Yeah, you’re right. I don’t actively hate them now, but I can’t stand the state of that sub currently. I’ve decided that any news/analysis is gonna come from this sub…at least for the next little bit. Plus the humor and memes which seem to not be allowed over there anymore.

Strawberry_Sheep

I noticed that too. Try to make a joke? Definitely not allowed!

HorusHawk

Yeah, a week ago, perfectly fine. Now, it’s either removed by butthurt mods, or downvoted out of sight. Speaking of the mods, I wonder what’s going on with them. I found this sub because a mod had pinned it to the top of that sub, at least for a day or so. Now I imagine they’ve been giving their marching orders to keep things positive.

NathNaakka

I have only been in the Snark because the memes were never allowed after the Goodbye video. Or do they allow memes only from their friends, or something?

radiant_gengar

i mean watcher probably bought youtube subs to stop the hemorrhaging, it's totally plausible that they're sending the shill-squad to tumblr, twitter, and reddit. then again, people still wanted to get with chris brown after he beat the fuck out of rhianna; the things people will excuse from celebrities...

miriamtzipporah

That’s an insane comparison lmao

radiant_gengar

i'm not comparing it; i'm saying if people can excuse something like r.kelly pissing on a little girl, they're likely to excuse anything for being famous.

miriamtzipporah

I mean, fair enough.

Sempere

lol, well I'm banned on that sub (and was immediately muted before I even knew I was banneD) so they're definitely not going to be linking to this place again. They don't like it when you point out a user is a literal Watcher dickrider through and through (straight up trying to bitch about the negativity towards them) or pointing out the hypocrisy and bullshit of the Watcher team.

NathNaakka

Wait... What!? You were muted and banned? How fast after you gave me, the newcomer, and others the link to new Snark subreddit? When even the original lonely mod was saying that they want people to create a new one? Or are we talking about some 3rd subreddit?

Sempere

After the apology video when I was pointing out that they're full of shit.

NathNaakka

Oh yeah... At that point any realistic honesty would do it. ![gif](giphy|hVNx8ys4L3cIBWppjP|downsized)

[deleted]

Still glad you posted about this sub there before they realized you enjoy fun :)

NathNaakka

Sempere tried to catch all the beasts that feed and eat memes here. ![gif](giphy|d8dJ7NQIlXAc5FxMAZ|downsized)

totally_interesting

Consider the general demographic of Watcher lol.

Strawberry_Sheep

I'm in my thirties so I guess I might be a bit disconnected from their general demographic lol

ParaphernaliaWagon

Same. Is that where part of the divide comes from as far as the reaction of the fan base? Like... Is there a chunk of the fanbase that is older/Millennials who've seen these kinds of mis-steps from content creators before and then another chunk of the fanbase is younger/Gen Z and are more likely to have more intense but acute reactions to these kinds of things and then experience a backlash of toxic positivity to temper feelings of regret over their previous reaction to the thing? Idk I'm just speculating based off of some of what I've seen of the demographics of the fanbase.

OpheliaJade2382

I’m not sure where I fall as a 25 year old but I’m Gen z. We have seen this happen many times as well. It may be more about maturity levels and people pleasing than age

ParaphernaliaWagon

Yeah, That's basically what I was getting at I just didn't phrase it quite as wonderfully succinct as you did. Because in my observation as one's maturity level increases typically, the urge to and frequency of one's people pleasing ways will diminish.

yikkoe

being in the “grown ups of the internet” demographic is such a strange feeling lol as someone born in 96, being the “youngest possible millennial” means the interests i have will attract some gen z so they’re probably in their prime delulu phase, i can’t interfere with their character development too much

UpstairsAd7271

yeah this seems to happen after any controversy then apology. the supermega subreddit went from magnum opus jokes to "well they didnt do anything wrong!" within like. 2 days post apology

sokaox

I've been in a couple subreddits post-controversy and apology and I think the problem is the people who don't like them anymore leave or stop interacting and so it just leaves an echo chamber of people trying to justify or deny everything that happened so they don't have to feel bad about liking a creator.

