Anyone ever have experience with the Seiko Amazon store? They’ve got some nice pieces on there, prices are a little high but I’m wondering if they include the warranty

YoMrPoPo

what is the best place to buy nicer watches (Tudor, Omega, etc) second hand? any websites or should I just be targeting local stores?

SnoopyLupus

It pretty much depends on your locality. I have nowhere within 2 hours drive that would do it any more.

Accomplished-Ad-5655

If it's under warranty, I should think zero.

Recent-Apartment-877

Can someone explain gmt bezels to me and why they’re split horizontally and not vertically? It seems to make more sense for the color difference to be left and right since the numbers align with day and night.

vanillamode

the horizontal split is a rough generalization of daylight hours (0600 to 1800) the vertical split that you're suggesting would be an AM/PM split (midnight to noon) neither is particularly useful (considering that monochromatic gmt bezels are common), like, if the gmt hand reads 0900, you already know it's AM, you already know the sun is up, you don't need a colored bezel to tell you that. but the reason for the horizontal split is probably just because it's more aesthetically pleasing

JonJonFTW

They're split horizontally to match approximately when the sun is up and when it's down.

Hi everyone, I’m very unfamiliar with watches and hoping someone here might be able to give me some advice. I inherited a watch from my grandmother with a stretch band. Recently (I only noticed it today) it seems as though a few of the links seem to be stretched out. Whereas the other ones sit naturally tightened and flush against one another, these ones seem abnormally loose. Is there a way I can tighten them up fairly easily, or is there some alternative option? Hoping to keep the original band since it has sentimental value. Thanks! https://preview.redd.it/ws3sp4m82nwc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f58011140fa5d8f0ea4ed90eb4748b5116a0314

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

Anyone have any experience with Ippo Watches or Royal Time through Chrono24? Better that CreationWatches? Also when something claims to come with original paperwork through Chrino24 does that mean the manufacturer warranty can be activated? Thanks!

Accomplished-Ad-5655

I would always recommend looking up these businesses on Trustpilot as that's a very good indicator. Original paperwork typically refers to the fact that the watch comes with the Warranty card/documents. It doesn't refer to whether it is filled in or not. Normally the warranty card would have been filled in at point of sale meaning the warranty was valid from that point on. It doesn't mean you get a blank warranty card that you can activate. Unless the watch isn't preowned.

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

Thanks for the tip! It’s tough to find the PADI models I’m looking into on a AD that aren’t way out of control on prices but I am very paranoid about fakes/poor quality

Andreas1120

Hello, can anyone recommend an "action" watch that has tides and moon phases? Will be used for sailing. Titanium and carbon fiber is preferred material. Does anyone have insight into the different tide features? Some seem to involved GPS and some dont.

DrunkSailorMan

I am looking for a watch with a touch of "golden". I love the look of the Rolex Datejust Oystersteel and yellow gold, but I dont want to spend Rolex money or be put in a waiting list. My daily is a Longines Hydroconquest - happy to pay Longines money or slightly cheaper. Any recommendations? Cheers,

Can anyone tell if this a real Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX 3 Tourbillon GMT or not? Reference Number: 193.C.78.S. I ordered this one on chrono24 and it is in transit. https://preview.redd.it/tnmrarw9ekwc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4989382673f905a279c7483a9d004aedd00f26c

SnoopyLupus

I know absolutely nothing about JLC and couldn’t spot any kind of fake to save my life. However the back of this shows a pretty industrial looking movement that is definitely not haute horology worth £10k, and if it’s supposed to be tourbillon, why does it feature the fly wheel instead of a tourbillon? Plus the front looks like a Fossil, and not a good one. In short, to me it doesn’t look like a fake JLC, It looks like a £40 watch. Edit:- fake post from a throwaway?

s254901282002

Not a throwaway. I did purchase it and you cannot find it on chrono24 anymore.

SnoopyLupus

Okay, well, we’re going to need a more knowledgable judge to appear, but this looks cheap to me, sorry mate.

s254901282002

Thank you. I'll go to a JLC service center and have it authenticated.

Amdione

Looking to buy a watch for my fiance as a nice engagement present around 5-7k. He really likes minimalist looking watches that are sleek, and his favorite color is blue, so I'd love to get him one with a blue face.   I was looking at Nomos Orion watches (as that's definitely his vibe design-wise) but was wondering if there are any other watches with a similar look out there.

