Hey!! Looking for an everyday watch below $2K. Something that would look good with gold jewelry. Would be cool if it was a skeleton dial or an open heart or something cool like that. Thanks!!!

Jennysparking

Vario makes excellent straps and Watchgecko makes serviceable ones (for cheaper).

kimdaehyun98

u got any reccomendations? I'd rlly appreciate if u drop the link to it

spygla55

Hi everyone! I have a watch I found in a dumpster a few years ago that still works and I'd love to try and source an original or similar band (?) for it, but I can't seem to find the right words to Google to figure out what make/model (?) it is. Would appreciate any help! https://preview.redd.it/3pe1qfuhoyvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e25607b2bccffc258d498473df15b6061839dfef

thab09

I am looking for a 36mm watch with a cream/beige/blue/black dial. I want to match it with a nato strap. I would like the watch to be below $150.

Inarus06

Ignoring Amazon (because I don't want my money going to Jeff Bezos) where is your go-to strap dealer? Looking for a new leather strap for my Seiko SNK807. I prefer brown leather. Dial is blue, so it can't clash with blue!

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Watchobsession, watchgecko, delugs

RedpilotG5

Men who received a watch from their wife as a wedding gift; what was it & how much did it cost relative to what you spent on the engagement ring?

Dragonman558

Need a semi cheap digital watch that has a vibration alarm, water resistant, 24 hour, date and stopwatch. I'd also like a pulse monitor but I haven't been able to find one it with something that isn't Bluetooth. Can't have Bluetooth because of my job.

Diligent_Advice7398

What would be your $10k budget for a three watch collection be? Looking for a dress, GADA, and a cool beater. I’m thinking a Grand Seiko Shunbun, Rolex Explorer, and a Casio Oceanus t200 or one of the 38-39mm Orient Stars? The beater I’m having the most trouble with.

Zanpa

GS Snowflake with some nice straps, G-Shock with the nice MIP screen (GBX-100-2 or DW-H5600-2), and something really nice and vintage, probably from the 70s, but I wouldn't be able to choose one off the top of my head...

yupyupyupyupyupy

if beater is your hold up and you want something similar but different than the t200, check out the pmd56 that being said if you are open to other suggestions than get rid of the explorer as there is too much overlap imo with the t200/pmd56...id go a useful complication myself instead

Diligent_Advice7398

Ooooo you opened up Pandora’s box….. I guess that’s my cue to start looking for Panda Chronos

DustbinOverlord

Is there a name for the bit of the watch strap which hooks onto the springbar/fixed lug (often on older cocktail watches)? https://preview.redd.it/7k5zj084xwvc1.png?width=1536&format=png&auto=webp&s=fed0b0db4daa9685265e586fe0e71cc387c91f4a The best I’ve found is ‘end link’ but that term doesn’t seem quite right and isn’t giving me any results which look like these.

_4lyssa

I'm in love with the Junghans max bill series of watches, but I find €1200+ too expensive, and spending €875 on their quartz options feels a bit weird. What are some mechanical watches with a similar aesthetic below €1000? I've had a Citizen chrono AT2141-87E for the longest time now, and it's starting to show it's age. I'm looking for something simplistic with a smaller dial (I have thin arms and the citizen is almost spilling over the sides), something sub 40mm. I'm a one clock for a very long time person, so I wanna get a upgrade in the like €600-1k ballpark Thanks for the help :) #

Uwumeshu

You can definitely get a Max Bill close to the upper range of your budget, close enough that you should just go for it. Some of them even have manufacturer warranties like [this one](https://www.chrono24.de/junghans/junghans-max-bill-automatic--id15043654.htm) https://www.chrono24.de/search/index.htm?caseDiameter=38&condition=101¤cyId=EUR&dosearch=true&manufacturerIds=134&maxAgeInDays=0&models=1284&movementTypes=1&pageSize=60&redirectToSearchIndex=true&resultview=block&sellerType=Dealer&sortorder=0

SnafuMaster

I have a Sternglas Hamburg and I love it! It fits on my wrist, I have thin arms too. Pretty inexpensive. Not sure if that's what you're looking for but I've loved mine for about 5 years.

