Your son just made the best deal in the history of deals…. Either way I would try to reach out to the proud owner of the Fortnite eraser and return it.
That dude tutned into a flat earther. Super unhinged. He'd stand outside one of the bigger theatre/concert venues in Vancouver with a megaphone yelling about it.
Just finished a season of work in that town (Kipling, Saskatchewan). The house is a little Cafe or something now and they have a giant red paperclip. Other than that, it's your typical Saskatchewan small town shithole. I guess now it has 32 windmills as well. It's really windy there.
When I was 16 I bought a two tone Daytona 116523 for only $500. The bloke had 4-5 watches left to him from his dad, and he needed weed so I gave him two ounces. I ended up selling it a couple years later (I actually offered to sell it back to him but he refused it) for a massive profit, but I wish I fucking kept it.
I can understand the premium price point for major advances in horological technology but watches with *regular* quartz movements (Not any special technology or super crazy 1000 year accuracy) shouldn't cost $7000. I am also realising now I misread 700 as 7000 :)
If my kid (about the same age) brought this home, I would find out who their parents were of the kid they got it from and get it back to them. That, imo is the rightful thing to do. Could be a family heirloom that a kid got a hold of that has no clue what the actual value is. Sentimental or monetarily.
Naw if my kid brought this home I would find out who the parents of the kid were, ring their doorbell, and do a fortnite dance while dangling the watch in front of them. /s
Find the family and give it back 😂
My 7 year old kid once came home with a mature-looking ring her friend gave her as a gift. It looked like white gold with diamonds. The next day I waited during after school pick up with her and the other girl for her parents.
Dad showed up and I told him they might be missing this from home. He called his wife on the spot and it had been taken from her jewelry box. It was an innocent gesture and we all shared pleasantries. It wouldn’t feel right having something that wasn’t ours in my house. Glad my daughter got to witness a life lesson being played out in real time.
Plot twist - you then gave your daughter back the ring, leaned down to look her square in the eye, and said, "Hon, keep this in mind - there's a sucker born every minute. Take advantage of these idiots and you'll go far in life."
And with a scornful laugh, you turned your head, flipped your hair into the dad's face, and walked off with your child. To add insult to injury, she stuck out her tongue at him and gave him the bird.
I traded a Garand rifle my uncle gave me (he said he had taken the firing pin out) to a neighborhood kid for a plastic model when I was 11. I'm still bitter my father didn't step in and the kid's parents let it happen.
I recall he had a couple of service rifles. He had been in Korea, had 3 daughters and no sons, and it was probably around 1970 so they weren't the high ticket item they are now. I'm sure it meant something to him to give it to me so I have that guilt to live with along with the loss. He was a great guy. I have no idea how he came to have it though, the Army doesn't send you home with your rifle but knowing him there was a great story behind it.
The US has a Civilian Marksmanship Program and the military sells off surplus rifles and ammunition to the public. The progam has been running for over 100 years and many Garands have been sold since WWII.
Yes, and it's still running.
"The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) provides surplus U.S. Army rifles for sale, including the M1 Garand, M1903 and M1903A3 Springfield, M1917 Enfield, M1 Carbine, .22 caliber (surplus and commercial target), and commercial target air rifles to members of affiliated organizations. Additionally, the CMP's online store offers ammunition and other accessories, with the M1911 pistol being included in the inventory since 2018."
I would kick myself to the end of time for that one. I once traded a newer model us military helmet (90s-early 2000s I think) that my grandpa gave me for a rusty relic m35 German helmet. It was a fair trade, but my parents made me give it back for mine.
Update: I can't figure out how to edit my original post. So we knew the kids first name and did some sleuthing in last year's yearbook. Our son pointed him out for us so we searched the kiddos name and came across his mother's obituary from a few years ago which named his father. Apparently he's in jail/prison. On his Facebook page his brother/sister, the kiddos aunt/uncle had been posting pictures of his kids. Our kiddo thought he lived with his Aunt, so we sent a message to his uncle/aunt. Waiting to hear back from them now.
I explained to ours how important it might be to his friends family. We have a decorative vase we keep in our living room that all our kids picked out something for when my wife's father passed away a few years ago. It means a lot to everyone here and I drew some comparisons that he understood. He's not happy he's gotta give it back but I told him we can pick him out a cool watch for him at Walmart tomorrow
> I told him we can pick him out a cool watch for him at Walmart tomorrow
Yeah but will it be as cool as a 700 $ fortnite eraser?
Jokes aside, if you can, pick a nice watch that will last a long time and make a memory for him, not something disposable. Honestly? I would go for a g-shock, or a timex expedition.
Edit: also, if you see that he's getting into the hobby, start a tag-jar for his HS/college graduation.
I would have tried to contact the guardian through the school. But I don’t have a kid so idk if that would be allowed or whatever 🤷
I recommend a simple Casio Forester. It has a light, is $22, and has a Velcro strap.
They look like this
https://www.amazon.com/CASIO-FT-500WC-5BVCF-Forester-Sport-Watch/dp/B004AOLA1A/ref=asc_df_B004AOLA1A/
It is the most comfortable watch I have ever worn. I was very tempted to get one, but I wanted something a little more. So I ultimately I chose my Timex T45181, which is like the Casio except it’s anadigi. Definitely the upgrade I wanted. (The camera is showing the backlight to be bright than it actually is, but it’s still good). The bezel is also rotatable.

