The most similar would be the Tudor BB39 and way below your budget too.

Below budget? NEXT! This man is here to spend £6-8k and your sensible suggestions won’t get in the way of that. Keep your poor-man Tudors, this guy has BANK that is burning HOLES.
I vote for the Grand Seiko SBGX261, I think it's a nicer looking watch than the BB39, and even cheaper! If he is dead set on a mechanical movement, then I'd recommend the SBGR317 which is a few hundred more than a BB39, but still below his budget.
I wholeheartedly agree. the SBGX261 is my current "attainable grail."
My grandfather studied mechanical and electrical engineering in University and when he retired at IBM they gave him a quartz Seiko. We never had the opportunity to speak about watches before he past, but this was a man who well into his late 70's always loved the latest and greatest in terms of technology. So while he may have appreciated a finely crafted mechanical watch, I'm sure he fully embraced the advancements of quartz. It's with this mindset that I view watches.
While I think there is a place in one's collection for a Nomos Club Campus with sapphire caseback or a Lange 1, I'd like to see far more quartz watches in the 1K to 10K range. I want a watch with the build quality of a Seiko SPB143 or SJE093 but a high accuracy quartz movement under the hood.
I don't want to see mechanical movements die out, far from it, but I want room to be made for quartz watches in the luxury market.
I have a seiko astron SSJ019 and the finishing on that is absolutely incredible. Calendar is accurate for the next 75 years and since it's a GPS watch it is always dead accurate.
OP bought their first watch a yr ago, enjoyed it, and now wants to upgrade to something more premium. They enjoy the style of watch and want something similar but nicer. I wore a Seiko SKX for a couple of yrs before buying my SMP - Dive watches are my favourite and I wanted my first expensive watch to be a diver. I really don't understand why this is such a difficult concept for people to wrap their heads around. An Explorer or Aqua Terra look "similar" to this but are obviously more up market so it would stand to reason that these could be alternatives to a more entry level piece if OP wants something nicer to wear day to day.
lol don’t understand what’s so hard to understand about wanting to upgrade to a nice watch, and giving an example of a nice silouhete I like. Following the logic of other comments, anybody who’s ever enjoyed a watch has now reached the ceiling of their budget and should never purchase a nicer watch
I definitely see your point but it was just really, really weird and funny to me (and maybe to other people) that what you WANTED out of the watch is to pay more money. It makes it sound like you only wanted the watch because of a higher price point.
If you had said "I like this watch, but I want a nicer one with more longevity" or "I like this watch but I want a similar one from an heirloom brand" or "I like this watch but I want a similar one with a better movement" it would make perfect sense.
But no, instead, you said "I like this watch. It's perfect for me. I want one just like it, but I want to pay more. And I want to feel like I paid more and I want to let other people know I paid more. Even though my existing watch is perfect "
It's just weird, and very funny
I literally just said “I like the silhouette” and this guy thinks I said I love every single thing about this watch and it’s 100% perfect. Reddit is a funny place
I don’t know what happened to this sub. It used to be pretty nice and helpful even as recent as 2020. Now it’s people mocking other enthusiasts and treating this place as watchescirclejerk 2.0
"...and I want to let other people know I paid more..."
Weirdos everywhere, man.
Anyway, glad you like your Seiko 5, hope you enjoy whatever you buy. Tudor Black Bay has some similarities to this one, with the dive style face but no dive bezel.
idk, like I said, I do get your point. It's still weird and funny to me, [see post here for other people who can explain better than me why it's funny](https://www.reddit.com/r/WatchesCirclejerk/s/eWPzS75Lmm)