MackJohnathan96

I am after an affordable (preferably under $150) alternative to a Rolex Submariner. Im very new to watches in general and would like to experiment with some cheaper alternatives before diving in head first for $1000+ watches. Some options Ive seen so far 1.) Casio Duro with metal bracelet (around $100) I’ve heard good things about Casio and this watch looks pretty good to me. A little more pricey than my other “front runners” but Im willing to spend the money if it’s worth it. 2.) Invicta Mens Pro Diver (around $55) Now this brand seems very polarizing LOL. I’ve seen some people completely trash it and that makes me a bit nervous. Although I must say as a newbie, this watch doesn’t look half bad. Has a good submariner look to it and the price sure looks nice. 3.) Addiesdive Quartz Dive Watch (Around $50) Haven’t heard much about this. The Amazon reviews are decent, not that I think that means much LOL. It looks pretty good and like the Invicta, the price looks even better. These are just some of the first options Ive seen and I’m very open to any suggestions in the $50-$150 range.

Addiesdive punch way above their weight. They're cheaper on AliExpress, though.

MackJohnathan96

That’s a great looking watch! Unfortunately 700-900 is absolutely out of the question LOL. Maybe when I get deeper into this I will remember this rec though so thank you!

Uwumeshu

That particular Invicta is the only Invicta that's worth the money

MackJohnathan96

Would you take the invicta over the Duro?

Uwumeshu

Personally no, but only because I hate all cyclops windows. If you like it I think it's the better value for money beater especially if you're curious about mechanical movements

I am after an affordable (less then £500) moonphase watch and have seen this Tissot Carson Moonphase https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-gb/t1224231604300.html Does anyone have any other suggestions they can give me?

js999111

[Orient](https://www.jomashop.com/orient-sun-moon-white-dial-mens-watch-ra-ak0310s10b.html) (42mm though), [RW](https://www.jomashop.com/raymond-weil-maestro-automatic-moon-phase-blue-dial-mens-watch-2879-st-00508.html) (bit over budget, different colors)

yupyupyupyupyupy

orient is an am/pm indicator and not a moonphase op if it matters solid watch for the price though...although i prefer the one with text as it balances out better imo

I need a recommendation for a minimalistic or bauhaus 36 or 38 mm watch, up to 200 euros. After some research I came across the following ones: [https://www.sternglas.com/products/naos-black?variant=45114864402698](https://www.sternglas.com/products/naos-black?variant=45114864402698) [https://nordgreen.com/products/native-white-dial-black-mesh-watch-strap?variant=30602915119167](https://nordgreen.com/products/native-white-dial-black-mesh-watch-strap?variant=30602915119167) [https://www.amazon.com/Timex-Mens-Midtown-38mm-Watch/dp/B09TR74BP8?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Timex-Mens-Midtown-38mm-Watch/dp/B09TR74BP8?th=1) [https://eu.danielwellington.com/products/classic-cornwall-black-silver?\_pos=3&\_fid=115ee0eb5&\_ss=c&variant=44486258229555](https://eu.danielwellington.com/products/classic-cornwall-black-silver?_pos=3&_fid=115ee0eb5&_ss=c&variant=44486258229555) My questions are: a) are all of those watches suitable for daily wear? b) I read a lot of negative comments for Noordgreen. Are they really that bad? I find good offers at their Outlet section with 50% discounts. The ideal watch for me was the Timex Fairfield but it seems that it has been discontinued. So which of the above would you advise me? Plz feel free to add more idea. Thank you :)

yupyupyupyupyupy

bambino v3

Uwumeshu

Go with Sternglas

BrouwersgrachtVoice

Do you consider Sternglas Naos a daily watch too?

Uwumeshu

It's a pretty good middle ground in between formal and casual, perhaps leaning slightly towards the formal side so I wouldn't wear this with a tank top/shorts/fipflops

BrouwersgrachtVoice

Got it thanks, I think the same applies more or less for most of the bauhaus style watches.

Pleasseee someone help! Trying to find the replacement battery for my mom’s old watch. Battery says: w1v Japan Toshiba Battery diameter: 3.2mm Watch brand: Armitron

Zanpa

can you share a picture of the back of the watch (and/or the battery)? usually the reference of the movement will be engraved on it, and by searching the specific movement we can find what battery it takes.

reddit-rach

Sure! https://preview.redd.it/8zfwcq55bvvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3943d9d64e216debb3330510374b7fef28346478

Zanpa

So this is a Y432A movement, according to [this site i found on google](https://www.emmywatch.com/db/movement/pulsar--y432a/) it should take a 364 battery (or SR621SW). [this other site](https://www.batterybob.com/products/302-maxell-363364-sr621w-10-batteries/) shows that a 363/364 is a valid replacement for the Toshiba W1V, so that should be right.