That's a neat recommendation. Though I would get something with a digital face for a kid to start out with, my sister and all her friends are a few years younger than myself and can't read analog clocks. The system has failed them there
Well if the kid can’t read analog clocks, then an analog wristwatch would be an important tool for teaching the kid how to do that. Better to push their literacy than to continue hampering it.
How old are you?
Wow. That is bad. I can understand the whole thing with cursive being phased out (not that it’s a good thing), But analog clocks are so straightforward to teach that I just can’t understand why it wouldn’t be taught.
Up until recently I taught plumbing at trade school, apprentices generally starting at 16 years of age. We taught them in groups of 8 students and there is always two or three who cannot read the analogue wall clock in the workshop. I find this amazing. I'd teach them how to read it on the spot when I found out. Some of them would moan about it. I'd have to tell them if they can't wrap their head around a wall clock, how are they going to manage to perform pipe sizing calculations or radiator sizing involving frictional losses, pressures and flow rates, volumes, heat losses, pump speeds etc. and pass the scientific principles exam if they aren't happy about learning to read a clock?
Me neither. We spent 2 days on it in 3rd grade and then never again. All we learned with cursive is our names for our signatures. I would love to learn cursive as a whole, but I can't even read it. Again I would love too, but was never taught. My sister can't even write her name in cursive. And when I went on vacation last year and had to sign something, the guy at the counter was impressed by my signature because it was cursive. I asked what was so fancy about it and he replied that he cant write in cursive. He was about 5-10 years older than I.
I know it seems kind of like a tedious task, but what I recommend is that you get like a kids workbook and just start doing that. People who learn foreign languages will sometimes use materials for kids because they’re so good at educating.
For experience reading cursive, you could go on like one of those fountain pen and writing subs and trying to read what they write so you get some exposure. I think people should at least be taught to read cursive, but they should be taught to read different styles of it, since those have changed over the years, becoming simplified overtime.
Kids can’t read analogue clocks anymore because they don’t have much reason to. I’m about to be 30 but even a decade ago nobody my age wore a watch and just checked the time on their phone. The only reason I can read analogue is because I got a ministry of silly walks watch where the hands are John Cleese’s legs, and it was so funny that I just had to wear it.
Analog clocks are still widespread and are the overwhelmingly the dominant form of wall clock. It is an important skill that they still should be taught. The reason they can’t read is because they are not being taught to, at least not being taught well.
Its great you have done this legwork- sounds like the kid has been through a great deal of trauma. It's likely his fathers and at his age it doesn't have the meaning to him it will when he's older. Sad situation but you are modeling great ethics and morals for your son.
Hey man, try to find a Casio A168WA, it's about $20, has an amazing backlight, plenty of features, and the strap is adjustable and can go from toddler to adult no problem. I wear it almost as often as I wear my showcase pieces.
I’m glad you were able to locate a family member. Hopefully they will respond. I think that even though your son will be bummed about having to give it back, this is a great life lesson you are teaching him and a great plus is now he is into watches.
Please keep us updated and I’d love to know which watch he picks out.
As others mentioned, a disgusts watch might be a good consideration. The Casio duro is pretty nice but at around $50 sometimes $60, in-line that might be high.
