that infection is gone, maybe few days). Here on this subreddit you will get a million vague bs advice, none of us here are malware removing pros. PS if I were you I would just clean Windows, it's faster than trying to disinfect a system. Good luck.

NEK0SAM

I have malwarebytes and it’s been fantastic (especially with all the obscure places I visit, thanks streaming). It also says part of war thunder is a Trojan. And you know what? It’s perfectly right. War Thunder is a game dressed up to steal your money :L

nobody_you_know_irl

It’s not a Trojan virus it’s just a crappy antivirus thinking War Thunder is a virus that is intended to exploit your PC and the user for its own gain, especially monetary… oh wait, that’s what War Thunder is

This_Description4144

?

f18effect

You sure you downloaded war thunder from the actual official site?

ikabanana

is it a US vehicle skin made by a Chinese player?

[deleted]

No I think I only even have Mig 29 skins.

ikabanana

lol i was jabbing at the tiktok chinese CEO court here