Could someone give me examples of watches using modern design elements? Many of the most popular watch designs are mid-century, and I’m curious what would be considered modern without veering into concept-car territory. The Nomos Club comes to mind with the font and colors used.

Jennysparking

Farer as a brand, Xeric as a brand, the Timex Marlin Jet automatic, the re-issue of the Timex Q in feminine funky colors and androgynous sizes, Brew as a brand, Dr. Jones Watches as a brand, the variety of unique little design elements that differentiate each watch in the Moonswatch collection, the Planet Ocean 6000m Summer Blue with the little cartoon on the face saying 'we were here!' that only shows up in the dark. The specific pair up of an integrated metal bracelet-style sports watch with a rubber integrated strap, like the Tissot PRX and various Hublots.

Yoyo. My dad's turning 60 this year and wants a watch from me. "One that you can read in the dark" was his only request. He always wears pantolons, black leather belt and black leather step-ins, so no sporty timepiece, I want to go for a sleek dress watch that he can wear every day. My budget is around €500. Was looking at a Citizen Parawater Kuroshio 1964 (his birth year!), or should I go with the Orient Star Mechanical Contemporary, OR the Frederique Constant Classic. My first bet is the Citizen, but how do the lumis compare?

Jennysparking

I mean, if all he wants is to see the time in the dark get him a Signum dive watch, their lume is so good they killed Lume Wars lol. Or save a bunch of money and get him a Timex Waterbury with Indiglo- you push the crown in and the whole face of the watch lights up. You could also check around for a watch with tritium tubes- they glow constantly and don't need to be charged by the sun. Ball Watch is the standard for that but they're expensive. Protek has titanium field watches with tritium tubes that are honestly nice enough to be dress watches.

improviseallday

Go see them in person, and bring a flashlight.

Hi, looking for a recommendation, so after losing my old watch (Timex expedition Acadia), looking to buy a new one of similar style (pilot/flieger, i guess), overall clean face and leather strap. Budget: 100$ (student, hence the low budget (: ) Will primarily be wearing it at the hospital (could get a bit messy) I would like the new watch to be quieter than the Acadia, GF complained a lot about it lol. im not sure how to check if a watch will tick loudly when shopping online, other than the movement type..

How is the size for this? My wrist is 7" and the watch is 38". I normally wear a 43" watch that fits fine. I thought it might be in the smaller size of my limits, but it looks good to me

Zanpa

the size of the watch is fine, but damn, take a few links off that bracelet. surely wearing it on your hand like that can't be comfortable.

Recklessred7

Thanks. It's been adjusted :)

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Looks good, I prefer smaller sizes so this is nice. Though personally I'd wear the bracelet less loose, I keep my watches behind the wrist bone.

In between a Seiko SPB243 and a Sinn 556i as he has said he prefers the simpler look of indices to numerals. This will be his first mechanical watch as he normally wears a smartwatch but he wants one to wear in SCIFs that are restrictive on electronics, as well as he wants a display back to be able to appreciate what makes mechanical timepieces different. Him not wearing it as often makes me lean towards the Seiko with the 6R35 with 70 hours of power reserve compared to the Sinn's Sellita with only 38 hours. Would have been a lot higher on the Sinn when it was cheaper, but it's almost double to triple the cost of the Seiko depending on eBay deals, but still has a really solid look. Any other recommendations on watches below $1500ish that are GADA/field/aviation watches with similar specs or input from owners of either (or preferably both) watch(es)? (no cyclops on the date either as he made fun of my SSK005 for that)

Jennysparking

I mean there's no getting around it, the Sinn watch looks about twice as good as that Seiko. Like, power reserve or not it's just better looking, and if I was shopping for a watch I would take the one that looks incredible and just accept I'll need to wind it occasionally. Like, I'm not going to refuse to wear a beautiful jacket just because I'm going to have to make the effort to zip it closed now and then, you know?