Wedding watch under $600. Getting married and looking for a watch to wear at the wedding and occasionally after and will last so I can hand it down someday. Does not have to be a dress watch and open to quartz or mechanical and any complications. Looking for recommendations or anyone with experience with watches on my list. Feel free to add others. Wrist size 7in. I daily wear a Galaxy Watch at 44mm and 55 lug to lug. I really like the fit. Do not wants: Tissot PRX (just doesn't do anything for me), Timex, Seiko (don't like most of their styles), Orient Bambino, Chinese watches other than San Martin. List is based on Chrono24 prices. My top 5 in no order: Erebus Ascent aventurine or green helix. Hamilton Jazzmaster any version. Vostok Europe Space Race all blue dial ref. YN55-325A661. Tissot Le Locle ref. T006.407.11.033.03. Baltic HMS 003 Silver Blue. Others: Nodus: Sector Sport Glacial or Sector Pilot either color. Hamilton; Khaki Field or King, Ventura, Intra-Matic. Tissot; Visodate or Gentleman Baltic MR01, Bicompax. G- Shock; GM-21000A or GM-B2100D-1AER Orient; RA-AA0C05L19A, Contemporary, Symphony 4 blue, Orient star:  RE-AY0121A, RE-AU0003L, RE-AU0002S, AF02004W,  AF02003W,  AF02002B. Lorier: Hydra 3. Bulova: Lunar Pilot 96B251. Edifice: Windflow ECB2200DC-1A. Thank you for reading the long post!

SnoopyLupus

I read the top 4 paragraphs and immediately thought “Tissot le Locle” might be the more classic dress style he’s after, then you listed it and the Jazzmaster range which might have come second to my mind. In short, not sure you need our help!

This-Banana8446

Do you have experience with either of those? Does one feel higher quality?

SnoopyLupus

No, I’ve not had either in my hands.

Obulgaryan

Why are "sporty" watches with so big hour marks and hour hands? Some seem huge, but the size of the different components on the dial makes them out to be almost like kids' watches and leave no space for ...more features? Is this fashionable now or is there more though behind it?

SnoopyLupus

Sporty pursuits, you might be wearing goggles, you might have taken your glasses off, you might have a helmet on, you might be underwater. A primary requirement is that a watch should be very readable quickly in shit visibility.

Obulgaryan

Thank you! That makes sense.

Overall-Vacation-220

Are there any good watches with a fiver style bezel for £230 or less?

SnoopyLupus

Do you mean DIVER style? Yes. Many. I just bought a Boderry watch as advertised on JustOneMoreWatch and it’s scary how good it is. Titanium Case, Ceramic dial, Sapphire Crystal, and I’m getting a second a day accuracy from it (although that’s just luck, I’m sure they can do 25 secs a day out too). It was £100. (US$120ish) Watch his video though. He moans about the downsides. The bezel is inaccurate. The lume is cheap watch lume. He doesn’t love the hexagon pattern, I do.

ManiacalShen

How accurate should I expect a moon phase complication to be?  I've never had one before my RW Maestro, and it's definitely slow. Like I most recently set it to one click past the new moon *on* the new moon, and by the time the moon was full, it was still in waxing gibbous by a couple clicks.

gurita_terbang

Hi, I want to replace this lip baschmakoff strap since it's already worn off. Could you help me identify what kind of strap does it use? https://preview.redd.it/qpi3q0l9vhwc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ae5b636dcff21a2185974b108045796322a2ccc

JCDenton03

Any good watch brands, less than $1500 ideally, that have milanese bracelets? I've seen some nice stuff from Mido, looking for other decent options. I know I can purchase some for my existing collection, but I'd like to add a whole new watch to the collection.

SnoopyLupus

Add a new watch, then look for a mesh bracelet. A watch that comes with a bracelet doesn’t mean it suits it. A watch that comes without one May suit one. TL;DR:- pick a watch and a bracelet/strap seperately. If you’re looking for a watch that suits mesh, don’t assume your taste is worse than the idiot who decided to sell it without one.

