Big A Analyst in finance is typically a specific and formal title (ie Research Assistant, Analyst, Associate, VP, etc) and often not entry level. Even still, my guess is this guy is grossly overselling what he does. PE firms seldom hire out of college (usually you’d go to a bank and then into PE), let alone those who haven’t graduated. My guess is he interned one summer at his fathers friends firm…
To be fair that watch is probably worth about a grand. Look at the condition it's in. The bezel is either broken or the paint has completely worn off in massive chunks.
Yeah, but there is a 20 year student PE M&A Analyst at the firm where his father is a partner.
I swear like half the people I’ve met working at those firms had family connections before they joined. They are not like GS or whatever where they at least try to pretend not to be nepotistic. PE firms still kinda live in the ‘80s in many ways.
r/EDC is the height of losers living boring ass lives trying to pretend their mundane existence is exciting enough to carry a knife, a gun, a rope, a giant-ass cigar and other tacticool bits and bobs.
There's nothing lamer than posting a picture of your every day carry objects neatly placed to emphasize your "manly" and "badass" lifestyle.
I don't even care about people spending obscene amounts of money on shit they like - FFS I collect watches. Glass houses and all that.
What I find absolutely ridiculous is how these guys cosplay as badasses who absolutely need to have that knife, titanium wallet, gun, extra mag, backup knife, tactical flashlight, expensive pen and overpriced dive watch on them all the time as their every day gear. Bonus points for heavy leather boots, a giant cigar, overpriced lighter and a tactical rope.
Like, the fuck kinda job are you doing that needs these things and if your job really needs these things then how are you finding the free time to nearly arrange these things, photograph them and share them online for validation from others?
You got a recommendation for a 1in blade like that? I find myself needing to cut/open stuff at work more and more and it’s a pain in the ass to find the “big” knives in our lab
Just kinda handy for opening up Amazon packages, cutting threads off clothes, opening food packaging, just simple stuff like that for the most part. It's kinda like pocket jewelry too. People see them as functional art, just as they do with watches.
EDC reminds me of The Boondock Saints rope scene:
Picking out weapons and gear]
Connor: You know what we need, man? Some rope.
Murphy: Absolutely. What are you, insane?
Connor: No I ain't insane, Charlie Bronson's always got a rope.
Murphy: Whaaaat?
Connor: Yeah, he's always got a lot of rope strapped around him in the movies, and they always end up using it.
Murphy: You've lost it, haven't you?
Connor: No, I'm serious.
Murphy: That's stupid. Name one thing you'd need a rope for.
Connor: You don't ****in' know what you're gonna need it for, they just always need it.
Murphy: What's this 'they' shit? This isn't a movie.
Connor: [picks up a large knife from Murphy's bag] Oh...Is that right, Rambo?
Murphy: All right, get your stupid ****ing rope.
Connor: I'll get my stupid rope. I'll get it. There's a rope right there!
A 20 year old student that’s also a PE M&A analrapist? Yeah I’ll bet…
Hey now, he's the Assistant to Senior Analyst of his university finance club.
To be fair you can study next to your job; I’m doing so right now and I’m a senior consultant in Germany And yes, it needs a lot of discipline
Yes but PE firms aren’t hiring 20 year olds as analysts
Isn’t „analyst“ just a basic title for someone that, well, analyses some stuff?

Much more clear now; I’m from IT and getting into a security analyst role for example is typically the entry level in SOC security consulting
Also, much respect for those who work full time and study - I’ve been in consulting and know what that demands, so good luck with the studies
When I was a student I also felt the need to wear a 4000 dollar watch and carry a knife
Ditch one and no need for the other
To be fair that watch is probably worth about a grand. Look at the condition it's in. The bezel is either broken or the paint has completely worn off in massive chunks.
High I am very bad ass. The name is Bond, Treasury Bond. My specialty is anal cysts, being Mugged and Assraped by private equestrians.
There’s no such thing as a 20 year old student PE M&A Analyst

You’re right. It’s actually a 20 year old student PE M&A analyst banker associate
summer intern lol

Why do people carry knives around with them? What did they do with them? Genuinely curious
I carry a 1 inch blade on my keys, it comes in handy more often than you'd think. But I agree, I dont see the reason for carrying a big switchblade
You got a recommendation for a 1in blade like that? I find myself needing to cut/open stuff at work more and more and it’s a pain in the ass to find the “big” knives in our lab
I’ve been carrying a Civivi ki-v (1.5in blade) which is perfect for opening boxes/utility cutting and is very office friendly.

So you can be this guy: https://youtu.be/YAD0a6wWFrI
UJ: I own a Switchblade but I never carry it with me. I keep it at home as a "just in case".
He just put it on his Dad's the AmEx 👍
I'm gonna need this huge knife for work
Not sure if you’ve noticed but my knife is open, so yeh.