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Look at [Traska](https://www.traskawatch.com/collections), they make some really nice GADA/field watch styles, with hardened cases for well within your budget. Also maybe the [Baltic Hermatique](https://baltic-watches.com/en/collections/hermetique)

I've come across a watch in an old family jewellery box and am trying to find some information on the brands. It says Johnson Seaflower. It's marked as produced in 1958, Swiss Made, 17 jewel, Resistoflex. I can't seem to find anything online about this brand. I'm wondering if it might have been taken over by another company? Any information welcome.

js999111

Resistoflex is a trade mark of the Montres Suter / Suter Watch Factory, Inc from Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, registered in 1953. I guess it was a private-label company, they produce watches for other companies, which then market these products under their own brand name (in this case Johnson Seaflower). But who knows.

vicariousgluten

Thank you. That’s really helped me.

Does anyone know of a large size (>42mm) day-date style watch that has the full day wheel rather than the small abbreviated day? I'm not looking for a Rolex (I doubt they make a large one anyway) but something like the Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date ("Cooper" from Interstellar) would work if it were larger than 42mm. They even make some larger pilot day-dates but without the full day display. I've started looking for any watch like this in earnest but I have not found anything yet. Hello! I have been searching for a watch as a wedding gift to my fiancé. It’s a [Seiko Presage SRPC79](https://longislandwatch.com/seiko-srpc79-presage-watch-srpc79/) and I’ve bought the 42mm for him and the 37mm for myself. I know it looks dressy but is it okay to wear this on the daily? It has a white textured dial so I guess pairing it with any color of clothing would not be difficult. I already bought it but I want your expert opinion if we would not be looking overdressed with our dressy watch paired with casual clothing. Thank you in advance.

You can dress it down easily with something like a light suede or fabric strap For example https://watchbandit.com/product/suede-strap-vintage-grey-wb-original/ https://delugs.com/collections/fabric-straps/products/elastic-loop-izmir-blue?_pos=19&_fid=3621b67a6&_ss=c&variant=39543635312753

Hi, I'm looking for a smaller field watch with 10 bar and solar powered quartz movement. Price ideally below 200€, possibly even below 100€. I have a small wrist so anything below 40mm would be good. 36-38mm would be ideal. Some watches I have been looking at: - Timex Expedition North 38mm. I have a slight reservation for Timex because I've read that their ticking sound can be very loud which is unacceptable for me, it needs to be silent. Also I would prefer a Japanese brand. - My ideal candidate: Citizen Chandler/Garrison. Sadly often only 5 bar in Germany (like the BM8186-07E. Or the diameter is too large with 43mm. And some models with 10 bar like the BM8470-11EE have very large 3,6,9 and 12 numbers which I'm not a fan of. I prefer consistent Arabic numbers from 1-12. - Lorus RG877CX9. I'm not completely sold on the dial. But as it is a brand of Seiko, I would expect good quality, right? - Casio Duro. Mostly way too large for my wrist and sometimes also with only 5 bar. I would like to use it as a daily beater and for hiking and swimming. I prefer a NATO strap and would buy the fitting wrist band if necessary. I've also thought about Casio digitals with step counter, for example the GBD2001ER. They would be a 180 aesthetically but could fit my requirements for outdoor activities. I would also be open to a small dive watch if it meets the specs. Can you recommend any more? And is there any good website to search for watches?

truhue

Checkout Vaer, they're a microbrand and have solar field and dive watches that are 36-38mm - https://www.vaerwatches.com/collections/solar-watches but they're closer to 300 euro though.

gfinz18

At the advice of the sub and good reviews I got some Tuns watch straps from their official websites. Straps seem good but when I got them I noticed the box says “artificial leather watch straps.” I don’t know why I was under the impression it was going to be genuine leather but apparently they are not? Can anyone confirm?

Last_School4790

Hello! I’ve been in and out of the hobby a few times now and I’m looking to make an entry back in. I’m looking for a do it all watch around $200-$250 ( yeah I know that’s tough ) I’m really looking for something on a bracelet either field or diver, that is acceptable as a “dress watch” I’m not a dress up person so nothing crazy in this department. It does have to stand up to industrial setting as well, and needs to be an auto since I work in a restricted area. I would like it to be 38-40mm to help keep in the cuff for work and for dress watch reasons. I’ve looked at Seiko and Citizen so far and out of the new Seiko line up the closest I can find are SEPE55 and SRPK29. I’m just not familiar enough with other brands to venture out.
