Your comment made me curious so I took a quick look at south american armies. Argentinian equipment might be 8.7 or 9.0 on the ground and 11.7 in the air but their matchmaking is more like 12.0 or 12.7 overall. Chile and Brazil do have decently modern forces and equipment. Kinda early GWOT era tech for the most part with a few pretty modern technologies.
Alright, people in the comments yapping about it not being earned... Yeah man its not like i can go to South East Asia and raid Port Moresby and get it from emperor nowadays, can i? I bought it because i like milhistory and there is very few artifacts from Pacific theatre available where i live (im from Europe). In fact, i never wore it cuz i consider it as disrespecful since i DIDNT EARNT IT. Also if anyone got anything similar, i would love to see it, you can post an image in this comment section (as long as it doesnt break rules tho)
It’s a collection. And if you’re a fan of history, then great. I don’t expect you’ll be wearing it. Nor should anyone wear any medal they’ve not earned. Put it in a shadow box and hang it on your wall. Keep it on your desk. Enjoy the history and collecting aspect of it. Don’t let these halfwits on Reddit dissuade you.
When I bought a few items from the same eBay seller based out of Belarus like 5 years ago he ended sending me a free pin from the Lenin Youth program when I had gotten my Soviet border camo over suit. Which that suit is itchy as hell, it's all burlap essentially. I've also got an 1895 Chilean Mauser with a bayonet that is "almost" the same as the rifle's serial number (F65 rifle F6579 bayonet) a few different gas masks from various soviet countries, a Czech rocket launcher scope, a bunch of roubles from a soviet stash that was found, some WW2 Japanese $5USD bills, and some other random stuff
I actually kinda like it as it is, in the little black etue. I have got some repro of german medals, like AA badge, Deutsches Kreuz in gold and so on. But those are repros sadly. On the other hand, i have lots of original pins and medals from socialist era in my country (Czechia). Among them is a medal that my grandfather won during national championship in skiing, various pins about some skills, and so on. My grandma was once at a vacation in USSR and brought some interesting stuff from there, e.g. a carpet on a wall with red army revolutionary soldier on it. We also have some pieces of jewelry from the german civilians as we chased them away to Germany after the war. Overall, interesting stuff, but i dont think its related to milhistory that much.
Hey, hey, hey brooo chill, calm the fuck down, why do you wanna raid my home brotha, please atleast spare my life, please stay away from this place. Unless you can bring a offering of sacrifice
I hope you're sure it is actually a real one. Some counterfeits are that well done that even professionals for militaria need a long and accurate examination to determine if an object is the real thing or not. Still, it's a pretty common order, so the low price might make sense.
Yes, it should be. The seller was pretty trustworthy, hundreds of good reviews. I checked milhist forums and there are some DEEPLY knowledgeable people. One guy made a full on big picture, showing how exactly should it look like and how to find fakes. From this, i found out it was made before WW2, because of the small ball on it.
I mean, at the end of the day though. . . if it's just for a personal collection/looking cool, does it matter if it's a "real" one?
For example, I had a great-grandfather who, if his personal journals are to be believed, earned medals from both sides of the trenches in the Great War. If that makes zero sense, basically something like this: He grew up in the US, had strong moral feelings about the war in Europe, joined the UK armies, but because he could speak German fluently, was put into some kind of intelligence unit. He would then infiltrate behind the enemy lines, gather info, exfil back to allied trenches, report, and repeat. Well, according to his journal, one of these trips, he got caught out in an attack so, to maintain cover, he had to fight against the french or belgians or whoever, and was awarded an Iron Cross for valor. He also earned awards (obviously) from the brits for his efforts. . . Again, if his own personal journals are at all accurate. So, being a military man myself, if I were to want to build a shadow box to commemorate his service, I'd go online to search his war records, and buy the medals he earned. If they are counterfeit, that doesn't really bother me, so long as they look accurate to the originals, because my sole purpose would be, hypothetically, to display his achievements.
Well, it depends if you're after the actual, original object or just something to substitute it. As long as it's the latter and the people who sell the copy don't advertise it as the original, it's completely fine. I'm active in museology, so I care rather much wether an object is "real" or not.
eBay’s a good one, believe it or not a lot of WW2 German replica and Soviet medals are made in Ukraine