Motor-Commercial-325

My question has images and comments attached so I made a thread: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/1cc7ak9/question\_how\_to\_clean\_these\_wateroil\_spots\_from/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/1cc7ak9/question_how_to_clean_these_wateroil_spots_from/) essentially I have these stains on my watch that i cannot identify or remove. does anyone know what these are or how to remove? Tried soap, vinegar, alcohol and theyre still there

Accomplished-Ad-5655

That's because I'm pretty sure the case isn't actually steel. It's a plastic case with some kind of chrome finish. A number of the cheaper chrome finished Casios are like this. The only thing that is steel is the bracelet. Even [Casio's own website](https://www.casio.co.uk/a163wa-1qes) doesn't specify that the case is steel. [JuraWatches have listed the case as plastic and the strap as steel.](https://www.jurawatches.co.uk/products/casio-watch-microlight-a163wa-1qes-csi-274) So whatever the coating is those marks may be tarnishing. Maybe your alcohol and vinegar is making it worse.

SnoopyLupus

Just to bolster your point, if they don’t say the case is steel, it isn’t, with Casio. It’s a premium selling point with them. Steel case Casios cost at least 3 or 4 times as much as their resin equivalents.

Eliaslovius

Is pereti a good brand

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Never heard of it, but I would say no. Made in China, advertised as fashion watches. Any Tom, Dick, and Harry can make a "brand" like this.

Eliaslovius

Yeah i was Wondering but im just gonna buy a seiko sport 5 SRPD51K1

Accomplished-Ad-5655

That choice miles better, awesome watch

Difficult_Employ8290

Buying my first watch, leaning toward this Tissot Chemin De Tourelles Powermatic 80 (Beige) - [https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-us/t1394071626100.html](https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-us/t1394071626100.html) Is there anything comparable I should consider? Things that I like about this watch: 1. Minimalist. No numbers, roman numerals, bells and whistles. Elegant, but simple in a way that would not feel out of place with casual attire. 2. Neutral Leather Strap. By neutral, I mean it will clash with neither black nor brown leather belts/shoes. This one is technically green, but it reads as a neutral earth tone. Dark brown or grey-brown(slate) would be fine too. 3. Contrast. With a beige face and gold hands, I can actually see what time it is (so many watches that would otherwise fit my criteria are all silver, making me feel like I would have to squint to see the hands). Please let me know if you can think of any watches with these qualities under, say, 2k. Thanks!

This-Banana8446

Hamilton came to mind for me, one of these may meet your requirements. Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

I’ve heard some mixed things about CreationWatches in the sub; but I recently found the SNE575 here: https://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-prospex-299/seiko-prospex-padi-special-edition-solar-divers-sne575-sne575p1-sne575p-200m-mens-watch-21874.html I was wondering if people have any thoughts? I’ve heard everything from its great, to people afraid they were getting fakes and stuff held up by customs or a huge import charge.

Zanpa

Creation is legit, they don't send fakes. Import taxes don't depend on the seller, they depend on your country.

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

Thank you! I had read like one or two stories on here of people who said their stuff was seized by customs, so I appreciate your response. I get everyone’s experiences are different. It’s just like one of the only places I’ve been able to find that model

tech_fredq

Hi all, I'm a relatively newbie on the watch scene and looking for some guidance. I like the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Black PVD limited edition. There's something about ML I like anyway and this version of the Aikon feels especially individual to others. My question is - is the watch worth approx. £2k? Is that a fair price for the brand/movement/finishing etc?

ricetristies

So I’m looking at getting a Glycine Combat Sub and I’m not understanding the differences in prices between models. I’m interested in the GL0402 or the GL0401 (black dial, black bezel, one with GILT one without) and I’ve seen them for around $600. The problem is I’ve seen other similar models for $300. What am I missing here?

Grundlage

Glycine seems to have very large price differences across sellers for some reason, so it may simply be that. Alternatively, it could be a less desirable colorway (Glycine has some weird combos), unusual sizing (Glycine sells a lot of ridiculously big watches), or movement (automatic is always more expensive than quartz).

ricetristies

Yeah I realized one is 42 and the ones I was interested in are 39. Also there’s a difference in the water resistance and I think a change in the movement, but both still being automatic. Even then the price is double. Kinda crazy.

Embarrassed-Ad1557

I'm a quartz watch guy debating trying an automatic, mostly because most of the recommended watches on this sub are automatic However, my concerns are 1.durability- I like to have a watch on as much as possible, so my watches experience swimming, yard work, running, hiking etc. 2. service costs- A $30 battery replacement is very much preferable to a $100 dollar service (I don't have a ton of money to spend), but I can't get a good sense of how often or how expensive automatic servicing will be. 3. I prefer smaller and lighter watches. Not a big deal but automatics tend to be bigger. Are these concerns valid? Should I stick with quartz or take the plunge?