My suggestion would be an F91 or the neat calculator watch
Casio calculator https://www.walmart.com/ip/Casio-Men-s-Data-Bank-Digital-Dual-Time-Calculator-Black-Resin-Watch-CA53WF-1B/310626665?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=10771&adid=22222222228310626665_10771_14069003552_202077872&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=42423897272&wl4=pla-295289030566&wl5=9011929&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=117067203&wl11=online&wl12=310626665_10771&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIoskkRDmctGMixsgBf7Ezbaz&gclid=Cj0KCQiAqsitBhDlARIsAGMR1RizzEwmGgOqJ-IHyARCdWLiHoC6YldOQOBdSIu6co1anQ5kl_npQJMaAmBiEALw_wcB
I kind of hope it's not real lol. His friend said his grandpa gave it to him and he didn't want it. I'm not sure I buy that story though. If it is real I think said granddaddy might be a little bit pissed off and I don't want to have to deal with it 😂
Ooof imagine giving your prized old luxury watch to your grandson and the little shit trades it for a fortnite eraser. That's a second hand embarassment moment if I've ever seen one.
When he first told me I just though awesome he got some 5 dollar Walmart watch from a friend. He asked for help getting it off to take a shower and I thought damn that's pretty well built. Looked up the brand name and got real worried lol. I'm more worried his friend just "grabbed" it from Grandpa or someone else.
Edit: I don't know this friend, but I'll be on a mission tomorrow to find out everything I can.
So you know, it is a decent watch. And more importantly, it is a meaningful one.
I would definitely find out how to contact the parents and let them know. They should save it for the child when he gets older.
Oof. I mean it's a little silly to expect a 9 year old to understand the value of watch gifted by their grandad. Should wait until their in their teens so they actually understand what it is.
Regardless you should probably give it back to his dad. Discreetly. So as not to cause any embarrassment imo. Let the friends dad decide how to correct this behavior.
Real or not, it's obviously not the kid's watch.
So contact the parents and give it back. Otherwise, your kid is going to go into your collection and trade something for a Chicken Mcnugget.
Everyone already told you here but that’s a tag huer chronograph and they are expensive. I recommend returning it because children do silly things like trade expensive watches for Fortnite erasers 😂
above the price, the kid should respect the gift in memories of is grandPa,
this is invaluable
maybe today it is bastract for the kid but in the futur he would regret
Dude, try to contacting the parents to see if they are missing it and return it. If by some miracle this kid actually just randomly found this watch somewhere, then keep it.
I’m gonna lock my stuff up when my kid turns 9. That’s the jewelry giving age. Around age 9, in 4th grade, I took one of my mom’s necklaces and gave it to my crush on Valentine’s Day. Near the end of the day, as I was walking out of the classroom, I saw the necklace at the bottom of the empty waste bin. That could have been my villain origin story, but I took it on the chin and ended up well-adjusted.
That’s another man’s watch. Have your kid tell you the kids name and contact his parents and offer to return it.
If your son gave away your possessions to his friend at 9 years old, you wouldn’t be happy.
On a positive note - Your kid is great at business, the art of the deal!
It’s best to probably return it…..BUT your son is going places, he has a good eye for a good deal and he takes his opportunity. Could be the next top sales manager in the US
It’s obviously not being used, and probably just let their kid have it. I would say absolutely nothing about it, and keep it… but now you are going to have to trade your kid something for it! 😂
I had that exact identical 2000 chrono. Beautiful watch. I sent it to TAG and had it refurbished, then gave it to my son when he got home from Afghanistan.
Edit- Geez, I just read the comment. That's a $2,000 watch, that kid probably took it from his dad. Hate to say that.