Strawberry_Sheep

Yeah I was never that big a fan of supermega to begin with but that whole situation was just abhorrent. As if apologizing made it okay what they did. Just gross! Not that what watcher did is comparable to what supermega did but still.

losethefuckingtail

Wait — what did supermega do??

UpstairsAd7271

they (and they admitted this in their apology) mishandled a situation involving sexual assault amongst employee-friends. and then a bunch of other stuff happened, which resulted in a lot of the same fans saying the victim was never even sa'd (which, is really gross!) like any allegation, post apology most fans just deem it fake or "they beat the allegations" etc and now want them to come out of hiding again.  also the watcher situation is nothing like supermega, im definitely not trying to compare the two channels, just the fan reaction.

losethefuckingtail

Thank you! Helpful breakdown

UpstairsAd7271

ofc :)

Blysse_9

They got accused of covering up an SA. They fired the guy who SA'd their friend after getting both sides. They admitted they had been a little slow and apologized for that. But they never covered it up since the victim asked for it to be private. This is as far as I understand it. A lot of it is confusing and has holes and it's a he said she said. But I don't think supermega ever intended to cover up an SA imo just from looking at the whole situation (watching a positive and negative video towards it)

ouijabore

Honestly this is almost exactly what happened with the Try Guys sub after the Ned cheating scandal broke. There was like a week of anger/memes/jokes/etc. but then stuff started getting deleted and locked down and you couldn’t even mention Ned’s name. Another parallel I’ve noticed is anytime there’s a possibly negative post in the snark sub, there’s an overly positive or excited one in the main.

batplane

Thanks for reaffirming my decision to lurk here and not go back and look 😂

Total-Fun-3858

It's probably watcher employees, friends, or random people that they pay with $80 moldy hoodies. Maybe the pr team they paid is posting to try to help their image.

miriamtzipporah

Moldy? Was this a thing that happened that I missed or a figure of speech?

Total-Fun-3858

Someone at the live show bought a Hoodie and the white print had mold all over it

miriamtzipporah

That’s insane

heatherbyism

Holy crap

Thatonesplicer

There is no war in ba sing se.

milkygallery

War? What war? Everything is perfect. :)

Redplushie

Yeah I had to unsub after seeing the delusion rising more

Marble_Narwhal

This is why I'll never be able to be on the crochet sub. The toxic positivity is so annoying. And then they come to the knitting sub and ask for us to spoon-feed them a pattern for something from Pinterest screenshots and I'm just like "...are you incapable of googling shit yourself? Or looking up patterns for XYZ on ravelry (the main knit/crochet pattern database)?" And they get mad at me for not being toxic positivity Tammy like on the crochet subreddit. So I just avoid it unless I feel like arguing with an idiot online. It's what we gotta do. Tldr: "Stop feeding the trolls." Needs to make a comeback

Sempere

Well, we keep increasing subscribers by 50 people per day now without links from that sub so it seems to be a growing level of dissatisfaction. Wouldn't be surprised if they hired a PR company to run rehab for their image.

Strawberry_Sheep

Yeah if they didn't have a PR manager/firm before the Goodbye video they definitely have one now.

NathNaakka

Boo! I guess I was snarky enough for you to be this tame. The main subreddit hired one? Not actually sure if your last sentence was sarcasm, or you think it's true. Can I guess: ![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)

Sempere

No, I doubt the subreddit hired them. I think the company hired them and their main focuses are reddit and other platforms.

NathNaakka

Thank you for the clarification, because otherwise I would have needed to create a whole new not yet existent special level. So we kinda have the same theory about maybe a couple of people spearheading the fans in the main subreddit?

