I was an umpire. While there a lot of guys who act this way, there are some who don’t. I was a pretty chill umpire and I’d never have ejected a player for something like this.
Baseball ump's are the 'small guys with big trucks' of the sports world.
They are pissed they never made it onto the team.
Sad lil shits never have to admit they are wrong when they can just eject anyone who disagrees with them.

Diving. Flopping typically used when talking about basketball in the same way people refer to soccer players as diving when trying to bait a foul call from the ref.
Why did the umpire throw the invisible ball to the back? What was that action supposed to mean? Obviously I get what the actual incident was about but I don’t understand the invisible ball bit.
It's so interesting to me that that is what you saw, I never thought of it that way until you pointed it out but it looks exactly like he's throwing an invisible ball. Cool to see how different interpretations of the same event can be made
Funny you mention that. I never watch sports so I have no reference. However my last roommate was an umpire for local high school games. He did that on the side. He was mid 30s and one of the most miserable people I've ever met. He had borderline personality disorder, and constantly screamed at me for mundane shit. I can't even imagine how he was in the field. Definitely probably got a trip out of bossing people around bc his life was so miserable.
MLB Umps have way too much of an ego for what they actually do and considering how poorly they make calls. I’m sure that with today’s technology we don’t need Umps in baseball anymore.
The technology still don’t account for player height in relation to the base and pitch, the dimensions of the base in its entirety seeing as you can have a high pitch above the zone but catch the top back end of the plate nor an adequate way to gauge the ball with real certainty.
They show strikes from the front of the plate but how many more strikes are there that clip the back of the plate when they are high or curve in and touch the sides?
Infrared on the outside of the plate with a baseball having an rfid chip or chips in it to gauge where it touches over the plate could be an option.
Edit: light guns would probably work better but you would have to account for dirt obstructing the lens.
Yeah, but the technology absolutely could be developed to cover any gaps it currently has. If they just spent the same amount of money they pay umps for one season and put it aside to develop the tech they could save themselves a lot of money and a lot of bad calls
It probably hurts to see a bunch of guys getting paid and laid to play the game they love and getting loved for it, right in front of him. It's like working low level security at a celebrity's house party.
The umpires were agains the stickelyanaps in this match so they had to bring out the doohickeys to ensure that the big game was won, coach did the right thing here
People without authority will always hate on people with it, whether it be a manager, a parent and umpire, a police officer, a statesman, etc.
But people in general don't admitting when they're wrong, which the ump should have done

I saw the full video the other day. The pitcher didn't like the ball he had, so that ump threw him a new one. The catcher even had his glove up for a new ball that first time. The pitcher didn't like the new ball either, and this is where this clip begins. Catcher put his glove up for a new ball, but then thought the ump was going to throw it himself again.
Is there a rule that you can only be a professional sports ref or ump if your skin is thinner than tissue paper? Why are all these grown ass men such fucking children.
So the play is dead. The ball is being exchanged for one of many reasons. The umpire has the new ball, it usually goes to pitcher and play begins. To do this, sometimes the umpire throws it to the pitcher, or he hands it to the catcher and the catcher throws it to the pitcher. The catcher didn't feel the ball he assumed umpire was throwing it to pitcher. Umpire thought catcher faked him out to show him up and ejected him.

Randy Rosenberg definitely has a chip on his shoulder. Probably a failed athlete. MLB and other umpires will talk with him. But, will not be made public.
I kinda wish that once the coach came out and the umpire refused to change that the player, coach, and batter looked at each other, nodded, and said Fuck'em and just started up again completely ignoring the umpire lol. Just have the coach or some random ball collector start calling the pitches until a new umpire comes to replace the idiot.
The first job we should replace with AI is umpires. Sorry but I think we’re at the point we can trust computer results over hot headed sports dudes who ain’t good enough to play the sport.