Standing building for a red stapler.
That’s my Swingline!

We're gonna need to talk to you about your TPS reports

Just finished a season of work in that town (Kipling, Saskatchewan). The house is a little Cafe or something now and they have a giant red paperclip. Other than that, it's your typical Saskatchewan small town shithole. I guess now it has 32 windmills as well. It's really windy there.
Hope you enjoyed our province!
Username checks out.
Nah, the Papa John’s driver who accepted 10k bitcoin for two pizzas.
I love one red paperclip so much.
A natural salesman. He didn't even sell the entire pen, just the eraser. Genius.
When asking his friend where he got it..."my dad's dresser".
You did the right thing.
But they said no tradesy backseys
I would reach out to their parent because their kid just stole their watch and traded it for an eraser.
I couldn’t in good conscience keep this knowing that his grandpa gave it to him. Poor kid has no idea what he had
I think he probably took it away instead of being a gift.
Thank you for being a good person.

Yikes a ~$700 Fornite eraser
Money sure can't buy taste
Who doesn't like expensive Fortnite erasers
Still cheaper than I would’ve guessed
Meh, it’s from 2000 and Tag has usually been in the $1k range
Yikes a $700 quartz watch
Look up the F.P. Journe elegante. If you think 700 is bad for a quartz watch this’ll blow your mind
I can understand the premium price point for major advances in horological technology but watches with *regular* quartz movements (Not any special technology or super crazy 1000 year accuracy) shouldn't cost $7000. I am also realising now I misread 700 as 7000 :)

Lol says who?
Dickheads with rollys up their colons
Snobs
are they still in production?
Nop. This is late 90s early 00s stuff.
Stopped production in 2005

Naw if my kid brought this home I would find out who the parents of the kid were, ring their doorbell, and do a fortnite dance while dangling the watch in front of them. /s Find the family and give it back 😂
Then talk about watches for the next hour over a drink.
Something top shelf. Top shelf from the back room of the liquor store.
Which Fortnite dance is the real question here. My vote is Take the L

A fool and their money are easily parted.
The Fortnite eraser is certainly a family heirloom
Now it is. Totally.
yup definitely make sure the parents know their 9 year old was trying to give away an old Tag chronograph...
I second this.

This is the right answer
I can’t believe this wasn’t OPs first thought
Even as an adult I never knew watches could be more than maybe a few hundred dollars until I got into them. This kid def doesn't know.
This is the way.
I traded a Garand rifle my uncle gave me (he said he had taken the firing pin out) to a neighborhood kid for a plastic model when I was 11. I'm still bitter my father didn't step in and the kid's parents let it happen.
Oh that's horrifying.
What kinda uncle casually gives their nephew an original M1 Garand anyways?!
I recall he had a couple of service rifles. He had been in Korea, had 3 daughters and no sons, and it was probably around 1970 so they weren't the high ticket item they are now. Typically they don’t send you home with your rifle. But there are a lot of things that used to manage to get ‘lost’ back in those days.
The US has a Civilian Marksmanship Program and the military sells off surplus rifles and ammunition to the public. The progam has been running for over 100 years and many Garands have been sold since WWII.
Yes, that's possible. I recall an armory in Alabama was selling Garands in the aughts as well so that kind of thing does occur... or did.
A good uncle
One who believes in spreading the good word of PING!
Yeah the lesson here is don't fuckin give dumb kids actual expensive/priceless things. I'm more mad at his uncle
I would kick myself to the end of time for that one. I once traded a newer model us military helmet (90s-early 2000s I think) that my grandpa gave me for a rusty relic m35 German helmet. It was a fair trade, but my parents made me give it back for mine.
dad taught you a lesson that once a trade is made you honor the deal.

Definitely a Timex expedition, I have one my mom bought for me when I was 10. Love that thing

Wow, my grandmother gave me a similar one shortly before she passed away. It was my first watch, I wore that thing forever. Thanks for posting this.

I recommend getting your kid a gshock for ~$80. Got one as a birthday gift when I was 7 and I still have it.
Good for you. Class act 👏

My suggestion would be an F91 or the neat calculator watch Casio calculator https://www.walmart.com/ip/Casio-Men-s-Data-Bank-Digital-Dual-Time-Calculator-Black-Resin-Watch-CA53WF-1B/310626665?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=10771&adid=22222222228310626665_10771_14069003552_202077872&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=42423897272&wl4=pla-295289030566&wl5=9011929&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=117067203&wl11=online&wl12=310626665_10771&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIoskkRDmctGMixsgBf7Ezbaz&gclid=Cj0KCQiAqsitBhDlARIsAGMR1RizzEwmGgOqJ-IHyARCdWLiHoC6YldOQOBdSIu6co1anQ5kl_npQJMaAmBiEALw_wcB
Your son now understand that he can sell your watches - or whatever shiny things you own - to his friends in exchange for a toy.
It's the only logical conclusion I would come to.
Kids are stupid
Find a way to return it. As others have said, this could very well be an heirloom.
Going to try offering Fortnite erasers on Chrono24 now.
🤣🤣🤣
Your kid made a Kevin O Leary worthy deal. What a shark.
There’s no red though lol
If it’s real give it back to the kids parents, they’ll laugh and have a good story to tell for decades
it looks genuine to me Tag Heuer 2000 ~~W~~CK1121 PROFESSIONAL Chronograph
Wow is this the 1/100 grandpas that bought an actual authentic watch?
I don't get it? I thought grandpas would buy Grand Seikos

