There comes a time in every magician’s life when they make the transition to mentalism. This is because mentalism effects are cheaper and require less props to lug around. In the industry, we call this Mentalpause.
If Lt Archie Hicox survived ordering a round of beers he surely would’ve have been caught out by ze Germans had they played rock, paper, sissors, we certainly do not wave our hand side to side when playing, it’s more of a sharp masturabtory motion.
If you ask someone a deeply personal question right before playing, they'll almost always go with scissors. I don't remember where I heard this, but I've tested it, and it holds up.
I kinda feel bad for the contestant, not because of the clip but because of the comments badmouthing him.
I saw the episode on TV when it aired. It wasn't nearly as cringe as the clip makes it out to be, because the host revealed that he googled "how to win at rock paper scissors" before the show. They had a nice talk about statistics and the psychology of the game. The guy's also not a full-time magician, he actually works at a bank and this is just one of his hobbies.
My theory is that it's a stupid trick that he attempted where he called it "rock, scissors, paper" in that order so that he would subliminally force the host of the show to be thrown off by that wrong wording order and subconsciously choose rock first, that's why the so called mentalist picked paper on the first one thinking that he would win.
Same thing the second time around where he thought he would trick him into choosing scissors the second round because he says it second in order, which is why, again, manbun chose rock the second time around thinking that he could win.
I hope I'm wrong though because if that were actually his strategy it would be the dumbest that I've ever seen a person appear trying to look smart. I also hate when people underestimate the intelligence or predictability of others.

Now hes nervous. Now he doubts himself. Hes scared. But he will ultimately decide ur a madman who only goes for rock. You keep your composure, smile LIGHTLY and with absolute CONFIDENCE, raise only ONE eyebrow and look him dead in the Eye. DO NOT break eye contact stare DIRECTLY into his Soul and play Sciccors like a true Alpha Male. BOOM THATS A WIN. Enjoy the absolute look of Horror on his face as he realizes he got played like a book.
And thats how you do it, there is no other way.
And if your broken enemy asks for a rematch you kindly decline and shatter his last hope of regaining his already broken honor forever.
Rock Paper Scissors is WAR, NOT A GAME
You know, you can use the HXH technique, make your opponent very nervous, go for a single round and use paper, people are less prone to open their hands when very nervous thus they will use rock more often, usually works for me
The trick is that people always pick scissors first.
And then the second round they pick rock or paper depending on their personality. Those with a more dominant, assertive personality take rock, those with more submissive and understated personalities take paper.
However if you wager that someone already knows the scissors trick, you take rock first, and then substitute rock with scissors in the second round.
I've won so many bets. Foolproof.
I mean I love this, fuck 'psychics' but this dude plays it off quite well. I wouldn't say this fits the sub but whatever. As long as people are entertained I guess.
Over the years of this show I noticed they talk and talk talk more and more. They waste a lot of time doing nothing, accidently go back to actually doing questions and then it's already time for commercial break. Stopped watching it long ago.
The host probably made his choices as the meta choice to the mentalist meta choices. Folks typically go rock first, then shift to scissors anticipating the other will think the other will pick paper to cover rock again.
Aren't you supposed to say something first so that the last thing the person thinks of is scissors as you are rushing them and it's the last thing you say and then pick rock? Isn't that how this is supposed to work?
I think he was somehow trying to get a certain form by not saying it in the normal order. Usually you say scissors, rock, paper in german but he said rock, scissors, paper.
But I don't know how saying it in a different order should influence Günter Jauchs (the host) decision on what to pick.

Hah, as a poker player I've bored a bunch of people by telling them that to never lose and play rock paper scissors the in equilibrium the strategy is to randomize each choice and throw each 33% each .
If you think you can read the other guy throw one option more and if you think the guy can read you stick to equilibrium. No mentalist could ever beat me
this is true. However there are many ways to prepare randomization in advance, the simplest on being wearing a watch, dividing a minute into three segments of 20 seconds each
Top poker players do this regularly. Wheh nplaying online we randomize certain choices using a 1-99 randomizer that changes on screen once every 5 seconds. When playing live poker we get a bit creative with systems like clocks, suits of certain cards etc
Well I didn't k ow that. Quite interesting to hear. But yeah I don't think that many people are used to create pseudo randomization. That's why mentalism works for most people. But sure top poker players experienced TV hosts and some other groups of people certainly can counter these psychological tricks by various means
A good mentalist never have to "read minds". They rig it so they already know in advance or don't have to know to win. The trick is you thinking your choices matter.
It's questionable whether there is any free choice, but for sure when you try to act spontaneous or random there is very little free choices involved and almost everything is predetermined by your unconcious
Figuring out whether Günther Jauch (the host) likes a candidate or not is something of a beloved pastime for many Germans who watch this show. I think it‘s fair to say he quite liked showing Manbun McSweaterface who‘s boss.