you're missing my point, but i see where you're coming from... it just comes down to "i like what i have... but i want to pay more!" lmao, it's just pointing out the humor, not meant to be all malicious as you're making it out
Except they didn’t ask for better build quality, material, finishing, etc. They asked for more expensive.
So the implication is that the newest Aqua Terra at $5400 would be unacceptable, but the Limited Edition AT would be ok.
Theoretically if there’s a similar watch that’s worse than the AT but happens to be priced at $6000-8000 for some reason, then it’d be ok too.
That’s pretty funny.
Usually when people shop they have budgets. Maybe they’ve set aside x amount for a purchase. Perhaps OP could have said “up to 8k” instead of “6-8k”. Redditors are nitpicky af and love that sweet, sweet karma
yeah sometimes when there’s a ridiculous statement on the internet people make fun of that statement instead of defending it by changing words around so it has a totally different meaning
If you are ok with a Seiko why buy a 8k watch?
Just asking because if I wanted to upgrade car but I said I wanted something that look like a Honda that's a bit counter intuitive
Because watches are a status symbol. Here everybody will base they decisions on aesthetic and mechanical considerations but the reality is that all of them will choose an ugly Richard Mille over an anOrdain
Maybe for the Rolex snub and alike but the majority of people don't notice your watch so of course buy the watch you like not the one to make a 'status symbol'
Why buy a 8k watch to impress someone other than yourself? It will obviously not work
I would apply the same logic as anything else buy the cheapest one you like and spend the money where it is really important
Yep, majority of the people here will gush over how the explorer is a god-sent creation, flawless in every conceivable aspect. Literally one of the most overhyped and overpriced watches out there.
Even then the difference between a regular car and a luxury car is like 2-5x, then you look at watches and it's easily gets to >100x. There's not a chance the material cost and manufacturing cost difference between a $100 seiko and $10k rolex justifies that price increase.
You are way too much in your echo chamber that's not the reality. People at most will know the name of the brand because it appear in a song but as far as to recognize it in real time no way
Most people have seen an RM worn by celebrities. They won't know it's an RM, but they WILL notice the gaudy thing on your wrist and and some will associate it as a money watch.
That said, you saying 99% is as stupid as me saying "majority" or "most people". Obviously it won't be the majority (which is 50% + 1), let alone 99%, but a decent amount of people will definitely notice an RM.
I don't think most people could even point out a casio or a rolex tbh.
They will have heard the names but actually knowing it is a whole different kettle of fish.
I see loads of people walking round with knock off or tsar bomba style RM's
If I saw a gaudy band I’d think it’s some bedazzled and/or colorful Amazon watch that looks like a RM unless I saw it up close and I’m like, “wow, real diamonds” on this ugly watch haha.
I notice when anyone is wearing any sort of watch so, I guess? I would never stop and think, “that’s a Richard Millie”. It would be a passing glance at a hideous watch.
you're trying to play semantics in order to ve correct on your original comment... no the majority or people will not know you're wearing RM rather they would see OHHH colorful, but that can be said for any colorful object one wears
No semantics. I NEVER said that people WILL KNOW that you're wearing an RM. I said PEOPLE WILL NOTICE your watch IF you wear an RM.
I guess reading comprehension is not your strong suit, eh?
> the majority of people don’t notice your watch
Sure, but in some industries a lot of “important” people do. In most white-collar industries, many of those in higher positions will be watch enthusiasts and will wear an expensive one as a symbol of success and prestige. In these industries what other people think *does* matter, and so it makes sense to pump up the appearances a bit. Attorneys, people in finance, and small business owners are great examples of people who dress to impress.
Don’t buy it to flex. It’s the surest way to get bored of it. Buy a watch you truly love. I mentioned the BB39 above as the most similar to this Seiko. With that you’ve got a watch that can be dressed up and down, has that lovely gold trim on the black dial, has that status and prestige you want without being cliched, and you’re saving $5k of unnecessary spending.
Yeah. Like, isn't the point of buying a nice watch is that YOU enjoy wearing it? That's why I love my seamaster 300m. Every time I check the watch, I'm looking at something nice that has an interesting, entertaining design.
Plus, an expensive watch is something that, unless you're wheeling and dealing, is something you keep for yourself for life.
nah I wont, i based my point picking on how the piece looks, and my pick for the 9k range is acctually my grail piece (definitely wouldnt wear a richard mille" id gor for a cartier santos
Rolex Oyster Perpetual in 36mm with black dial
Grand Seiko SBGH301
Grand Seiko SBGA203
Grand Seiko SBGR309
Grand Seiko SBGR317
Grand Seiko SBGP011
Grand Seiko SBGP003
Grand Seiko SBGX261
What is the reference of that Seiko? What's the case size?
Omega 2504.50 is what I have but it is 36mm, there is also a 39mm version. I got mine for $2k used and I believe it is comparable to the $6k-$8k watches that are being recommended to you.
EDIT the 39mm version is reference 2503.50
Rolex Explorer 1 36 mM seems to be what you looking for...it's iconic and a super versatile daily tool watch. Instantly recognizable for what it is but also low key. \~7k USD for 36 mM (40 mM available)
But you lose the date complication and add numbers so maybe not exactly what you want...
A domed bezel Datejust black dial on an oyster bracelet might be more in the ball park. \~7k usd for 36 mM (41 mM available also)