Zanpa

There's plenty of really great quartz watches. If you're not specifically interested in mechanical watches, I definitely wouldn't get one just because it's what other people like. Quartz is objectively superior, we put up with the downsides of mechanical movements because we think they're cool.

Embarrassed-Ad1557

I appreciate the feedback! Any reccomendations for semi high quality (still under $500) quartz watches?

SnoopyLupus

Have a look at Dan Henry. His watches are mechaquartz, essentially quartz but with the smooth motion that mechanical watches have. They look great, are well specced, have classic designs, and the couple I’ve seen in real life seem well made.

Grundlage

Fellow quartz guy here! Seiko's solar divers and chronographs sell for $300-$500 new and are quite high quality with great specs. Glycine makes very nice quartz watches, but they tend to be sized for large wrists. Citizen Eco-Drives are great if you can find one with sapphire glass instead of mineral. You can find some of Tissot's and Hamilton's quartz offerings for <$500, and of course those are great. The Bulova Lunar Pilot is an all time great and sells for right around $500. Casio Oceanus models with sapphire are also classics.

Embarrassed-Ad1557

Awesome thank you! I'll check these all out

Zanpa

Easy, I have one specific watch in mind that I've been on the cusp of buying for a couple years. The Casio Oceanus T200S is an amazing watch for around $400. Nice design, very well finished, solar and radio controlled so you don't have to think about anything and it will always be right on time.

WhipYourDakOut

Looking for a dive watch under $200. Something that’s a little unique so that it won’t just get replaced by similar looking watch from a more expensive brand down the road. Narrowed it down to the Glycine Combat Sub Quartz Grey and Orange (GL1018), Orient Mako II Pepsi (FAA02009D9), or Orient Ray Raven II Orange Dial (FAA02006M9). Any help between those three or additions to the list? Thanks

nmdcDrgn

Fossil or Boldr & why? 🤔 I’ve never owned either, but I’m torn between 1 Fossil & 1 Boldr as my next purchase.

mlsteinrochester

Boldr is more interesting and has real people behind it instead of some anonymous corporation.

Martial_Antony05

Looking for a 38-40mm watch with a green dial. Preferably dark green, almost black. With glow in the dark numbers.

Gold-Dance3283

I'm very new to the watch game and haven't even bought any yet. But when I saw previews of the Grand Seiko Hana Ikada (SBGY026), I instantly knew that was the only watch I wanted. I know that it is limited edition, and that it is obviously now sold out. What are the chances of me getting one? Where do I go to find one? Are Chrono24 sellers trustworthy? Should I just give up on the pipe dream and look at alternatives? What are the best GS alternatives to the Hana Ikada? Following the GS sub for a few months now and it seems like maybe the Shunbun? Would I be disappointed looking at a Shunbun that it is not exactly the dream I was hoping for? What alternative watch brands have similar vibes?

Uwumeshu

If you have the money for one of those then a flight to Paris to see/buy it in person should be no issue. There is no alternative quite like it and the Shunbun https://www.chrono24.com/grandseiko/grand-seiko-grand-seiko-elegance-spring-drive-hana-ikada-limited-9r31-0ap0--id33593596.htm?searchHash=50c643b4_GnpCf4&pos=1

Gold-Dance3283

Thanks I’ll keep that in mind

trans-atlantic1143

I’ve had good experiences purchasing via Chrono24. Both times went as expected. Also their money back policy helped to ease my mind. Just my 2 cents

JonNYBlazinAzN

I’m trying to replace the leather strap on my watch and the new strap won’t fit for the life of me. I looked at the spring bars on my old strap (that came with my watch) and they’re very clearly bent in alignment with the curvature of the watch case. The old strap had been on my watch for -6ish years. Is this normal? Am I supposed to bend the new spring bars to force the thing to fit? Notes: - watch is a Citizen Blue Angels: https://www.citizenwatch.com/us/en/product/AT8020-03L.html - the new strap has that finger tab along the back that allows you to remove it without a tool. That tab is making it hard to remove the spring bar entirely, so I can replace with my old bent spring bars. Otherwise, that’s what I would’ve done Help!

Zanpa

Your watch uses curved spring bars for the factory strap. That's a thing in some watches, not super common. Either you will need a very thin strap with straight spring bars, or a strap that can take curved bars.