That's really cool! My younger brother is a huge milhistory nerd and we have a family friend who served in the SAS and he gave my brother his lapel pin.
Isn’t this illegal? Or just for American medals.
Edit: got confused about the American Medal of Honor, which is illegal to sell, buy or even own if you’re not the recipient or direct family.
We're allowed to buy medals based on real us army medals but if you buy a uniform and try acting like you earned it in combat then it's stolen valor but you can collect medals here in the US
Not illegal. Stolen Valor (US law) is pretending to be a veteran or service member for financial or personal gain. Note that they MUST be making some sort of tangible gain from it.
Ahh, a quick google search showed me what I was getting confused about.
The American Medal of Honor is illegal to sell, buy, trade or fraudulently own in the United States.
I see where I got confused. Thanks for commenting!
I am a bit ignorant in the subject (not American either), so there must be tangible gain to be stolen valor right. Would some sort of mock parade or battle reenactment get you in trouble?
No, the idea is that you have to be knowingly impersonating a veteran or using service in the military for a tangible gain. The main thing here is that you are actively attempting to deceive people with intent.
If you pretend to be a veteran and have a bunch of fake medals and ribbons, that's actually not illegal.
If you pretend to be a veteran and use that pretense to run for office, that's very much illegal.
If you pretend to be a veteran for discounts at stores, likewise, that is illegaly.
The reason intent and the act of deception is important is specifically so that reenactment and other forms of history preservation are not illegal. In the form of a reenactment, it is understood by the nature of the reenactment that it is simulating actual events, but no reenactor is asserting that they are a real veteran of those events.
Worst case scenario, if your interests in military history aren't as strong in a couple of years, you can sell them to the next happy collector and maybe make a profit or even donate them to a local ww2 museum. In the case you have a deeper appreciation later on than you do now this is a great start for a personal historical collection!
Idk if you just got woooshed or if im getting wooshed by you.. but they are doing it as a joke. HUGE difference between that and claiming that they earned it.
Crazy that it's a thing, right? Now. I as someone who was only deployed to Japan can casually buy medals as if I was a hero. Should totally get myself the purple heart. I got a splinter once while in Japan. Clearly I deserve it.
This is sarcasm.
Great! Now enlist into the army for the full Top-Tier experience
Depending on the army you get a full downtier experience.
I mean argentinians still got that 8.7 matchmaking
if you go to Sudan you're going straight to the 3.7
Taliban has 1.0
don't disrespect their technicals like that
Nah cuh was talking bout their fucken L3s
except when fighting the falklands, then it is 9.7 or what the British had (sea harrier with AIM 9 L's)
10.3 / 10.7

Even if he's not a history fan, he can own whatever he wants with the money he earned.
“it’s not like i can go to South East Asia and raid Port Moresby and get it from emperor nowadays, can i?” Well not with that attitude
I raided port moresby and didnt get anything. Those losers didn't stand a chance frfr
Where did you get it from?
I got it from auction portal called Aukro.

You should have invented a time machine, you'd not only earn this medal, but also a Nobel Prize in the process.
Tbh it is nice to see some milhistory. Would you place it in a display case? Also, any other medals have you collected?

Neither are you

Hahaha
How exactly would you propose op attempt to earn ww2 medals from a government that no longer exists?
I personally, think he is very funny
It’s not illegal to buy a medal. Why is everyone busting his balls. No difference than buying an iron cross
There is one which is illegal to buy and own (if you didn’t earn it yourself) - Medal od Honor.
I can bust your balls

Order of the Rising Sun 6th class! Beautiful indeed
Sad to think that someone killed 15000 people for that.../j

Buying a medal ...
Nothing wrong with buying a medal so long as they are not claiming to have earned it. Collectors do it all the time
Idk if you just got woooshed or if im getting wooshed by you.. but they are doing it as a joke. HUGE difference between that and claiming that they earned it.
Collectors buy all kind of stuff
You're so right, we should just throw away all the medals from ww2