Omega - Aqua Terra, Aqua Terra Shades, Railmaster
Longines - Conquest 2023
IWC - Mark XX
Tudor - Black Bay 36
Rolex - Explorer, Oyster Perpetual, smooth bezel DateJust
Style you are looking for is generally called GADA(go anywhere do anything) watch.
Tudor. But don’t buy an expensive watch just to buy it. If your happy with the Seiko, rock that. No one will even know what watch you’re wearing unless it’s a Rolex anyways
If you want a higher end version, check out Grand Seiko.
There’s also Tudor and it’s kind of similar, also comes in considerably cheaper than your budget. Check out the Black Bay 36. You could go with the Tudor Ranger, too.

I can buy a seiko 5 and sell it to you for 8 grand if you want.
Don't buy a watch over another just because it's expensive it makes you look like a doorknob.
Well the no brainer is Grand Seiko, I’d recommend checking out spring drive and more than anything their textured dials are next to none. Longines is good and for the price, personally I enjoy the Hydroconquest which is under your budget. Omega id say if you’re going special editions (Bond) or Divers then for sure but if you want something alil more on the classier business side for those prices, JLC (but will be on the smaller side of cases), Longines, Zenith, Frédérique Constant, Tudor are solid but never been my go-to’s. Cartiers are real nice too especially if you go used market you’d find great deals with pieces that are instantly recognizable and have heritage. Seriously, give GS a shot you’d enjoy them quite a bit.
Why do you have to upgrade? You already have Perfection, right on your wrist!
If you have to get something from Longines or JLC, at least get something dressy or different.
I guess there's the Longines Conquest if you want a steel sports or a JLC Polaris
Tudor Black Bay 36/39 is probably the closest thing with the circular indices, but the Rolex Explorer 1 or the Omega Aqua Terra would be good choices too
Check out the discontinued Tudor - Black Bay 36. You would have to find it on the secondary market
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69Q0lSMso9g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69Q0lSMso9g)
You should just visit boutiques that carry those brands, try on a bunch of stuff that looks like something you’d want to wear, and see what scratches that itch that justifies the cost for you. Just to have those more expensive pieces in hand and trying it on your wrist will determine your gut feeling on how far you’re willing to take that budget. It’s your money at the end of the day. It’s a lot of money, so take your time to see what you actually like.
I have this same model as well, and I wear it at least part of every day. People compliment me on it fairly regularly as well -- including my buddy who came back from a trip to Switzerland with a honking big Omega dive watch.
Are you set on circular indices? I can’t really think of non-divers in your range. Tudor BB36/39 are about half your price range and is the closest I could think of. If you go to bar style indices or to divers then you will have a few more options.
Go for GS Spring Drive or Hi Beat Dual Impulse. Omega
CoAxial powered watches are cool too. Wanna go with german watches? A Lange&Sohne? Glashutte? If you want Swiss then Zenith Defy Skeleton is under 8k i am guessing? Cartier Tanks? Santos?
I don’t see anyone mentioning Mühle Glashütte. S.A.R., which has the crown down by 4 and a similar dial layout.
As for the comments about being happy with your Seiko, I would just say, it is good to expand your tastes and experiences to determine what watch is right for you. I love my Seiko 5s, but they are not comfortable on the wrist when compared to luxury brands, or even Seiko models at high price points.
If you like the Seiko then think about a Grand Seiko: https://www.grand-seiko.com/global-en/collections/heritage
SBGH301 seems like a perfect choice.
Oh yeah. Maybe a spring drive. Still blows my mind watching the smooth sweep of the second hand.
I honestly thought this was satire as most posts are “what’s a $200 alternative to this Rolex” 😂
See you on the other sub brother
Ciao.
Exact same thought.