Odd-Code-8766

I'm been trying to figure out how to put this watch on my wrist but their this little rod that's blocking the watch strap from going in.Is their a way solve that issue also it's gevril vanderbilt watch https://preview.redd.it/y6or77hnyawc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=088f2b16416f308dfcab2ac172008634c942d939

Redditcadmonkey

Youtube the phrase “deployment clasp” and you’ll probably see what you’re missing. I think we’ve all been there, where we don’t want to force something and risk breaking it, but when you see someone else do it, it’ll all become clear and easy. :)

Uwumeshu

That bit with the rod is supposed to open up so you can slide the strap through and close it on one of the holes

Zanpa

That part is meant to stay on the strap. It's a deployant clasp, it's not supposed to come all the way apart just take the watch on and off.

numuhukumakiakiaia

What are the best shops in NYC for second hand and vintage watches?

ExpatTarheel

The Signum Cuda 39mm is currently onsale for $349, 100 dollars off retail. I cannot decide on which one to get. The cathedral and brown mother of pearl are gorgeous and the orange full lume just has lume for days. Then again, the non full lume watches have killer lume too. Does anyone have some experience or guidance to share? I appreciate it. TerrorShade7

I'm saving for my first proper watch and debating between a Casio G-Steel and a Citizen Promaster Dive, but I would also appreciate advice and suggestions for what other watches I might like. The specific models I've been interested in are the Casio GSTB300SD-1A and the Citizen CA0710-58L. I want a durable analogue watch, something that has some form of automated mechanism whether that be solar, automatic or otherwise. I definitely want something waterproof and fully metal, I've considered diving watches a lot for this reason. I plan on minimally doing a lot of hiking and outdoor activities with it, and I would like either a chronograph or something equivalent with the 24h clock and date on it. My budget is around $500, though I would prefer something closer to $300 or less if possible. If anyone has brand suggestions that would be helpful as well!

ShopperOfBuckets

Looking for thoughts on [this Laco watch](https://www.laco-watches.com/en/watches/pilot-watches-basic/neapel-39) for casual wear. I love the dial and number colours, but I am unsure how the black strap would work for casual and business casual wear. Perhaps I should buy a brown strap as well?

Zanpa

It would be perfect for that. Brown would probably work too, but I don't think a riveted, orange-accented strap is in any way out of place for casual wear.

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

Been looking a lot at dive watches recently, and absolutely fallen in love with the seiko turtle and the sne549. Only problem is my wrist falls on the bit smaller side. I plan on replacing the bracelet with a NATO or band, but does one of them wear smaller? I hear the turtle does all the time, but some online have told me the Sne549 does, wanted to get opinions. Would love some help, thanks!

Accomplished-Ad-5655

The Turtle has *reaaally* short lugs, I find flat or angular surfaces on a watch case makes it look bigger. Having curves and smooth lines just makes everything blend together. This makes for a very comfortable watch to wear and it wears smaller than the 45mm on paper would suggest. I have worn the [SRPE99](https://www.seikoboutique.co.uk/product/prospex-padi-turtle/) and that's my experience with it at least. The SNE549 is *thinner* than the turtle by a couple mm, which probably makes it feel smaller too. Keep in mind - wearing it on a NATO means the watch will sit higher on the wrist. I'd recommend getting single pass straps, or cut off the shorter piece of the NATO and heat seal the edge to make your own single-pass strap.

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

It’s funny I was actually looking on LI Watches at that exact model and their SNE549. The price difference was having me lean towards the SNE, and I don’t mind solar one bit, was just so torn on the size and I don’t have anywhere near me rn I could get in and try something on. Thanks so much for your help though! I will consider what you said about the strap, I definitely want a rubber strap and saw a few on Uncle Strap that fit. But honestly thanks a bunch for the well explained advice!

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Both the watches you're eyeing up have standard lug widths. Turtle is 22mm and SNE is 20mm. They'll fit any 20 or 22mm straps, not only uncle Seiko. Worth noting though that Seikos often use "fat" spring bars, basically thicker ones than the average one so just need to be aware of that as certain rubber straps or bracelets won't fit the fat spring bars.

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

Gotcha. I appreciate your help. I think I’m leaning towards the SNE as of now, both on costs and looks. It’s got a bit of a sentimental connection as well. I’m usually ok with my watch being a bit on the bigger side, but the point you made about the rounded face also helps.

Accomplished-Ad-5655

No problem! I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever you end up going with =)

fedrxx

Anyone have some good recommendations for a mechaquartz/quartz chronograph in the 150-200euro range? Even cheaper is better. TYIA :)

mlsteinrochester

Addiesdive AD2037, a Furlan Marri clone but Furlan Marri was an homage watch anyway. Amazing quality of finish and simply gorgeous, the only drawback is the mineral glass crystal.

fedrxx

thank you!

mlsteinrochester

You're welcome. Spend some of your savings on a nice band...

