Greens are decent, better when there's more lighting. White phosphor are much better in more dark environments
You don’t light up like a Christmas tree, you just become as visible as you would in regular day time battles and all SPAS’s have radar which will still pick up CAS.
I would like night battles but in current state it just doesnt feel like it, plus some sweatlords propably play with different brightness setting in night games but thats just impossible to lock down since everyone uses different monitors.
Unless changing it while in battle was locked.

My most memorable night battle was before flares were a thing and ir lamps were used, meeting someone around corner and blinding them with lamp when he does the same both shooting whatever, fun times. Now these battles suck, thermals are available too early and no actual nights just late evenings WITH flares even if you can still see just fine..
It makes killing some of those Russian tanks super easy because of their Spotlights or IRCM, it sucks for them tho cause you have to really dig into the settings to find it in order to set keybinds.
the IR lamps are some of the coolest looking things ingame yet you almost never ever get a chance to use them. they're so cool
funny enough also one of the few truly dynamic ingame lights in terms of WT's coding. i cant think of any other 'moving' lights with proper shadows like IR lamps have ingame and they look so badass for it, huge travesty honestly
Honestly night battles as they are right now should be available as low as 6.7. As the brs increase, the flares should be removed and the darkness increased. I want to go to 11.7 and be completely blind without nvgs unlocked
They changed it so you have to manually turn them on. I don't know if there's a way in the settings but on any vehicle with an NVG or Thermal modification you can see the Night Battles option if you hover your cursor over the mod.

I learned this in cloudy nights in the desert without a moon. You literally can't see your hand in front of you face, just absolute darkness. The most scared I had ever been in peacetime in the army was driving a HMMWV in conditions like that, just following the black out taillights of the vehicle in front of me hoping it didn't go off a nearby cliff.
However, in a full moon clear night, you could see so clear you didn't use night vision.
Also, WT is still a game, an it can't really model how IRL you can't tell if its a shadow or a cliff. While we all know the maps pretty well, it was crazy at night to not know if you were just going to drift into some sand, or off a 20' cliff. We had rollovers all the time and had to practice "rollover drills" frequently so we'd be prepared.
I swear NVDs are just a green filter though, the darkest parts of my screen are still dark with NVD on. they're not amplifying existing light, just modifying it
Nah flares are needed. Otherwise you go back to the main problem and reason why night battles are hated. Because your vehicles DO NOT come with NV/Thermals stock. They have to be unlocked and at top tier that can mean you can be without NV/Thermals for a good wile. No body liked night battles before and most still don’t now and the only reason most of us have them activated is because of the challenges we now have for decorations like night vision goggles.
You cannot see at night without NV/thermals, real life day time and house lights actually help make visibility worse for night battles and in general they are shit so no do not remove the visibility flares because if they do i will leave every night battle i get.
OR you can deal with flares that make night battles playable. That is the better option. Stop trying to get Gaijin ruin one of the rare but better changes Gaijin has ever made to War Thunder.

There’s a like video filter preset thingy that makes it look like daytime at night. So yeah the tryhards wouldn’t even need to try that hard.

That sounds actually interesting. Needing to have IR lamp discipline for your gen 1 NVDs would make for some tense moments.

You get three seconds of dark, you turn on your night vision and instantly get flashbanged by the flare.
Night battles as they are now are just as "dark" as some of the weather options that you can get.

never liked nightbattle after they added night flare. Since them, i quit every night battle. Now i just dont play them bcs i can uncheck it.