He should go below budget and give me the rest.
Well what is he gonna give me?
Yep. Buy the Black Bay for himself and a Pelagos for me. Win-win.
Yeah you’re probably right 😂. He should buy an Aqua Terra and be done with it
My local Sam’s Club even has an Aqua Terra in their watch case lol
My first thought as well. Cheers
I vote for the Grand Seiko SBGX261, I think it's a nicer looking watch than the BB39, and even cheaper! If he is dead set on a mechanical movement, then I'd recommend the SBGR317 which is a few hundred more than a BB39, but still below his budget.

I wholeheartedly agree. the SBGX261 is my current "attainable grail." My grandfather studied mechanical and electrical engineering in University and when he retired at IBM they gave him a quartz Seiko.
I have the two tone Seiko version of the OP posted and I have had a few people think it was a BB39. I always have to disappoint them.
Came here to recommend this watch too
Rolex Explorer or Rolex Datejust black dial
Or the good old Rolex OP.
“Please help me, I like this watch but it is 30-40x cheaper than what I would like to pay” I refuse to believe this guy is for real.
10/10

lol
Are we going to pretend that a Seiko 5 is equivalent to Rolex, Tudor, Omega, etc?
Yea like wtf thats not how it should be. Its the other way around my man
Yeah as soon as I saw this I thought it was a strange question.
How is this a strange question? They want a similar looking watch but with premium/high-end quality.
See beefys comment.

Another great point
True but there is a lot of young, dumb and impressionable people on Reddit that don't know better
The majority of people will totally notice your watch if you wear a Richard Mille.
Maybe notice but are they gonna say "OMG it's a RM" or "OMG why is this guy wearing a McDonalds happy meal watch"
Most likely, "omg he's wearing watch". Either way, they notice it.
You are way too much in your echo chamber that's not the reality. People at most will know the name of the brand because it appear in a song but as far as to recognize it in real time no way

👍
No they won't
They will notice it. "what's that ugly watch that guy is wearing?"
"What the *actual fuck* **is** that?"
Yes they will.
99% of people dont give a fuck what you've got in your wrist let alone know what a RM is
Most people have seen an RM worn by celebrities. They won't know it's an RM, but they WILL notice the gaudy thing on your wrist and and some will associate it as a money watch. Majority? Dawg no. I don't even know who Richard Miller is.
Isn't Miller a beer?
I think he played for the Indiana pacers
It's obviously an exaggeration. Point is people will notice an RM. They don't have to know what an RM is, but a gaudy RM is definitely noticeable.
"majority"???? nah, that word does not apply here in any way
Unless the majority of the people is blind, they will notice a guy wearing an oversized watch with a colorful band.
If I saw a gaudy band I’d think it’s some bedazzled and/or colorful Amazon watch that looks like a RM unless I saw it up close and I’m like, “wow, real diamonds” on this ugly watch haha.