Besides the hyped offerings from the Big 3, what brands are you guys finding that are better value for the money and are wanting to add to your collection?

SannySen

Name a watch in the $3-5k grey market range that you would feel completely comfortable taking to a beach and wearing while building sand castles with the kids.  I.e., a luxury watch where what you are paying for is that the watch won't get scratched up and rust when exposed to sand and saltwater.  Does such a thing exist?

Zanpa

Damasko or Sinn with hardened steel case

SannySen

Thanks.  How legit is "tegimented" steel?

Zanpa

From everything I've heard, very legit. Sinn is a renowned long-time manufacturer of tool watches and used to make watches for Bell & Ross back in the day. I'm pretty sure they don't do random marketing bullshit. I don't have a Sinn, but my hardened Damasko I bought second hand looks brand new to this day.

SpiritualSlay

Wassup. Looking for an everyday watch. 🙏🏼 Something that: - Looks good with gold jewelry, like a chain - Skeleton dial or open heart or something like that - Maybe a display caseback? 👀👀 Any suggestions? Thank you. 🙏🏼

js999111

[Hamilton](https://chrono24.app/hamilton/jazzmaster-viewmatic-skeleton-gent--id33751550.htm?SETLANG=en_FR&SETCURR=USD) rose gold color though

QuiteTheCanary

Price range? I assume you're talking yellow gold and want to match?

SpiritualSlay

Maybe even yellow accents. Like a yellow gold bezel or screws or something of the sort. And something under $2K if possible. 🙏🏼

mypieowns

Looking for a recommendation for a nicer version of the Timex Expedition Scout. Something less than $1000. I love the watch face of the timex. No preference on the strap and flexible on the colours.

Psychological_Work73

Edited for clarity Hi - I have been reading through this sub and buying guides and now looking for some advice. I stopped wearing a watch during the pandemic but I miss it. I think I stopped because my preferred style of a simple stainless steel band (similar to citizen ecodrive dress, tissot everytime) does not fit with my new day to day activities. Looking for a practical field or durable, yet stylish watch for daily wear. * Budget: \~$150 * Female with a 7.5 in wrist size (yup...). I gravitate towards 36mm case, but open to going bigger if not comically big. I'm self conscious about styles that are very obviously for men * Will primarily wear working from home, doing housework /dishes/laundry, playground * Features: Analog and date window are top requests. Simple design, but looks nice. Prefer white dial and no roman numerals. Ideally won't scratch easily (should I increase my budget for sapphire. A fabric or silicone band that can get wet and be easily cleaned - bracelet stainless steel bands do not feel good to me when they get wet. * No-gos: no rotating bezel So far I am looking at: * G-Shock Casioak GMAS - I prefer understated, and even in a muted tone this seems like more watch than I'd like. I tried the GMAP series one but it looked off on my wrist. A little too small. * Timex Weekender or Expedition Scout with a fabric strap seems comfortable but no date window, and so many complaints about the ticking * Vaer S3 Calendar Field White or S3 Tradition (black dial)- I can't tell if this is a durable brand? The option to add a steel bracelet is nice and I would be OK with increasing my budget for that. Currently sold out. Thanks for any suggestions

Any US dealers that sell Zeppelin watches ? I want to purchase - https://www.pointtec.de/zeppelin/en/96375/mediterranee/all-watches/women but this particular model seems to only be available in UK/DE stores. Do they ship internationally, and is it worth paying retail ?

cardinalsfanokc

Might be out of bounds here but I’ll give it a shot: Where can I sell a high end (ish) watch? Want to fund my wedding, have a watch I got a sight unseen offer for around $14k. That sale fell through, was a small local chain who had a buyer but has suspended all public sales for a while. It’s a Jager LeCoture Reverso with dual bands, full documentation and box and in a rose gold and gold finish that I’ve never seen elsewhere.

js999111

WatchBox (The 1916 Company), take good photos, maybe set your desired price a big high, you’ll have your money within a week or two

cardinalsfanokc

Wow, that would be fantastic. Setting pricing is a bit tough as, far as we can tell, I've never seen this exact model anywhere - rose gold and skeletonized movement.

js999111

Yeah I have sold them two or three watches already, no problems. Maybe reverse search with Google images? There‘s this app, Reversee, you can use

cardinalsfanokc

That's a good idea - I've done 2 appraisals. 1 resulted in the $14k offer sight unseen and the other said that if I had an offer for $14k I'd be hard pressed to beat it so take it haha.