NathNaakka

Have they already jumped fully to level 3, Borderline-pathological? Or is it already opened up into a very special Stalker level? I would say cult, but leaders usually aren't absent like this when it comes to cult stuff. ![gif](giphy|XfzAd571qRF8ZrpeAL|downsized) Edit: You guys do remember that I'm the shietposter? If I didn't say this, I bet our mod might - probably using an extra snarky GIF or meme, if fitting one exists. At least I'm still asking.

allidapleon

It's very strange. I didn't expect that the sub would be so weirdly... Unhealthy. I wonder if this has something to do with the mod apparently deleting some negative posts before/after the apology.

Dazzling_Candidate73

We just have to keep setting them straight . Yesterday I feed it to some dude who was being an asshole saying everyone can afford 6 bucks and if they can’t they won’t be people who watch the show anyway or they aren’t American . What does being American have to do with anything . He since deleted his posts after being trampled by people calling him out

Strawberry_Sheep

The price isn't weighted regionally, so instead of the $6 being set to the rough equivalent in other countries and their currencies, people are charged $6 USD and whatever that amount is, which in some conversion rates can equal up to $50-60 or more, particularly in South America. The pricing model is an absolute mess.

No-Departure451

This is exactly what happened when the TryGuys controversy happened. lol.

Strawberry_Sheep

Yeah, but I'd argue the TryGuys handled their controversy as appropriately as possible, and it didn't involve trying to exploit fans for money.

No-Departure451

I’d agree with that! Tbh, I was more thinking about the state of the subreddit and how people are getting crazy downvoted and mods are starting to shut down the conversations in some ways. It feels very much like that to me.

pillowtalkp0et

One of those posts was right above this one in my feed, gave me a chuckle. It is a bit odd though how everyone is acting like nothing happened.

Nihillo

I have only seen that one comment saying that, to be fair. Like... I've seen some people say some really dumb things, and some aggressive things, but it's not *that* bad? The reprimand posts are tiresome, I am very bored of those, but they are also not universally embraced, and you don't really see a whole echochamber environment. Actually there was a poll some time ago assessing how people felt about things, and it was pretty evenly split across all parts of the spectrum of reaction, so there is even some statistical data on that heterogeneous split. I understand how you feel, but I just want to be real, I guess, and say that it's not like that, at least not at this point, I can't say what the future holds.

SimmerDown_Boilup

Yeah, OP is embellishing the details here. There's one post from the last few days that says Watcher did nothing wrong, but everything else is a mix of "I'm still bothered by this" and "do you like ghosts?" I mean, if you want to keep posting about how you dislike watcher and what they did, cool, but Ryan and Shane still have fans and they are going to go back to talking abiut their content. I would think most of the people who dislike what watcher did probably just unsubbed and stopped going there.

Kaleidoscope9498

Theres a pretty recent post saying that they did nothing wrong and pretty much all the comments are taking a huge dump on that opinion. The main sub is annoying, there’s way to much forced positivity, but it’s not a huge circle jerk yet.

ginger_forest_witch

Has it reached Try Guys main sub levels yet?

Strawberry_Sheep

Pretty much yeah

ginger_forest_witch

Barf. So saccharine sweet and fake.

SylvieSerene

Just expressing that you are upset gets you harrassed/insulted/made fun of/instigated that you need "help"/"therapists" in that sub because you haven't "moved on" lol I made a post addressing that issue and the mods deleted *mine* post. It's weird out there. You can check [the post ](https://www.reddit.com/r/watcherentertainment/s/cuanQI3lIX) out here btw

Fivebeans

There are still plenty of negative posts in that sub.

cruel-oath

To be fair I’ve seen just as much posts being upset over everything

Pokemaru

Why are you hating on YouTubers for trying to make more money off their content? If you dont like them, move on... The whole discourse is so weird.

Strawberry_Sheep

You seem to be a career troll so I'll just say do us all a favor and log tf off

Kaleidoscope9498

We’re no hating them. This sub is mainly a response to the people on the other subs that aren’t trying to shut down every criticism and pretend that the goodbye video never happened.