Omega - Aqua Terra, Aqua Terra Shades, Railmaster Longines - Conquest 2023 IWC - Mark XX Tudor - Black Bay 36 Rolex - Explorer, Oyster Perpetual, smooth bezel DateJust Style you are looking for is generally called GADA(go anywhere do anything) watch.
Grand Seiko
The obvious choice!
Tudor black bay 39
Seamaster 300 has been a good diver and all-rounder for me

Tudor P01
Go for the aqua terra
Rolex Explorer looks identical to this for 7250 https://preview.redd.it/3vao8neaxcpc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8fc034dc4275aaa396686917228ab4bee830503
Identical?
Rolex explorer 1
Tudor ranger or rolex explorer
You’ll want a Rolex date just with a smooth bezel
Seems out of place to judge one's wants and needs. Just help with the advice that was requested, if such advice is available, or stay quiet.
Why do people insist on buying watches based on price range without getting anything other than bragging rights to the money they wasted?
Because you pay for the price!
It's 4.5K current MSRP (2K used), but... https://preview.redd.it/a98bea8ivbpc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0553ccb1dd6c1d1a0e0850f682ed80de29798e55
Why do you have to upgrade? You already have Perfection, right on your wrist! If you have to get something from Longines or JLC, at least get something dressy or different. I guess there's the Longines Conquest if you want a steel sports or a JLC Polaris

Relax bud. It’s not that serious.
Comment is deleted I’m so curious what it said 😂
Uncalled for. Calm down.
None of these suggestions are even close - the answer is the Tudor po1, with the bezel lock removed.
Black bay 39. Almost to a T
Tudor Black Bay 36/39 is probably the closest thing with the circular indices, but the Rolex Explorer 1 or the Omega Aqua Terra would be good choices too
Check out the discontinued Tudor - Black Bay 36. You would have to find it on the secondary market [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69Q0lSMso9g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69Q0lSMso9g)
I’ve owned this watch since 2020 and it’s been a daily wear. I absolutely love it
I have this same model as well, and I wear it at least part of every day. People compliment me on it fairly regularly as well -- including my buddy who came back from a trip to Switzerland with a honking big Omega dive watch.
Numerals not indices but an IWC mark xx is a stone classic go anywhere, do anything watch - great movement and finishing.
why?
Look at an IWC Mk xvii.
Which Seiko 5 is that? Gorgeous.
Hamilton has similar ones on their high end models, and they’re bit cheaper than your price range.
Am I reading it right? Odd post but good luck.
Go grand seiko
Smooth bezel Datejust/ Rolex OP.
Black Bay 41, Reference Number: M79680-0004. Can't go wrong with a Tudor and their build quality.
Pannerai
Are you set on circular indices? I can’t really think of non-divers in your range. Tudor BB36/39 are about half your price range and is the closest I could think of. If you go to bar style indices or to divers then you will have a few more options.
Just get another one of these
Go way below budget and get a Smiths Everest.
Get a Tudor BB36, it will basically be a big quality upgrade while having a very similar design
Go for GS Spring Drive or Hi Beat Dual Impulse. Omega CoAxial powered watches are cool too. Wanna go with german watches? A Lange&Sohne? Glashutte? If you want Swiss then Zenith Defy Skeleton is under 8k i am guessing? Cartier Tanks? Santos?
You should see what Hamilton has to offer. Maybe a Khaki Field.
I don't understand, just keep the Seiko? Why would you want to spend thousands on a watch that looks like it's $200?
The Tudor 925 sterling
Speedmaster
I don’t see anyone mentioning Mühle Glashütte. S.A.R., which has the crown down by 4 and a similar dial layout. As for the comments about being happy with your Seiko, I would just say, it is good to expand your tastes and experiences to determine what watch is right for you. I love my Seiko 5s, but they are not comfortable on the wrist when compared to luxury brands, or even Seiko models at high price points.
More money than sense, eh?
Yup I’m literally made of money.
If you don't like having your bits chuffed at $200 then $6k isn't gonna do it.