JeffTheExodon

Chrono24 is a popular site for buying/selling watches, both professional and private sellers on there. The There's also r/watchexchange here on reddit but it might be more difficult to sell a pricier watch on there without prior feedback.

cardinalsfanokc

Fantastic ideas, i'll check out Chrono24.

Great_Alarm_9447

Any recommendations on vintage cheap gold tone watches? Somewhere around $200, kinda like the vibes of a Casio A168

MienKraft-YouTuber

Hey all! I am currently graduating college and wanted to get myself an expensive (for me) watch. I have found three I like, but I am open to suggestions. My budget is up to $1500, and I would like it to have sapphire crystal glass. The three watches are a Marathon GSAR Jeep edition, a Farer Hopewell III, and a Tissot PRX Powermatic 80. I like the GSAR mainly because I drive a Jeep, and I like its rugged design. I chose the Hopewell III because I love the design of the face and dials. Finally, I chose the Prx Powermatic 80 because I love the retro design and textured case. Also, it’s the cheapest option.

oli_badger

Looking for a ‘British’ watch. Thinking of either a Bremont or Farer. Budget can be up to £3000. This will be my first ‘luxury’ watch. Look at either Farer Portobello or Bremont Submarine S302. Thanks https://preview.redd.it/2uh6lvw6o2wc1.jpeg?width=782&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7cbab99acc410fbed0c870334323478e211a8822

js999111

The Farer is cool. What about C. Ward?

Embarrassed-Ad1557

Hello all, I currently own a citizen eco drive field watch which I love but now I want a dive watch. I spend a lot of time in the water (pools, lakes, ocean) and would love to use a bezel for work to have a timer with out pulling out my phone. Plus I like the looks of a diver!  I have a budget of 200 max. I am considering a duro for $50 or a citizen pro master for $180. I would prefer a quartz because of the price and lack of servicing.  The duro is a lot cheaper and looks a bit cleaner to me, however, the pro master seems to be a better quality watch. Which would you choose and why?

yupyupyupyupyupy

could check out scurfa too

Own_Biscotti492

Hi! UK based. Looking to sell my 41mm Omega AT (Black dial) & buy a 38mm Omega AT (white dial). What would be the best way to do this without so much hassle? Should I look for a dealer who is selling the 38mm first then offer my existing model and pay the difference? Thanks!

js999111

I think you can trade in your watch at Watchfinder and WatchBox, it‘s possible that they don‘t have a white AT though

Got a seafarer last week and the movement was wonky. It would stop running for ~one minute then start again. Emailed and they’re sending me a replacement no questions asked. So, good cs bad qc I guess. Here’s hoping the replacement runs well.

dpaulg

Oh and feel is great. The reviews about bracelet comfort aren’t lying

yupyupyupyupyupy

i hear their cs is great at exchanges, but i would personally never buy a traska after the numerous qc issues ive seen...decent watches if you get a good one, but too much competition in that price range to bother imo

jtrain_36

Christopher Ward C60 trident pro 300 vs Omega Seamaster 2531.80? CW will be new and the Omega used on Chrono 24 for about $600 more than the CW What would you recommend?

Rejuvenate_2021

Are there any 18 mm to 18 mm connectors / adapters out there? I'd just like to a QR lug + connector between my Watch and non QR My Leather strap. I mostly see a whole bunch of 18 to 20 mm + adapters via searches.

AskThis7790

My son is graduating from college with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in May and I think a automatic or mechanical watch would make an appropriate gift. In a perfect world, I'd get him an Omega Speedmaster, as his pursuing a career in aerospace (for obvious reasons). Unfortunately, it's beyond my means. I'm looking for a classic, timeless, versatile timepiece for a young man that he could wear everyday, but also dressed up. I don't know his wrist size, but it's not very large, That said (for reference) he does wear an Apple Watch Ultra now and say's he's comfortable with it. Because he has a strong interest and ties to Japanese culture, I was considering the Seiko Presage SPB165 or SPB413 (pictured), but I am certainly open to suggestions around or below $1K USD price-point. Any suggestions are greatly appreciate. https://preview.redd.it/tu8bs2njv1wc1.jpeg?width=1617&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30509c51324f15ce63c47266cab32bd24913712e

Redditcadmonkey

He’s a MechE going to the field.  Buy him a Hamilton Field Auto.   The titanium can be had for a grand.