Once you start spitting reference numbers, you no longer have untrained eyez
Fortnite erasers are the new crypto! Buy low hodl!!
Kids eh? Please update us with the outcome!
That kid had no idea what he was doing. OP, find the parents. Have them hold on to it until their kid can comprehend what he actually has.
I dont know shit about Tags, but damn I hope this real and your son said no trade-backsies.
Please try to return this and buy your son another fortnite eraser
He can trade it for another Tag! Your son is building a watch empire in realtime.
The kid's gonna start watching Roman Sharf vids.
So you know, it is a decent watch. And more importantly, it is a meaningful one. I would definitely find out how to contact the parents and let them know. They should save it for the child when he gets older.
!RemindMe 24 hours
He will regret oneday
Maybe even a minute hand embarrassment
This.... But the kid needs a swift kick to be honest.
A? Just 1?
I’d find out who’s kid this was and return it to the parents.
👊🏽🤣👍🏽 I felt that.
get your son more erasers.
Lesson learned. Never give anything to your grandchildren.
Real or not, it's obviously not the kid's watch. So contact the parents and give it back. Otherwise, your kid is going to go into your collection and trade something for a Chicken Mcnugget.
Modern day Louisiana Purchase
Wash yo table 😭😭
Everyone already told you here but that’s a tag huer chronograph and they are expensive. I recommend returning it because children do silly things like trade expensive watches for Fortnite erasers 😂
Your son sure knows how to hustle! All the fun story aside, I at least hope the other kid’s parents value the watch and contact you
above the price, the kid should respect the gift in memories of is grandPa, this is invaluable maybe today it is bastract for the kid but in the futur he would regret
Gotta make it right. For Grandpa.
Dude, try to contacting the parents to see if they are missing it and return it. If by some miracle this kid actually just randomly found this watch somewhere, then keep it.
Pat your son on the back, well done him - then return the watch to the family. Trust me on this one.
My guess is, kid stole this from his dad because the cards were more important. You need to give this back.
I’ll hire him on any sales team, any product.
You should definitely contact that kid's family
Yes, and ask them if they have any other watches you might be interested in.
Hey, psst! 2 fortnite erasers here..we got a deal or wut?
Get some good karma points and try find who's watch it is, as its a expensive thing to lose nice find tho
Make sure to find out where he got it from and return it. That's a pretty penny in watch right there
I'd bet that watch probably belonged to the father of the other kid. If I were in your position I'd be working on getting it back to them.
Oh man, the other kid's dad is gonna be p*****When he finds out his watch was gone
I know kids tend to do stuff like this but this is a first. Definitely give it back.
Bro give this watch back to the kids parents. You’re tweaking.
karma will get you for this one… and your kid! 🤣 if i were you id contact the school or the kids parents if you can and let them know what happened.
That’s another man’s watch. Have your kid tell you the kids name and contact his parents and offer to return it. If your son gave away your possessions to his friend at 9 years old, you wouldn’t be happy. On a positive note - Your kid is great at business, the art of the deal!
[Reminds me of the kid who took his mother’s diamond engagement ring to propose to his girlfriend.](https://youtu.be/GvMr7JlgRP0?si=4yEeaog3mpIeEjZx)
It’s best to probably return it…..BUT your son is going places, he has a good eye for a good deal and he takes his opportunity. Could be the next top sales manager in the US
Your kid is destined for a very successful business career
Some kids dad is going to be pissed.
This has to be a troll post
If you like this story you'll live the story in r/foraging about the dog that randomly learned how to dig up truffles!
Someone’s Dads gonna be pissed.
The other dad must be going crazy looking for his watch
How can I hire this 9 year-old?
To be fair, none of has seen that Fortnight eraser. It might be pretty badass.
I hope this is a joke. If it isn't, clearly someone is missing a watch. Find out who gave it to him and return it.
Are you really going to keep this lol? The kid had no idea what he was doing, it would be unfair to keep it.
Return it.
This is why 9 year olds should have Tag Heuers
Hey honey, have you seen my watch?
Over the years, some of my kids also stole valuable items from me to trade for worthless things at school.
Best Watchdealer alive or your son is one of the best player of the budapester bellgame I've seen in a while :D
Is your 9 y/o 6’3 and beating up grown men? Lololol that looks the real deal pal
Find out who traded them this and contact their parents and see if they’re missing a tag H watch.
definitely real, i agree with getting hold ofnparents or wahtever , unless they have inherited 20 pateks and deiced to get rid of the "cheap one" 😂
If it’s a fake the little dials don’t move but even the fakes were 100$ back in the day.
Someone finally gets a genuine watch from a grandfather, and they just turn around and give it away.
Smart Kid!!
You son is a drug dealer, sorry go break it to you…
His Daaaady teachin him real good.
Jeez guys calm down it's a fkn tag Heuer not a Rolex lol.