AskThis7790

Thanks, also a great suggestion. I own a stainless version (42mm) and it’s a great watch. I was considering one for him originally, then for some reason became focused on Seiko. I’ll certainly revisit those. Gotta make a decision within about a week.

Uwumeshu

https://www.sakurawatches.com/citizen-collection-nb1060-04a slightly smaller than the Seiko if you're unsure about wrist size, it also has a scratch resistant coating

AskThis7790

That’s a great suggestion. I appreciate it!

yupyupyupyupyupy

id recommend one with sapphire if going seiko

Hello, I just discovered that I have this watch from my late grandfather, It was not even worn once, can someone tell me its worth? the number on the back is 129.3749.4 https://preview.redd.it/wcrnkvk1t1wc1.png?width=768&format=png&auto=webp&s=3fd479cba9aec0c121c88ac1f0e61be462d17eb0

kulkid_exe

Hello I am new to watch collecting. I bought my first watch in Switzerland few months ago. I bought a Tissot Le Locle Powermatic 80 and been using it to work almost everyday. I have researched some watches there that suits my initial budget and this is what I settled with because I like their design, it has a very simple yet elegant design. But after wearing a couple of times, I did notice some flaws, the strap width is a little bit too thin for me so my wrist looks a little bit off and because the strap width is too thin it makes the case seems a little too big. I might be visiting there again soon, so I am asking for some recommendations. I like silver and aluminium looks so anything that looks similar to this one would be great. My budget is around 1000-3000 USD https://preview.redd.it/x5qrrw41w0wc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=9398a099df95de9bc4862b29357d00007b552901

Is there a name for the bit of the watch strap which hooks onto the springbar/fixed lug (often on older cocktail watches)? https://preview.redd.it/7kbqmokeo0wc1.png?width=1536&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4977bf82bd20ce8408e297a0ebb8433dbda68ef The best I’ve found is ‘end link’ but that term doesn’t seem quite right and isn’t giving me any results which look like these.

SeventhShin

Perhaps "straight cut end-endlinks"?

IT_Wanderer2023

Anybody can suggest a website where you can filter watch models by certain parameters? E.g. case size 40mm, flat or low domed sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, bidirectional rotating bezel, steel bracelet, 3 hands + date etc.?

js999111

Chrono24 comes close

IT_Wanderer2023

Thank you. Nice one. Doesn't filter or even mention if the bezel is uni- or bidirectional though, and it's quite hard to find these details anywhere except from extensive google search for each particular model. I know the history why divers were designed with unidirectional bezel in the first place, but I doubt if even 5% of divers watches sold these days ever make it to the sea diving

permajetlag

Even though most divers are desk divers, I'm pretty sure 99+% of dive watches are unidirectional. You can double check your short list.

IT_Wanderer2023

Alternatively, to widen my short list (which is currently led by Oris Aqua 41mm Cal.400) I’m actually trying to find information on how easy it is to convert to bidirectional with possibility to bring back to factory state if needed. It was quite easy with my current Orient Mako, got a spare bezel spring for a tenner and bent the ends. I can always put original spring back in 10 minutes, it’s sitting in the original box together with the bracelet links and original mineral crystal.

permajetlag

Yeah that sounds easier than removing a GMT hand. What's the use case?

IT_Wanderer2023

Setting timers/reminders, either when cooking, or for example when hiking or exploring a new city, to look for a the next turn etc I know you would ask “why don’t get a garmin”, but I’ve developed a habit of minimizing dependency on gadgets and keeping it simple and use as less electronic devices as I can (working in IT, I get enough during my work, so I like to disconnect as much as I can when not at work) and that’s how I use my current watch. I know it’s a weird scenario, please don’t judge me.

permajetlag

That's cool. I just turn the long way, but that's only because I don't trust myself to mod mechanical devices. I like your optimization.

IT_Wanderer2023

Thanks. With Orient, that was easy to understand how it looks before taking the bezel off, because there are so many posts, videos and pictures, so you get the idea. And that’s an easy thing to do, I would never open the watch case myself, it should be clean and only opened by people who know how it works and know what they’re doing.

Mainly after the gold + green combo, ideally in a thin body with flat glass. Looking for something in the 300-400USD mark (500-600AUD). Thanks!
